Subject: Who were Mary & Bob
I really thought this was a good open way to discuss sexuality, considering the time frame, but would like to know who played all the roles, especially Mary & Bob. I went to Imdb.com and all they listed was the narrator, which I already knew was Lorne Greene.

Subject: Beyond the Picket Fence
It's really nice to know that there were actually some forward-thinking people back in the 1950s, and that sex education went beyond worries of having a "bad reputation."

Kinda sweet, kinda dated, but yeah, kinda nice way to spend 20 minutes.

The company that made this was in Canada, which doesn't surprise me. As far as social mores, the Canadians are usually ahead of us here in the United States.

Subject: A good social learning film for its time.
A good solid film for the 1953 generation. Script, direction, and filming were all excellent.

Subject: So.....
What happened to the baby that Mary's mom is having at the beginning of the film? You never see him or her and later when we see Mom setting the table (when Lucille is leaving) she's setting the table for only three...
Other than that, it's a funny but ironic film.
It's naive and innocent and yet current religious right would have big problems with this.

Subject: 'Son, here's an orgy'
Surprisingly good, except for a for questionable spots, about a girls and boys attitudes of, well, boys and girls and what it means to have a relationship. Here we follow Bob and Mary. We watch them grow up. Mary has a nice Mom and Dad and Bob has a widowed Mom. We follow each other's upbringing and how important Mom and Dad were for advice in bringing their kids up properly. I found this film wonderful, and I cheered (well, quietly lol) when the two finally got together.
Best bits:
Bob's Mom 'Arranges situations' if no questions about sex came up.
The whole 'unnatural' relationship Mary and her best pal Lucy. Tsk!
Highly reccomended!

Subject: Social-Sex Attitudes in Adolescence
Newlyweds Bob and Mary are headed for a happy marriage and sex life because their parents were so gosh-darn healthy with them when they were little, teaching them about sex and all. This 50s film is actually a great snapshot of adult attitudes toward teen sexuality midcentury. Mary's growing up years are focused on more than Bob's, but of course parents were generally more anxious about their daughters' budding sexuality than their sons. A real 50s time capsule.
