fourth generation san franciscan. i have spent time working with the ymca teaching kids how to ride bikes and walk safely and taking them on bike adventurous in san francisco. i did that for about a year in san mateo as well. i also have a minor in urban planning from sf state. i think that helps inform my policy decisions and would be really relevant to the material behind the bicycle advisory committee. in the free time a lot of my fellow appoint ees will show you that i show up to a lot of regular meetings and issues period tinent to people's quality of life particularly bike
3:06 am
riding around the city. >>supervisor norman yee: okay. any questions? thank you very much. next up is edward nicholson. >> hello. ed nicholson. i have been here since 1994 and have been cycling also and have a family here. i regularly comment on issues in district 4 regarding cycling, not a very active commitment to this district but this was my third term starting now. i would like to continue to serve. >> so one of the things i noticed your attendance record is you had
3:07 am
quite a few absences. the question would be is that a pattern that we are going to continue seeing? >> i have those absences were due to travel. i am a scene oh enior director development of a large japanese company. i was making overseas travel to germany and japan. that was lined up at the same time. in the past year i have cut back on travel. so i was doing 100,000 miles of flying. >> really, you bike that far? >> flying. >> okay. thank you. i'm sorry. supervisor tang? >> yes, just to a test to mr. nicholson's involvement he's been very

3:09 am
transportation. that is a key piece that i bring to bear to the bicycle committee and striving in communication that we've been having now and working on creating resolutions around supporting vision zero and i'm sphere heading the push to daylight to all the intersections. you probably know it's happening. i want to see it everywhere in the city to really take our safety seriously. i teach this kind of stuff and university of san francisco and i really enjoy being on the committee and feel like it's taken that amount of time to kind of understand how it all works and how we can maximize our effectiveness. i'm really looking forward to a reappointment and look forward to continuing to be more effective. >>supervisor norman yee: thank you. richard nay?
3:10 am
>> good afternoon, supervisors. my name is richard may. i represent district 6. i have been on the committee for about four 4 years. i have missed handful of meetings and that was only due to conflict with some night classes that i was taking. i take my job very seriously. my sole transportation is my bicycle. i'm on it everyday for at least a few hours going all over the city. during the day i'm ahousing advocates and worked with tennants together and coalition on homelessness and do volunteer work with the law
3:11 am
services. this is one of the most important things that i do. i feel sometimes that my district 6 gets a bit of a short shift on the benefits. i have brought that up a few times to city agencies that come and speak to the committee. i'm also the only person of color on the committee. there were some others, but for whatever reason they had to drop off. i would very much like to continue to help the city and bicyclist in particular. >> thank you for all the work you are doing and care for the bike koilgs. -- coalition. and being the only person of color, there is a lot of weight on your shoulders. thank you.
3:12 am
i think the last person is bert hill and he let me know he couldn't be here today. i would like to continue this appointment no. 7. okay. are there any public comments? c'mon up. make sure you talk about the agenda item, okay? >> the jurisdiction i stop myself rules jurisdiction on the san francisco central land of plaza. that means a conscious off feinstein, boxer, clinton, katie tang,
3:13 am
for good citizenship to of the way of the son and appearance. further beyond that will be good trust. can is there any additional public comment? seeing none, public comment is closed. >> do we have a motion to appoint the seats. >>supervisor david campos: so move kevin dole for seat 1, seat 2, more
3:14 am
began gibbons for seat 4 and seat 5 and seat 6. >>supervisor norman yee: supervisor tang? >> yes. i would like to thank you for your continued service. we look forward to working with all of you giving the additional funds we'll get for our improvement. >>supervisor norman yee: motion carries. >> thank you very much. madam clerk please call item no. 2. city clerk: [appointments, mental health board] hearing to consider appointing two members, terms ending january 31, 2016, to the mental health board. clerk of the boardd vacant seat 13, vacant seat 13, succeeding melody daniels, removed, must be a family member of a consumer a person who has received mental health services in san francisco from any program operated or funded by the city and county, from a state hospital, or from any public or private nonprofit mental health agencyy, for the unexpired portion of a three-year term ending january 31, 2016. vacant seat 15, succeeding lena miller, resigned, must be from one of the following professions: psychiatry, psychology, mental health social work, nursing
3:15 am
with a specialty in mental health, marriage and family counselling, psychiatric technology, or administrator of a hospital providing mental health services or of a community mental health facility, for the unexpired portion of a three-year term ending january 31, 2016. city clerk: sf >>supervisor norman yee: okay. that would be eugene porfido. >> i was disappointed i wasn't selected. i'm actually really grateful because over the past year that i have attended the mental health board meetings, a couple reasons, i'm glad you didn't select me because i learned a lot over the past year. the person you did select, has been the ride person for the position. i'm really grateful for that. i have an application in for supervisor yu. in that case i would like to withdraw my application for this seat because while i do have
3:16 am
qualifications for a family member, i think i would be better served as a consumer member on the board and hoping maybe someone more appropriate would get chosen for this seat. with your permission. >>supervisor norman yee: okay. i think we will grant your wishes. i appreciate your comments. >> as far as the seat too, i'm always available if you want to speak to me for questions. i will be back in january if i don't get appointed for seat 12 when it opens up. >> so the seat you are referring to in terms of the appointment is not on agenda for today. >> for the family seat? >> for consumer seat. >> i'm definitely, yeah. i have polite -- applied for that. >> yes, it's not heard today.
3:17 am
>> yeah, i know. i will withdraw this one and pursue that consumer seat. thank you very much for your time. >> next up is debra hardy. >> good afternoon, supervisors. i put most of what i wanted to say in my application. i had a brother who i watched for 25 years. so i have really twofold interest to be on the board. i do have a concern about the most severely mentally ill, but i have perhaps a nearly equal concern about the larger community and access to
3:18 am
mental health services for everybody in the community. i want to make this point, i'm interested to listening to all the groups in the community. i have listed some of the groups in my application whether it's youth, lesbian, gay, transgender, whoever whether it's our veterans. i guess what i'm saying not very well, i want everybody to be a participant in this for all voices to be heard. i think the last thing i want to say is i ask a lot of questions and maybe one reason i would be on the board is to be able to have time to put my questions and have time to hear the answers.
3:19 am
so, again, it's specific to wrap up and it's specific and also wide ranging specific in terms of the mentally ill and wide ranging in terms of the whole community. whoever needs and desires mental health care should have access to it. thank you. >> thank you. any questions? seeing none, thank you very much. next speaker, benny wong. >> hi, good afternoon, supervisors. i'm applying for the position seat of mental health board of san francisco. before i tell you briefly about my personal life and why i'm qualified for the position of mental health of san francisco i would like to introduce two of my clients they are here supporting me.
3:20 am
mr. chan and -- i'm a clinical social worker and mental health counselor providing mental health services. they have a mental disorder from 2001-2008. i became a director at stepping stone from 2008 to now. so i have about 13 years experience regarding the mental health system in san francisco. i also advocate many with mental disorders in the community. for example i pick up asian caucus from 2003 and i was a chairman at that time. the purpose of the asian -- is to advocate for the mental disorders in san francisco. i have done a lot of work to educate the community especially the
3:21 am
chinese community about mental health issues. for example -- regarding the person suicide, dementia, and to further better inform the community about mental health issues i have done a lot of research from 2001-2014. let's say suicide, mental health prevention, life satisfaction, because of my strong advocacy with clients with mental disorder i was very lucky in 2011 i was selected as a recipient in the first annual pacific heritage of 2007. and in 2010 again i was elected as a recipient in the california
3:22 am
association of health services. in my professional life you can see that i am a competent proficient absolutely qualified for the mental health seat board of san francisco. i want a true story to end my presentation today. i remember about 10 years ago, i have a 17-year-old latino client with schizophrenia and dementia. he was coming from jail. i saw him due to his age and mental health challenges. he had nothing at that time. i helped him to get his medicare cost and support services and
3:23 am
social security and then he got housing. i hooked him up with a n a psychiatrist and stabilized his symptoms and he was in a stepping stone presentation they held. i remember that when i saw him every time. he'll wave his hand. high, -- hi, mr. wong. the last story about a patient with alcohol and schizophrenia. i saw him in the hospital because he was diagnosed with lung cancer. i told him if you go to heaven will you remember me? my client said, mr. wong i will always remember you. next day i received a call from the hospital. he passed away. so as of today i still remember what he said to me the last day he saw me. thank you.
3:24 am
>> thank you, any questions? seeing none, thank you. next person u lash did unlap. >> hello. there are many reasons i want to join the board. my professional advocacy will serve on the board in our community. i'm a licensed family therapist and school counselor. my journey in terms of my personal experience. my parents were born in africa. we are immigrants that moved from africa to london in the civil war. we are a very working class family that didn't have access to message health services. so my life goal has always been to represent the under represented communities. i have been here for 11 years
3:25 am
as a resident. i have provided here for 8 years mental health services and my passion is working with adolescence because early prevention and promotion is key to helping our youth become adults and become having the coping skills. i worked at galileo hospital with the latino community i work really closely with specifically undocumented students and families. that is my passion and asian american community here in san francisco because i feel they are not represented. they are stereotyped. the community i was working with in san francisco in the community they have access to no resources. that is the experience i bring and also a teach now. i left in august to teach. i teach at the right institute in
3:26 am
berkeley and san francisco state university as adjunct. my goal to switch jobs is i want to work with the students so that i cannot only everyday in my class multi- culturalism and social justice and advocacy is the key that's what i bring today because they are going to be our future counselors. i'm going to keep it short and sweet. i know my time is almost up. i advocate and i'm also very passionate as you can tell, but i have also worked with the national association and i have advocated to reduce stigma. stigma is huge and shame. and i have worked with a lot of organizations to provide information. i was also one of the board members to work with south asian americans and to reduce stigma and work that
3:27 am
south american asians have real issues. i want to support our undocumented students and families. i have done a lot of research in working with the latino communities and i want to bring that to the board, i also noticed on the board there is diverse but not someone who brings this array. i do want to advocate for our homeless youth in the san francisco unified school district and how do we help them. thank you for listening to me. >> thank you. i guess no questions. any public comments on this item? >> how issue, maslow.
3:28 am
this person created the problem that tragedy force of social everything since the established of psychology sigmund freud, i was in the library reading this and it's intuition just to compute for good reason to create further, unable of intuition because it's not the intuition can be superior it's one of true self in holy practice that can be superior also upon the way of pushing people of the way

of difficulty. a life of difficulties, pain, defeated only to work hard upon practice. solely for the practice because before their time we may not know. there is a couple of things. if i don't see how do i know. >> hi. >> is there a translator in the room? [ foreign language ]
3:30 am
>> i'm a member from a senior center.
