two troopers at the barracks, fatally shooting brian dixon, and wounding trooper alex douglas. investigators believe frein has been collecting food to survive by breaking into cabins in abandoned houses. right now there are awaiting lab results after two reports this week of blood on residents' back porches. authorities estimate the search for frein is easily cost several million dollars, and has absorbed countless man hours. pennsylvania students supplied the letters that officials used for a backdrop during saturday's update. >> i know that this has been trying on everybody. but i want to assure them the law enforcement is doing everything they can to bring thereto a close as quickly as we possibly can. >> state police aren't making a recommendation right now, whether or not they think pocono mountain east high school should close, but they are going to have a heavy press fence that area to protect students and staff. reporting live, cleve bryan, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". well we've also got breaking news right now, police say they have found human remains that could be

those every missing university of virginia student hannah graham. the remains were found in a abandoned property near the campus, thousands of volunteers have been scouring the area, for the 18 year old since she dis a periods in charlottesville, virginia. prosecutors charge jest ooh matthew with abducting gram 11 days after she vanished. she was last seen matthew. of course we'll stay on top of the breaking developments on this case in virginia and pass it along as we get more information. health off initials ohio, they're now monitoring more than 100 people for ebola symptoms. president obama used his weekly address to reassure americans that they are safe. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette has more. >> reporter: president obama urging americans to remain calm about ebola. >> serious disease, but we can't give in to hysteria or fear because that only makes it harder to get people the accurate information they need. >> reporter: the president's

remarks come one day after he appointed former white house advisor ron clean as the first ever ebola czar. he also said he won't give in to calls from some law makers to ban travel from the most hard hit area in west africa. >> trying to seal off an entire region of the world, if that were even possible, could actually make the situation worse. >> reporter: saturday memorial service was held for duncan, first case of ebola diagnosed in the u.s. after traveling from dallas cents to liberia in september. two nurse who is cared for duncan now have the virus. twenty-six year old nina pham undergoing treatment at the national institutes of health in maryland, and 29 year old amber vincent is at emory university hospital in atlanta. in ohio, where vincent traveled before she was diagnosed, more than 100 people are being monitored for ebola symptoms. a cruise ship caring a hospital warning here had contact with duncan's lab specimens is making its way back to galveston, texas, the

worker who has shown no symptoms, is quarantined in her cabin. wendy gillette, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". hurricane gonzalo meantime leaves his mark on the islands of bermuda, damage from the storm is extensive at this point. fallen trees tore down power lines, shutdown roads, fortunately, there have been no deaths or serious injuries reported. gonzalo approached bermuda as category three storm, then weak ends to category two, before finally coming ashore. >> and now to the pacific ocean and hurricane anna causing some nasty weather in hawaii. waves are expected to crest to ten to 15 feet on both the north and south shores of hawaii's islands. rain is falling in some areas at rate of two-3 inches an hour. >> very active weekend for tropical weather. meteorologist, justin drabick, on cbs-3 skydeck with those storms plus big changes headed our way. i think i can feel them already, justin. >> that winds is kicking up, there go the temperatures, it will be feeling like fall. yes, still tracking the drop

things time of year. good news for gonzalo, rapidly moving off to the north and east, away from any lands masses cents and continuing to weakening. check it out on the satelite. it is actually still healthy looking, a category one storm winds at 90 miles per hour, but it is moving at about 36 miles per hour to the northeast, will pass off the coast of new finland, throughout the overnight hours, eventually just weaken out over the northern atlantic. out toward hat we and islands again, this is anna wind at 80 miles per hour, moving to the northwest, good news here, storm does not make landfall to any of the islands of hawaii. how much, they are still feeling the effects, clouds, showers, certainly you saw the higher surf there. to our weather, again, big changes on the way as far as the temperatures are going, anywhere from about five to 10 degrees colder right now, compared to this time yesterday. we had cold front move through, temperatures not bad now, at 62 in the city, 57 allentown, 56 reading. but these numbers will continue to drop overnight. still hanging ton low 60s northeast philadelphia, and mt. holly, new jersey.

some clouds rolling on through, we keep it dry on storm scan3, little upper level disturbance passes by, could be sprinkle in the poconos, but elsewhere, dry conditions through the overnight. tomorrow, a lot of sunshine, but big change in the temperatures. much cooler, breezy, mid 50's, at best for philadelphia, 57 at the shore, and only the 40's in the poconos. so, some true fall weather is back in the forecast, coming up we'll time out the fall chill, how long it lasts and talk about more showers in the seven day, all coming up in a few minutes. natasha, oh, first we have to mention cbs philly weather app now available for android. check it out in the google play store and track all of these conditions. natasha, we send it back over to you. >> justin, thank you so much. young woman's murdered ten months ago to this day it remains unsolved. she was the kind of person we could not afford to lose? >> it has been ten months since the murder of amber long, just walking with her mom, purse snatched and shot, on a side street in northern liberties. ten months despite city-wide manhunts, reward, surveillance of the crime, shooter still out there. >> it was absolutely senseless. it was a tragedy. (cheers). >> reporter: saturday a run inspired by amber's death created by people fed one violent crime against women, aiming to increase the reward for an arrest. >> what is to say that this guy isn't out there still doing it? and it is so, so important that he be caught. >> amber was shot here, the 900 block of front street, at point blank range, just feet away from her mother. her mother would end upholding amber, until she died. organizers say they wanted to start the race here, stephanie says that was just too much.

instead, men and women from all backgrounds gathered for 5k on another city side street in honor after mother who will never stop fighting, a daughter who will never stop inspiring. >> amber would never under stands if i just collapsed and in grief. that was not her, you know. if it had been me on the pavement that night, she would be out here doing this. >> reporter: in northern liberties, steve patterson, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the search is on for the gunman who opened fire outside after hunting park bar. twenty-two year old man was killed, this shooting happened at eighth and hunting park, just before 11:00 friday night. detectives are still reviewing surveillance video from neighboring businesses, no word yet on what led to this shooting. also, a philadelphia special education teach is her continuing the search this weekend for her beloved dog that was stolen along with her car. jj peers and her friends gathered at hawthorn park, in south philadelphia to begin their search for louie.

peers made quick stop at the home depo columbus boulevard, and left her lab in the car. when she came out, the car and the two year old dog, were gone. >> the turn out sin credible, i can't believe this many people came out. i have not losses fate in philadelphia. >> police recovered her car, but unfortunately, louie was no where to be found. peers is offering a $3,000 reward for any information that ultimately brings louie home. big grand opening for philadelphia's newest refurbished playgrounds. children enjoyed the new play equipment at pleasant playgrounds in east mt. airy. "eyewitness news" at chew avenue and slocum street. recreation center was also renovated. officials say the project cost $3 million. families celebrated autumn at the fall festival in camden, new jersey today. "eyewitness news" at roosevelt plaza park near city hall a lot of activities for kids including face painting, arts, crafts, anibal on art.

>> got a story you would like us to investigate? e-mail your ideas to i-team at cbs3.com. >> back now on "eyewitness news." this isn't the wakeup call hotel guests had in mind. a car crashed into a first floor room at the country inn and sweets in wisconsin. two people were inside at the time but they weren't hurt. the driver also escaped serious injury. other hotel guests had to be evacuated and moved to other rooms. police believe the driver fell asleep at the wheel. at least eight people died after u.s. led airstrikes continue in the fight against isis. the very latest strikes targeted a gas distribution station near the syrian border town of kobani.

the u.s. military carried out 15 total airstrikes in syria. meantime family and friends gathered at a new hampshire church to remember the life of james foley. a video showed his killing at the hands of isis militants in august. today would have been foley's 41st birthday. and new developments in the case of michael brown, the ferguson, missouri teen shot and cold by a police officer. the new york times report tests showed brown's blood was found on the gun, uniform and inside the police car. the officer reportedly told investigators that he was trying to get out of his car when brown shoved him back inside hit him and tried to get his gun. brown's family calls the officer's account self serving. the teenager's killing sparked weeks and weeks of protests and racial 81 rest -- unrest in ferguson. catholic bishop scrap their welcome to gays and catholics who are divorced and married.

this shows deep divisions at the ends of a two week meeting sought by pope francis to chart a more merciful approach to ministering to catholic families. it will serve as the basis for future debate leading up to another meeting of bishops next october. a close call for mars this weekend. a rare comet will brush by the red planet and nasa is watching its track very closely. the comet is called sighting spring and it will pass mars tomorrow. nasa is watching sighting spring so closely because its nucleus of ice and rocks contain remnants of big bang. >> you're on the surface of mars at the time when this comet comes by the entire night sky would be skilled with the gas as the it flies by. >> nasa has at least six orbiting satellites and rovers ready to gather information on sighting springs. the comet will pass closest to

mars tomorrow afternoon. and here on earth this is not an event for the faint of heart. hundreds of base jumpers took part in the 35th annual west virginia bridge day festival. the jumpers plunged off the 876-foot tall new river gorge bridge. one of the longest steel single span arch bridges in the world. today is the only day of the year that base jumpers are legally allowed to jump off that bridge. >> good evening everyone. i don't think tomorrow will be a good day for base jumping around here as winds will be picking up and they will be ushering in colder temperatures. a little bit more typical for the end of fall. starting to see that difference right now. we're coming off a mild day today. high temperatures into the low 70's. 72 the official number in philadelphia, 73 atlantic city, and in wilmington, delaware, upper 60's in the lehigh valley and berks county. here the winds out of the west-northwest sustained at about 15 miles per hour in philadelphia, gusting to near

20. so that will start to usher in a cooler air mass behind a cold front that moved through. here's where we are right now. at the airport still hanging onto 62. we're in the low 60's in south jersey. cool air not quite here just yet but it's just off to the north and west checking out pittsburgh this hour, 47 degrees. 50 in state college, mid 40's in buffalo. so, that's what's going to be headed our way through the overnight hours. little disturbance in the upper atmosphere. you can see a lot of cloud cover across central pennsylvania, even a few showers popping up over the mountains but most likely we stay dry overnight, just partly to mostly cloudy skies. eventually those skies will clear up nicely for the second half of the weekend. so, the front came through today and that's going to start to usher in a very chilly air mass. the coldest air mass we've probably seen so far this fall season. also the jet stream has taken a dive southward. that little trough over us will allow that cold air from canada to spill in. we see some relief heading into monday and tuesday. temperatures will be a little bit milder but then the trough

redevelops and on wednesday bringing another shot of some cooler air for the second half of the week and also the chance for some showers. and with the cold temperatures on the way, a lot of change in the fall color. we're seeing actually past peek in many locations, up in new england, you head to the poconos pretty much peeking right now so check it out tomorrow if you want to look at some good color, already seeing some high color changing in the lehigh valley area and moderate color around philadelphia, the suburbs into south jersey and delaware. so, some clouds around overnight. maybe by the time you wake up tomorrow morning still some cloud cover, especially south and east of the city but a lot of sunshine returns for the afternoon. and it will be windy and much colder. as we head towards monday, clouds will be on the increase through the day but we'll stay dry and then tuesday we start to see a return of some showers. temperatures will be milder as we surge back into the 60's. so, overnight we drop into the 40's. tomorrow's highs struggle to get to mid-50's for philadelphia and suburbs. poconos stay in the 40's. it will be a cold night sunday

night and then we rebound to about 60 degrees for the afternoon high on monday. association this is below average for this time of year. breezy and chill overnight, low of 48 for the city, cooler in the northwest suburbs. cool sunday, mostly sunny skies. very breezy with a high up around 56 degrees. northwest winds up around 15 to 20 miles per hour gust to go about 30. here we go with the extended forecast. mid-50's on sunday. won't feel like november but skies mostly sunny. we're back up to 60 monday. some showers arrive on tuesday. it looks like those shower chances continue in the forecast through the day wednesday off and on and also linger into thursday with a very slow moving storm system moving through the midatlantic. temperatures stay on the cool side for this time of year in the low 60. by the end of the week sunshine returns for friday and saturday, starting to warm back up closer to average with high temperatures in the mid to upper 60's. now, do you want to join the eyewitness weather team? well, you can send us your reports from home and some pictures by joining the eyewitness weather watcher
