dramatic it was for him. an image he will not be able to shake. the mother of child was able to rush here to the scene. she saw her child here as well, as you can imagine, she was inconsolable. we spoke to police who are telling thus does appear to be just a tragic accident, no drugs or accident. and he is still cooperating with police at this hour. we are live in nicetown, natasha brown, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> there are breaking developments tonight surrounding death of cooper health care ceo john sheridan and his wife. investigators say fire at their home was intentionally set. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones is live in montgomery township somerset county with new details, todd. >> reporter: jessica, the update from the prosecutor's office today certainly create is a lot of questions, in fact, as i said, this fire was intentionally set, who set it, and why. there was a fire here early sunday morning on

september 28th, and the fire here was at the home of the ceo of coupe are university health system, the fire was contained to the upstairs master bedroom to the home in montgomery township, and that is, where seven two-year old ceo john sheridan and his wife joyce were found. mr. sheridan was pronounced dead at the scene. the his 69 year-old wife was pronounced dead at the hospital. late this afternoon as we mentioned, we have learn that the somerset county prosecutors arson task force ruled that the fire was intentionally set, however, no further new updated information was provided. so we are still waiting to hear the results of the autopsies, as well as other laboratory testing to learn exactly how the couple may have died. late tonight, the cooper university health released a statement saying quote we are saddened and shocked by what has been reported about the death of john sheridan and his wife, joyce. their deaths already unbelievably sad are now tragic. our deepest condolences go out

to john and joyce's family for their terrible loss. reporting live tonight from somerset county, new jersey, todd quinones for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> todd, more to come on that, thank you very much. an arrest has been made in a hit and run that injured this seven year-old girl in west philadelphia. allure maclean suffered a broken foot and ankle plus bruises, when she was hit by a car and dragged sunday night. police say the the 25 year-old jameer banks turned himself in after an eyewitness tracked the car and got its license plate number. he is facing numerous charges tonight. well new at 6:00 o'clock we have new details about the death of the pennsylvania state trooper who was killed in an accidental shooting at a gun range in montgomery county. "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter is live with more on the accident that claimed the life of trooper david kedra, walt? >> reporter: well, chris, the the troopers who serve with kedra talk about his hopes, dreams, promising trooper on his way to a career in law

enforcement and beyond barracks with his fiance he had just purchased a new home. but all of that, the trooper's life evening so suddenly and sadly yesterday afternoon, an accidental shooting at a firing range and new there are new details revealing apparently what happened. with flags at half staff, black crepe across their badges, troop hours served with david kedra at the the skippack barracks praised the fallen officer. >> the message we want to get out he was an excellent trooper and great individual. >> kid loved his job and with that kind of attitude you are determined and bound to be a great state trooper. >> reporter: these same troopers, hours before, solemnly escorted hearst carrying kedra died at temple who have after police say he was shot by a fellow trooper during a weapons training session, at montgomery county public safety firing range. sources say that officer was demonstrating a new weapon when it accidentally,

discharge. >> the prayers go out to all of the troop's cross pennsylvania. they have had a very stressful month, or so. >> he was made to serve. he understood the bigger, that there was a bigger goal in life. >> reporter: meanwhile teachers at roman catholic high school where, kedra was a top student before graduating as a criminal justice major recalled that he had always wanted to become an officer and real heart break you will add never getting to see, just how many people they know who they would have help. >> he would have been a great patrol officer and could have saved, lives, if he was still a career patrol officer. >> reporter: now, on this blog at temple university, as a student there he said his hope was to be a state or federal law enforcement officer. at 26, david kedra recognized that hope, his life now cut so tragically short.

live from the skippack barracks i'm walt hunter, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> walt, thank you. a canadian firm will take over revel casino in atlantic city. toronto based brookfield u.s. holdings submitted winning bid of 110 million-dollar, in a bankruptcy court auction. it says that it will operate boardwalk property as a casino. the the company also owns the hard rock casino in las vegas and atlantic paradise island in the bohamas. >> the that company that comes in has got to have the financial ground to make it work but they also have to know a whole lot about gaming. i think this is a real good mix report. >> brookfield u.s. holdings is formulating a businessman and will release more details in the future. search is on tonight for the cause of a three alarm fire in atlantic city that i damaged almost an entire city block. the fire ignited last night on the 1100 block of atlantic avenue. it was just a block from the boardwalk and it engulfed several apartments and business buildings. seventeen people including

children were home at the time, they did manage to escape the flames. red cross ace cyst containing families displays by that fire. pennsylvania governor tom corbett went head to head with his challenger tom wolf right here at cbs broadcast center to day. breakfast with the candidates aired live on our sister station the cw philly and or on our radio partner kyw news radio 106o the exchanges this morning were often sharp. >> you are accusing me of a criminal act. >> governor corbett shot back hard when his democratic challenger tom wolf accused him of using bogus numbers to balance the budget. >> last years budget, 2013/4 budget suffered from what a 700 million plus dollar revenue short fall. so you obviously, you know, cooked the books to make it look like it was balanced but it wasn't. >> you're accusing me of a criminal act. >> i'm accusing you overestimating what the revenues were going to be in the last years budget, we were

700 million-dollar short. >> reporter: candidates spared over who is to blame for the philadelphia school budget crisis. wolf says corbett cut money to public education, statewide but governor says that misrepresents the numbers. >> services have been cut. i mean i'm in the sure how you can look at whats happened in public education in pennsylvania and say you have been a friend to education and things are better, they're not. >> i wanted to convince the people of pennsylvania, and teachers union of par trying to convince people that i cut education. >> but did you. >> no, i didn't. it was done in the year before the in the two years before it was reduced. it was taken out. replaced with federal money. >> reporter: to raise a billion dollars for schools, wolf wants to tax natural gas drillers 5 percent severance tax. governor is worried about its affects on the industry. >> you need to allow to it get established so they don't say i'm going back to texas where there is a new gas fine, eaglesford that is competing with us here. >> severance tax will in the run businesses off of

theredelaware just like us. fire companies in the state of something went wrong with the new health care law that threatened to shut us all down, and then chris coons got involved. chris did one heck of a job. he got senators in both parties to see that there was a problem. they fixed it, so now volunteer fire companies can stay in service. most guys in washington just want to argue. but our chris coons got results. i'm chris coons and i approve this message. it's not easy to get things done in washington, but i'm working hard to find common ground.

and often younger woman. it can be deadly because treatments have in the been very effective, well, that could be changing. cat the lean madden is hoping a philadelphia experiment can save her life. forty-eight year-old has inflammatory breast cancer. >> if it is, aggressive, and resistant, and i am stage four. only thing i can do is prolong my life. >> reporter: nothing else work, not chemotherapy, surgery or radiation, so kathleen, mother of two teenage hours lives in boston is back in her hometown, hoping to try a new combination therapy, that is being tested at jefferson's sidney kimmel cancer center. >> it vice exciting. >> reporter: doctor christophernellie says current treatments for advanced inflammatory breast cancer mark by swollen red skin are limited. he is experimenting with the drug romandensein used to treat lymphoma in combination with the traditional chemotherapy. >> what it does, it blocks the

cells, proliferation. >> reporter: results show the drug combination appears to break up cancer cells. you can see from image a to f the progression as the clusters, dissipate,. >> and it also seems to be making the tumor less aggressive overtime. >> reporter: liz, is an oncology nurse who is working on the research, preliminary results of been encouraging. >> that is one of the reasons why people are coming in from all over the country. >> reporter: for kathleen she's just looking for at least a little extra time. >> you know, you can hope that will lead to a significant increase in my life and maybe they would come up with a cure, that would be my dream, obviously. >> reporter: this is just beginning, phase within of the trial. researchers are still tweaking the drug dosage. we have more information on this, trial for you at cbs philly.com, click on health and tonight we will kick off lights for the cure, landmarks all over are lighting up in pink to raise awareness for breast cancer during the month of october.

this is scheme cam three from atlantic city where sunnies getting lower in the sky. sunset less than an hour. we are looking at mild conditions, high temperature today, a seasonal 73. the normal high is 72 for this time of the year in october. on storm scan three we are seeing a few clouds moving in. area of low pressure pushing clouds back towards philadelphia and points to the east and temperatures across the board have reflect. that you can almost draw a line just to the east of philadelphia, going down through south jersey where we have had cooler temperatures today because of the clouds. trenton 67. atlantic city 64. wildwood 66. philadelphia warmer at 70 and reading at 71. right now in lancaster 71 as well. to the north and west seeing temperatures in the 60's and our weather will be coming from the north over the next couple of days keeping it on the cool side but not for long. for your thursday we will watch this storm system move away, high pressure to the north will provide thaws northerly wind and it will be seasonal. very pretty day.

friday dry again with temperatures in the 70's, all eyes on this front that will be in the midwest moving east. it stays dry friday but rain moves in friday night, into saturday, temperatures will only be in the 60's saturday and behind this we will see much cooler air. take a look at future weather. dry for tonight no weather issues and clouds will give way to clearing. for your thursday mostly sunny skies a few clouds through trenton and points to the north and east but as our low moves further away and it stays sunny for your friday. friday no weather issues either, late friday night and saturday morning by 3:00 a.m. we will see showers to the west of the radar and then as morning progresses, eight or nine or 10:00 we will see rain, by noon and line of showers and thunderstorms going right through philadelphia on saturday and then during the afternoon it clears out quickly and we will see some sunshine saturday before sunset. behind that front a cool, pool of air, it is cool air invasion and that will be here for the weekend. bit of the chill in time for
