>> goods morning, new this morning, two philadelphia men are a rain overnight on murder and conspiracy charges, stemming from that violent carjacking and crash that killed three children. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry joins us now, at north philadelphia, at the crash scene with more. syma, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, the suspects were arraigned shortly before 2:00 this morning, both had been denied bail. and their preliminary hearing is now set for august the 13th. this, after officials credit the arrest to the detectives who were working day in and day out. >> i want it personally thank commissioner ramsey, captain clark, all of the men and women of the philadelphia police department for their exceptional work in bringing these two (beep) to justice. >> district attorney seth williams uses strong words to describe the men they say are responsible for killing 15 year old kira williams, ten year old joseph read, and seven year year old terrence

moore. >> this shows taking corneilius crawford into custody of north sixth street. second suspect, 19 year old jonathan rose, a turned himself in sunday with his mother and pastor by his side making a full confession to police. >> he is trying to do everything in his power to erase the image of those poor children going offer the hood of the car. >> have been charged with murder, session all assault, numerous other charges. police say they randomly target add realtor when they carjacked her. the suspect are accused of sexually assaulting her in the car when a tire blew sending the stolen suv into the fruit stands where the children were trying to raise money for their church. records show, crawford had been released on parole in april 2013 after serving half of a five to 13 year sentence for robbery. the parole board siting in its decision proper demonstrated motivation for success. for neighbors, little consolation for the arrest. >> that mother still got to wake up, find out where her

babies are going. >> and the children's mother, and the realtor, were injured in the crash. both remain hospitalized this morning. in the meantime, the vigil set today at 6:00 p.m. here at the crash site on germantown and allegheny avenues. live in north philadelphia, syma chowdhry, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". thank you, syma. now, new this morning, man is hospitalized after a stabbing in west philadelphia's overbrook neighborhood. it happened shortly after 12:30, inside home along the 6100 block every block of west columbia avenue. fifty-eight year old man was stabbed multiple times in a possible dom he is he can violence incident. they took another man into custody and are interviewing a female. pair of good samaritans spring into action after car crashes into the delaware river near philadelphia's penn's landing. police say it appears the driver of this black suv was fleeing the scene after accident in old city shortly before 6:00 last night, that's when he hopped on a ramp that connects the chestnut street bridge to columbus boulevard, and plunged right into the

river. eyewitnesses say it was like a scene from a movie. >> something you never see here, probably never see again. >> had to be doing about 100, 110, hit the wall. i just seen him flying through the air, and the back hatch opened up. it went straight into the water. >> the 36 year old driver was unresponsive when rescuers got there. and he later died at the hospital. the police investigation continues. 6:03, here is your traffic and weather together. katy? >> good morning, everybody. generally speaking, we've got pretty nice day underway. it is clear, it is definitely cool outside. and if you maybe slept with the windows open last night, you probably already know that. a very, very light breeze out there, right now, and little thin vale of cloud cover, too, we take things outside to storm scan3, but actually start it off here with just beautiful view here down the shore in ocean sit, gorgeous sunrise is underway, in cape may county, really everywhere else. so find the east facing window near you, take a peak, it will be nice day.

let's go next to storm scan3 as promised, nothing more than cull elf clouds generally off to the north and west, finding most every those right now. that's courtesy of some cooler air aloft. so, that is just what we need for just enough instability, to potentially bring in few clouds to our area as the day progresses, but we'll stay dry. look at the difference in the thermometer. dropped anywhere from five to as much as close to 15 degrees in the matter of last few hours, a lot cooler out, there just the light breeze, all you need, for it to actually feel like it is kind after sweatshirt casino after morning. if you have got plans to maybe take the dog for nice long walk or something like, that wouldn't be the worse idea to have a sweatshirt ready to go or light jacket. 61 degrees currently for you at atlantic city, 64 at the airport, we expect that these temperatures will have chance to rebounds, problem is they don't rebounds all that much. look at the poconos, hit 07 today. just barely hit 08 in the city. but everybody can expect at least some sunshine, just way atypical for late july standards to see temperatures

quite this cool. bob? >> good morning, everybody, 6:04, certainly feels great when you open up the front door and head out to work this morning. let's do just. that will open up the traffic door. say good morning to i-95, a live look, northeast philadelphia, right at cottman avenue. this is first of the number of many traffic construction zones you will have to hit on the way into downtown, but the three lane squeeze here at cottman, starting to pick up some volume as we head into downtown philly this morning. the other construction stretch that you have to look out for, on 95, is between philly international, and route 420 here in delaware county. where they were milling the roadway on the overnight, so there is that uneven pavement, both directions, on i-95, between 420 and philly international. in delaware, old baltimore pike is blocked at route 896 with a crash. if you are headed out this morning, i would use route 40 as the alternate. all of the bridges look fine, ben franklin, walt whitman, commodore barry looking good. mass transit running with no delays. erika, back over to you. >> bob, thank you.

israeli force haves pounded gaza in the heaviest night every attacks in three weeks of fighting. as susan macinnis reports, calls for trues are growing louder. >> israeli air strikes overnight hit hamas tarring nets gaza. including this building, that houses the hamas run television and radio station. as the sun rose, damage in full view on the 22nd day of this non-stop war. flames rose from gaza's only power plant this morning, when it was hit by israeli tank shells. forcing the site to shut down. this home of a top hamas leader was reduced to rubble. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu told his people monday to prepare for prolonged conflict against hamas militants. israeli officials claim hamas fired more than 50 rockets and mortar shells at the jewish state monday. an attack on southern israel killed at least four israeli soldiers bringing total number lost to 53. casualties on the palestinian

side are far greater with more than 1100 dead so far, most of them civilians. the two sides are trading blame for a strike monday on gaza park that killed at least nine children. secretary every state, john kerrey, has been pressing both sides to put down their weapons, but faces criticism for lack of success. the united nations is also calling for an immediate cease-fire. in washington, susan macinnis, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". your time now 6:07. once again investigators trying again to reach the site of the malaysia airlines wreckage in ukraine have a been turned away. intense fighting forced them back. has dropped its plans to send military mission to secure the site saying it would be too dangerous, 298 people died, when the boeing 777 was apparently hit, by a missile earlier this month. also there is morning, the us has another reason to be angry with russian president vladmeere putin. the obama administration is accusing russia of violating a

1987 nuclear missile treaty. the president ronald reagan signed with the soviet leader, and the us says russia tested new ground launch crews missile. russian officials consider the matter closed. here's a look at some of the things happening today. the national transportation safety board releases its report today on the 2012 derailment of that train in paulsboro. that train spilled toxic vinyl chloride into the mantua creek. wilmington city council votes on major cuts to the fire department today. the mayor already vetoed plans to cut funding to the department, and to eliminate firefighter positions. >> and the teenage survivors of the south korea ferry dis as letter testify about the ordeal. that is before a panel investigating the possible negligence of the ferry's crew. the sinking left 300 people dead or missing, most students on a school trip. wild weather across the united states caught on camera, including a rare tornado. right outside of boston,

how strong the tornado was, as it swept in, tearing apart everything in its path. >> and it was really strong, strong winds. i really didn't even have a chance to get nervous. i mean, scared, just happened all the sudden. you just -- just matter of seconds? >> matter of seconds. >> i'm so lucky to be alive. >> was sitting in this chair, when the storm hit, in a boot now smashed into the garage about 40 feet from its original perch at the gas pumps. this surveillance video shows the storm moving in, with sheets of rain, that's when he got out of the boot. >> what would have happened to you if you were inside this? >> i would pass away, i won't lie. >> would you have been killed? >> yes. >> next-door, at brothers auto body, cars and equipment look like they went through a blender. this business was also badly damaged, but by night fall, electric crews were restoring

power and people at the two revere businesses were thankful nobody was hurt. >> material stuff is material stuff. but people are people. you can't replace people. so i'm glad everybody's okay. >> by late monday night, police remained on patrol in several neighborhoods, and everywhere you looked, it seemed like there was debris. it promises to be a long week of clean up ahead. i'm jim smith, cbs news in revere, massachusetts. now, that twister also caused several minor injuries, including a baby who was in a car, they were hurt by flying glass. now, across the country over in colorado, where three tornados spun through the denver area. look how big that is. this one was caught on camera in for the lofton. no reports of any injuries or major damage. one of the twisters touched down near denver's airport. travelers there were ordered to seek shelter in the airport's concourses. three we want to get our forecast for the day, how are we looking? >> thankfully no severe weather expectations for the

philadelphia, light volume so far in this stretch, but just keep in mind we have the uneven pavement on 95 from the construction crews between the airport heading down toward route 420-6789 speaking of uneven pavement, here go, live look at the schuylkill expressway, right at spring garden street. they milled the road surface last night. so right here you're going to hit and feel a bit of speed bump then rocky surface all the way into the tunnels under 30th street station. so if you are coming into philadelphia today, on the schuylkill expressway, be ready for that. that shocker when you hit spring garden, in through the tunnels at 30th street. actually, accident working near delaware, old baltimore pike. police told me until about 7:00 it will be closed at route 896. so up until 7:00 headed out the front door right now i would use route 40 to work your way through delaware. and south jersey, chews landing roadblocked at somerdale road coming in toward philadelphia, 42, 55, so far, light volume, at least for the moment. ukee, back over to you.

both were denied bail. their preliminary hearing is now set for august 13th. nineteen year old jonathan rosa 2 old corneilius crawford now facing murder, sexual assault, numerous other charges. police say they carjacked a realtor and sexually assaulted her, when a tire blew, sending the stolen suv into the corner where the three siblings were selling fruit. fifteen year olds kira williams, ten year old joseph read, seven year old joseph moore struck and killed. their mother, keisha williams, and the realtor injured. both remain hospitalized this morning. officials say rosa turned himself in sunday, with his mom and pastor by his side, making a full confession to police. >> eggs cooperating. he is trying do everything in hits power to erase the aim edge of those poor children going over the hood of that car. >> what they did was in defensible, also unforgivable. so whatever remorse they may or may not have, does not bring back the three young children.

>> reporter: gut wrenching story has made national headlines, touching many hearts including nba legends, charles barkley, who is now offered to pay for the children's funeral services. in the meantime, city council is planning to have a permanent memorial set here at the crash site on germantown and allegheny avenues. live in north philadelphia. syma chowdhry, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". syma, thank you. meanwhile police in upper darby are looking for this man in connection with an assault at wawa. investigators say, he punched a 47 year old man inside the convenience store at 69th street near patterson avenue on sunday. the suspect accused the victim of staring at hits teenage daughter. if you recognize this man, you are asked to call upper darby police. legal defeat for la clippers owner donald sterling. judge refuses to block the 2 billion-dollar sale of that team. the superior court judge sided with his estranged wife, shelly. she negotiated the sale of the team to former ceo microsoft

right near woodhaven road, we got the fellow off to the shoulder, there was in one of the travel lanes, light volume, 95 headed south in toward the city. some debris on the pennsylvania turnpike, westbound, just west of that valley forge interchange. between valley forge and the downingtown interchange. a crash, in south jersey, salem road, between amherst drive and jfk way with police on the scene. and a crash in delaware, been watching this one all morning long, old baltimore pike remains closed at route 896. headed out the front door, i would say route 40 would be your best belt through delaware. otherwise, mass transit running with though delays. ukee, back over to you. thank you, bob. developing right now, israel has hit gaza's only power plant as part of its heaviest bombardment yet. two shells hit fuel tank causing an explosion. sending smoke into the air and forcing the plant to shut down. at the moment there is no word on any casualties. even before the strike, gaza residents had electricity for only about three hours a day.

the israeli military intensified air strikes overnight t got too close to news crew covering the story. >> military has accused hamas of -- (gunshot heard). >> air strikes forced the crew to take cover. reporter duck during live report after a very loud explosion hit the finance ministry in gaza sit. israeli air strike also hit hamas controlled television station, as well. right now 6:36. invest verse taken the recent events across the globe in stride. but that may come to an end this week. >> cbs news business analyst jill schlessinger says when it comes to the economy, the most important week of the summer. she joins us now up in new york with a preview. jill, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. >> so why hasn't there been bigger reaction to the middle east and ukraine? >> reporter: i think when the terrible stories break, investors quickly conduct an analysis, trying to gauge the impact on the global economy. so let's start with gas a there is a big influence on

the local economy. but, very little affects beyond that. of course, if that conflict were to expands, investors would likely reassess their conclusion. in ukraine, the russian stock market and currency have tumble, but unless there is an expansion of sanctions, that would disrupt the flow of oil from russia to europe, that economic damage should be largely contain. >> you said earlier this these events could move invest earls. what's on tap? >> it is a massive week really. we're going to get the first estimate of second quarter growth tomorrow. and remember, after a horrible first quarter, where the economy contracted by 2.9%, jdp expected to accelerate to pace, somewhere between three and three and a half percent h that means first half of the year would be basically flat compared with historic average of 3.3% expansion. also, tomorrow the feds going to conclude its two day policy meeting. it will likely announce another $10 billion to its bonds buying program, and keep

folks with back pain literally every week sometimes every day from shovel snow, or from doing a special work out or moving furniture or not even that, maybe other things. so it is very, very common. >> let me tell you something. that reminded me of something that happened to me about two months ago, doing some crunches the night before. got up the next day, took shower and was driving off ankles, all the sinned oh! now, when do you know when something more serious than just muscle? >> so glad you asked. that will because when we talk about low back pain, very non-specific term. right? not saying what's causing it, just saying that you have it. you have to see your doctor, because there is many potential causes for back pain. some of them can actually be quite serious, quite dangerous, your doctor had help you we have through those. but you have to get proper history and physical. when you talk about sort of low back strain, that non-specific sort of low back strain or sprain is the most common cause of back pain. and that's the type of pain we're talking about in this study in general, too. so talking about the non-specific type. you know, that's when we can, really do think about it. >> so major point, what do we do, can't see him tore two weeks but your back still

hurts. what can you do? >> few things can be helpful. non-specific low back sprain or strain, physical therapy can be helpful. maybe before you have seen your doctor, so maybe don't have a script for therapy, home exercises, do not commit yourself to bed rest. a lot of people think that lying on their back and resting their back is good. no, it can absolutely make things worse. and honestly i say things like motrin, if your doctor prescribes it says it is okay, even tylenol. >> this study, family practitioner there is study not making me throw out tylenol. quite honestly i think we need further research to be done, i say self medication, if it is working for you, if the doctor pre vibes it, okay to continue. >> back stretches in, too? >> get the stretches in. no bed rest. absolutely. >> keep working it. >> doctor jen, thanks so much. >> that was scary. i actually screamed. >> did you call your doctor? >> i did. >> good. that's what we want. >> but i didn't go wining. i tucked if in a little bit. >> that's not wining. see your doctor. >> that's true, that's true. but did i, though, thank you. doctor, appreciate t.
