>> ♪ >> breaking news right now a-body is found in the waters of the pennypack creek. tonight the identity remains a mystery. officers discovered the body in northeast philadelphia this afternoon. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. the body was found in pennypack park near the 3100 block of rhawn street and that's where "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers joins us live with the latest.

>> reporter: the body was discovered not far from where we are right now standing above pennypack creek on welsh road. police were first contacted about this body a little bit after noon on sunday. the body described as being a white male although police are still working on identifying who this victim is. officers responded quickly. the body was recovered and was taken to the medical examiner's office. that is where next steps will be in order to figure out exactly how this man kind how he ended up in pennypack creek in the first place. live in northeast philadelphia tonight, matt rivers, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> matt thank you so much. also police say a paraplegic man shot his brother to death to try to stop him from beating their sister. this shooting happened about 3:30 this morning on filbert street. investigators say when the 34 year old parapreach psychiatric intervened his brother charged at him. john mapp was slot in the chest and later died from his injuries. >> like i said i wasn't there but i know that this is a

tragedy that's going to rock the family forever. >> police are questioning the brother right now. he told them mapp was physically abusive toward him and their sister. also the united states is now urging palestinian militants to accept a ceasefire agreement with us roll hoping to end nearly two weeks of fighting. the israeli army continued to send rockets into gaza 13 of their soldiers were killed on the ground and dozens more injured in the deadliest day since the fighting began. the death toll continues to rise on both sides. health officials in gaza say at least 65 palestinians were killed and another 300 wounded. president obama says secretary of state kerry will soon travel to egypt to help broker a ceasefire. and some israeli children are in bryn mawr today part of a camp unlike any other in the world. states, it may be hard to comprehend the level of conflict that plagues countries across the world. in the last two decades hundreds of thousands have lost their lives to extremism, to terrorism. sunday in bryn mawr you don't have to comprehend. these are the children of conflict. >> he was killed. so much painful. >> reporter: 22 year old french student adrian was eating lunch with his family in saudia arabia some seven years ago on a teaching mission. they were ambushed randomly by islamic extremists. four people were shot and killed. he watched his father die. >> you feel like you're in a big nightmare and that you're going to wake up at some point but you don't. >> reporter: it took some time but eventually he did wake up thanks in part he says to project common bond. >> i think you have this need to connect with other people and to share your experiences. >> reporter: the summer camp is a week long escape for kids

if international teams will have full access to the site. cbs correspondent craig boswell has more. >> reporter: outrage gross as refrigerated train cars carry victims' bodies away from the malaysia airlines crash site. parents of the child victims are pleading for the return of the remains. >> send them home. >> please. >> please. >> reporter: a ukrainian spokesperson says armed rebels forced workers to hand over almost 200 bodies now bounds for rebel held city. the separatists controlling the area have also recovered the black boxes. [speaking foreign language] >> reporter: secretary of state john kerry says evidence is mounting that russian backed separatists shot down flight 17 and moscow needs to clear the way for international investigators. >> because of russia's linkage to these separatists they have a greater ability to exert influence and we need russia to become part of the solution not part of the problem. >> reporter: cbs news confirms u.s. intelligence

one spot we're not seeing the sunshine is down at the shore. we'll go to our neighborhood network. live look at margate just some stubborn low level clouds keeping temperatures a little cool. a breeze off the ocean. the inlands spots up to 82 officially in philadelphia, normal highs 87 so again below that but that's going to change the next few days. 81 at the airport right now, 70 degrees in wildwood but that wind off the ocean 79 in allentown. some suburbs already into the upper 70's and quakertown and doylestown. we're dry on storm scan3 and just maybe a few clouds coming through the overnight hours so your monday looking pretty nice, sunshine and clouds, mid 80's for philadelphia. upper 70's at the shore in the poconos. we'll talk about that heat and humidity when it arrives in the full forecast in a few minutes. >> all right, justin thanks. we'll see you soon. a woman is lucky to be alive after being hit by a van while sitting on her porch in southwest philadelphia. this was the scene just after 10 o'clock this morning at 65th street and dick's a the victim is listed in stable

condition at the hospital of the university of pennsylvania. l and i was called out to assess the structural damage to that home and one next door and so far no charges have been filed in this case. the american red cross meantime is called in to help after a van crashes through a building in bellmawr, new jersey. no one was seriously hurt on east browning road overnight but we are told that three people were displaced. as you can see, the damage is pretty significant there. the vehicle bears the name paradigm mechanical. an investigation is under way to try to figure out how this all started. and an all-out effort to help a child suffering from a very rare disease that's causing him to go deaf and blind. "eyewitness news" at the flying w airport in medford, new jersey. it was the second annual help henry see and here fundraiser. six-year-old henry norton suffers from usher's syndrome. he was born deaf and is happenedly losing his vision as well. captain america, american ninja warriors and lots of other supporters turned out

for this fundraising event. >> they are coming out to raise money for access, that's what we're all about is access, everybody should be able to read something, if it's in braille everyone should be able to be safe without curbs falling over and everyone should have an interpreter to be able to sign. >> his family hopes the fundraiser will bring awareness to this genetic condition. in the u.s. about four babies in everyone hundred thousand born have usher's syndrome. the faithful in our area gathered to pray in the name of the newly sainted pope john paul ii. first class relic the blood of the pope still in its liquid state was used to bless all of those who gathered for weekend masses at the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul. some touched their rosaceaes to the relic, others carried prayer cards. the knights of columbus have been entrusted with this relic to foster devotion to the new pope. horrifying accident captured on tape a hot air balloon flies into power lines

hollywood. actor james garner has died. authorities say the star died from natural causes inside his los angeles home last night. his tv credits included maverick and the rock ford files. garner was nominated for an oscar in 1985 for his role in murphy's romance. he was 86 years old. federal officials meantime they're investigating a hot air balloon crash and explosion that was all captured on tape. take a look. five people were injured when their hot air balloon struck a power line in massachusetts. it happened just last night just before 8 o'clock in the suburbs near boston. eyewitnesses say when the balloon hit the power lines it caused at least two explosions and immediately caught fire. six people were on board at the time of that very frightening crash. also swimmers of all ages they come together in south jersey trying to raise money for a very good calls.

the 11th an july master's meet held in glassboro. proceeds benefit the club's swim and dive team and also the special olympics of new jersey. participants ranged in age from 18 to 95. the 95-year-old was talked into registering by his daughter and her husband. he may not have bohn but he sure held his own. >> i enjoy it very much. where i live we have a pool and i swim for exercise. it helps with the good health and the good attitude. >> very proud. he keeps himself young. he keeps reinventing himself every day. >> that's the key. fletcher actually participated in two events, the 25 and the 50-meter freestyle races and he did an awesome job out there. congratulations. all right, justin, welcome back. you've got this vacation glow

go. you've been in the sun. we can tell. >> yeah, a lot of sunshine. >> and a lot of sunshine today. >> more sunshine in our forecast. going to warm the temperatures up as well. it will feel a little more like summer by the middle of the week with some humidity now. check out what's happening at the shore right now. this is ocean city. more clouds, low level clouds keeping temperatures a little cool. we have a breeze off the water. that ocean water upper 60's to around 70. still looks like there's some waves going on with a few surf evers out there. i don't blame them. i would be out there. inlands where we have the sunshine 81 degrees at the airport in philadelphia but 71 at the atlantic city airport, 70 in wildwood with that wind right off the water. again those inland spots going to be the warmest over the next few days. disarm scan three we're quiet. generally clearing skies for the inlands spots, low level clouds lingering along the coastline but otherwise partly cloudy skies tonight. some changes this week. right now the jet stream has taken a sag to our south allowing that cooler air to move in but by the next few days, we're talking about the jet stream rising to the north. we'll bring back that heat and

humidity, have a shot at some 90-degree temperatures and an oppressive feel to the air mass. here's how the humidity breaks down the next few days. monday tomorrow really not that bad. it's going to be moderate. it will start feeling humid tuesday. then we're back to the oppressive feel wednesday afternoon and with that we'll talk about the chances for some scattered showers and storms. nothing tomorrow, though. generally a mixture of sunshine and clouds. looks like a nice day no matter where you are across the delaware valley. tuesday there could be an isolate the shower well to our north and west. that humid air starts to build in. i think a better shot will come into the picture for showers and storms late wednesday and then again on thursday as our next cold front comes through again not an all day washout. don't cancel the plans. really they're scattered storms that will happen during the afternoon. temperatures tomorrow inlands back into the mid 80's. a little warmer than today. cooler near the coast, we make it to the upper 70's along the new jersey shore, delaware beaches. tuesday even warmer, upper 80's getting close to that 90-degree mark which i think we'll hit wednesday. it's still comfortable overnight, partly cloudy, we'll drop to about 66 for

center city, little bit cooler in the suburbs. warmer day on monday, sunshine and clouds, 85 for the high temperature. so, we're closer to average. at the shore tomorrow mix of sunshine and clouds. breeze off the water from the southeast, that keeps the air temperature down, upper 70's. 85 tomorrow, a few more clouds tuesday up to 88. more humid. it's hot and humid on wednesday, 91. there could be a late day shower or storm. i think thursday's the better chance to see them as a cold front approaches. highs in there upper 80's. then the humidity drops again for friday into the weekend, looking very pleasant end of the week. sunshine with highs in the mid 80's. >> not a bad looking week at all. >> not bad at all. >> thank you so much justin. leslie's got lots of sports highlights. >> that's right. no complaints. phillies looking for the series win against atlanta. second inning no score, john mayberry got the start, ryan howard connects with the pitch goes over the wall. phillies take the lead.

braves came back against kendrick. for chris johnson a two run homer. atlanta would go oh on top. the braves put the game away. bases loaded for tommy louisiana stella. the braves beat the phillies eight to two. the trade deadline less than two weeks away reportedly the giants and blue jays are interestd in all-star seconds baseman chase utley. both teams in need of more offense. the second baseman chase would take care of that but utley has a no trade clause and has said he wants to stay right here in philadelphia. a.j. burnett has drawn interest from the pirates. last season he pitched in pittsburgh and they loved how he mentored their young pitching staff. derek cole on the dl. yes, they need another arm. aj has a 4.08 era in 21 starts. the year two of the chip kelly era officially getting under way on friday when the players report for training camp at the novacare complex. no quarterback controversy this season.

nick foles is the man. last season the offense was great, the defense not so hot allowing almost 5,000 yards. connor barwin says the d will be much better this season. >> our defense is growing. the package is growing. i think we're, you know, working on the finer details. so i think it's just about improving overall on defense and hopefully we pick up kind of where we left off last year, the way we played the second half of the season we need to start that way and grow throughout the year. >> rory mcilroy had a six shot lead going into today's final round of the british open with a victory he would complete the third leg of the career grand slam. sergio garcia made a run at mcilroy here on 10. he makes eagle putt, just two shots behind rory so could he catch him? nope. can't get out of the bunker right here on 15. he bogied the hole and finished tied for second at 15 under par. rory, however, tapped in for par on 18 to go wire to wire for the win at the british open. >> i felt like my game was in

"eyewitness news" at shady brook farm in bucks county. now, this is a different kind of race. one i like. runners, they jog a bit for a mile, then stop and eat a quart or a pint of ice cream and then they run back to the starting line. or just a slow trek. many racers dressed in funny costumes trying to celebrate
