little warmer for me. i opened up that door. i was like, oh, it's a nice cool temperature. it feels nice. >> yes it does. so we've have, you know, a little bit of a sea breeze, a little bit of cloud cover. but by the afternoon our temperatures are just pleasant, at least across most of the bay area. a little cool along the coast outside our doors at this hour. waking up very similar to yesterday. we have the clouds out there this morning. a live look at sfo. the sun will rise just before a 6 a.m. this morning. so a couple hours to go. getting into the afternoon we're going to break away from the clouds, the patchy drizzle that we're seeing out there this morning. and temperatures are expected to be slightly warmer. i'll have a better look at the current conditions. the afternoon highs and what we can expect for the rest of the week. coming up in just a bit. 401 let's see how the highways are doing this morning with sal. good morning. >> good morning to you, rosemary. you know right now we have a very good start to the morning commute. let's go outside and take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. it looks very nice. and we're expecting a light commute right now on the peninsula. the same thing goes. we don't have anything going on

the peninsula or in the east bay. not even highway four has a slowdown westbound. there is some construction work, however. eastbound highway four, as you drive over toward the willow pass grade from concord. so watch for a slowdown there. 401 let's get back to the headlines. >> okay, sal. thank you. a family in the east bay is asking for help to find their missing loved one. >> as ktvu is alice wertz reports, the 25 year old man has been missing for several weeks. >> daniel chow and his cousin kyle ma are worried about daniel's brother, who's been missing since april 23rd. 25 year-old dennis chow suffers from schizophrenia. he first went missing april 13th, but his family found him day after we drove him to the e.r. here in hayward, where he was able to get seen for all of those blisters he had on his feet. >> but to also get a psychiatric evaluation from the doctor, where he then got transported to john george to begin receiving care under a 5150 that was

eventually extend to a 5250. >> during his two week hold, he was transported from john george psychiatric hospital to san leandro hospital. it's now under alameda health system. he was taken there for an ultrasound. >> my mom and i went to san leandro hospital to talk to security, and all that they said was, you know, he ran off. we tried to run after him a bit, but we couldn't catch him, and that's all they told me. chow is a graduate of tennyson high school in hayward. >> he went on to brown university. >> yes. he's a graduate of brown university. he is a gates millennium scholar, so he has a full ride scholarship to college and to any other education that he would want to pursue. >> according to ma, every time they've received a tip about a sighting, they just miss him. >> and they told us on april 28th he was, like he was at westfield valley fair mall. he was trying to shoplift and they weren't going to press any charges. so they just let him go and they removed the missing persons report without even

telling us. >> the family has been doing their own searching. dennis chow was last seen in king city in monterey county. it's likely the family will head there to look for him. >> i think that we just need law enforcement to be more aware of the situations like this. i mean, i'm just driving around san leandro in the bay area. there's so many homeless people with mental health issues, and i think that the system could do a lot better than this in san leandro. >> alice wirtz, ktvu, fox two news. >> thank you. alice, a jury in alameda county has convicted a man of second degree murder for killing his girlfriend. investigators say joseph roberts killed 27 year old elizabeth buckner in their pleasanton apartment last summer. her body later washed ashore on the alameda shoreline. elizabeth buckner was a law school student who was just two months away from earning her degree. her mother spoke outside the courthouse yesterday, shortly after the jury announced its decision. >> today's verdict means for me is that i don't have to look

over my shoulder for right now. i've lived in trauma, in terror. >> the jury convicted roberts of second degree murder. he will be back in court june 14th to be sentenced and could face 15 years to life in prison. >> our time is 404 happening today. a strike vote to be taken by nurses at san francisco's public hospitals. now this involves nurses at hospitals that include sf general and laguna honda, where nurses claim the staffing levels are extremely low and that patient care is at risk. now. since february, union reps have been negotiating with the department of public health and say the city has rejected all of their proposals about staffing levels. now, the voting by nurses is expected to continue until friday. san francisco's public health department says 166 new nurses have been hired since december. >> governor gavin newsom is heading to the bay area today.

the governor will be in san mateo county, where he'll give an update on the state's efforts to reshape the mental health system. he's also expected to talk about the plans to speed up the process in providing support for those who are seriously ill and homeless. time is 405 in new york. >> more testimony this morning by donald trump's former lawyer, michael cohen, at the criminal trial of the former president. now, yesterday in court, cohen's testimony backed up the claims by prosecutors that trump knew all the details about a payment made to former adult movie star stormy daniels in this case, you've got extraordinary written documentation, you've got all of those ledger entries, you've got the checks signed by mr. trump, you've got evidence from other disinterested witnesses that the checks were written in new york and were fedex down to washington and then sent back. now, later today, michael cohen will be cross-examined by donald trump's defense lawyers. they'll try to raise doubts about cohen's credibility, among other

things. michael cohen served time in prison for lying to congress and for federal charges related to those payments. >> strengthening california's child sex trafficking laws faces a delay. the bill would make it a felony to purchase or solicit a child for sex. it is currently a misdemeanor. however, it is now in the suspense file at the legislature because of expected costs this thursday. this and hundreds of other bills will end up in a special hearing where they are either passed or quickly killed without public discussion. >> that is the question before us. will the two houses take an approach where they hold bills that have any significant financial impact? that, or do they wait until late summer to make those decisions after the budget has already been adopted? >> now, the bills analysis so far shows it could cost millions of dollars due to the impacts of increased prison time. >> tom a07 the us supreme court will allow the state of

california to be sued over a deadly outbreak of covid 26 prison inmates, and one prison guard died after infected inmates were transferred from chino state prison to san quentin back in 2020. now, the attorneys claim the inmates were not tested or quarantined. federal courts denied the claims by the state that it had qualified immunity, and said state prison officials can be held liable for harms caused by dangers. the system either created or failed to prevent. >> smoke from canadian wildfires has prompted health warnings in the united states. for the second year in a row, more than 100 wildfires are now raging out of control. all across british columbia and alberta. strong winds have pushed heavy smoke from northern canada across the border into the u.s. smoke has also now filled the skies in montana, the dakotas, minnesota and wisconsin. on. the canadian government is warning the situation could get worse over the next two days. the next 48

hours will be a challenging situation for the rock northern rockies regional municipality, given forecasted ongoing westerly winds and extremely dry and volatile fuels in the area. just last year, dangerous levels of canadian wildfire smoke drifted over several major us cities, including new york. >> here at home, we have a nice onshore breeze for today. good air quality, especially closer to the coast. inside the bay, our temperatures are going to be just a tad warmer today. for most, it's going to feel a lot like yesterday. here's a look over sfo waking up with a little bit of fog out there. the low clouds, patchy drizzle and you can see here our temperatures very similar to yesterday within a couple of degrees for most san carlos. you're waking up a little bit warmer at about four four degrees warmer. we've got 54 degrees at sfo, 51 in livermore and in the north bay this morning. upper 40s to start your day. novato, santa rosa, a

little bit of a chill in the air. but as we get into the afternoon, another beautiful one coming our way, an onshore breeze through fairfield right now, reporting a 20mph to expected to pick up into the afternoon. if you're going to see the giants play a little bit later today, it's going to be cool and brisk at oracle park. visibility not too bad, but you can see we do have some fog out there right now. visibility in santa rosa three miles petaluma reporting for patchy drizzle, perhaps along the coastline. maybe in our hills this morning looking at a mid-morning burn off. here's a look at to ten or by noontime we've got mostly cloudy skies on the coast. mostly sunny for the rest of us into the evening hours. those low clouds kind of hanging tough . here's a look at sunset, where it is beginning to move back across the bay. once again, we will have partly cloudy skies. it looks like for most by sunset temperatures for today near average for our coastline and around the bay. but our inland cities going above 82 in santa rosa for the afternoon, 82 in san jose. a better look at these

the serial number taken off, the other was unregistered. >> our time is 413 for people in san jose have been displaced because of a fire at a buddhist temple. it happened last night around 6 p.m. on foss avenue near interstate 680. it took about two hours for firefighters to get those flames under control. it affected both the temple and the house right behind it, and the four people living there have been displaced. but no one was hurt. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> the search is on for an inmate who walked away from a conservation camp in solano county. the department of corrections says james shong, a minimum security prisoner, was last seen at 7:00 yesterday morning during breakfast between suisun city and rio vista. he is described as five feet, nine inches tall. there's his photo, 150 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. anyone who may have spotted him is asked to call police immediately. >> well, protesters gathered in petaluma outside of a campaign

event for a bay area congressman about the war in gaza. ktvu is joey horta. was there at the event for congressman jared huffman, and we'll tell you what they wanted him to do. free palestine. free, free palestine. >> dozens of pro-palestine protesters carrying flags and banners outside of anita's brewery in petaluma on monday night. inside democratic congressman jared huffman holding a private campaign fundraiser. no peace are stolen land. protesters are calling out huffman, who is running for reelection in district two, for voting in favor of the us funding. israel's war in gaza, which they are against. >> why are you trying to put a band aid over a gunshot wound? the money going towards israel to injure palestinians needs to stop in april, congress approved setting aside $26 billion to support israel. >> i don't want my tax money to

bit. it doesn't look like anything too dramatic. and that will be the pattern that kind of holds into place for the next several days. there's a look at your futurecast model into tomorrow afternoon, and notice we are just on the east edge here of this ridge that will keep that storm truck well to the north and keep our temperatures very seasonal for the coast as well as our bayside communities. our inland areas will be a little bit above average for today. 51 degrees right now in san francisco, 50 in napa. good morning. brentwood, you're at 55. your afternoon highs for today a low 60s at the coast, mid 60s in san francisco going to the giants game. going to be a cool one out there with the breeze and temperatures expected to be in the upper 50s by game time later this evening, 79 in napa. low to mid 80s for our hotter spots inland, 84 for livermore into the afternoon. a viewf your extended forecast. temperatures don't change much moving forward. take a look at wednesday, thursday, even into friday, we finally begin to see temperatures drop off ever so slightly. low 60s at the coast, low 70s around the bay, low 80s

victory in their planned move to las vegas, the nevada supreme court rejected a proposed ballot measure that would have allowed voters to overturn a public funding deal for a new ballpark for the a's along the vegas strip. now, lawmakers have approved $380 million for that billion dollar project. but the

group schools over stadiums had been collecting signatures for a referendum that would allow that measure to be decided by the voters. >> i think the public is tired of their politicians spending time on these kind of endeavors. while essential things like schools, housing go either unfixed or unnoticed, all we are trying to do was ask nevadans, do you want to pay for a billionaires stadium with public money? and that's it. >> now, the nevada supreme court upheld a lower court ruling that found that the language of the proposed ballot measure was confusing the group's schools over stadiums. says it will try again to put a measure on the ballot. meantime, the oakland a's are trying to turn around a losing streak tonight. they're going to play in houston after losing four of their last five games. alex bregman of the houston astros hit two homers last night as the astros scored six runs in the late innings to beat the a's 9 to 2. the giants

will host the first place los angeles dodgers tonight at oracle park for game two of their series. >> last night, the dodgers defeated san francisco in extra innings as l.a. catcher will smith hit a two run double in the 10th inning to lead the dodgers to a 6 to 4 win over their longtime rivals. it was the dodgers fourth straight victory over the giants this season. 35,000 fans attended game one of the series at oracle park last night, and there was a lot of dodger blue in san francisco mixed in with the orange and black ticket agencies estimate dodger fans will fill more than half of the seats at the giants home ballpark during this three game series. >> i'm a big fan of ohtani. i'm a big fan of yamamoto, so i'm first time seeing them both play ever. so i'm looking forward to that. >> we're thinking about jiang hu. we hope he gets better, we're tired of seeing yastrzemski out there, giants, baby, we're coming back. we're bringing up all the kids from sacramento. we got to play

altamont pass on westbound 580. as you come in, let's take a look with our maps here you will see that the traffic is going to be affected. it's also a crash in that area. eastbound 580 at greenville road. so give yourself a little bit of extra time as you drive through. no major issues as you're driving west right now. you can see traffic is moving along well, turn this down real quick. the bay bridge toll plaza is not a backup right now. it looks good getting into san francisco, 430. let's get back to the headlines. all right. >> thank you. sal. organizers say they are planning a mass protest outside google's i o conference in mountain view today. this comes just weeks after the after google fired dozens of workers who held sit in protests at the offices in sunnyvale, seattle and new york. organizers say hundreds of people are expected to try to shut down the conference at shoreline amphitheater. protesters say google's project nimbus contract could ad aid the israeli military's offensive in

gaza. well, san jose state university has become the latest to join the nationwide encampment. protests against the war in gaza. >> now that university says the encampment violates school policy and they've already warned students they have to leave. ktvu lamonica peters has details at san jose state university monday, palestinian protesters set up an encampment with a list of demands for the university of palestine free free palestine protesters would not speak with ktvu on camera, but justice studies professor sam kill, who says she's a faculty adviser for the protesters, talked about students decision to stage a sit in the administration, though they send lots of emails about their concerns over wars or natural disasters like earthquakes and hurricanes. >> have yet to send one email out about the genocide that is happening against the palestinians. and we're in our seventh month now. >> protesters say they want the

university to be more transparent about its financial investments and to fully divest san jose state university released a statement saying in part, while an initial review of investments by the tower foundation board indicates no direct holdings of companies identified in the april 29th associated student resolution, we are conducting further research to confirm and we are committed to communicating an update when this research concludes. disclose divest. we will not stop. >> we will not rest. >> they're also calling for professor jonathan roth to be fired after he was involved in an altercation with a pro-palestinian protester at a campus event earlier this year. >> so my understanding was that he was put on paid leave, for me, which is a paid vacation, and that an investigation was opened up into his behavior. >> there are still protesters here at san jose state university, although they were asked to leave just before 9

p.m. on monday night. the university says it respects self-expression and freedom of speech. however, their main priority is to make sure that the campus is safe for learning. lamonica peters ktvu, fox two news lamonica. >> thank you times for 33. the university of san francisco also warning pro-palestinian protesters who've set up encampments on the campus. they have to leave by 3 p.m. today or face disciplinary action. the protesters want the university to divest from israel. they also condemn the violence against palestinian in gaza. the leaders of usf say they respect the right of free speech, but public safety on the campus is their top priority. some of the students say they will not leave the camp until all of their demands are met. >> we've been here since april 29th, and again, we're not going to leave until we get those demands met. we've made that really clear. >> now we're trying to determine what any disciplinary action

could look like. after meeting with members of the encampment yesterday, university officials say they plan to call for a ceasefire in gaza. they also plan to form a socially responsible investment task force and give encampment organizers a dedicated seat. >> a pro-palestinian group claims police took down their encampment at ucsf. now, the group set up tents at the medical complex on parnassus avenue. instagram videos show campus police officers taking down the tents and arresting one demonstrator. the group accused the medical school of forcing them to remove pro-palestinian banners off buildings. we've reached out to the university for comment but have not heard back. >> our time is now. 435 secretary of state antony blinken is on an unannounced visit to ukraine. he arrived in kyiv earlier today to reassure ukraine that it has american support in its fight against russia. antony blinken's visit comes after congress passed a

new aid package that contains $60 billion in aid for ukraine secretary blinken will meet with ukrainian leaders to get updates on the war. during his two day trip, the secretary blinken's visit comes as russia has launched a new offensive on ukrainian border cities. russian forces have captured at least seven villages along the border in recent days, triggering mass evacuations as thousands of ukrainians grab whatever they can and get out some special attention is paid to the kharkiv region defensive battles are ongoing, fierce battles on a large part of our border area, there are villages that have actually turned from a gray zone into a combat zone. now, us defense department officials say they're trying to speed up the delivery of american aid after it was held up for months in congress. >> members of the islamic community are denouncing the reaction to people who were hanging banners on a peninsula

overpass. now they say they were hanging pro-palestine banners on a pedestrian overpass over highway 101 near pierce road in menlo park, may 5th. that's when an unidentified man walked up and demanded they remove the banners. the pair agreed to remove their signs and leave, but they say the person became increasingly agitated and feared for my life in a way, because he was saying it like so loud, and he was like kind of shouting it like. >> i just felt like, okay, what if he attacks us? if we don't take this down? >> now? they say the man threw their personal items over the fence and onto the shoulder of 101 before taking off. the chp says it is investigating the incident. >> our time is now. 437 the antioch unified school district employee, who was suspended for bullying, was recently seen on surveillance cameras taking files from his office. a staff member confirmed. she escorted ken turnage to his desk earlier this month to collect belongings from his desk, but district

on the map right now. we do have some slowing on westbound 580, coming in to livermore from the altamont pass at 501. let's get back to the headlines. >> sal, thank you. well, a family in the east bay is asking for help. they want to find their missing loved one. >> as ktvu is alice wertz reports, the 25 year old man has been missing for several weeks. >> daniel chow and his cousin kyle ma are worried about daniel's brother, who's been missing since april 23rd. 25 year-old dennis chow suffers from schizophrenia. he first went missing april 13th, but his family found him day after. >> we drove him to the e.r. here in hayward, where he was able to get seen for all of those blisters he had on his feet. but to also get a psychiatric evaluation from the doctor, where he then got transported to john george to begin receiving care under a 5150 that was eventually extended to a 5250. >> during his two week hold, he was transported from john george psychiatric hospital to san leandro hospital. it's now under

alameda health system. he was taken there for an ultrasound. >> my mom and i went to san leandro hospital to talk to security and all that they said was, you know, he ran off. we tried to run after him a bit, but we couldn't catch him, and that's all they told me. >> chow is a graduate of tennyson high school in hayward. he went on to brown university. >> yes. he's a graduate of brown university. he is a gates millennium scholar, so he has a full ride scholarship to college and to any other education that he would want to pursue. >> according to ma, every time they've received a tip about a sighting, they just miss him. >> and they told us on april 28th he was, can like he was at westfield valley fair mall. he was trying to shoplift and they weren't going to press any charges. so they just let him go and they removed the missing persons report without even telling us. >> the family has been doing their own searching. dennis chow was last seen in king city in monterey county. it's likely the family will head there to look for him.

back in court june 14th to be sentenced and could face 15 years to life in prison. >> our time now 504. happening today. a strike vote to be taken by nurses at san francisco's public hospitals. now, this involved nurses at hospitals that include sf general and laguna honda. that's where nurses claim the staffing levels are extremely low. and that patient care is at risk. now, since february, union reps have been negotiating with the department of public health and the city has rejected all of their proposals about staffing levels. the voting by nurses is expected to continue until friday. san francisco's public health department says 166 new nurses have been hired since december. >> governor gavin newsom is heading to the bay area today. the governor will be in san mateo county, where he will give an update on the state's efforts to reshape the mental health care system. he's also expected to talk about the plans to speed up the process, and providing support for those who are seriously ill and homeless.

the start of google's flagship developers conference here near their google campus in mountain view. >> and behind us you can see some of the cars lined up. these are people not attending the conference. the conference starts at ten, but probably people working the conference today. and there's, there's directing traffic heading into the amphitheater. but an organization that calls itself no tech for genocide says it plans to stage a protest here to call attention to google's business contracts with the israeli government, specifically google's project nimbus. that's the focus of the protesters concerns. since 2021, google and amazon have provided cloud computing service artificial intelligence and other tech services to the israeli military under a $1.2 billion contract. just last month, nine google workers staged a sit in protest at the office of one of the executives overseeing the project, nimbus program that sit in lasted for several hours when it ended, according to the protest group. those nine workers and about 50 other

to israel. >> the administration, though they send lots of emails about their concerns over wars or natural disasters like earthquakes and hurricanes, have yet to send one email out about the genocide that is happening against the palestinians. and we're in our seventh month now. >> now, the university says while it respects freedom of speech, its main priority is keeping the campus safe for learning. they also say the encampment violates school policy, and the university of san francisco is warning pro palestinian protesters who set up encampments on the campus they have to leave by 3 p.m. today or face disciplinary action. the protesters want the university to divest from israel. they condemn the violence against palestinians in gaza. the leaders of usf say they respect the right of free speech, but public safety on the campus is their main priority. some of the students say they won't leave the camp until their demands are met. we been here

months in congress. >> alarming reports show it happens every day in every hospital. someone comes in for a procedure and ends up getting very sick, infected with sepsis. it's a condition that is difficult to diagnose early, which is why it can be fatal. but this morning, the good news is it is changing. thanks to i. fox medical team's dina centofanti joins us now with this new encouraging use for technology. good morning dina. >> yes. good morning pam. this is interesting. and i feel like ai is coming at us fast. but this is an application that could save lives potentially. i talked to the doctor who tested this software. so first let's talk about sepsis. sepsis. if it hasn't impacted your life in some way, you probably don't even pay any attention to it. but if it has impacted you, you know how frightening it is. it kills about 300,000 americans every year. there are many things that put you at risk for being in the hospital is one of them. anybody can get sepsis. it's the body's overreaction to an infection. blood flow slows

down, organs get, put in jeopardy, and it leads to fatal organ failure. in some cases, if it's not caught early, oftentimes it's not caught early because you're in the hospital, you've already got all these weird symptoms happening. and so it gets overlooked. now this software is meant to change that with early diagnosis. take a listen. >> is the first, fda approved software as device for detecting sepsis. so it's a software product. it's ai based, and it takes a bunch of vital signs, lab results that are drawn normally. information out of the medical record, and then specific labs that are part of the test and puts them all together and predicts whether or not a person has sepsis and it's better than anything else out there. >> so that's doctor simms. he's an infectious disease researcher. and the idea is to get this sepsis immunoscore

distributed to doctors at every level in the hospital system so that you don't need necessarily an infectious disease doctor to come and analyze your symptoms. but simply the computer software will put them all together and tell you whether a patient might be septic. >> dina. absolutely incredible that this use of technology, any other advice that they're sharing with the technology and things that we should consider because it is a scary situation in. >> well, it's funny because when it comes to sepsis, you'll see signs all over hospitals be be aware of sepsis. sepsis is our top priority, but at the same time it's going undiagnosed all the time because the symptoms are so subtle. that's why people say, well, what are the symptoms of sepsis? how can i know? and oftentimes you don't know because you're already in a compromised state because you're in the hospital. so lethargy, blood changes in blood pressure or just an overall feeling of you can't get out of bed. and it's not necessarily related to

at the university campus, though they have not reached any agreement just yet. now, university officials say those students need to be out of here with that encampment broken down by 3:00 this afternoon, the school says the camp violates school code. and if protesters stay, the university says they'll lose their opportunity for full amnesty. >> we're not really completely sure what that's going to look like, you know? so that is giving a lot of students here anxiety, especially students that are high risk because this school is a private university, students are paying $70,000 a year to go here. >> that encampment has been here since the end of april. students say they've gotten a great deal of support, including a number of jewish students who have joined their cause. those in the encampment say they don't plan to leave until their demands are met. one demand discussed between those students and the university president asking the president to publicly say palestine is experiencing a genocide, which these students say the president did not agree

to. of course, it's a developing story. once we hear more updates from either the encampment or the university itself, we will bring it to you all throughout the morning. for now, we're live this morning in san francisco. i'm james torres, ktvu, fox two news. >> thank you, james. a pro-palestinian group claims police took down their encampment at ucsf. the group set up tents at the medical complex on parnassus avenue. instagram video shows campus police officers taking down the tents and arresting one demonstrator. the group accused the medical school of forcing them to remove pro-palestinian banners off buildings. we've reached out to the university for comment but we have not heard back yet. >> well, protesters in petaluma demanded that a bay area congressman vote against any future funding for israel and against the war in gaza. last night, dozens of protesters rallied outside of a private fundraiser for congressman jared huffman. they stood out there more than two hours with flags and signs and chanted their demands. now, earlier this

month, congressman huffman posted on social media a call for an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages. but the protesters say that's not enough. >> why are you trying to put a band-aid over a gunshot wound? the money going towards israel to injure palestinians needs to stop. >> i don't want my tax money to go to be funding this war and the occupation. >> now, last month congress approved $26 billion to support israel. congressman huffman voted in favor of the bill. well happening today google is hosting its annual developers conference in mountain view. and protesters say they will be there. this year's meeting is focused on artificial intelligence, since the conference is being held just weeks after the tech giant fired dozens of workers who held sit in protests at google offices in sunnyvale, seattle and new york. the organizers of the protests say hundreds of people will try

to shut down the conference later this morning. they're protesting google's business ties to the israeli government and the israeli military. stay here with mornings on two. ktvu allie rasmus is out there. she's going to bring us a live report from mountain view in our next half hour. well, a family in the east bay wants help in the continuing search for a missing loved one who's been missing for several weeks now. they're saying 25 year old dennis chow of hayward is dealing with serious mental health problems. and he has no money and no cell phone. family members say he hasn't been seen since april 23rd, just ten days after the first time he wandered away from home. they found him at one point, but say he ran away from a hospital. >> we found him at dublin bart station and when we found him, his feet were heavily blistered and the day after we drove him to the er here in hayward, where he was able to get seen for all of those blisters he had on his

feet. but to also get a psychiatric evaluation from the doctor. >> now the family says they're frustrated. they say that he was allowed to escape from the hospital and with law enforcement, they think chow could now be in monterey county and more family members are flying in from vietnam to help with the search. a hayward based technology company has agreed to pay $250,000 in penalties in a case with ties to bart. >> hsk technology announced the agreement over accusations it submitted false claims over communication equipment used by bart. the allegations go back eight years. the company's contracts involve the massive, ongoing project to expand bart's rail system to san jose. >> our time now 607 oakland's new police chief is officially on his job. police chief floyd mitchell finished his first day on the job after spending weeks meeting with oakland police leaders, learning about the police department and its

a stand at trump's criminal trial in new york. ktvu andre senior here to tell us what we can expect from the courtroom this morning. andre. >> well, pam, we're just learning this morning that donald trump will be joined in court by several republican supporters, including house speaker mike johnson, north dakota governor doug burgum and former presidential candidate vivek ramaswamy. trump's defense attorneys could begin cross-examination of michael cohen today. that follows cohen's testimony yesterday, where he said trump was involved in a conspiracy to suppress stories of alleged sexual affairs in order to avoid harm to his 2016 presidential candidacy. cohen testified, quote, what i was doing was at the direction of and benefit of mr. trump. everything required. mr. trump's signoff, end quote. cohen's testimony backed up claims by prosecutors that trump knew all the details about a payment made to former adult movie actress stormy daniels. >> in this case, you've got extraordinary written

about his disregard for highway safety on his youtube channel that led to his conviction last month. >> a jury in alameda county has convicted a man of second degree murder for killing his girlfriend. investigators say joseph roberts killed 27 year old elizabeth buckner in their pleasanton apartment last summer. her body later washed up along the alameda shoreline. elizabeth buckner was a law school student who was just two months away from earning her degree. her mother spoke outside the courthouse yesterday, shortly after the jury announced its decision. >> well, today's verdict means for me is that i don't have to look over my shoulder for right now. i've lived in trauma, in terror. >> the jury convicted roberts of second degree murder. he will be back in court june 14th to be sentenced and could face 15 years to life in prison. >> tom is now 616 for people in san jose have been displaced because of a fire at a buddhist temple. it happened last night

about 6 p.m. on false avenue near interstate 680. it took about two hours for firefighters to get the flames under control. that fire affected both the buddhist temple and the house right behind it, and the four people living there have been displaced, but nobody was hurt. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> a judge in sonoma county reduced the charges against two women who are accused of trespassing and vandalism at a poultry farm in petaluma. about 50 people with the group direct action everywhere targeted petaluma poultry on lakeville highway last june. investigators say four protesters entered the property by cutting through a chain link fence, and they took 5 or 6 birds. the two women are scheduled to return to court may 23rd to be arraigned on the new reduced charges. >> our time is 617. a strike vote could be taken today by nurses at san francisco's public hospitals. now, this involves nurses at hospitals that include sf general and laguna honda,

weapons have been used in ways inconsistent with israel's obligations. however, they add, wartime conditions prevented the us from making that determination for specific airstrikes. aid workers say they're struggling to distribute dwindling food and other supplies to displaced palestinians in the region. planned parenthood northern california just opened a bigger facility in the east bay. the new el cerrito health center will have double the amount of exam rooms and more family planning services, including abortion care. it was relocated to accommodate the growing demand for services from july 2022 through last june. the health center served more than 5000 patients. well, today, the brentwood city council will consider making changes to how it manages outdoor dining. the city council will discuss whether restaurants can use sidewalk space for tables and outdoor dining. a staff report says there have been some complaints of outdoor tables taking up too much space, making it hard for people to walk by.

the council is aiming to clarify the rules for downtown brentwood about how businesses can set up dining and create new enforcement rules. the menlo park council members have approved a new safety plan for one of the city's busiest streets. they voted to permanently ban parking along a stretch of middle avenue following a six month test program. council members also voted to keep buffeted bike lanes in place on that same road. those supporting the changes say they will decrease car traffic in and at the same time making middle avenue safer for bicyclists. a new apartment complex in downtown santa rosa is nearing completion and is scheduled to start leasing to tenants by next spring. city leaders and developers celebrated the topping out of construction of the eight story complex on mendocino avenue. the complex has 168 studio, one bedroom and two bedroom market rate apartments. the ground floor has space for retail along fifth street. in our continuing coverage of aapi heritage month, san jose is honoring its

time. it's backed up from antioch. so tuesdays are busier usually than mondays or fridays. you can see bay bridge is backed up all the way through the maze. we had an earlier problem in san francisco that was cleared up. san mateo bridge traffic is okay and if you're driving to the south bay, that's a pretty good start to that commute also on the peninsula. 631 let's get back to the headlines. >> thank you sal. well, today a group of tech workers planning a protest and rally outside google's tech conference in mountain view. they say they want to draw attention to google's business contracts with the israeli military. ktvu ali rasmus joins us now from mountain view to talk about what's happening on the google campus right now. ali >> well, pam, all we can see on the campus right now is a lot of the last minute preparations for this conference. that's scheduled to start a couple of hours from now. if you step out of the way, you can see the people working the conference, getting checked in, getting their credentials. security is pretty tight here. we've seen a lot of checkpoints where people are having their badges checked,

making sure they're authorized to be here and we've seen some metal detectors as well at some of the entrances. google hosting its flagship developers conference at its campus in mountain view today, and thousands are expected to attend the conference in person and online from around the world. the focus of the google i o conference is on artificial intelligence, but an organization that calls itself no tech for genocide plans to stage a protest. here they want to call attention to google's business contracts with the israeli government and israeli military. the group says it is particularly focused on a program called project nimbus. since 2021, google and amazon have provided cloud computing, service and artificial intelligence and other tech services to the israeli government under a $1.2 billion contract. just last month, nine google workers staged a sit in protest at the office of one of the executives overseeing the project nimbus program. it went on for several hours before those nine workers were arrested. another 40 or so

costs. >> they had just had their baby and they were so happy talking about getting married and, it's all just been taken away. >> the driver that hit them was killed as well. the chp says alcohol is believed to be a factor in that crash. >> san francisco's mass transit agency has unveiled its latest plan to crack down on fare evaders. muni is hiring three dozen new fare inspectors who will begin work across the city july 1st. their chief goal is to make sure everyone who takes mass transit in san francisco pays for their ride, muni estimates 20% of its riders regularly skip paying. >> we can't sustain muni service without people paying their fair fare. it is about a quarter of our operators salary. if we're not able to bring fare compliance up a bit, we will have no choice but to reduce muni service. >> muni has also announced its
