the burns will be held in intermittent segments over the next two months. then again in the fall. our time is 415. will this week is wildfire preparedness week in california. state agencies encourage all of us to learn how to prevent fires and how to escape a fire. now, this year, the theme of wildfire preparedness week is meeting the mission through partnerships, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in managing wildfire risk. cal fire lnu in sonoma county geared up for the week with their crews taking part in the annual fire preparedness exercises. so this week we'll be participating in a readiness drill at issue camp with many of the crews throughout the state. this readiness drill is to test the preparedness of our crew. it consists of tool outs, hikes, and a line cut to see where we're at. getting ready for fire season. and we've been practicing for that for the last few weeks. now. cal fire says it

4:18 am
warning cecille juliet, a cal fire information officer, said it's important to have a good amount of defensible space surrounding your home and a go bag ready. it's always smart to have everything in place before wildfire hits, so people really year round should have their go bag ready and know what they need to take, like medications and everything that they need to keep their kids and their pets on the road for an extended period of time. they're also urging folks to have an evacuation plan in place. tell people in san mateo county, get ready, cal fire will conduct an evacuation drill this week. we're asking people who are living in this zone to volunteer to evacuate when they hear the high, low siren, juliet also told ktvu. firefighters have increased attention to forest management, using grant money to reduce hazardous fuel, restore forests and treat degraded wild lands to mitigate impact of future fires in oakland. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news. all right. thank you bailey. let's check in with steve paulson for a look at our

weather. no more rain this week. not this week. no, i think we're done here for a little bit. our system is churning in the intermountain region in the rockies. that is a huge system for this time of year, and it will be a severe weather maker in the nth degree once it crosses the rockies and goes out into the plains there. we'll be talking about that, no doubt about it. a little bit of a breeze up in the hills right now. it's mainly westerly or northwesterly, so we'll take that. there's a few little high clouds dipping down from the northwest. some fog is offshore. 30s and 40s quite cool for us here. petaluma's 4038 up in kelseyville 41 menlo park. walnut creek is down to 4240, in orinda, lafayette. panels were 39. north dublin 40. for us this is cool. castro valley also at 40 degrees. so if you feel like it's a little chill in the air, you're right. 25 south lake tahoe, truckee at 32 mount shasta also at 32, mammoth at 24 cool degrees. after we get past tuesday, then all signs point towards a more high pressure and

new focus on tourism in california. good morning ali. good morning dave. well, a new report released this weekend says that california tourism spending in california hit a post pandemic record when it comes to spending of about $150 billion, according to this report. that's how much money tourists spent coming to visit our state. and according to the report, it is up from the previous record of $144 billion spent by tourists here back in 2019. but the picture isn't so perfect. when you take a closer look at the details of this report. first of all, most of the increase in spending tourism spending is in southern california. according to the state tourism website. visit california. tourist spending in the bay area region wasn't quite as robust in 2023. tourists spent $37.7 billion in the bay area. that's down slightly from $39 billion spent in 2019. even so, governor gavin newsom touted the statewide increase in spending as a win in this video.

he circulated on social media over the weekend. magnificence of the san francisco bay. what a perfect place to announce our record breaking tourism numbers. when you look more closely at those record breaking tourism numbers, the report says that adjusting for inflation, travel spending in california is actually down 14% from its peak in 2019. so that increase in spending is due primarily to inflation and things just costing more when tourists come here. but the report does add that that travel spending has led to the creation of more tourism jobs now compared to four years ago. so the numbers are a mixed bag, which is why state and city leaders, particularly here in san francisco, say it's really important to continue to try and have a conferences like this cybersecurity conference that's happening here at the rsa conference that's happening at moscone center this week live in

6:33 am
pam. the short answer for the reason in that increase is inflation. things cost more in 2023 than they did four years ago before the pandemic. and that includes vacations. even so, governor gavin newsom is touting the increase in tourism spending statewide as a win for the state. in a video he circulated on social media over the weekend. take a look. magnificence of the san francisco bay what a perfect place to announce our record breaking tourism numbers. the new report, released this weekend, says people coming to visit california spent $150 billion last year, up from the previous record of $144 billion back in 2019. the money spent varies by region and it wasn't quite as robust here in the bay area compared to the rest of the state. according to the state tourism website visit california. in 2023, tourists spent 37.7 billion in the bay area, down slightly from 39 billion spent here in 2019. but looking at the statewide picture again, a much of the increase is
6:34 am
because of inflation. the report says itself that adjusting for inflation, travel spending in california is actually down 14% from its peak in 2019. so the boost in tourism spending is because things cost more, not because more people are coming to our state. however the report does add that 98% of travel industry jobs that existed here in california before the pandemic have returned. and so the report says that that is also a good indicator of a recovery of the tourism sector here in our state. live in san francisco. ali rasmus, ktvu, fox two news, okay, ali, thank you. time now 633. one of alameda county's smallest cities is also among the state's fastest growing areas. a new state report found emeryville's population climbed above 13,000 at the beginning of this year, a 5% increase over the population of emeryville from january of last year. it is the second

the crews throughout the state. this readiness drill is to test the preparedness of our crew. it consists of tool outs, hikes, and a line cut to see where we're at getting ready for fire season. and we've been practicing for that for the last few weeks. cal fire says it has made significant progress on fuel reduction and mitigation, and last year, more than 105,000 acres of fuel and grasses were treated. cal fire says fuel reduction projects are essential to slowing down and reducing the intensity of wildfires. the democratic party is hoping a new policy on marijuana will gain the support of younger voters. the biden administration. it will help our country close the book. the biden administration wants to ease federal restrictions on cannabis for the first time in 50 years. republicans believe it is purely a political move. others say it presents an opportunity for the country to end the war on cannabis. it will help our country close the book once and for all on the awful and harmful and failed war on drugs. i put this in the same category as
