4:01 am
>> today will be even better off. there's some fog about san francisco south. other than that, i think we're good to go clear 40s on the temps here. temps will start to bump up a little bit. we had 60s yesterday, but except for some higher clouds, everything is going up and over a ridge of high pressure. so 60s and 70s today, getting a little above average. and that trend will continue tomorrow. all right. ali is here and picking up cones i guess. i don't know anything else. >> yeah. there is some overnight road work just wrapping up on highway 13 in oakland. and overall though, we are off to a very good start. no major problems to tell you about. we can show you that on the maps. yesterday, as we know, was a rough commute for most bay area drivers. but today is another day and so far it hasn't even started getting a little bit congested at the altamont pass yet, so that's a nice easy drive. 880 in oakland looks good at this hour, and the bay bridge toll plaza nice and empty. 401. let's go back to the desk. >> okay, ali. thank you. will the case of convicted murderer scott peterson will be back in the bay area courtroom today as
4:02 am
peterson fights to get a new trial. now, his case has been taken on by the la innocence project, which wants new information about the police investigation conducted 20 years ago. they claim that new evidence could support peterson's claim that he's innocent. now, at today's hearing, peterson will not be in the courtroom. he'll appear by way of zoom from prison in amador county with dozens of pro palestinian demonstrators were arrested after staging very disruptive protests all over the bay area in fremont. >> those protesters targeted the tesla factory, hoping to disrupt operations at the facility. as ktvu zac sos reports, at one point, police deployed pepper balls on the demonstrators, and this protest actually started out largely peaceful. >> protesters gathered earlier at the southern end of the tesla facility. they were trying to make their way down kato road, an access road to the main entrance of the tesla facility. and that is where the dynamic changed. fremont police were
4:03 am
there wearing tactical gear. they had created a blockade using a fence and as several demonstrators confronted the officers trying to pull down that fence, hoping to disrupt business at the plant, police responded with pepper balls. now, demonstrators quickly pulling back after being hit with those pepper balls. but the protests continuing for around another hour and a half without incident before that crowd finally dispersed the demonstration. one of several taking place in the bay area, others taking place nationwide, all part of a wider effort to disrupt the nation's global economy. and that included blockade on bridges roads used for that purpose. as for why tesla in particular, organizers pointing to elon musk's decision to invite israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu to the plant last year. >> the main reason was inviting netanyahu out here to tesla and what's going on with the war, and everybody should stop. this is the day for protesting. this
4:04 am
is a day that everybody should stop what they're doing and protest for palestine. now i should point out that, well, this was all going on. >> the protest did manage to cause a large temporary backup of supply trucks trying to enter the tesla plant along kato road. as for any arrests, i can tell you that we personally did not witness any, but we will be certainly checking in with police for any updates in fremont, zac sos ktvu fox two news. >> thank you zach. will that demonstration in fremont ended a day of disruptive protests across the bay area. the chp says seven arrests were made at the demonstration that forced interstate 80 in oakland to be closed for several hours. you saw it unfold live right here on mornings on two. it started at 615, just as the morning commute was starting. chp officers in riot gear rushed to the scene as pro-palestine demonstrators blocked the freeway. >> well, there's a genocide going on halfway across the world and people have to be

informed about it. whether it's going to work, whether it's on social media. people need to stay informed of what's going on. babies are dying. >> the chp says several of the protesters chained themselves to drums filled with concrete, making it difficult to remove them from the road. the all lanes of northbound 880 finally reopened, but at 115 in the afternoon, protesters also blocked the southbound lanes of 880 at seventh street in oakland. that demonstration began shortly after 8 a.m. and caused a huge traffic jam for the next four hours. it also disrupted operations at the port of oakland. the chp says officers made five arrests at that location, and pam. >> the golden gate bridge was also targeted by the protesters, who chained themselves together, threw several cars, causing traffic to shut down in both directions of highway 101 for more than four hours. as ktvu is, amber lee tells us, more than two dozen demonstrators may soon face charges of felony.
4:06 am

4:07 am

5:15 am
national level. when you look at pockets of the population, it's much lower. so again, you need 95% to get herd immunity. it's dropping, dropping, dropping. school age kids are not getting vaccinated. parents are choosing not to go with the mmr vaccine. and that's the problem. so the cdc does recommend a shot at one year old and then also a follow up shot. it's a two parter for the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine. another one at four years old. and then i asked the doctor, what about the rest of us? and here's what he had to say. >> it's a live vaccine, so you tend to get lifelong immunity. that being said, we can test for the antibody level to know whether a person is immune. so if somebody is in a high risk situation, they can get tested. and if they're don't have enough antibody, they can get vaccinated. >> so if you were born before 1957, you likely were exposed to the measles naturally. so you're fine because you have that natural immunity. the rest of us likely got the shot when we were

little, and so we're fine. and if you're worried, if you're in a around people and you're feeling like there's a lot of cases around you, you can get your blood tested for the antibodies and you can test your immunity, and then they can give you a booster. if it's needed. remember, it spreads through the air through respiratory droplets . so coughing, sneezing that sort of thing. and it can take 10 to 14 days for those symptoms to show up. you're talking cough fever, maybe a skin rash. >> now, dina, let's go back to the school. the school age vaccine they're dropping is it not one of the vaccines that's required in public and private schools at this point? >> well, it is, but there are many, you know, families are able to opt out for various reasons. and that's what we're seeing happening is that and i asked the doctor why is this happening now? and there's been, you know, vaccines have been under fire for many different reasons over decades, but in particular, coming out of covid where people got confused and overwhelmed by all the vaccine

talk. and that perhaps has led to a new level of cynicism when it comes to vaccines. and that's concerning doctors, because this measles, it can be pretty serious. it's nothing that you want to mess around. no real treatment for it, by the way. so once you get it, you just got to let it run its course for the most part. >> and it can be dangerous for babies and women who are pregnant, right? >> yeah, it can be. it's a, you know, it's a respiratory virus without having a treatment for it. it can spread pretty quickly. and it can it can land people in the hospital. it can send babies to the hospital. pregnant women who are not vaccinated can also be in some pretty serious trouble. so it's something that you don't want to mess around with. and that's why the vaccine was at one point super effective in protecting us all from the measles. all right. >> hopefully we can get back there. talk to your doctor if you have any concerns about the vaccine, doctor. but yes, dina centofante with our fox medical team. thank you for that.
