in the bay area, remembering those who have died during the war between israel and hamas and those who remain in captivity. today, marking exactly six months since the fighting began. >> israeli and international citizens or hostages. and there are 9000 palestinians who are being held in military detention, we want to see all of those people released. >> officials on both sides of the conflict reporting the death toll in the tens of thousands. good evening, everyone. >> i'm mike mibach, and i'm heather holmes. as people mourn the tremendous loss of life near associations to try to reach a cease fire at hostage deal continue in cairo. meantime, the israeli military says it is now withdrawn. its ground forces from khan younis in southern gaza. jordan says it has also sent what it is describing as

its largest humanitarian aid convoy to the gaza strip since the war began. now a statement by the hashemite charity organization says that 105 trucks carrying food, including rice and flour, are now on their way to gaza, will arrive there later this week as aid pours into the region. survivors of the conflict are describing their experiences. one israeli woman shares what happened to her back on october 7th. >> zakariyah ruben, nadav, my husband, they shot him at point blank range in the chest. >> there were 2 or 3 gunshot wounds. i remember he was lying on the floor like that quietly. i remember him with his legs folded and lying quietly with straight away. there were five terrorists inside the mohammad. the safe rooms with weapons, opening the closet there and telling us to get dressed. >> now the woman you just heard from says that she was taken to gaza and released after seven weeks of being held hostage. this evening in the south bay, a

group gathered to show its support for the children who have suffered. ktvu south bay reporter lamonica peters live for us now in palo alto, where dozens of people gathered for a vigil, lamonica. >> heather, one of the organizers, told me that they meet here each sunday to bring more attention to what's happening in gaza. they say the death and the humanity in crisis must come to an end. we demand a ceasefire. >> we demand a cease fire at the corner of town and country village in palo alto. >> dozens of people gathered to show support for an immediate cease fire in gaza. the gaza health ministry says women and children make up two thirds of those killed. >> we're talking about an extraordinary number of orphaned children, children who've lost their entire families, children who are now caretaker for their younger siblings. it's just really i'm a mother of four children. it's incomprehensible to me. free palestine. >> the group calls its weekly

event vigil for the children of gaza. they say they've been meeting at this corner each sunday for months, trying to bring awareness to the suffering. the u.n. recently concluded that starvation in gaza is imminent and israel may be committing war crimes. >> the pressure we're putting on government is actually working. this is the only reason they're turning now, not out of compassion, not out of humanity, but because they're afraid we won't vote for them. >> in november, six months after the attacks, israel says more than 130 hostages are still being held by hamas. and the gaza health ministry says more than 33,000 palestinians have been killed, with no current deal or ceasefire agreement on the table, analysts say there's no end in sight to the fighting. >> when we called for a cease fire, we mean everybody should work to put down their arms and build towards a more peaceful coexistence. that's fair for both the palestinians and the

israelis. >> now, this group says they'll continue to gather here each sunday calling for a cease fire into the death and violence ends. heather. yeah >> and lamonica, there are reports that the cease fire talks there in cairo are making, quote, significant progress. we'll stay on top of that. thank you. in lafayette, a grassroots group held a community vigil to honor the estimated 130 hostages still being held in gaza. this was on the overpass along highway 24. signs reading bring them home and other posters were set up while people waved israeli flags. one bay area woman says that her brother and brother in law, yogev, is still being held. she tells us that she's scared for her safety. >> i just pray that he's still alive and i call on the international community to do whatever they can to bring a deal as soon as possible to release the hostages. >> organizers say they also want

to see the red cross work more to gain information on the health conditions of the hostages. >> relatives of the hostages being held by hamas took part in a march in washington, d.c. the hostages and missing families forum organized the event. demonstrators marched from the washington monument to the lincoln memorial there, demanding a cease fire and the release of all the hostages. hamas is reportedly holding 134 people captive. most of them israelis. the demonstrators says it is time to bring them home. >> our unified message, our takagi dollar, our demand to the terrorists, to hamas, release them now. today we send our people home. >> it is estimated that more than 30,000 palestinians have been killed in the israel-hamas war, and many of them children. as we've been reporting, state senator scott wiener of san francisco released a statement today on social media marking

the grim six month milestone and saying in part, quote, everyone is losing this war and the war needs to end. the hostages must be returned home. every single one of them, he says, including the bodies of those raped and killed by hamas while held hostage. hamas must be removed from power, wiener says. hamas must not be allowed to govern gaza. the world must also commit to rebuild gaza for gazans, and we must move toward an independent palestine. >> new at ten san mateo county sheriff's office transit police are now investigating a deadly collision in san carlos. caltns says around 1210 this morning, one of its cars struck th tracks. the victim died aton the scene. their identity ha not been confirmed by authorities. it is unclear at this time why the person was on the tracks. >> authorities searching tonight for the driver involved in a crash that killed a little girl. the rollover crash near concord also sent four people to the hospital. ktvu s bailey o'carroll has more now on the man being sought, according to chp and contra costa county, an

suv with six people in it traveling northbound on interstate 680 went off the road just after 5 a.m. on sunday and crashed into a median at the interstate 680 and highway 242 interchange. >> the suv flipped multiple times, causing the people inside to be ejected, and a nine year old girl was pronounced dead on scene, and four other women were taken to john muir hospital in walnut creek with serious injuries, according to chp. initial investigation. several people in the suv were not wearing a seatbelt. ktvu traveled to where the crash happened and noticed the guardrail was mangled. though the highway patrol would not say if that was because of today's crash. chp says the driver of the suv, a gray mazda cx nine, was a 30 year old hispanic male. he got out of the suv and walked away. investigators are looking for that driver, but so far have not released his name. his description, or what may have led to the accident. the investigation into this crash is still ongoing. chp is asking

anybody who may have information about the whereabouts about the driver, or anybody who may have seen anything to contact them in contra costa county. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news. >> an inmate at the santa clara county jail in san jose was found dead inside his cell. authorities say 27 year old man was found unresponsive for 15 yesterday morning. they say cpr was administered until medical personnel arrived on scene. he was pronounced dead about 25 minutes later. the sheriff's office says the inmate, whose name has not been released, was in his cell alone at the time of his death. and they also say there's no evidence at this time of foul play. the alameda county sheriff's office says it seized more than 2 pounds of fentanyl during a bust in oakland. authorities say in addition to those drugs, detectives discovered $14,000 in cash, along with drug manufacturing equipment. deputies say they executed search warrants on friday, leading them to the drugs and those arrests. >> well, at least one person was

injured in a string of sideshows that took place all across the bay area overnight as ktvu story gaines shows us one of those illegal events also brought traffic to a complete standstill right there on the bay bridge. >> it's a familiar sight for many people across the bay area, cars spinning at high speeds as onlookers cheer and try to avoid getting hit. sideshow swept across at least four cities saturday night, starting on the peninsula. here's what was captured on video. the string of incidents started around 11 p.m. in menlo park. dozens of spectators could be seen nearby as vehicles did donuts in the intersection next came the stanford area, where the sideshow lasted around 15 minutes at the corner of coyote hill road and page mill road, lasers can be seen aimed across the spinning cars as smoke billows up from the tires. mountain view was next up, where a group gathered at middlefield road and bernardo avenue. video shows several spectators leaping out of the way of cars, doing spins at high speed, highlighting how dangerous these

sideshows can be. police confirmed to ktvu that a 20 year old woman from pittsburgh suffered a broken ankle after being struck by a car. in that sideshow, two sideshows also took place in oakland, one on 42nd in international boulevard, not far from the spartan final. around 2 a.m, tons of fireworks could be seen popping off in that area. oakland police confirmed that at least 100 vehicles and dozens of spectators were at that sideshow. opd arrived on scene and dispersed the crowd, but police are still investigating. another sideshow sprang up near alma and excelsior around 3 a.m, but the big activity took place in the middle of the bay bridge around 3:15 a.m. video shows hundreds of people gathered on the bridge as vehicles spin in circles. the bridge was blocked for nearly 20 minutes by the crowds, bringing traffic to a dead stop. >> four people were detained and two of which were arrested and two of which were cited for aiding abetting in a sideshow. two of the people that were were

detained were determined to be juveniles. >> it's unclear at this time if the sideshows were made up of the same crowds, or if different groups showed up to each site. >> the evening or early morning hours, especially on a weekend, are can be make it difficult to respond as the officers are typically engaged in other enforcement activities. typically dui investigations or arrests. the ability to respond in a expedient manner obviously can be delayed when they do block all the lanes of traffic in oakland. >> tori gaines, ktvu, fox two news two boys from mountain view who were reported missing early yesterday have been found safe. >> the chp had issued an endangered missing advisory for nine year old daniel wu and four year old david wu, early yesterday morning, and officers say the two boys were with a woman, 38 year old taylor wu. the chp now says all three have been safely located but did not elaborate on where they were or the circumstances behind their

at the university of san francisco. the school plans to disband both the men's and women's tennis teams at the end of the season, all due to budget shortfalls. new. at ten tonight ktvu zac sos live now at the campus. there in san francisco. zach, how are students taking this move? >> i'd say the reaction is pretty mixed. some of the students, you know, pretty upset about this, while others really just calling it basically a sign of the times on campus as the university tries to cut costs, tighten its belt, the university, for its part, says it's been spending years trying to raise enough money to keep this program going and just never was able to raise enough. >> kind of sad. >> i just felt bad about it. it

made me kind of sad to hear about a team folding. >> university of san francisco students learning this weekend that their men's and women's tennis teams would be taking to the courts and golden gate park for the last time when the season wraps up. >> i know that the university is in a bit of a dire situation, so i know that they had to cut something, and a lot of folks knew about tennis, the university, describing its decision to discontinue both division one programs as among the difficult moves being made on campus to save money due to enrollment shortfalls. >> i absolutely do feel bad for the team. i mean, i, i can't say that i was too surprised because , i feel like a lot of programs have been getting cut and a lot of programs here don't have a lot of funding, especially like arts. >> i'm glad they didn't end up cutting a major, because i think that would have been more detrimental to more students and also incoming students. >> together, the men's and women's tennis programs costing the university more than $1 million to operate each year. >> i think there's probably

other things that they could have done to save money if they needed to save money, and i think cutting the tennis team was not the way to do it. >> in a statement, university athletic director larry williams saying in part, quote, personally, i'm very sorry that our players and coaches received this news. they did not expect their usf careers to be shortened in this way. we are doing everything we can to assist them as they chart their next steps and plan for their futures. the 16 players on both teams now being offered the opportunity to keep their scholarships and continue their studies at the university, or transfer out. >> i can only imagine how those players and their families feel, and then their tennis fans feel and. >> and as for the coaches, the university says they're working with them on next steps. i can tell you i reached out to one of the coaches via email and they say this whole thing, it's just completely blindsided them.

>> heather. yeah, some really tough decisions there on the campus all right. zac sos, thank you. convoys of vehicles resumed today in monterey county to help people stranded by that crumbling cliff side near big sur. the edge along highway one collapsed over easter weekend following heavy rains. at the time, caltrans closed about 40 miles of roads, stranding more than 1000 tourists and residents in the area. daily convoys were being allowed to help keep people get out of the area, but more rain over the last few days halted that process. well, today, the convoys resumed. meantime, crews are still working to try to shore up the roadway this weekend. they have been able to install k rail crash cushions and temporary striping there at the site. highway one in capitola is back open tonight after both directions were closed for the demolition of the capitola avenue bridge. caltrans used heavy equipment to take down the decades old structure. the roadway was closed last night at

7:00 and reopened ahead of schedule. this afternoon. a new overcrossing is expected to open next summer or fall. >> the rancho san antonio open space preserve in the south bay will be closed to the public tomorrow and tuesday, so the puma project can safely do some research. the group is with the university of santa cruz. this is the part uc santa cruz. this is part of a five year study to better understand factors that influence interactions between mountain lions and humans. with this research, the puma project wants to develop better management systems to help us safely coexist with the big cats. >> all right, a pretty nice day today. temperatures did warm about 4 or 5 degrees. that's the trend this week. temperatures increasing right into the week. that means temperatures as low or as high as 80 degrees as we get into the middle end of the week, maybe mid 80s in some spots possible. these were the highs from today. we've got a spring pattern that has taken hold. that's why we've got the pretty breezy conditions today. along the coast we had 25 mile an hour northwest winds, a very

spring like weather pattern and spring like without the rain. like last week was kind of spring like two. but this is warm, dry spring like it's going to hang on for a little while. so valley fog not an issue. coastal fog will return probably in a couple of days. winds are still 16 miles an hour at novato as 17 well, 17 sustained at sfo, so it's still pretty breezy. so tomorrow morning you wake up and it's going to be beautiful, glorious day. and it's going to be warmer by a solid 5 to 10 degrees. so we're going to see lots of low 70s tomorrow upper 60s low 70s and the winds the next couple of days. i'm just all illustrated with this is the onshore flow that's going to continue pretty much through the week. and that means classic spring weather with temperatures not above average, but about where they should be. as we get closer and we're in deep into spring now, we're not deep into it, but we're into it, and we're going to have some really nice weather to show for it. tree plants are going to start to become an issue as well within the sun comes out and warms up,

last month, 16 workers at the gilman street location voted to form fills coffee united. that, according to the daily californian. the union is now working for better pay and benefits, more staffing as well as consistent scheduling. the ceo philz coffee, says the company will work with the union moving forward. >> well, the national renegade craft tour wrapped up its stop today in san francisco. the traveling collective brings the works of small artists and businesses to several cities across the country for two day events. goods range from pottery to botanical health products and one of a kind prints. there were also coffee and bakery pop ups to keep attendees fed as they browse through all of the vendors at fort mason, renegade craft is expected to return to san francisco august 3rd and fourth. >> generation z appears to be leading a new trend in education from the fall of 2022 to the fall of last year, the number of students enrolled in vocational based community colleges increased 16, and the number of students studying construction rose 12. since the year 2021.

together, and it starts at about $10,000 for two passengers. the adults only ship sails to spain, france and italy. virgin first announced the pass last month and it quickly sold out. it's now added a second ship for the summer sale, a new study reveals. americans feel like they need a lot more money in order to retire comfortably. a northwestern mutual planning and progress study revealed that many americans do not feel comfortable enough to retire unless they have a record $1.46 million saved up now, according to the study. that figure is up 15% from last year's 1.27 million. and it is a huge leap from 2020, when the figure when the ideal figure was sitting at about $951,000. now, baby boomers, gen xers, millennials and gen zers all have wide gaps in what they need and what they've saved. gen zers had the largest gap at about $1.61

filed here in los angeles. attorneys representing former yacht stewardess grace omaki say she was sexually assaulted on board a yacht when she was 25 years old in december of 2022 by diddy's son, rapper christian combs. they say his dad, sean combs, leased the yacht and had full control of its staff and the premises. hautamaki's lawyers say combs turned what was sold as a wholesome family excursion into a hedonistic environment. they stated, quote, defendant sean combs fostered and encouraged an environment of debauchery. there was always a party atmosphere filled with suspected sex workers, suspected laced alcohol, violence and sheer disrespect of women and the yacht's crew. the lawsuit also contains photos of bruises that hautamaki's lawyers say she suffered when christian combs violently grabbed her and attempted to force her to perform a sex act. they also included a transcript of an audio recording, which they say captures omaki being forced to consume suspected laced shots of tequila. a lawyer representing both diddy and his son christian said in part, quote, we have not
