6:08 pm
sometimes even with their bodies from the israeli air force strikes. we talked about this absurdity. we talked about this absurdity several times. and they also made sure to point it out, like, we protect you from the air force attack. that is the word absurdity. >> the reason hamas wanted to keep these hostages safe is to exchange them as part of a larger ceasefire deal for palestinian prisoners in tel aviv. trey yingst, fox news. >> and in lafayette today, a grassroots group held a community vigil to honor the estimated 130 hostages still being held in gaza. this was on the overpass along highway 24. signs reading bring them home, and other posters were set up, while other waved israeli flags. >> news being what it is, you know, people focus on what happened last night and this morning and right now and i get it. and so if we're not up here shedding light, if we're not up here as a community, reminding people we feel like they will be

solar eclipse. >> it's incredible. it's everything people say it is, it's just an entirely different experience. >> this is the path of totality, starting in texas and cutting northeast across the country. if you're not in that zone, it will still be worth seeing. it just won't be a total eclipse. people traveling far and wide to the cities and towns expected to get the best view, but fueling some concern for those who came all this way is the potential for clouds in the forecast. one person we talked to in cleveland says he booked a last minute airbnb in quebec, just in case conditions aren't ideal, i want to experience it unobstructed as much as possible. >> i already drove about 10.5 hours just to get here, and i'm willing to drive another 9.5 hours just to see a more certain, clear version. >> others say they're excited, no matter what the weather has in store. >> i still see like it turned dark. i think. so i think it'll still be cool regardless when the moon completely blocks out the sun, it essentially looks like it turns night for a bit,

more than $50 million. the money raised is expected to be split among various republican organizations, including the save america pac, which helps pay for trump's legal bills. last night's fundraiser is more than double what president biden raised at a recent event in new york city. however, trump is still trailing president biden when it comes to raising campaign money. the biden campaign says it took in more than $90 million in contributions last month alone, the democratic national committee and biden's reelection campaign said yesterday it ended the first quarter of the year with more than $192 million in cash. the biden campaign says 96% of donations were less than $200. a powerball ticket sold in the state of oregon is worth more than $1.3 billion. a single ticket sold in portland matched all six numbers, ending a powerball winless streak that began three months ago. the winner does have that option to take a cash value of a $620 million dollars lump sum, or the

county. the tribal eco restoration alliance says it's going to conduct a cultural burn in the community of lower lake, just south of clear lake. the alliance says this will reduce fuel loading, making the community more resilient during wildfires and improve the health of the land and plants. the burn will be done in conjunction with cal fire. it is expected to begin 8:00 tomorrow morning and finish in the late afternoon. >> and we've turned a big corner in terms of the weather. you know, we had a little bit of rain all last week, kind of cooler on and off, snow in the mountains, snow on our bay area peaks. and of course, last couple of days things have mellowed out today, a little bit warmer, five degrees warmer than yesterday, and for 4 or 5 degrees warmer than yesterday. and then by tomorrow we're going to be popping into the low 70s. kind of nice. so the next couple of days it's springtime and i don't really see anything off on the horizon that's going to create wet weather for us. this is the time of year, of course, where anything can happen. but right now, the models i'll show them to you are pretty, pretty,
6:22 pm
pretty certain that we're going to be dry certainly through this week. the live camera shot you're looking down towards, it looks like south san francisco out towards the out towards well you can see san jose. you can see the vollmer peak off in the distance there, which is amazing visibility and i guess that was my next point was when you get good winds like we have, the winds really clean out the atmosphere. we've got a spring pattern that has developed, which is, well, it's spring, so okay, it makes sense. and we got it west northwesterly wind 20 miles an hour gusting in novato, oakland gusting to almost 30 miles an hour. so this northwesterly wind is with us all week for the most part. here's the model. this is tomorrow afternoon. you kind of just got the arrows in. you can see along the coast where you'd expect the strongest winds. that's where they'll be. right along the coastal hills. so this is spring. and the same thing happens on tuesday. not quite as robust, but you get that afternoon sea breeze. so an indication that we are back into a kind of a spring pattern. how long it sticks around it can change quickly, but as long as how long it sticks around, you never know. but right now this
6:23 pm
week looks dry. there's a weather system to the north. the days get longer, gets warmer down here. the jet stream starts to recede to the north. that's the jet stream. this line right there, kind of the jet stream. always cold air to the north, warmer air to the south. so when it gets warm down here, summer starts to go up here. and when it goes up here, there's nowhere for it to bring. no way it can bring easily bring storms to us. so when that jet stream goes up, days get shorter. in the winter. jet stream comes down. that's why temperatures drop and that's why rainfall drops and snow all through november, december and january. so as we go in tonight, we got temperatures are kind of chilly. not as chilly as last night, but still pretty chilly. we'll see numbers most likely in the upper 30s in the coolest spots, maybe mid 30s. i'll get you a little bit of frost and then the rest of us in the low 40s. so the model does this tomorrow morning. tomorrow afternoon. here goes tuesday. nothing changes tuesday morning tuesday afternoon. little coastal fog shows up on wednesday morning, which makes sense. and the forecast highs

for tomorrow. there they are warmer into the low 70s. the five day forecast i think you're going to like that. it looks nice and dry. and hay fever pollen tree pollens will become more noticeable certainly by wednesday thursday this week. >> all right bill thank you. shake shack today announcing it's giving away free chicken sandwiches. well kind of knocking chick fil a's policy of closing on sunday. shake shack says it will be giving out free fried chicken sandwiches every sunday this month. customers must pay place a $10 minimum order before entering the promo code check in sunday. all right. south carolina's women's basketball team on top of the world yet again. jason appelbaum has that story coming up next in sports. and coming up tonight on the 10:00 news. it's been six months since hamas's attack on israel. how bay area residents tonight are remembering the ve lost
