presence from law enforcement in the neighborhood. >> the 11:00 news on ktvu, fox two starts now. >> police say it happened near mission and 20th. that's where they found the shooting victim shortly before he died. hello again. i'm greg lee and i'm cristina rendon. >> so far, no arrests have been reported. new tonight, ktvu amber lee spoke with neighbors who say this incident should send a message to the city. >> a resident cleans up the debris outside a residential hotel in san francisco's mission district. shattered glass left from a shooting around 140 friday afternoon that left one man dead. >> we hear that that chop bomb. then we come out, neighbor jason flores tells me he heard a single gunshot. >> witnesses say the victim was shot outside the barbershop and that he stumbled back inside, collapsed and died. neighbors described the victim as being in his 20s and that he was from venezuela. they say it was the victim's first day at work in the barbershop. >> it's terrible, though,

because, you know, if the guy when he shoot the bullet can go straight right there, flores says. >> fortunately, no one else was injured. this is a busy area mission street between 19th and 20th streets. witnesses say the suspect fled the scene in a white suv that was parked steps from the shooting. >> when i came, they was hit a lot of police over there and like, see the they closed the street. >> abel padilla is the owner of la playa seafood, a restaurant a few doors down from the shooting. padilla grew up in this neighborhood and opened the business just two months ago. >> this is the first time i hear that happens out here. so to me, you're safe. >> still, business owners say they'd like to see police do foot patrols in the area. it's terrible. >> i never see something like that close to me. >> police have not said if the victim and suspect knew each other or what the motive was. investigators have not released a description of the suspect or the getaway vehicle in san francisco. amber lee, ktvu, fox

two news in vallejo, a woman was attacked while waiting at a stoplight in her car. >> no, no, it happened at the intersection of tennessee and sonoma. the thief broke through one of the victim's car windows and tried to steal items inside. the victim tells ktvu she held on to several of her belongings and ran the light to escape. she says, quote, it was such a moment of panic, but i'm so grateful my fight or flight mode took over and led me to safety. no arrests have been made. >> oakland police are searching for a car theft subjecthat led them suspect, excuse me? that led them on a high speechase today. a victim called police reporting their car was stolen on international boulevard just before 245 this afternoon. this was between 70th and 71st avenues when they got to the area, officers found the car with someone inside. the suspect failed to stop for officers and drove off, crashing into several vehicles, including a police car, before they were able to get away. >> and just after that chase, a

shooting during rush hour traffic in berkeley. it happened near the ashby avenue on ramp to eastbound interstate 80. the chp says someone in a vehicle shot someone in another car, causing them to crash. that victim is now in the hospital. ktvu zac sos spoke with drivers who are feeling on edge after this latest shooting. >> for hours friday, investigators criss crossing an onramp to i-80 in berkeley looking for evidence after a reported freeway shooting. chp officers first called to the eastbound ramp at ashby avenue at around 5 p.m. a 911 caller saying the driver in their car had been shot by someone in another vehicle. the victim's car, a silver toyota camry, then slamming into a barrier. >> there was clearly significant damage to the victim vehicle as well from the crash. so, you know, we are still waiting to hear exactly what injuries were sustained by the victim between the shooting as well as the crash, officers quickly shutting

down the ramp and diverting drivers. >> yeah, it makes me worried. i guess like shock. i wasn't expecting to hear something like this. >> you worry for your safety and your family too. >> the victim rushed to a nearby hospital next to the badly damaged toyota, a woman believed to have been inside the car at the time being interviewed by police officers. locating at least one bullet casing at the split to the ramp. >> we're continuing to ask at this time that you know anybody who might have seen anything, please call us. you know, it's interstate 80 at 5:00 on a friday. we know there's a lot of vehicles out there. there's a lot of people either, you know, leaving to go home for the weekend or maybe on their way out of town for the weekend. so we're hoping that anybody that was nearby at that time picks up the phone and calls us. >> it marks the second freeway shooting in two weeks. last wednesday, a dash cam capturing the moment a driver on 880 was shot at during an apparent road rage incident in union city, the driver only suffering minor injuries, and the shooter later

on the team and i think a huge potential for this team to deliver this year. >> with today's win, the giants are now three and five to start the season. >> new at 11 china basin park across from oracle park, held a soft opening for the public today. the five acre park features a bay trail for pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy the waterfront. the willie mccovey statue that honors the giants legend is also at the site near its original location. the park is part of the planned mission rock neighborhood. it also features green lawns and a new dog park, also new at 11. a bus crash is now under investigation in oakland. around six tonight, oakland police were called to a crash near third and international. their officers learned a toyota prius, failed to stop at a stop sign and hit an ac transit bus that was halfway into the intersection. detectives say 36 passengers were on the bus, six of them were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. police detained. the driver of the prius for questioning is unknown. if that driver was under the influence in the east bay, caltrans is

closing the webster tube later this month for maintenance work. the closure is overnight only, starting at 10:00 at night on april 17th until 430 the following morning. the webster tube connects the cities of alameda and oakland. signs will be in place to direct drivers. the posey tube will remain open. >> another blunder for united airlines. one of its planes clipped the plane or clipped the wing of another plane, a spokesperson says. united airlines flight 2181 was parking at an unspecified gate when its winglet made contact with the wing of another united aircraft that was already parked. it happened last night at 1030 at sfo. no one was hurt and passengers deplaned as normal. >> congressman mark desaulnier spoke with us at 4:00 about efforts in congress to address safety issues in the skies. today, we learned that boeing has paid alaska airlines $160 million over the plug blowout over portland back in january. the payment covered alaska's pretax loss related to the incident. the congressman says

the new faa administrator is doing a good job increasing oversight of the manufacturer. >> they did a thorough review of boeing, and it's quite scathing about their safety culture. lots of stupid mistakes, like the one on the alaska flight where they forgot to put the bolts in. this is completely unacceptable. >> industry sources told reuters that output is boeing has fallen as us regulators have stepped up factory inspections of the manufacturer near seattle. >> sad because i mean, 99 cent is being, you know, providing and helping for all of us through years coming up in west coast rap, longtime shoppers stocking up before $0.99 only stores close their doors for good, and the a's are moving out. >> so who's moving in? discussions underway for the future of the coliseum, the latest on the efforts to revitalize the space and several fires burned through buildings this afternoon across the bay area. >> what investigators know about the cause of these incidents

sales. >> simple thing like this, you know, right here you get for $3, you go out of zone $11 and it's just life's getting harder and harder. i think it's really sad what's happening. >> for shoppers like this dad of two who buys and sells cars for a living in los feliz, the 99 cent store has been a godsend. we caught him unloading his grocery cart at the 99 cent store in silverlake friday, where he stocked up on supplies to clean cars at a bargain price . >> as long as you can save some money here and there, everything counts. pennies add up to a quarter. a quarter adds up to a dollar. so, you know you got to be careful. >> his cleaning supplies were 30% off, but the reason they were discounted was devastating. the discount store is permanently closing its doors at all 371 stores this thursday, the company, $0.99, only announced its closure, citing financial difficulties stemming from the pandemic, changing consumer demand and rising

inflation. the interim ceo said, quote, this was an extremely difficult decision and is not the outcome we expected or hoped to achieve at the silverlake location friday. the parking lot was jammed. the 99 cent store is famous for reasonable prices on groceries, cleaning supplies and snacks, beans and, just things that they don't expire that soon. >> and, it was like almost $40. not much, but for working class shoppers on a razor thin budget here, they could stretch a budget like single mom of four. >> elizabeth sad, because i mean, 99 cent is being, you know, providing and helping for all of us through years. >> you know, anything that we need, we just come here and shop and it's cheaper and, you know, it's a good deal. >> that was laura diaz reporting

. a second case of tuberculosis has been identified at las vegas area schools. southern nevada health district officials say they're working with the clark county school district to create a testing plan for anyone considered a close contact of those infected. the first tb case surfaced at an elementary school. the second occurred at barry and june gunderson middle school. both happened within the last week. health officials have not said whether the tb patients are students or staff. of those schools. tb is a bacterial infection that mainly affects the lungs. it spreads from one person to another in the air as an infected person coughs or speaks. patients with active symptoms will require a long course of treatment involving antibiotics. if left untreated, it could be fatal. after almost 30 years of being on the decline, cases of the infection were up about 16% last year. >> the final four begins tomorrow in the phoenix area, but fans were treated to several events starting tonight. this morning, the four teams held opening practices at state farm stadium in glendale, outside the

were called to the area of 30th and broadway around three this afternoon. their firefighters found a fire burning through a former cvs location. the oakland fire department says about 20 crew members were able to put out the flames within 15 minutes. investigators say it appears people had broken into the building and were illegally occupying it before the fire. no injuries reported here. the cause also unknown. first friday is coming back to oakland after a three month hiatus. what prevented it from making its long awaited return? >> this evening and later in our newscast, san francisco is celebrating its cannabis culture. how the city is embracing the plan. despite canceling its annual event on hippie hill. >> well, maybe you're going to be working out in your garden this weekend. one day features rain. one day does not. i'll talk about the rainy day to expect and where and how much your bay area forecast is on deck. next

is hale in san ramon, and we're all trying to figure out, okay, what size do you think this hale is? it's bigger than a pea. it's bigger than a dime. would you guys all agree? quarter size? yeah >> i think you nailed it. >> yeah, i'll take that. all right. thank you. vic, that came through the east bay about 4 to 5:00 this afternoon. that big cluster of activity. lots of thunder, lots of lightning. it began in the american canyon area, then swept on down into the tri valley. you could see all that activity, then making tracks towards the central valley. and i got to tell you, we had thunderstorms anywhere from patterson all the way to the grapevine. it was really impressive. now, in its wake, we have temperatures that have tumbled into the 40s. take a

look at that. 42 degrees in walnut creek. the winds are dying down. that's a good thing because these winds have been gusting up to 40mph as early as just an hour ago. now, at 22, in half moon bay. but once these winds subside, the numbers go down. 30s in santa rosa, 30s in napa, vallejo, concord, fairfield and in throughout the tri valley, which means we have a frost advisory in effect for the east bay, also for the north bay until 9:00 tomorrow morning, and for mendocino county, you have a freeze warning, in effect, cold air. look at the cotton ball effect here. that's when you know there's a lot of cold air aloft that is filtering into the bay area with the passage of this system here tomorrow morning, sun up is at 646, and we're going to see it clear skies. but during the day we've got that increasing cloud cover will lead to a scattered light rain shower in the north bay and the overnight hours from saturday night to sunday. same thing during the day. no

accumulations expected. so the bottom line is tomorrow's highs still coolish 50s and low 60s. extended forecast mainly dry on your sunday and for the partial eclipse on monday. we're talking sunny skies forward to next week. >> roberta. thank you. as the oakland a's prepare to leave for sacramento next season, talk is already turning to the future of the oakland coliseum. ktvu jana katsuyama explains new concerns raised today by the oakland roots soccer team, who hope to play at the site as the oakland a's prepare to walk away from the oakland coliseum. >> the athletics owner, john fisher, still has a 50% stake in the property acquired from alameda county, with the city of oakland controlling the other half. the city has openly supported a proposed development of the 120 acre sports complex, with added retail and housing by the locally led african american sports and entertainment group. >> and we just feel like there's a great opportunity here at this site to revitalize and to sort of restart, start a new chapter

and a new generation for oakland and for the coliseum site. >> ray bobbitt is the group's founding partner, who says that the a's departure next season could help speed up any planning or application processes. >> i think we can move quicker to those kind of spots, with with respect to this timeline sort of being moved up so that is helpful. >> the group already has agreements to work with the city and bring the oakland roots and soul soccer teams into the coliseum site, but on friday, the roots posted a warning to their fans in the community expressing alarm about their own future at the coliseum. in a letter to the alameda county board of supervisors, the team said the county indicated it might sell the malibu parking lot property without granting the roots a ten year lease to build a pop up soccer stadium at the site. the letter also warned that the alameda county's board appears prepared to pivot on a deal that would give the roots use of a training facility on harbor bay parkway ahead of the 2026 world cup games, and the letter raised a third concern, saying the county and coliseum

ktvu tory gain shows us, the cannabis community has another idea in mind. >> san francisco weed week kicks off on april 13th. it's meant to be a celebration of cannabis culture and the incredibly rich history that cannabis has here in san francisco. >> i love the fact that cannabis is so unifying. it traverses all demographics, all races, ages, creeds. so we're going to keep centering the unity, and we're going to build together the event highlights seven dispensaries and seven strains throughout the week. >> a gallery was also built to display the history of flower. mayor london breed says cannabis is expected to bring $789 million into our economy between 2024 and 2025. that boost is thanks in part to the 52 business licenses and $11 million provided to new owners as part of the city's equity programs. ali jamal was arrested for distributing cannabis when he was in college. he dropped out to handle the case. today, he is a recipient of an equity grant from the city. >> i was actually the one that
