many fans say they'll keep protesting this season outside of home games at the coliseum, as they hope that oakland city leaders will bring a major league expansion team to oakland. well many jobs will also be lost as the a's leave oakland and the bay area. >> there are going to be some reductions in our in our staffing. you know, that's just it's part of the situation. it's a sad thing. and, you know, i we have a great group of people with the a's and they've done a great job in putting a great product out there. but that is something that comes with this. >> now, a's president dave kaval also said those employees will be getting severance packages and also help with finding new jobs. but the union that represents hundreds of food and beverage workers at the coliseum accused the a's of abandoning its staff and many have worked at the coliseum for more than 20 years. in a statement, unite here local two said in part, quote, the majority are african american. these workers have made thousands of game days

mornings on two and coming up on the nine, we'll have live interviews and weather from oracle park. be sure to check back this afternoon as well for highlights and the reaction from fans, as expectations are pretty high this season for the now retooled san francisco giants. time is now 408. the warriors are going for their seventh straight victory tomorrow night in dallas. last night, the warriors were in houston playing against the team closest to them for that final play in spot. the warriors controlled the game from the beginning. steph curry, klay thompson hot. they scored 29 points each and the warriors won 133 to 110. and after the game steph curry talked about the urgency the team has played with as the regular season winds down. >> for us to be in this situation where we have an opportunity, to keep hope alive and, you know, see what happens

in a couple of weeks to try to get into a playoff series. like it's because we dug deep and, you know this, it matters to us the second half. >> yeah. with six games left in the season, the warriors currently have the 10th seed in the western conference. that would put them in the play in game for the playoffs. now they're four games ahead of houston with six games left. way to go. all right. our time is 409. let's go back to steve paulson i know you want to know what the weather is going to be like today. after everything we saw yesterday so do i. yeah. oh yeah. yeah. well that's why i'm here dave. >> thank you sir. all right. we'll take a look at the baseball forecast here. i think we're all right here. but you know, just to cia, to just keep an eye on things here. sun clouds, 56. there could be some. you know, i think most of it will be inland as far as any rain goes. but it's close. mostly cloudy. this morning. a lot of low clouds leftover. still some light activity, but most of the activity has ended
4:11 am
to the north. you can see the low churning out there by lodi and stockton, but you know this will the activity will pick up later. there's plenty offshore. it would not take much to see this swing inland. that's a nice bass map. 30s on the temps. oakland and vallejo at 38. don't see that all the time, which are cooler than anyone else around here on this panel. snow up in the mountains that will continue most of the day. winter weather advisory goes again throughout today. look at all that activity. the cold air over the relatively cold water. but boy, that's, you know, one of those swings inland. that's all it would take to put a damper on your parade. so but there's not a lot being forecast here. just a couple one hundredths. but an isolated thunderstorm could easily drop another maybe quarter of an inch or some hail as the low starts to track a little bit more to the south. so sun, clouds, more scattered showers today, 50s on the temps. >> all right, steve, thank you. well, a promise made to unite the san francisco community. another candidate is joining the crowded field, hoping to become the mayor of san francisco.

in an attic just after 8:00. it happened at the el portal gardens apartment on san pablo avenue. about 50 of the residents there had to be evacuated. the fire was contained quickly. no one was hurt. the cause of the fire is under investigation. all right. it's 438. it's friday morning. steve paulson is on top of your weather for a friday. >> dave, how is your weather yesterday, man, it was wet. >> it was gusty, just like you said. >> well, the areas in i think contra costa county were the leaders of the pack. we'll show you that coming up in about 15 minutes or so. but i think those were the heaviest totals. i think we're good today. anything that develops, just keep an eye on things here. this is a broad brush forecast. it's almost impossible to forecast. precisely. i think more activity will happen inland than over the coast, but i think they'll be fine. sun clouds, maybe a shower, scoot through it. but we're on the drier side as the lowest moving off towards the east here, but it would not take much for something to pop up
4:40 am
here. but pretty quiet here this morning. this system though really was a big deal for some to the east bay and some towards the santa cruz mountains as well. more so than areas to the north. a few 30 showing up here. i mean upper 30s, low 40s. quite cool for us. cold as temps though will be on saturday morning. plenty of 30s to the north. cloverdale, healdsburg in there, sebastopol, rohnert park, fairfax, san anselmo, sonoma, middletown, konocti, upper lake, all in the 30s here. snow will be on the go here throughout the day for the mountains, so they'll pick up more. you can see all the activity offshore would not take much for one of those bands to swing inland. so that's why have to keep some scattered shower activity in the forecast. but the low is on its way out. the high will start to build in, but really it will take until we get to about sunday. monday. not a lot, but you can see fairfield, concord, fremont, livermore, morgan hill with more than areas to the west. and i'll buy that because we'll get some pretty good buildups here in the afternoon. the atmosphere will be destabilize later, but the ridge is beginning to show itself, and it'll start to build in tomorrow
4:41 am
morning, though it's kind of the critical morning, i don't think it'll get too bad, but santa rosa forecast is 34, napa 35, antioch 37. even down to gilroy at 34. so after that, though, sunday does look a little bit better. highs will start to bump up and by the time we get to monday, spring will return and temperatures will start to come back here. so partly cloudy in the morning. chilly to cold. still some light rain. there will be some more sun breaks today, but more clouds possible. thundershower bubbling up in the afternoon 50s though still well below average on the highs. >> all right team steve thank you. time is 440. well today is the home opener for the san francisco giants. we'll give you a preview of what you fans can expect to see. and only ten days left until the tax filing deadline. we'll tell you about the science that looks at why some people procrastinate when it comes to getting the taxes done

to continue just doing things as is now. >> the protests ended peacefully. organizers said there were no arrests. in a statement, lockheed martin told ktvu, quote, we respect the right to peaceful protest and we're honored to partner with the u.s. military and our international partners to deliver strategic deterrence and security solutions as well. new this morning, the israeli military just fired two officers for their roles in the drone strikes in gaza that killed seven aid workers. the israeli military says an investigation into that incident found that the officers mishandled critical information and violated the israeli army's rules of engagement. the seven workers were there, with world central kitchen delivering food to gaza's population. israel also says it will reopen a border crossing to allow more humanitarian aid into gaza. if that came after president biden spoke directly with israeli prime minister netanyahu,

over with. yeah. to take two hours on a sunday, get it over with, file it. you're done. bite the bullet. just get it over with. don't procrastinate because you're always thinking about it. all right, our baseball forecast, i think we're i think we're pretty good here today. the key, though, is because of the nature of this system. you just have to cover yourself here. but i think sun clouds, it'll be all right. could be a little breezy, cool. but you know, again, if there's a scattered shower that passes through, it'll just do that. it'll go pretty fast. most of this looks to favor inland areas, but there's so much offshore that it would not take much rainfall. boy i'll tell you a lot of i'll have to say mainly east bay thunderstorms. these are the leaders of the dublin. over an inch of rain. hayward 95 100. danville 87, castro valley 86. orinda and livermore, both with 84. 100, i should add. brentwood also had really good rain at 8/10. berkeley also had 8/10 to the north. some clearing is taking place. i think we'll get some sun breaks here for a while. then we'll start to see the atmosphere bubble up and we'll get some activity later in
4:53 am
the day, but it tends to favor areas. napa county, solano contra costa santa clara more so than areas to the west, but you can see how close it is. it would not take much for one of those to zip on by. is it cold up in the mountains? you're darn tootin it is. look at mount diablo 28 degrees. my goodness, with a west wind at 15mph. 28 for april 5th. it's hard to believe. 30s for a few. a lot of low 40s. 41 is popular. san rafael is in there. napa airport, walnut creek, fremont, hayward, san carlos, all in there. 39 orinda panels in there, kensington, 39, clayton 39. danville is in there. castro valley 38, north dublin 37. still some snow up in the mountains. that will continue, probably throughout the day as the low kind of favors areas now east more so than us. but once that low kicks out, the high is going to start building in slowly. it'll make more of an impact. so we go to next week. you can see fairfield, concord, fremont, livermore more so than areas to the west. and i'll buy into that a little bit more snow today a couple inches maybe. and then after that it looks good to go, especially for most of the
4:54 am
weekend. snow forecast looks all right but our low is give it credit. pretty impressive for this time of year. but that ridge of high pressure is on its way. april chill but more sun. so some sun breaks. but then we'll get some more afternoon activity today. >> dave okay steve. thank you. time is 453. it's the first round of post pandemic layoffs at apple. the reason apple based here in the bay area, has decided to reduce its workforce and a tragic accident during a safari that left an american tourist dead. you tell you the latest in what we're finding out about this elephant attack that happened during the safari

thing going on. i didn't hear where. >> yeah it was in san francisco. steve. southbound 101 near cesar chavez. that's been cleared, fortunately. and things are wide open for you. we're talking about the home opener. the bay bridge may get some service today. today, because people going into san francisco still the best way, in my humble opinion, to getting to the park is public transportation. because parking can be very pricey near the stadium right now. there's no traffic reported there. it's probably not going to start until about 10 or 11 in the morning, right in front of the coliseum here, interstate 80 looks good and the rest of the bay area commute is off to a good start. it's 501. let's get back to the headlines. >> thank you. sal, the countdown is on to the first pitch at giants opening day to day. ktvu bailey o'carroll is live at oracle park this morning. bailey, you spoke to some special giants fans ahead of the game and i see you are on the field ready to go. >> ali yeah, good morning. we are on the field. excitement is

building. of course. rain kind of the story here. first that i want to touch on this morning. i'll move out of the way so you can see this tarp behind me. you can see just how much water is on it, thankfully, it is no longer raining, for the sake of this game. also, for our sake standing out here. but they have the pressure washers going, so you might be able to hear that buzz kind of in the background, making sure the stadium is, all clean for those fans who will come out here today. but now to those fans that i spoke to, some of the biggest giants fans around, they also happen to be the grandmother of giants superstar logan webb. now, logan is not pitching today, but that does not mean that his two grandmas, jan and patty, who happen to be best friends and roommates, will not be watching this game. logan calls them actually the team grandmas. they're at every game that he pitches at and boy are they excited for this new season and all the new faces that love to
5:04 am
watch the pitching. >> and this year, the hitting. it's like we have a full team. yeah the teaching of the new pitchers that we have, it's been wonderful to watch that. and of course the hitting and you can even see the camaraderie amongst all of the players. it's just such a joy to see. everybody seems to be happy. >> now, they told me one of the things that logan helped to implement, throughout spring training is that because there's so many new players and so many new are obviously, of course, the new coaching staff, he says that everybody shakes hands in the morning when they get to the clubhouse. they say it's a small thing, but makes a pretty big difference when it just comes to guys feeling welcome in this clubhouse. again, with just so many new faces, not only players but the coaching staff as well, the grandma told me that this new coaching staff also makes every player take batting practice every day of course,
5:05 am
that they are healthy and able to do that and their goal for this season, the grandma's not the team. of course, to help cheer this giants team on to as many wins as possible. but also, patty has kind of an independent goal. if you will. she says her goal is to meet wilmer flores this season, and she said she keeps kind of nudging logan to help make that happen. so we will. i guess just have to wait and see if she is able to meet the one and only wilmer flores at oracle park. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right. thank you. bailey we will have special coverage of today's giants home opener all morning on mornings on two. coming up on the nine, we'll have live interviews and weather from oracle park. and be sure to check back this afternoon for highlights and reactions from fans as expectations are high this season for those retooled giants. >> all right, ali, time is 505. sacramento business owners and residents are already making plans to become the new home of the oakland a's. beginning next season, the a's will share
5:06 am
sutter health park with the sacramento river cats, the triple-a affiliate of the san francisco giants and the majority owner of the river cats, also owns the sacramento kings, the city's nba team. and he's really excited about the a's playing in his ballpark in west sacramento. >> so what an incredible day. this is epic. it's historic. >> we embrace you all of west sacramento is going to thrive because of your presence. >> now the smaller minor league ballpark in west sacramento may be a good fit for the a's last year, the a's averaged only 10,000 fans a game at the 63,000 seat oakland coliseum. >> a much more intimate setting for sure. i mean, i think it's about 14,000 people in the stadium there, and i imagine they'll probably fill it up for most of their games. >> revenue wise. it's going to be incredible. for us, that means that there's going to be games at the stadium probably every day of the week between
5:07 am
the river cats and the a's. >> now sacramento fans also hope the temporary move for the a's could mean the city could become home to a permanent major league baseball expansion team in the future. >> well, many longtime a's fans say they are not surprised the team is now officially playing its final season in oakland, but they're still angry and frustrated by the news. many heartbroken a's fans have been attending games at the coliseum since the team first moved to the bay area from kansas city back in 1968. >> my dad took me to games, i took my boys to games. now i'm taking my granddaughters. >> i think it's devastating, but it at least we have clarity and at least now we can look at what the future is going to hold. >> many a's fans say they will continue protesting outside home games at the oakland coliseum this season, despite the announcement, they're hoping city leaders will be successful in their efforts to bring another major league expansion team to oakland. >> all right. also, ali, many jobs are going to be lost as the
5:08 am
a's leave oakland and the bay area. there are going to be some reductions in our in our staffing. >> you know, that's just it's part of the situation. it's a sad thing. and you know, i we have a great group of people with the a's. and they've done a great job in putting a great product out there. but that is something that comes with this. >> a's president dave kaval, also said those employees will be getting severance packages and also will be helped to find new jobs. but the union that represents hundreds of food and beverage workers at the coliseum accused the a's of abandoning its staff, and many have worked at the coliseum for more than 20 years now. in a statement, unite here local two said in part, quote, the majority are african american. these workers have made thousands of game days enjoyable for countless fans. their union wages and benefits have supported the workers, families and communities, and their work has helped make john fisher even richer. the ktvu obviously, will be following

game in for the playoffs. >> they're now four games ahead of houston with six games left. 509 is the time. let's check in with steve paulson for a look at our weather. still a pretty dynamic today, i'd say. >> not as bad as yesterday, but yes, there will still be some activity today. then we'll start to see a decrease here, bailey was right. i know they have the tarp out there, but i think today will be much better than yesterday. the only thing is that you. you don't want these scattered showers to just zip on by, because there's a lot off the coast. but sun, clouds, they'll play. i think it'll be far better than yesterday as our system has swung inland. but there's just so much coming down the coast that you have to keep that in the forecast. there will be some pretty good activity later today, especially inland. double in hayward, danville, castro valley, orinda and livermore. look at that. 84 100 to over an inch. so those thunderstorms erupted. those areas, no doubt about it, had more rain than almost everyone else. boulder creek had 91 100 brentwood 8/10. the berkeley hills 8/10, morgan hill almost

in there. clayton and three quarters of an inch oakland 0.70, san francisco 0.54. and napa had 51/100. i try and get as many areas in as i can. stockton i don't usually show stockton, but that's a lot of rain for stockton in april. mount tamalpais almost three quarters. union city in there. redwood city 6/10 vallejo 6/10. evergreen san jose area almost 6/10 petaluma half inch and half moon bay picked up 44/100. it's darn cold up there in them there hills. mount diablo 28 degrees. my goodness. so some chill in the air here. a few a lot of 30s are showing up here overnight. petaluma is in there. santa rosa kelseyville vallejo. one observation in oakland is also in there. woodside, atherton, half moon bay. how about that? i'm wondering if that's a record for april. i mean, my goodness, still some snow up in the mountains that will continue off and on throughout the day today. no totals don't come in until about 8:00 or so, but the low will continue to churn out of the area as the high begins to build in. not a lot today and
5:12 am
some areas fairfield, concord, fremont, livermore a little bit more than areas by far to the west, which makes sense. we'll get what's called the diurnal effect today, which is an afternoon heating should build up 1 to 3, four, maybe inches of snow, but we had snow down to low elevations, that's for sure. and the system kicks out that high is going to build in. and next week, next week temps will really be bumping up here. the key will be saturday morning. i know some areas critical minimums. napa santa rosa 3534. gilroy 34. so that will be the coldest. sunday does look cold, but not nearly as cold. 30s, more upper 30s. and then after that we can say goodbye to cold lows as temperatures will begin to bump up. april chill, but more sun. partly cloudy, chilly to cold in the morning. some sun breaks, but we'll get some more activity later today. >> all right. thank you steve. well, another candidate is joining the crowded race to become the next san francisco mayor. supervisor aaron peskin sat down with ktvu to talk about why he's running and an historic tie for a congressional race in

a half inch to three quarters. boulder creek, brentwood had good rain. berkeley hills, morgan hill, clayton, oakland, san francisco, napa all between a half inch to almost an inch. the low is still hanging around, but see this right here? this is kind of the key just coming down right here. all that all it takes is one of those to go over us and that could do it. but i would think areas inland east bay in napa county, lake county, solano contra costa will be in the mix probably for today. some activity popping up 50s on the temps, improving weather next week. they'll look sunny and warmer. >> okay, steve. thank you. our time is 652. billionaire elon musk digging deeper into his bank account. we'll tell you why he's increasing the pay for some tesla employees, and we'll tell you about an east bay city getting creative in order to boost tourism. the prizes that include movie tickets when dining out in concord, plus.

for sal as he makes his way over to oracle park. but we have you covered on traffic south bay traffic is kind of the problem spot at this hour. there is a crash northbound 101 at trimble that's blocking one of the slow lanes. also, a crash on northbound 101 or excuse me, northbound 17 at idlewild. that is blocking all lanes right now. so if you're coming from the santa cruz area headed to the south bay, be aware of that. here's a live picture of 280 in san jose. a little bit slow in that northbound direction. highway 24 in lafayette. walnut creek area. getting busy as well, but no big problems there. and the bay bridge toll plaza is pretty light at this time. well, the countdown is on to the first pitch at giants opening day today. >> yeah, as the excitement is growing, ktvu bailey o'carroll is already down on the field at oracle park. bailey, good morning. >> good morning dave and ali. you can feel that excitement building ahead of this first pitch being thrown out. of course it is still hours away but we are down on the field. i want to give you a look at what
11:26 pm
this field looks like. of course it was dumping rain last night in the city. it did stop. we have not seen any rain this morning since we've been out here. i got out here just about a 4:00 this morning. so it is staying dry, which is, of course, good for the field. good for everybody out here. and you heard steve talking about how cold it is. i am wearing the largest winter coat i have. sal actually sent me a text right before we came on the air asking me just how cold it is out here. i can tell you it is very cold. hopefully as the sun comes up, it warms up a little. just a little bit would be a little, a little more comfortable. but so a couple people who are very excited for this game, of course, all giants fans are excited, but maybe two people who are more excited than the average fan is none other than star giants pitcher logan webb. we talked to his two grandmothers just about how they're feeling ahead of this season opener here at oracle park in san francisco. now jan and patty, they come to every
11:27 pm
game that logan pitches at. and i can tell you from experience talking to them, they are some of his biggest fans, some of his loudest fans, certainly in the crowd when they are here they are the two grandmas are best friends and roommates. logan calls them actually the team grandmas, and they told me that because of all the new faces on this team and of course the new coaching staff, that logan helped to implement something new in the clubhouse with the new players arrive, he wants them to shake hands and say good morning to everybody. >> it's sort of an icebreaker and i know that you know what it's like going into a group of people that are already established. and so it's kind of nice. it's an icebreaker and you're not walking on eggshells. yeah. >> the grandmas tell me that they're most excited for all of the new pitchers. they're also excited to watch the offense this year. they say that they expect it to be a little more high powered than last season.
11:28 pm
they say logan told them that this new coaching staff has each player take batting practice every day. so that's something that they are hoping maybe is a little bit of a stronger, kind of asset to this team than maybe in years past. and now we've moved down to the dugout, to show you the giants have put out some of their giveaways that they're going to be giving out this season. so we want to come down here to the dugout to show you some of these things. they have all these beanies that they're going to be giving away for some of the college nights. you see a usf, cal, san jose state, sf state and even a new addition this season is oregon, the oregon beanie. they're going to have a hello kitty night, a disney night where you can get this baseball hat. of course, with those famed mickey mouse ears. and then my favorite of this entire lineup. now, i can't say i'm the biggest star wars fan. i have not seen all the movies, but, i could certainly see myself rocking this hat, as
11:29 pm
i'm sure a lot of giants fans could also see themselves, killing it in that hat, if you will. but fans excited ahead of this opening day, home opener for this giants team. and of course, hoping that this team performs well all season long. reporting from oracle park. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news. >> it looks like fun. i would like to grab that hello kitty hat. bailey, thanks for showing us all that. we'll have special coverage of today's giants home opener all morning on mornings on two. coming up on the nine, we will have live interviews and weather from oracle park. be sure to check back this afternoon for highlights and reactions from fans, as expectations are high this season for the retooled giants. well, more than 600 workers received layoff notices from apple. its latest round of tech worker layoffs in the bay area. ktvu james torres here to tell us what we know about why apple is making the move and how we're learning about it. james. >> good morning. well, for practically the entirety of the
11:30 pm
pandemic, apple was able to avoid some of those large, massive layoffs. we saw that in the thousands for other tech giants. and while apple's numbers are much smaller than compared to the rest. tech experts say it's still a sign of the times and an insight into what it takes to run this kind of business. it's mostly spelled out in state records, according to california's employment development department or the edd. apple notified its employees of a layoff last week. the company filed a working adjustment and retraining notification, also known as a warned report, with the edd and those records show 614 total apple employees were told they are being let go from eight offices in santa clara county. the question is for those employees and the industry, what happens next? >> the one thing that i think a lot of people who watch the tech industry are trying to figure out is if this is the end of the layoffs, you know, there are hundreds of people who have been laid off from apple that's far smaller than the thousands upon
11:31 pm
thousands of people we saw laid off from google and facebook and whatnot. so it may be that this is actually a sign that maybe this is the end of the layoffs, but make no mistake, there are still hundreds of people who are now going to be searching for a job. >> experts suggest those employees were likely working on apple's self-driving car project, which had been dubbed project titan, within the company. apple scrapped those plans earlier this year after quietly working on it since 2014. apple also holds a reputation for usually making an effort to move people from failed projects to other departments. there are some reports suggesting that some of those laid off employees will work for the company's artificial intelligence, or its robotics unit, according to state records. those layoffs go into effect at the end of may. dave. >> okay, james. thank you. time now. 637 well, today, san francisco supervisor aaron peskin will file the paperwork to run for mayor of san francisco, joining a field of

fundraiser was organized in part by an e.r. doctor from los gatos. he just returned from a medical mission in the region where he treated patients in the middle of the war zone, some of the money raised will help send food to palestinians in that war zone. >> so i come here to support those people, especially in this month of ramadan, rain or shine, we're going to be fine. >> people are committed to coming out to this amazing event to support and show solidarity for the people of gaza. >> organizers say this will be
