in the woods of el dorado county, about 55 miles northeast of sacramento, collecting deer antlers. just after 1:00 saturday afternoon, old called 911 to report he and his brother had been attacked by a mountain lion. when deputies arrived, they found the 18 year old seriously injured and the body of his 21 year old brother. >> they located a man down and next to that individual was a mountain lion in a crouched position. >> the 21 year old was pronounced dead at the scene. his brother is expected to survive after undergoing surgery. >> i felt bad for the kids and the family. it's heartbreaking, but i mean, we do live in the woods up here where you got to be cautious for it in the hours after theúattack, state wildlife officials authorized a professional to catch the mountain lion. >> it was caught and euthanized. initialc dna tests confirmed the lion they captured was in fact the one tied to the deadly attack. necropsy results show the mountain lion was a 90 pound

due to a free college program. headcount was up 16% in fall of 2023 and up 8% in spring of 24. the free college program removes financial barriers by for eligible students and reducing or eliminating out-of-pocket student fees. the district is encouraging those thinking of pursuing a degree to take advantage of this opportunity and enrollment across california's 116 community colleges is seeing an increase. the college system in fall of 10 additional students compared to fall of 22. this brought the statewide enrollment total above 2 million for the first time since 2019. the system suffered deep enrollment cuts during the pandemic, but since last spring. statewide, chancellor
