on that office, but at the same time, it's a reflection of the rule of law working in america that the justice system his holding everyone to account support for the former president coming from all republicans, despite tense relationships, including former vp mike pence unprecedented indictment of a former president of the united states for a campaign finance issue is an outrage. others against the indictment include potential republican nominee challengers like florida governor ron de santis and former south carolina governor nikki haley. from everything i've seen from this new york district attorney is that this would be be something he'd be doing for political points. one political expert says the attention might actually be good for trump and difficult for his opponents who may struggle if he continues to dominate the headlines, but he's simply too far ahead now. for this to have an extraordinary negative impact on his candidacy. what i'm really looking at is how it

impacts 2024. i think this is good news for democrats. you know, trump's the only candidate they know for sure they can beat the nypd today operating with all hands on deck, anticipating protests in manhattan, the former president is expected to turn himself in tuesday, where he'll be fingerprinted and have his mug shot taken will then learn what charges he faces. after his first appearance in court in front of a judge. i'm james torres, ktvu fox two news . we don't yet know the full allegations against former president trump as the indictment is still sealed, but earlier on mornings on to the nine we spoke with uc law san francisco professor david levine. he said there could be dozens of charges in the indictment. what we understand is that there may be up to three dozen different charges in this indictment, and so there may well be business fraud. it may be connected to the alleged payoffs to miss daniel. oils or it may have to do with other issues. we just won't know until

next week. professor levin also said he wouldn't be surprised if the judge imposed a gag order in this case in order would keep prosecutors in the former president for making statements regarding the proceedings. congresswoman nancy pelosi, the former house speaker who represents the bay area, reacted by saying the grand jury has acted upon the facts and the law . no one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove innocence. hopefully the former president will peacefully respect the system, which grants him that right. florida governor ron descendants, who is widely expected to challenge former president trump for the republican presidential nomination, reacted by saying the weaponization of the l system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head. it is un american. well the longtime executive director of the san jose police officers association is due to make her first quarter appearance today in federal court. ktvu is jesse gary tells us about the charges she's facing and has reaction from the head of san jose's police union. this has been the grandma of the

p o a. this is not the person that we've known for more than a decade. president sean pritchard still in shock and processing the revelation, the woman he thought he knew, as his executive director now charged with distributing opioids 13 page criminal complaint, federal agents alleged joanne segovia was the point person for a foreign operations importing and distributing drugs such as fentanyl. the 64 year old has worked for two decades as the executive director of the san jose police officers association . in that role, she provides logistical support for the president and board of directors when we first learned of this matter, we immediately placed her on leave. there's no sworn officers involved in this no other civilian employees. prosecutors say since 2015 to go via used her personal and work computer at the union office to order thousands of pills, and as recently as march, 15th have them delivered to her almond in valley home in south san jose,

then shipped nationally and internationally. a man who exited the town home thursday said no comment. but at least one neighbor says they're shocked by the allegations. because when you think of drug activity, think of people coming and going, but. if this is going across the country, it sounds like drug amazon on twitter, san jose mayor matt mehan says in part, this is an incredibly disturbing allegation. no one is above the law, regardless of who their employer is. i think this really shows how much of an epidemic we're in with fentanyl and overdoses related to fentanyl in woodhead is a member of the santa clara county fentanyl working group. she says. there have been 47 fentanyl overdose deaths so far this year, tackling it one person at a time. although it may seem like a small step, it's a step in the right direction to reduce easy access to these types of drugs at the police union officials launching their own internal investigation to make sure a once trusted

shooting deaths of two brothers who were students at berkeley high. the police department is not yet released any other information on the people under arrest. 15 year old angel in 17 year o j z. sotelo garcia shotnd killed at the house party in oakland, october 1st police had said the two shooters , one armed with a rifle, invaded an airbnb in your app guard macarthur and targeted the victims. police have said the motive was not gang or group related, rather some kind of dispute linked to the high school. president biden and first lady jill biden are in mississippi today, getting a firsthand look at damage done from deadly tornadoes that tore across that state in rolling fork, mississippi. that's where about 300 homes and businesses were destroyed. more than 20 people were killed, dozens more injured by the tornadoes. the president received a briefing this morning from federal, state and local leaders. he and the first lady are also talking with storm surge ivers volunteers and first responders. most important thing is we got to let people

north of us, and for the most part we do look to remain dry. it does favor areas of lake county as well as the north pay . we're now into sunday morning more of the same start out with partly cloudy, mostly clear skies are pretty start to the day but a chilly start to the day and then as we get into the evening hours notice a little bit more on the screen there when it comes to light blues and greens. so we may be adding a better chance that a few sprinkles comes late sunday afternoon into the early evening hours outside of that, we are looking at some nice weather. we've got 54 degrees right now. in san francisco, 55 in oakland upper fifties in brentwood, and for the south bay 57 for you, san jose, but into the afternoon temperatures again 5 to 10 degrees below average for this time of year. so even though we have the dry conditions, the partly cloudy conditions were warmer than yesterday. we are still well below where we should be for this time of year, and here's a better look at those afternoon highs the 59 expected in the north bay of napa for today, we'll go 61 in morgan hill and 58 expected over areas like hayward getting into the

winds and strong rains. the incident happened at lou shirt and buren zum hof, near the western city of bern, 12 people nine adults, three children were injured. the derailment is under investigation. government investigators sent to study the health impacts of the ohio train derailment fell sick during the investigation, the cdc team reported symptoms such as sore throat headaches, coughing and nausea, all consistent with what some residents experienced. after the february 3rd incident , the investigators were conducting a house to house survey in an area near the derailment. they immediately reported their symptoms to federal safety officers. minneapolis's agreeing to revamp its police department nearly three years after an officer killed george floyd, the minneapolis city council today approved an agreement with the state to revamp policing. city leaders agreed to negotiate an agreement after a blistering report last year by the state's department of human rights is

that the police department had engaged in a pattern of race discrimination for at least a decade. the state settlement includes sections governing the use of force, traffic stops, searches and arrests and the use of body worn and dashboard cameras. the vatican says pope francis is expected to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow after being treated for bronchitis. the vatican says the 86 year old pope contracted bronchitis through an infection that the antibiotics he was given at the hospital have led to a marked improvement in his health, also told the pope enjoyed some pizza last night. he was hospitalized wednesday with breathing problems. the world health organization in the cdc. alright odds over exactly who should be getting covid-19 shots and boosters at this point in the pandemic, lucas tomlinson has more from washington. covid vaccines are still a requirement in many school districts across the country, but new guidelines could change that the world health organization updating its covid vaccine recommendations, saying healthy kids and teenagers without preexisting conditions are not a priority

been set for 15 year old student accused of fatally stabbing another on the montgomery high school campus in santa rosa. the judge postponed it until may 4th so lawyers could debate a possible gag order. in this case, 16 year old jane panetta was stabbed to death inside of a classroom during a fight earlier this month. another student was also stabbed and injured. the student accused in the stabbing, is a freshman at montgomery high. the fbi believes missing woman from cemetery was being held capti in mexico. $40,000 reward is being offed in this case. the fbi says monic de leonarba was forced into a van in jalisco reptedly happened november 29th as a 29 year old was reportedly walking home from work with her dog. investigators believe this was not a random kidnapping. we believe this was a targeted kidnapping. we don't believe that she was a random victim, and we believe that she is still being held hostage. the hostage takers have been in contact with her family and the fbi is working very close, both

with the family and with authorities in mexico to bring her home safely. the fbi would not release any other details about what exactly the kidnappers are demanding. but they hope their reward will prompt someone to come forward quickly, with information growing calls for gun safety reform. republican leaders in tennessee are relaxing several of that state's gun laws just this week, the minimum age for carrying a handgun without a permit dropped from 21 to 18. it's a move that angered many, including local democratic lawmakers. at the same time, republican tennessee senators marsha blackburn and bill hagerty introduced the safe school act. the calls for hiring veterans and former police officers to serve as school safety officers. hundreds of community members rallied at the tennessee state capitol demanding gun reform four days after the mass shooting in nashville that left 39 year old students and three adults dead at the covenant school. the 28 year old shooter carried two assault rifles and a handgun protesters surrounded the statehouse and voice their

demands to lawmakers inside here at home, the independent monitor overseeing the oakland police department's latest report concludes, the department is facing very serious questions about its capacity to police itself. the monitor, robert warshaw said while the department has made progress in its technical compliance, cultural deficiencies are lingering. this follows the firing of chief laurent armstrong last month report commissioned by warshaw found the chief failed to hold the sergeant responsible for two incidents, one involving the firing of a gun in an elevator at opd headquarters and a hit and run in a parking lot in san francisco, wrote in the aftermath of recent developments . mayor schenk tao has invoked the leadership essential to the sustainment of a culture of accountability. the mayor has set the tone that should permeate the department. so organizationally it is in both technical compliance and on the road to real cultural transformation. a new proposed bill in the state legislature is aimed at increasing attention and resources to help find young african americans who go missing in california. the legislation

would create an ebony alert notification system similar to that of an amber alert but would be specifically for african american children and young women between the ages of 12 and 25. the alert is meant to address the disparities in public attention and media coverage that happened when young, black and white people go missing. young african american girls are listed more likely as runaways versus missing and even those who are being exploited sexually are listed as juvenile prostitute. because of those classifications are not sent out for many missing african american children. supporters say the ebony alert system would make black families in california feel confident in going to police for help in finding their missing loved ones . california office of emergency services says more help is on the way for people affected by the winter storms. since january . about a dozen big storms have hit california, causing hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, such as crumbling roads and the displacement of thousands of people. the state says it has hundreds of

officials on the ground in hard hit communities to see the damage. we find ourselves at a moment where we're pivoting from the direct response and lifesaving efforts to the ongoing long term recovery, which is, in many cases, the longer and more important part of the work that we do we want to reiterate that california will stand with all of the impacted survivors of these storms as we move forward through a variety of means. the state has already directed more than $60 million towards storm relief. governor newsom has also asked president biden for more help from fema, released by the u. s. drought monitor shows the entire bay area is out of drought conditions. it's a big change from last december, when almost the entire bay area was in a severe drought, matt keller of santa clara valley water said the agency could rescind its drought emergency its reservoirs are 150% of normal, but things could change quickly. the reality is we could be in another drought in a year. so we
