i'm an educator. all of these legacies mean that i have no choice but to fight. new twist tonight for san francisco's public school board as an embattled board member, announces a lawsuit against the district and her colleagues. the 11 o'clock news on ktvu fox two starts now. move comes after the school board voted last week to remove alison collins from her leadership position on the board because of tweets several years ago that were considered to be racist. hello again, everyone i'm frank somerville and i'm. lee julie haener today, colin supporters held a rally as she spoke out, ktvu deborah villalon joins us now live with her message. deb, julie apologetic. no more. allyson collins is on the offense, saying she is the target of a smear campaign to label her a racist. how

grateful i am for all the love and support school board member allyson collins is being called on to resign by virtually every san francisco politician. after tweets surface from before her election, suggesting asian americans benefit by white supremacy on a stereotype of being the model minority. she apologized but said her words were taken out of context. in this rally with supporters, collins is now defiant, calling the campaign against her a toxic political attack. i am a black woman. i'm a mother. i'm an educator, all of these legacies mean that i have no choice but to fight and fight in court. collins attorney waving a lawsuit just filed a written apology that they misunderstood her words that the words were not racist. the suit seeks some $80 million in damages from the district and five fellow board members who

removed collins as vice president and from committees she wants those rolls restored. within a week. they have a choice in seven days. they can do what we've suggested. and then this lawsuit gets threat. it goes away. the turmoil comes as school board members face a recall dr blamed for doing too little to get classrooms reopened as the pandemic east. collins backers say her tweets were unearthed as part of that campaign who dug out these tweets and rouz chose to be opportunistic. pushing political agenda, and supporters say collins rankled people by pushing for equity, namely the recent switch of lowell high school to lottery admission, the reason why they pick it on her, because guess why? because she's a black woman with power lawsuit claims, violation of due process and free speech. do not let me or anyone else be swept under the rug. canceled or dismissed for speaking truth to power. a

dozens of civic leaders, including mayor breed have said collins should resign over her tweets. julie the lawsuit just another big distraction as city schools struggle to rebound from the pandemic. yeah, it sure is. alright deborah villalon reporting live for us tonight. deb banks. we're following a developing story out of southern california tonight, where police in the city of orange are investigating a deadly shooting that happened at an office building and left four people dead, including a child. it all began about 5 30 tonight in a neighborhood that's about two miles from disneyland. the orange police department says they responded to a call of shots fired and when officers arrived, the gunman was still shooting. police ended up shooting and wounding the suspect again. in all four people were killed, including a child of fifth person was wounded and taken to the hospital in critical condition. the suspect was also taken the

hospital and is now in custody and is also in critical condition. police held a news conference just about an hour ago. they don't have a motive yet for the shooting there. also wouldn't release the names of the victims or the suspect. this is a very active investigation. we have multiple agencies here assisting with the investigation, including the orange county district attorney's office over the next hours, days and weeks. we will be attempting to determine and get as much information on the victims are suspect and the relationship between those as well as the type of business, which the security. this is the third mass shooting in the united states in just two weeks following shootings in georgia and colorado in a tweet tonight, governor newsome called today's shooting quote, horrifying and heartbreaking, he added. quote our hearts are with the families impacted by this terrible tragedy tonight. now to an emotional third day of testimony in the derrick show

woman earlier this week, police say 38 year old brandon elliot encountered the 65 year old woman on the street monday as she was walking to church. they say he shouted racial slurs at her, kicked her and repeatedly stomped on her. the woman suffered serious injuries but

was released from the hospital yesterday. police say the suspect was arrested at a homeless shelter and was charged with a hate crime assault. he was on parole for stabbing his mother to death. back in 2002 san jose. police are reaching out to small businesses in the asian american and pacific islander communities. the police chief there said that the business is air happy the department is focusing on safety. the effort comes as hate crimes against asian americans and pacific islanders have spiked nationally and here in the bay area. in response, the chief said, he's putting maura officers in a p i communities and beefing up patrols in those areas. like any community. we have challenges throughout their the city on we're gonna dress those weatherby crime related quality of life issues. more importantly right now we're sensitive to the issue. they're coming across with hate crimes, so that's something that we want to focus on and to

locals in disbelief. we don't have a favorite mexican spot anymore. where it's just so sad. i think the worst thing you ever happened to us. is this place closing for its last night dinner service was supposed to end at eight in the evening. lots of people stayed well past that building the place very well. thank you very much for all the years of good food and good company, and i'm gonna cry now. azenith smith ktvu fox two news. in oakland, a ceremony today celebrating the life of restaurant owner dorothy king. she owned everything. jones barbecue on broadway by jacqueline and square and was known as the queen of q. he died on march 17th while battling breast cancer. she was 69 years old. several barrier leaders attended the service outside of her restaurant, her family and people who knew her describe miss king as a compassionate rebel and say her restaurants were only part of who she was.
