weather pattern. 50s and 60s. but these numbers we are expecting about a 10th of an inch. mill valley is .40. san francisco point 14. not a major deal but we had a pretty good downpour yesterday evening. right now on the radar not a lot of coverage out there. still some chain controls in the sierra on 80 and 50. winter weather advisory in place until 9:00 this morning. in the mountains a little bit of green showing on the radar but not much. numbers are up in the upper 30 in the north bay, 48 in san francisco. livermore is 44 degrees. this morning we have partly cloudy skies, still some dusty wins -- gusty winds there is a chance of isolated showers. most of the area will be dry.

temperatures this afternoon we are starting out the day in the low 40s and low 50s it 8:00. by 4:00 upper 50s to low 60s. more with your forecast in a few minutes. hopefully no major problems on the roadways. 580 westbound altamont pass commute where people are coming from the faraway places relatively far i should say. tracy, san jose. it's kind of a long drive. the drive has started as you can see stop and go traffic here. no major issues. when we talk about this were also talking about trains with no major delays. this is a look at 680 southbound through pleasanton, that traffic is okay. 880 northbound in front of the coliseum a nice looking dry. at the bay bridge kind of an early start here, we have a little bit of backup on both sides here. but the middle lanes and far

left lanes are still moving well . at 502 let's go back to the desk. another freeway shooting in the chp is investigating. this time highway for not far from concord. >> reporter: this is another highway shooting. chp says there's been more than 100 over the past year. we did take a look over at highway four before we got to chp headquarters. no investigators on the highway. so the traffic is clear and flowing on highway four . this happened around 11:00 last night . shots were fired at a vehicle traveling east on highway four near concord. it was near port chicago highway in the willow pass road offramp. around midnight chp slow traffic is investigators search the scene. the car that was shot at drove to antioch before stopping. chp towed the car back to the chp office. here you can see the bullet

holes on the side of that vehicle. at this time we do not have any confirmation if anyone was injured in the shooting. why the car stopped in antioch. can only be speculation the driver might have been scared that's why he waited until getting to antioch to pull over. again chp is investigating this highway shooting. an announcement at 10:00 this morning by san francisco city leaders about a new plan to reduce the number of car break-ins.>> last year more than 30,000 burglaries were reported in san francisco. that's three times reported that in 2010. the police responded by assigning offices to a new unit especially targeting car break- ins. the police department says 31% decrease in break-ins between january and february. san francisco mayor and police chief will hold a 10:00 news conference this morning to give

us more information. they will do it at fisherman's wharf, the area where the has been many, many car break-ins . the family of a google engineer killed last month when a tesla suv crashed on autopilot. they plan to sue tesla. the victim was killed while driving to work on 101 in mountain view. his family has hired lawyers for a wrongful death lawsuit. they state tesla's autopilot is defective. likely caused juan's death. tesla responded, statement reads in part, the crash happened on a clear day with several hundred feet of visibility. which means the only way for this accident to have occurred is if mr. wong was not paying attention to the road. despite the car providing multiple warnings to do so. this morning, president trump is tweeting about jerry brown's decision to go along with the presidents request and send 400 california national guard members to the border. the president tweeted jerry brown is doing the right thing and sending the national guard

to the border. thank you jerry. good move for the safety of our country. the governor said he will accept federal funding to deploy those members of national guard. to join 55 others already there at the border. the guard members will support the border patrol. the governor says they will help stop drug smugglers in human trafficking but will not take part in building a war or enforcing federal immigration policy. while some support this move others say it sends a wrong message to the immigrant community. >> people are afraid to to go to work and take the children to school. and you know this is another signal for immigrants that we are not to trust our government.>> is nice to see that the governor is putting the concerns of california residents ahead of partisanship. because really order security should be bipartisan issue.

in a letter, governor brown said your funding for new staffing will allow the guard to do what it does best. support operations targeting the transnational gangs. human traffickers and illegal firearms and drug smugglers along the border, the coast and throughout the state. billionaire, democratic mega donor hosted a town hall meeting last night. he called for the impeachment of president trump. >> there are hundreds of people in the crowd and i gave him a standing ovation. he spent $20 million in his own money in an ad campaign to call for the president impeachment. the initiative has collected 5 million signatures while the russian investigation has not reached its conclusion already evidence to show that the president obstructed justice. >> impeachment is not about putting somebody in jail, it's about removing them from office. richard nixon never went to

jail and he never would've gone to jail. he would have just become a private citizen which is what happened.>> the first of 30 schedule town hall set to take place across the country. senate foreign relations committee will hold confirmation hearings for mike pompeo. the current cia director is nominated to be the new secretary of state. he is expected to face a lot of questions raging -- ranging from syria to china. pompeo is a republican from kansas who gained the trust of president trump while advising him about foreign issues. if he is confirmed pompeo will replace rex tellis and who was fired last month. hackers from switzerland said they are the ones behind fake emails to school district across the country. they are taking credit for the emails. emeryville the email claiming to be a bullied student who was planning bombings and shootings, prompted school leaders to cancel class.

other districts responded by having police on campus while students attended school. the group also said it made similar threats in the united kingdom just a few weeks ago. a student run magazine at palo alto high school is getting some national attention. this month addition features a physical blowhole running through every page.>> our reporter explains the dramatic effect the magazine is having. and the message the student writers are hoping to convey. >> reporter: there is a gaping hole in this month's issue of magazine. it purses the cover and disrupts each article inside. but the students of palo alto high school say disruption was the point and want to make a strong statement about gun violence. >> somebody threw it out what if we do this, more more people said we could do that. >> reporter: there advisor and printer found a way, physically

house speaker paul ryan is not running for reelection has month -- many run -- wondering about the republican party's future.>> paul ryan has been in congress since 1999 and reluctantly became house speaker when john weiner resigned. ryan says his reason for leaving is personal.>> my dad died when i was 16, the age my daughter is. if i am here for one more term, my kids will only have ever known me as a weekend dad. i just can't let that happen. >> paul ryan is a latest republican to say he won't run for reelection. more than 30 house republicans say they are leaving. a handful of republican senators upset as well.>> that leads to members to retire but when that happens it makes the

yesterday. for today we will have partly cloudy skies, some moisture behind the system. it could trigger a chance of very isolated shower. forecast model tried to do that later on today. you can see most of the area is dry but the best chance would be in the north bay near portions of the coastline. for the afternoon skies are partly cloudy and breezy, temperatures backup into 50s and lower 60s. looking ahead you want a break from the rain clouds i think you'll like the friday and saturday forecast. saturday probably the nicest day this week and then a chance of showers by sunday afternoon. showers could be likely into monday. so just amazing as we approach mid april, this rain still wants to pay us a visit. another system on monday could be about wednesday. >> should we be happy about the rain? >> exactly. remember how dry it was.>> yes we have the miracle march and

a stockton man is recovering when he was attacked and robbed at his ice cream stand. the victim was working at his bicycle card about 3 pm on sunday when two men approached him. they asked for ice cream. when martinez opened his cart they stole his cash, wallet and cell phone. he was knocked to the ground and suffered several injuries.>> all i heard was ringing they knocked me down on my ear. then i fell to the ground. >> min of the 20s driving a red

nissan or toyota are the suspects. on tuesday different ice cream vendor was attacked. in this case and 82-year-old man was jumped by four teens. bystanders try to scare them away before they stole his money. investigators are trying to determine if the same people are involved in the attacks . eight police officers in argentina are in trouble. marijuana in their custody mysteriously disappeared. a half ton of cannabis out of six times suddenly disappeared. after further investigation a police officers were arrested when they were asked what happened. the officers claimed that rats living in the police station aided -- eight it. they booked officers on charges to include failure to protect evidence. former speaker of the house john weiner is now lobbying in favor of legalizing marijuana. he says he wants is the federally funded research on the medical benefits and to allow that medical -- department of veterans affairs

not a lot of traffic backup. but i think one of the reasons people are stuck where i told you about in fairfield. so right now in vallejo where we normally see slow traffic is not there yet. i don't think people have gotten through in a big number. we are also looking at northbound 680 at north maine. there is police action. so that would be just outside her camera view on northbound 680 n. maine. they're taking everyone off the freeway and putting them back on a little later for some police activity. were not sure how long it's going to last. so far it has not caused a big delay. but we'll keep an eye on it for you. were also looking at bay bridge told plaza of with a delay of about 10 minutes. we have a tragic update to a hit-and-run crash in oakland, we told you about this yesterday morning. a nine-year-old gold girl has now died from the crash. police are still searching for the driver who crashed into her car then fled the scene. henry lee talked to witnesses has the latest on the police

investigation.>> reporter: these smash cars and debris are what's left of a chain reaction crash that killed a nine-year- old girl and sent to other children on a woman to a hospital. it happened at 35th and paxson avenue just after nine tuesday night. investigators say a woman driving a toyota corolla with three girls inside was making a u-turn to head south on 35th when they were struck by an infiniti suv also heading south. those cars and slammed into several parked vehicles.>> i was over there calling police already. and then i saw others said there's a little girl. i told police. >> reporter: witness told me as many as five people from the suv ran away. nine-year-old died at a hospital. the 25-year-old female driver is in critical condition. and eight and 10-year-old girl are in stable conditions. ruby owns the damage nissan but she's more concerned about those little girls. >> i just pray to god that the

little girls are okay. >> reporter: witnesses told police they saw beer cans in the suv. but at this point police aren't saying if alcohol was involved in the crash. but based on the damage investigators are looking into another possible factor in the wreck. >> speed may be one of the causing factors of the collision but that has to be determined by the investigators. there's a lot of accidents around here i think they should put some lights. >> reporter: police should step up and enforcement of traffic violators. >> family should pay a price for someone's illegal behavior or wrong decision whether drunk driving or just don't have the experience to be on the road driving. >> reporter: oakland police are asking witnesses who or anyone who is involved to give us a call. new information about the

deadly crash two weeks ago in mendocino county. that killed a family of eight. 911 call records from washington state show one of the mothers who died sent a text to a friend. two days before the crash saying she was so sick she might have to go to hospital. a friend later called 911 saying she was worried because she hadn't heard from the family since getting that message. hours later the suv was found at the bottom of a steep cliff. authorities have said it appears the crash was deliberate. facebook ceo mark zuckerberg testimony yesterday lasted nearly 5 hours . similar to the previous day, zuckerberg fielded questions about the cambridge analytical data breach. and what are the facebook's plans to protect user privacy. many say it's time for government regulation. zuckerberg did not disagree.>> the internet is growing in importance around the world and

in people's lives. i think it's inevitable that will need to be some regulation. >> reporter: sucker birds two days of congressional questioning reveals how little some lawmakers know about social media. he found himself repeatedly explaining how the company operates. a san francisco school district is considered in a new way to help homeless students at one school . calls to convert the gymnasium at buena vista horace mann community school to an overnight shelter. the school house is about 16 homeless students. a nonprofit would operate the shelter and help family get services. the school districts is a lot of details that have to be worked out including how many families could stay overnight and which ones. >> if we can offer a place that's warm, dry, where they can count on a meal, where they can do their homework, that they already trust i would say certainly this is a step up for them. >> it will cost about $900,000 to operate the shelter and if

it's approved, the school district says the shelter could open in october. later today we will talk live with the vice principal of that school. and antioch homeless encampment people are getting a 72 hour notice today and encampment near a dead-end street was back officials say the latest sweep will happen monday and they say the garbage and human waste there had become a health hazard. as many as 75 people are believed to be living in the 20 5/10 in the area. some neighbors say they have taken over the street. >> you can't even drive in the street because they're walking up and down in the middle of the street. i mean i come in i can't even park. it's not right. >> reporter: under city code the campus considered a blight. a hazard into the wetlands flowing into the san joaquin river and help in violation

las vegas when the plane crashed from the golf course near phoenix shortly after taking off. federal investigators are looking for the cause . sexual assault suspect the santa clara county has been ordered to stay behind bars when he awaits trial. there is forensic evidence linking the suspect to crimes in palo alto and alameda county. yesterday superior court judge review police reports of the to sex assault and denied bail same there is clear and convincing evidence that he is release would result in harm to others. >> these are horrific, violent, unprovoked attack on two bay area young women. and our thoughts and hearts are with them today. it's my job to make sure that he is fully accountable and helpfully accountable for these attacks. >> detectives say the suspect attacked a 14-year-old girl who is jogging in the palo alto park last month and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. is also accused of attacking a woman in her 30s who were sitting at her car at oakland park. police say there may be other victims. the suspect is set to enter a plea. if he's guilty you could face

life in prison. 49ers player due back in court tomorrow. he was arrested last friday where he allegedly showed up at the sheriff's department severely intoxicated he pleaded guilty -- not guilty to assault, domestic violence and vandalism charges in connection to an incident in march. last thursday a judge ordered smith to be fitted with an ankle monitor and use alcohol monitoring advice. when he showed up with the sheriff device for the monitor his blood alcohol content was .40. five times the legal limit for driving here in california. smith remains jailed on half million dollars jail. he is due back in court tomorrow. we now know who the warriors are going to play in the first round of the nba playoffs. they will host the san antonio spurs starting this saturday. these two teams played each other last year on the western conference finals. the warriors swept san antonio.
