we are getting new information this noontime about the shooting rampage at a south bay workplace and the frantic search for the gunman. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. we're following developing news out of the south bay where police are still searching for the gunman that killed two people and injured seven others. most of the sheetings were at lehigh southwest cement plant located stevens creek boulevard. the suspected gunman was an employee there. we have team coverage. claudine wong is on the sunnyvale/cupertino border.

we begin with tara moriarty. >> reporter: we've learned some new information from an employee. he says that the company has actually come under fire for safety violations since the beginning of this year. some of the workers have even been written up for not following proper procedure. he could not tell us if the suspect, the gunman, shareef allman -- allman, was one of the employees. there was a shift change and then there was an argument and then allman left, went to his vehicle, returned with a gun and started shooting. two people were killed. one person escaped by jumping out the window. we spoke to another employee off camera who described the panic his coworkers -- his coworkers felt. >> the next thing i know the s.w.a.t. team is coming up. they come up and secure the stairway and elevator and they brought us out, like i said, ten at a time, and put us in the squad car and flew down the

hill. >> reporter: here's what the scene looked like early their morning. dozen -- early this morning. dozens of officers scoring the quarry. one individual said allman had been workings as a loader/operator for 20 years. on monday workers said he was quieter than usual and yesterday, tuesday, he was actually avoiding people and not looking at them in the eye. [ crying ] >> reporter: we saw many tearful reunions. the workers who escaped unharmed are the ones in the orange vest. now, santa clara county sheriff deputies handling the case say

shareef allman is still at large. we believe one of his weapons has been recovered. we're told he had a handgun and a rifle. six people who were under wound -- who were wounded. their wounds range from threatening to non-life- threatening. back here live, if you take a look behind me you can see all of the sea of cameras. that's because the sheriff's office is going to be holding a press conference here momentarily. it is a media circus out here on stevens creek boulevard, if you need to get through here, we -- you should let folks know to avoid this intersection. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> okay. tara. thank you. we've watched s.w.a.t. teams go door to door in the neighborhood all morning where police think the gunman might be. police say shareef allman opened fire during a -- they

say he then turned up in a parking lot for hewlett-packard along the sunnyvale border and shot a woman in the leg during an attempted carjacking. claudine wong is standing by a live report on the state of the manhunt right now. claudine? >> reporter: well, it is still ongoing. still no sign of shareef allman. we are five hours into this search but we have new details about what happened here and we have -- we have new video of a development we were baching -- watching. police officers found a rifle. they apate -- they apparently watched surveillance video of him getting in the car with the rifle on his back. the question now did he dump it in the dumper? -- dumpster? what we know is he went to the parking lot of hp after that and we just talked to the man who was in the lot after 7:00. he said he talked to allman and

he talked to him about committing an -- submitting an application. the same man said he came back in the parking lot and that's when he -- >> he started to move away from the guy and he started to move towards her and he punched her. after punching her she fell on the ground. i try -- i tried to hide and i was going to get in the car, get -- go run towards her and hit the guy because he punched her but then i -- as soon as i put down my bag, i saw two shots fired, pop! pop! after that i tried to hide -- and i alerted my coworkers that my coworker got shot. and then i went downstairs because i want to go where she is. >> reporter: she's expected to be okay. we want to know -- to show you

another picture of shareef allman. if even if the rifle turns out to be his, they still also believe he has a handgun. this manhunt remains in lockdown. schools, hp remains locked down at this hour. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> okay. the lock june, we've heard cupertino union school district officials remain open but the students are being held inside the classroom as a precaution. we've also heard from an employee at apple, which is in cupertino, those employees have been told to stay inside their offices during the search for this gunman. ktvu is also learning more about the suspect who at one point hosted his own tv show. sal castanedo has been looking online and finding out more about shareef allman. sal joins us in the noom. sal? >> well, we're getting our first look at the suspect named

by police. tori. >> the name of my show is real torrieo -- >> that's 45-year-old shareef allman. he's on a tv program. he was a distributer for an educational act sose tv "create tv." his show was called "reel to reel." several episodes have been uploaded. at one point he interviewed jesse jesse jacksons. >> i hope what he gave to us, we take out to the community. >> on his show we see allman pictured with very celebrities -- celebrities. allman is well known in the african-american community, especially in the south bay and bay area. he's also written a book called "amazing grace" and that's on

the top of domestic violence. that's been featured on some of the access tv shows we've been able to locate online. we've spoken to some people who knew him and they say that he are surprised by what any call out of character behavior. >> he's a good friend of mine, i've known him since the '19 -- 1980s. so far we have no word on police for the note -- for the meeting. he may have been upset about a shift change. i just got off the phone. and she said shareef was not an employee. he just came in to produce the tv show. she says they are devastated and they are just gonna keep tuned in to what happens here.

sal castanedo, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, sal. right now we want to go back to sunnyvale where we understand a news conference is underway. >> there were about 15 employees in the meeting. one of the employees, shareef allman, was also present at the meeting. he's described as an african- american adult, about 5'11", 215 pounds, he's 47. he lives in the city of san jose. at about 4:15 this morning, mr. allman came into the meeting. he had a handgun and an assault rifle and started shooting people in the meeting. after the -- shortly after the incident, he left in his vehicle. at about 7:00 this morning, there was an attempted carjacking and a woman was shot. this was near hp in the city of cupertino. approximately five miles from

lehigh cement. the female that was shot has non-life-threatening injuries. it was only an a. ited har hijack -- hijacking. we then located the suspect's vehicle as a -- at a service station very, very close to the hp state -- hp site. at this point, there are three dead, two were dead at the scene. one was pronounced dead at the hospital. there are seven injured, some of which are critically -- are in critical condition. we've since recovered -- recovered one shot gun, one handgun and two assault rifles. we've set up a command post at the monte vista fire station. we have two scenes, the lehigh and the hewlett-packard scene, and we have branches set up at

both of those. neighbors have been note bid -- notified by alert cc. many of the schools are closed and the emergency operations center at the city of cupertino has been activated. we believe the suspect is armed and dangerous. we have a perimeter and several agencies who are asitting in the church. those include sunnyvale department of public safety, san jose police -- san jose police, santa clara police, gilmore police, the fbi is on the scene with the s.w.a.t. team standing by. campbell police department. right now it's a search for the suspect. he should be considered armed and dangerous. as far as phone numbers, it's

-- if you live in the area of wolf and homestead and see any suspicious activity, please dial 911. this is an armed suspect that we're currently looking for. we have established at the cupertino city of hall offices a family assistant center. that phone number is 408-777- 3200. that's for any family members if there are any witnesses or anyone that has any information of a nonemergency nature but are a witness to this at all, please call our detectives at 408-808-4500. again, if you live in the ire ya, use caution. he's considered armed and dangerous. and we have an active search going. i would be happy to sake some questions. record, the latest is in 1996. [ the question is inaudible ] >> no. seven injured in addition to the three deseddent. >> can you tell us about the -- >> he was a disgrunted employee -- >> about the gunman. >> oh, we're not releasing that information. they've been taken to many areas of trauma stations. so we're not releasing any information. >> why was he a disgruntled employee? >> he was disgruntled with -- with -- at his employer. we don't have any additional information on that.

>> have you talked to the family members -- >> we have talked to the family investigation. this is an active investigation. we're talking to many, many people because finding him is the most important part. >> are these weapons registered to him? >> i am now sure that i know that, we have run weapons and we have weapons registered to him. we just don't know. i don't know. >> we have recovered now weapons and you don't have -- >> and you don't know if he has others? >> we believe he's armed currently. >> it's still too early to tell. we know a handgun and assault rifle was used at rely. >> did you recover them at -- >> the represents dash the weapons have been recovered at a scene but not -- not at his house. >> so they've been recovered in

various locations, including -- weigh told you that we did find his vehicle, we did find his vehicle? >> the woman at hp was shot after the incident -- [ inaudible ] >> three employees. that number ten does include the woman -- >> there's another shooting in san jose on sierra road. at least, they are uncovering a body there. >> yes -- no, it's not related. i think that's ours, correct? yes, that's ours. that's separate and unrelated that we know of at this time.

>> do you know what the motive was? >> i don't have that information. >> how did he get the weapons in the meeting? >> i don't know. i don't november how he got them in. i think he just walked in with them but i'm not certain of that. he was there and he did leave and get the firearm or firearms. >> so it appears he was prepared to -- >> i'm not gonna go that far to say he was prepared. >> how many people were in the meeting? >> there were about 15 people at the meeting. i don't know the -- the numbers i've given you of the injure and the decreased -- deceased are all of the people injured, and that includes the woman at hp. >> there is an active search.

what do you know at this point? >> well, we know that shortly after the incident at lehigh, he left in his vehicle, we've recovered the vehicle. >> where was he searching for -- >> list last known location was at wolf and homestead. that's the area we were searching. he was seen leaving his vehicle at 7:00 this morning. we still have two active locations that we're make something sure is secure and that we are very everybody that we're looking for. that's ongoing right now. >> we recovered weapons in the field. i'm not sure which ones were in

his vehicle but somewhere. >> if you know a cell phone that he has, please let us know. we don't believe he has one. if we do, that could be -- that would be a tre mennous advantage. so if anyone knows about him having a cell phone, please let us know? >> what are the challenges of finding him? >> well, the challenges are the big, gee graphic pairiad. the challenges are that he's armed or we believe he's armed. its a -- it's a wide prommy ter. >> the suspect does have family members and yes, we've been in touch. >> are they helping you? >> i am not sure exactly what they are doing. i believe so. >> if you could day something to them right now, what would you say to him? >> i would say we need to find him. please surrender. there are a lot of officers out

there. we need you and we need you know and we need to make sure -- to make sure that the public is safe. so if -- i'm sorry. >> they just have additional resources. because in an incident like this, the good thing about law enforcement, we have so many people who are willing to share their subjects. we're not active -- the fbi and s.w.a.t. team is on standby but we do have some. their manage -- management here. >> you've been listening to lori smith from the sheriff's department giving us knew information after the shooting outrage in cupertino. three people are confirmed dead. two were killed at the scene, one died at the hospital. seven are injured. some are in critical condition and that kevin -- seven injured includes the woman shot in the parking lot during an attempted

carjacking by the suspect. they've recovered four locations at various locations. they do believe the suspect, shareef allman, is armed and dangerous and most are involved in the search for him, including the fbi. you can go to ktvu.com for more on all the of this information and we will be continuing to this -- to follow this throughout the day on ktvu. turning now to such. the floods are -- to storm watch. the. many areas are sunny but it may feel a little bit warmer than november because of cooler temperatures and isolated showers that are moving through the area. that's after knight rain that brought west wet to the morning commute. this is video coming from the richmond and/san rafael bridge toward 880. the storm that brought rain to the bay area overnight also dropped snow in the sierra.

over the of the law hours. this is the sweep. you can see the focus of the heavier showers. i've been watching this cell over the past hour. it started out around sfo. you can see the regression heading out to the east. in fact, was's -- as we do -- there's 880 and that's padre view. this is the shooting out to the south and east at a speed of about $25 miles an hour. thisst art woo a -- we're expecting more -- a speed of about 25 miles an hour. quite a few clouds building up over the hast few hours. temperature -- over the past few hours. rainfall totals, especially for this time of year, very

impressive, especially up in the north bay. look at santa rosa, right about an inch. san jose, about .36. here is the system scouting -- scooting out to the south and east. some school -- cool unstabled air. with that, a mixure of sun and clouds and also the chance of some lightning. here is our rainfall forecast model at 4:00 showing ut coverage. by 5:00 increasing the east and south -- to the -- increasing the east and the south. for lake tahoe, that winter storm worning -- warning in place until -- until 11:00. the order will be around 3 to 6- inch the. we've following off. no 70s. warmest location openly in the upper 60s. but some changes and your

we want to go back to our breaking news. we've been on for eight hours. the search for the man who shot ten people in the south bay claudine wong is on the scene. where do things stand now. >> as you heard the sheriff say a few minutes agriculture here on channel 2, the priority is finding the gunman and the search for him continues even though there have been weapons recovered, the sheriff and police believe he's still warmed -- still around. that's why you see this officer here standing against this week. he has a rifle out. they are all armed. they have interest guns -- they have their guns at the ready in case he comes out here. when he first aish -- when we first arrived out here, they told us to stay back. you with are looking at one of the weapons they believe they recovered from shareef allman. they found that weapon near where he left his car when he came from the quarry to this

sunnyvale/cupertino neighborhood. they also say they found weapons in his vehicle and they say they found other weapons at various low cases. they still believe he's armed. this area remains on locked down. they are front -- they are not letting cars in and out of here. hp is locked down, local schools are locked down. the top priority is finding shareef allman. they've not located him yet but his last location was at this hp parking lot which is right here and at a gas station about three, four blocks from where we're standing. so this continues we've seen the s.w.a.t. team move in and out of here it looks like they will be here for a while. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> are people -- have you seen neighbors going in and
