lot to recover. >> our engineers actually looking at the project and there they're in the hundreds of thousands. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> theresa kron, 4 news san jose is receiving 8.5 million dollars to enhance road safety in the city. the money from the department of transportation is going to be used on the speed safety cameras program. the goal is to reduce traffic deaths and injuries in san jose. so far 17 people have died from traffic accidents this year. the new area code is coming to a big chunk of california. 5, it stretches from the edge of the bay area all the way up to the oregon border. but starting january 2025, people who receive a new number could now get the area code 8, 3, 7, the decision comes after a high demand for new phone numbers in the area. >> personal data of recology customers in san francisco may have been leaked in a data breach in a letter to

customers. recology says the breach happened last november. the company began an internal review and says it found sensitive information including customers, names dates of birth, social security and health insurance information. all of that leaked. but the company does not believe the leaked information is being used for fraud or identity theft. recology is still offering a complimentary identity theft protuction membership to its customers. the new non-partisan state report finds that governor gavin newsom's budget deficit is much larger than he says it is. but it also concludes he's put the state on track to solve it. capitol correspondent eytan wallace has the story. 27.0. 6 billion dollars. that's what governor gavin newsom believes is the size of the state's projected budget deficit. but this new report from the non-partisan legislative analyst's office or >> independently reviewed newsom's budget and concluded the governor is facing a 55 billion dollar deficit

twice the size of his projection. why for the analysis in newsom's budget presentation last friday. he did not include a 27 billion dollar reduction. he's already budgeted in implemented for schools and community colleges. the says when you factor that in, it actually shows newsom faces a 55 billion dollar deficit. but legislative analyst gabe paddack who authored the report stresses even with the updated deficit projection. his analysis concludes newsom's proposed spending cuts, deferrals and delays are putting the state in his words, a better fiscal footing going forward. he adds his analysis as the governor's budget takes difficult but important steps to slashing the deficit, including more than 18 billion dollars in cuts to various programs and a plan to dipping into the reserves. but not all of them. is this a crisis? >> what we still view it as a serious budget problem. we do not think of it as a crisis because right now and under this proposal, even you know, the state will retain the the

majority of its budget reserves. that's really very prudent. in addition the governor's proposal begins addressing the future, your deficits that we and their office had identified previously. and so this helping this helping the state get on the proper fiscal trajectory. >> hd palmer with the california department of finance responded to the report on behalf of the newsom. administration would know that. >> regardless of political affiliation, the legislature's own independent analysts in their initial review. the governor's proposal believes accomplishes a lot of important fiscal goals. we have a balanced proposal that we believe a is a is a difficult but necessary way to do that. that still protects a lot of the core programs and services to people in the state reliable republicans question newsom's numbers arguing he has not been transparent with the budget process. the governor. >> chosen to present his budget in a way that is not

along the coastline. you see low clouds and fog continue along the beaches even into sunday. and you see the temperatures spread and that's why we've got the cool 50's and a half. moon bay are 70 in dublin, 75 degrees in pittsburgh. even 80 for our friends in brentwood right now. 73 in calistoga. 64 in napa. but that fog. yeah, it's hovered out there right now. getting ready to move back on shore. you see just the past now marine toward the east bay hills. more that on the way overnight tonight. watch what happens as we head through the night tonight. so that real thick fog to develop move all the way the central valley like this morning. tomorrow morning, it's much more patchy around the bay area that is going to break up by the afternoon and leaving lots of sunshine. temperatures will be cool in spots of the san francisco 50's low 60's in many spots. their 50's along the immediate coast with that patchy fog inside the bay of finds warmer number. 64 in burning about 66 in foster city. 70 in redwood city, the south bay enjoying 70's in a few 80's. nice warm afternoon. and the state also will be on the warm side, some upper 70's, the warm spots there about 72 moraga. 73 and walnut creek about 74 in danville,

warmer 77 degrees in pittsburgh back toward the coast, though, much cooler. as you can see, that patchy fog kind of lingering throughout the day. temperatures hovering in the 50's out toward the beaches next couple days steady as she goes looking nice over the weekend. these temperatures coming down a couple degrees from earlier this week and then it looks like a late in the week. we'll see more cooler move in. the temperatures drop even further. >> highway one in big sur is finally back open to traffic. caltrans sharing this video this morning after they activated signaling system they're part of the highway collapse back in late march following one of our winter storms just a half mile north of the famous bixby bridge, a project to ionstruct a permanent repair to the highway is currently in the design phase and is projected to be ready by the spring of 2025. from 4 is your local election headquarters. hundreds of republicans from across the state there set to

we would never in our entire history. you run out of food after distribution. and we've done that consistently for the last 4 months eggs says it has been a struggle lately. keeping the refrigerators school and even the lights turned because donations all around are down. despite the demand for services jumping at least 50% since the start of the pandemic, monetarily and food supplies. plus, we well, a lot of volunteers behind me, but we need more faith food, friday's partners with the food bank of contra costa in-salon serving as a distributor. the organization also provides groceries to homeless vallejo city unified school district students to keep them fed when schools closed. >> school district academic support provider here logan pix, the food every week and 2 of them look forward to it. and it's not just because they receive a bad, but i believe because it does them. >> and help them over the

>> and now kron 4 sports. >> well, that was plenty of action in the holiday inn. the golf course for the morning. but not the activity you would have expected early on there. it was unusual activity before the major championship. it was actually a police presence and a heavy one at that. scotty scheffler. he was actually arrested after a chaotic incident. he was attempting to drive onto the golf course ground now prior to sheffler arriving to the course a fatal accident involving a tournament worker was being investigated by the louisville into the facility was then affected by that because the police we're trying to, you know, guy traffic in a different way now was confusing. it wasn't a confusing change. also for

scheffler the officer now, according to the police chef and refused to comply and when he moved the vehicle forward to drive on to the facility, he allegedly dragged officer to the ground. so scheffler then stopped the car, comply with police and was handcuffed and arrested now but say it, there are varying versions of the incident, but we do know for sure that scheffler was booked and charged with 3 misdemeanors and the second degree assault of a police officer, which is a felony charge he was released with no bail, went back to a violent the 10 0 a t time for the second round of today's plane at his arraignment is scheduled for tuesday after his round scheffler actually spoke about this earlier this morning. and take a listen to what he had to say. >> i can't really explain what happened this i did spend some time stretching in a jail cell. that was a first for me. you know, i was part of a warm-up was just sitting there waiting and the officers inside the jail were tremendous. a couple of them made some jokes. i think when figured out, you know who i
