>> now at 5, david de pap the man convicted of assaulting nancy pelosi's husband, paul is sentenced to 3 decades in federal prison for the brutal attack in october of 2022, thank you for joining us here on kron for news at 5. i'm noelle bellow and i'm grant lotus a federal judge in san francisco sentenced up app today. he will spend 30 years in prison for assault and kidnapping. >> the pap appeared in court this morning in an orange jumpsuit. he showed very little emotion during the proceedings and even as former house speaker nancy pelosi had a statement, read her husband, paul is still struggling with injuries suffered in the attack after dipak was sentenced. one of his 2 sons spoke saying he said by what happened. >> you really tried his best to be a kind person. and the thing is because i know him personally. i know that there is no real heart and that person. >> the fbi also made a statement saying that they

believe justice has been served. now as for what's next for dcip app, you're talking about a state trial. the pact is facing 6 felony counts at the state level. jury selection in the trial is set to begin next week. kron four's lezla gooden spoke to a legal expert about how today's sentencing at the federal level could affect the state proceedings. >> at federal trial is finally over for david de pap, the man convicted of breaking into former house speaker nancy pelosi is home and assaulting her husband with a hammer 2 years ago. a federal judge on friday sentenced him 30 years in prison for salt in 20 years of attempted kidnapping. the federal official, the sentences will run concurrently government sent a very loud message. >> to the united states citizens that we are not going to tolerate this type of conduct where our politicians and leaders are attacked regardless of their political ideology. legal analyst steven

clark says the sentencing could determine the outcome of dip happes upcoming state trial. some charges he's facing their includes attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. but the key will be did he have specific intent to commit murder paul pelosi? and i think that will be the big fight in the state case. if he's convicted of attempted murder, he will face a life sentence. but if he's only convicted of assault, it will be a much want less sentence. 44 year-old the pap admitted that he had planned to hold the speaker pelosi hostage and break her kneecaps if she liked him. both the prosecution and defense stated that conspiracy theories played a role in the attack. >> lucia null statements and conspiracy theories. he was espousing. >> both before and after. >> the incident with mister pelosi, i think it's going to go a long way in. >> the state court to show that he did not have the specific intent to commit murder, that this should be an assault with a deadly weapon. clark says there is another

the latest information on the war from campus. protests here at home to the conflict there on the ground as well as the hostage situation. you can head to our website kron 4 dot com. >> tonight, highway 37 will be closed again. going to close all weekend between sonoma and solano counties. caltrans will be working on a repaving project. they say they'll have detours beginning at the highway. 37 the highway one. 21 interchange near sears point. the closure will begin tonight at 10 o'clock and run through 5 in the morning on monday. also tonight, lanes on 6 ad will close for the weekend in san ramon. this will start at 9 tonight. it last through 4 o'clock monday morning. the partial closure is one of 2 with another set to happen the week of may 31st. caltrans says it will affect southbound 6 ad between now costa boulevard in san ramon and 5, 86, 80 connector in pleasanton to keep traffic congestion down. caltrans suggests taking alternate

routes for a full list of those you can head to our website kron 4 dot com. >> thousands of people are going to be in san francisco sunday morning for the annual bay to breakers running jogging, even dancing their way to the finish line during the quirky and fun 12 k race. that's right. kron four's rob nesbitt was speaking with organizers and >> runners taking part over the weekend. he joins us now live in san francisco. it is always quite a sight. rob, you of your costume all picked out. >> not yet. grand allowed the still a little bit of a time because on sunday participants a bay to breakers will start on main street in san francisco around 08:00am and make their way all the way to the other end of the city to ocean beach. the costumes are always a big draw, but there's also a rich history to this 113 year-old tradition. from the starting line. the creativity is evident with the runners, a bay to breakers. it's become a tradition for tony him. all to and this has been day or

>> local pantries distributing groceries to food, insecure families are the key partners for our food banks. but as kron four's, philippe djegal explains monetary and food donations are way down this year. and the group faith food friday's says it's struggling to keep people fed. >> every little bit helps neighbors dropping off food donations. corporations offering cash, volunteers giving their and a dedicated

committed to fighting hunger in vallejo. it's really the community driving this and and supporting it. that makes it happened. mary and dogs and her husband, benjamin co-founded faith, food friday's in 2011. >> the non-profit accepts donation drop-offs and offers volunteer opportunities. 7 days a week at its pantry on salon away. it hosts food, distributions 3 times a week giving out at least 10,000 pounds of food. on those days, we would never in our entire history. you run out of food after distribution. and we've done that consistently for the last 4 months it has been a struggle lately. keeping the refrigerators school and even the lights turned because donations all around are down. despite the demand for services jumping at least 50% since the start of the pandemic, monetarily and food supplies. plus, we a lot of

your exposure to trees and pollen, can try your best. we've got flowers popping up everywhere. after all, the rain. we got conference. chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here with more on the forecast. hey lauren. yeah, these last 2 rain season. he's been fantastic with everything a blooming outside. that's for sure. >> of course we started with those trees begin to bloom in february. all the pollen from trees causing some issues. now it's the grass pollens that are on the rise and well, i don't have good news in that forecast. as we've got major bloom going on with all the grasses around the bay area. so here's the forecast over the next 5 days for grass pollens and there you go. you see it. go right up through the weekend. how about that running high as we get into sunday monday, tuesday and wednesday of next week. a lot of that flow of pollen blown around in the winds too. and as that wind switches direction, that for a lot of folks get caught. if you get an offshore wind, something, get some of those winds bringing some grass pollens back into the bay where folks are used to it and vice versa outside. right now we see an onshore wind and that is carrying with it. some low clouds and some fog cool out toward the coastline right

now. and the winds blowing to 27 miles an hour in the san francisco's a little gusty in spots. we're going to see that when kerry that fog again inside the bay, not going to as extensive cloud cover overnight tonight, although we could still see some patchy drizzle, especially along the coastline over the weekend, high pressure is going to weaken just a little bit. there's a cold for this. going to drop over the top of it. so i'm not going to be a hot weekend, but it will warm to mild out there as we're going to see the temperatures take a little bit of a hit. but in the high country watch out for some thunderstorms, especially south the great lake tahoe area. but tonight, clouds begin to move in a little more patchy as we head through tomorrow morning. that will break up. so by the time we get toward tomorrow afternoon, mostly sunny skies except right along the coastline. still that patchy fog out of the beach i was driving earlier today and the amount of colors that i was seeing just from the puppies. and yeah, all the different purple flowers and everything. it's while it is amazing to have that super bloom along the coastline. again, pacifica saw that. i mean, that's just amazing. seeing everything growing up there right now. great time to take a hike.
