highway. 24 right there. and you can see that sun really out in full force of about we are still seeing some fog up in areas like santa rosa. little bit of low gray over san jose. but quickly clearing in the south bay. now now winds from the coastline are moderating temps this morning. but there are a little calmer than yesterday. hey, good news for allergy suffers and we will see temperatures rising with a little less impact from that cool ocean air concord. you're at 57 degrees right now. berkeley and san francisco at 52 later today. it will be 70's 80's for most of us, right? all right, john, thank you for that. well, we've been actively tracking this overturned big rig. this is at 80 westbound at that west grand off-ramp. just as you approach in the bay bridge this morning, the big rig was originally overturned. the got that back up, right? but it's still on the highway and that off-ramp right here on your screen that still shut down. so people aren't able to take the westbound side to get off. it hasn't been impacting traffic flowing into the city this morning that all people

still the making. really good time at 22 minute ride here at 8 o'clock. about 30 minutes on the san mateo bridge, a richmond center fell bridge somewhere around 16 checking on. 24 as it looks like we have some construction on the eastbound side here in orinda stevens boulevard. things are a really slow on the eastbound side. the westbound side. if you're hopping on that about 20 minutes, walnut creek down to 5 a car. james, back to you. thanks. a lot do won and our top story, the date is now set for the recall election of alameda county district attorney pamela price. turns out voters will decide the issue on the november general election ballot. >> kron four's will tran live in alameda county with more on the story. will. >> it's an early win for a price. obviously she didn't want to be recalled at all, but they collected the necessary 75,000 signatures. so it was a matter of when the election will happen. and they found out late last night. so take a look at your screen. here is the meeting from last

night. so many people turned out to the alameda county board of supervisors, some demanding that they have a special election as early as august. maybe september, a stand-alone election with only one question whether or not price holds on to her job. many others are hoping general election november 5th, where more people turn out, especially this being a presidential year. as far as who's going to be president, more people turning out is better news for price and her supporters detractors, the people who want her recall, they believe that she is soft on crime and soft on suspects in a fake one extra day is one extra day too long for her to remain in office. here are both sides of the issue. >> da price won her election fairly. it should be allowed to serve her entire term. this recall is ridiculous. so many businesses that are closing down because they are the da

is not prosecuting. these criminals says the selective recall election. >> has violated the county charter. it is actually illegal and undemocratic. all we want is justice. accountability for the citizens. alameda county. >> and the people who want her recall believe that she is not properly charging suspects whenever they commit a crime and are arrested. ultimately, james it came down to timing and money. timing meeting the board of sumervisors. they did not believe that they could turn around as quickly as august to have a special election and money. huge gap. a special election would cost as much as 20 million dollars placing this on the general election would be around 4 million dollars and that 16 million dollars gap is needed for a very cash strapped. alameda county price will make comments at 10 o'clock this morning. >> okay. we'll see what she has to say. thank you very much. well, and we want to

show you another story that's new this morning. right now, the teachers in the south bay who are rallying, they want better pay. meantime, they are bargaining with the district another at the bargaining table as we speak or at least soon kron four's will tran. i should say michael thomas is standing by with more on that story in los gatos. thomas? yeah. haha. >> hey, good morning, everyone. we are here in los gatos high school. now. this is also happening over at saratoga high school. take a look behind me. you can see dozens of teachers out here this morning rallying asking for better tate can see their signs reading no more delay. give us higher pay. i shouldn't have to work 2 jobs to support my family. according to teachers, they say many of the teachers are some of the lowest paid in the entire county, adding that most of them actually have 2 jobs just to keep food on the table. right now, they're asking for higher pay from the district. they're also asking for smaller class sizes when it comes to a specialty classes and you can see their signs again reading to support

our speak with a few of them earlier who tell me they're heading to the bargaining table and essentially they do want better pay and they hope that no strike eventually come from that man. can i ask you, how long have you taught in this district 30 years and what are your thoughts? you guys are just asking for exactly what i'm trying to make a living. so that are younger teachers, especially can live in this area. >> keeping our slice of the pie that the district perfect. thank you. and in addition to that, you know, one of the representatives who's at the bargaining table also told that they are trying to retain teachers in one of the biggest issues that they're having right now. >> as retaining teachers saying that as they're interviawing here, they're interviewing with other districts. and at that point, they're getting basically outbid for that. so you can see here there's dozens here and we'll continue to show you down that line before we send it back to you in the studio. and it's also happening over at it very latest here in gatos. >> i'm michael thomas will send it back to live in the studio. all right, michael,

thank you. >> 806, right now. and in the north bay, a man was shot. he was found dead in marquette avenue in vallejo. the police actually responded. he already been shot there. he was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries. the department is releasing his identity at this point and they're still investigating no word on the shooter. on the peninsula. a motorist was killed in this crash that happened on southbound to 80 near redwood city last night. we're showing you where a hyundai and a pickup truck crashed into each other. it was near the edgewood road off-ramp and one person was killed. >> on the peninsula, san mateo county man now in jail accused of having with a child younger that 14 redwood city police say they arrested 19 year-old the andre gomes on we will yesterday in east palo alto. officers say the incident happened in redwood city. they're now investigating to see if there are any other victims out there. in the south bay. san jose police are

asking for your help now in locating a suspected a assault suspect. 50 year-old julian martinez is accused of pulling a young girl under a freeway overpass and sexually assaulting her back in april, investigators say he was riding a dark colored bicycle. girl managed to fight off martinez who then took off on a bike. these are the photos. if you recognize and know where he is, call police. >> the u.s. citizenship and immigration services are opening an office today in oakland. it's located on clay street. it's temporary as the office in san francisco wanting to increase the capacity to hold asylum interviews. so the agency is urging you if you're an applicant, double checked where you're being interviewed because you could get a notice to attend in san francisco war at the new oakland location. fremont police are investigating. several vehicles were vandalized and a tesla factory in fremont yesterday this is where it happened. he was their parked

cars and they had their vehicles in their tires damage. so they're looking for what happened there. >> we'll take a look at video here that went viral on tiktok showing charging cables cut at a tesla charging station in vallejo. the thieves are believed to have targeted these stations to get the copper from inside the cables. all of those stations have since been repaired. the kron 4, sarah stinson has a chance to speak with the man who posted the video. >> all the charging josh, back clear posted this now viral tiktok showing tesla charging cables slashed in stolen from multiple charging stalls on sunday. this happening at a tesla supercharger station in vallejo. >> behind the target on admiral callaghan lane. and i noticed that only at. >> couple other tesla charging stations had not been cut. >> after looking at one of the cut cables, becker says he knew exactly what happened and the suns have a little copper poor so i catch it spent 17

years investigating these kinds of crime we would find generators in the back of big box retailers stripped of their copper right now. copper sells for $3, a pound on average and you get up to around 10 to 12 miles. and you're looking to push n% probably 100 pounds. >> tesla quickly replace the charging cables on monday. >> but 8 stalls remained offline until tuesday night at 7 o'clock. i'm glad didn't take all of the copper cause. >> i actually was pretty low right now. i had like outlets. so that would be pretty bad as that some push. and i hope it doesn't happen again. clears tiktok got nearly 1 million views in just 48 hours. he says while it's angered a lot of people, he wants everyone to know that stealing copper is not a fast track to cash. you really had to work hard and then. >> take it to a, you know, recycling center. god knows how far down the road strip it just a symptom of.

level yet, but definitely warmer than you had been. now the marine layer that we do have this morning is a little bit thinner. this very shallow marine layer is going to burn off very quickly. and along with that comes a subtle boost in temperatures. it's not much warmer than yesterday, but we will technically be the warmest of the week today. net for inland areas will make it kind of a hot one. you can see all that sunshine. we have 4, the vast majority of the bay area this afternoon. little bit of fog hugging the coastline. sea breeze does get a little bit more fog in coming tomorrow morning. now today's daytime highs are going to be solidly in the 60's for the city as well as at the coastline and temperatures along the bay shore, mostly in the 70's today. some of us along the bay getting pretty warm, redwood city in mountain view up to 79 south bay. temperatures in the low 80's today. very similar to yesterday, livermore dublin pleasanton back in the eighties today with oakland seeing 70 after your past few days of 60's mention that 89 up in vacaville, our warm spot

in the bay area today, santa rosa at 81. tomorrow's temperatures similar to today's likely not quite as hot for inland spots and we'll see temperatures dipping just a couple of degrees this weekend. like i said, no major changes. but most of us this weekend will be hanging out in the 70's instead of 80's rania. all right, john, thank you for that. we're seeing uptick of traffic along the eastbound side of 24 in orinda actually seen. >> some reports of more traffic there. you typically don't see that especially around this time. and it looks like they have some construction going on right near stevenson's road. and back of its along eastbound. 24, even 13. so folks are just pretty much struck there. was there doing some construction on the highway. so if you are going to be traveling that route on the eastbound side of 24, now they've got some issues there. also this off ramp along west grand avenue year. just as you approach the bay bridge westbound side still close and early morning overturned. big rig. the audit up right now. they just need

tow that out of the way, not impacting any traffic traveling into the city this morning. so we're still at like 17 minutes there, 30 minutes over the senate to bridge late 80's. a little sluggish 101 looking at you almost 60 minutes there. 54 85 to menlo park. 82 to 80 might be some good options. we're checking on 6.80, things are busy there as well. doubling down to fremont about 30 minutes to make that ride during times. back to you. thanks a lot for your money this morning. inflation has eased a little bit of the labor department just released the consumer price index for april. and shows inflation climbed to 3.4% overall compared to a year ago. but it's down a 10th of point. a point from march that slight decline in april is encouraging for the economy since inflation is on the rise for the 3 months prior to this and the data. now this morning also show's core inflation which is more closely watched by the fed rose 3.6% in april. that is down 2 tenths of a point from march while streets now going to be watching to

see whether that's enough for the fed and whether or they're going to do another interest rate cut. >> well, the irs is warning people now about falling for tax preparers who claim they can help you get some extra cash on your refund. you could face trouble for filing a fake tax return. the irs is warning americans not to fall for tax scam was telling you that they can use the tact, the fuel tax or sick and family leave or household employment tax credits when you don't really qualify for those and some taxpayers are also falsely claiming fictional household employees in order to earn more credits. >> in the east bay, a group of city workers and union leaders have rallied at oakland city hall tuesday to demand answers to the allegations that the city failed to collect millions of taxes from businesses ioaand. >> officials estimate that nearly 35 million unpaid buins taxes are still outstanding with some businesses failing to file their taxes altogether. union leaders and workers areskg now for more transparency and a better system when it comes

to collecting taxes in the city of oakland. >> time now is 8. 19 lawmakers in the capital are hoping to hold social media couples companies accountable. there's a new set of bills that are aimed at protecting children. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has details. i'm >> i'm outraged that's why we're going hard here. los angeles democratic senator henry stern sharing frustration with social media companies, he says have not done their part to protect children and teenagers online. it's nime. >> these large corporations. have plenty of resources to do so step up. but he says he does not have faith in many social media companies and protecting minors online. that's why he introduced 2 bipartisan bills, including sb 14. 44 also known sami's law named for the late sammy chapman. the 16 year-old teen died 3 years ago after taking a pill he bought from a drug dealer on snapchat. that pill

turned out to be laced with the deadly dose of fentanyl and the names. my son, let's save some lives with this legislation. sammy's father sam came to the capitol to urge support for sammy's law. it would allow parents to be involved in their kids online presence by bringing in third-party safety apps designed to monitor online activity. those apps will then notify parents upon finding dangerous content and potential harms online such bullying or drug deals. what i hope for is that sammy's legacy is a legacy of saving other people. >> and that other people won't have to go through what his brother and his mother and myself had to suffer. but major tech companies are opposed in a statement tech net, a network of tech industry executives said safety is the number one priority for platforms adding third-party apps could pose issues quote, at a minimum, a 3rd party should not be able to unwind the many settings features parental controls policies. >> and protections. platforms have created to ensure a safe environment for teen users.

but stern and his colleagues say they will keep fighting, not just for sammy's law, but also for sb 15, 0, 4, a bill they argue will take on the issue of cyber bullying. the bill would require platforms to have a clear cyber bulling reporting button and provide written confirmation within 36 hours after a user has formally reported a cyber bullying incident, the platform is then make a written determination about its findings within 10 days if they fail to do so. platforms could face a $75,000 daily penalty per violation users could also file legal action if platforms failed to respond. technet said the proposed penalties for violations are unduly burdensome, but bipartisan lawmakers who spoke here disagree. it is dangerous out there. it's imperative that we do our part as legislators to ensure that we have safety. we need to do more. >> just a start. and we want to make sure that we protect our children. >> and the bills are set to go before the senate appropriations committee later

troubles. this was a boeing 7.87 aircraft. officials say it had more than 200 people on board at the time. they all deplaned safely. they're going to get rebooked onto a different flight later today. but this is the latest in a series of incidents related to united airlines aircraft that have involved sfo. in other headlines, surveillance video captures the terrifying moment now that the nose of a delta airplane burst into flames. you see it there happened last night after flight 604, landed at sea-tac airport in seattle. it was coming there from cancun, mexico. the aircraft was carrying 189 passengers that had 2 pilots and 4 flight attendants. everybody made it off the plane safely. but investigators say was the electrical cord that was plugged into the plane that shorted out and started that fire. >> a new study says that abortions are increasing across the was done by uc san francisco. and the researchers say this is happening despite the fact that the u.s. supreme

court decided to overturn roe v wade recently a 2022, they say in 2023, there were 86,000 abortions per month in the u.s. which is 4,000 more per month than the year before the increase took place, even as 14 states have total abortion bans. the study says the increase is due to telehealth consultations where patients talk to doctors and other states women can get abortion pills to providers in states protected by shield laws. the sect timmy's among younger men are on the rise. and that's also notice after roe v wade was overturned, university of utah researchers found the percentage of vasectomies patients under the age of 30. >> rose from by about 7.10, it's 10% now is 6%. >> and those rates are consistently higher in states considered hostile towards abortion in california. state leaders have promised to protect abortion rights here. vasectomies went up from 7 to

be a slightly warmer one today, marine layer very shallow today. so it's burning up very quick. your view outside from san francisco is actually showing a couple of peeks at least brighter skies there in the distance. we are going to be seeing visibility holding up just fine for most areas. the remainder of the day and our winds from the coastline a little bit lighter than yesterday. that means less ocean influence and temperatures have that chance to rise a little further. currently hanging out in the 50's for most areas. couple spots further inland like vacaville rising into the 60's. now later on today, it will be 70's to 80's for daytime highs tomorrow, much the same. and then a subtle weekend. cooldown. i'll get to all that. your full forecast, rain and all rise up. even that it was grand avenue off-ramp still close. it's been closed for. >> most of the morning because of that overturned big rig. hey, they've got that up, right? so hopefully within next hour or so. but when they get off of the highway and that could be reopened again. okay. a 15 minute ride into

the city is not really impacting any the traffic flow going into the city this morning around. 24 minutes on our san mateo ridge, riches, sarah ridge just short of 13. hey, 24 been really busy. the eastbound side near stevens avenue looks like they're doing some construction. and because of that, things are slowing down there. they've got some lanes close. look at that backup all the way to 13. if the eastbound side of a 24 is your commute right now, you're pretty much stuck in traffic would not take the highways with certainly take service streets. and a 33 minute ride across the golden gate bridge. the fog that's slowing us down. darya. james, back to you. all right. thanks a lot, rhonda, to 31. we want to take a closer look now at where the protest and so that of them happening at bay area college campuses. yeah. at this 0, 3 weeks have gone by especially at that in camp and at u c berkeley. it actually ended on tuesday. but for weeks. >> cameras have been popping up there and everywhere else around the country to assume is demanding that their universities cut ties with the israeli government to other

universities set their deadlines for the students and other protesters to clear up their camps. deadlines as of yesterday. here's what's left of the cal encampment, as you can see here, students have been there like jameson for about 3 weeks outside of sproul plaza. >> and now the chancellor has sent a letter out yesterday saying that the school leaders and the demonstrators have made an agreement and that includes the university creating a committee to look closer at the investments that they have with israel. they say they will not be able to fully divest from those investments, but they're going to look specifically into any a weapons manufacturing our surveillance industries. yeah, i mean, time student protesters at san francisco state also reached an agreement with their administration. >> after more than 2 weeks of demonstrating, the group announced the school's president and other leaders have committed to divesting from weapons manufacturers and to create a work force to develop new screenings for

future investments. the students protesters scheduled a press conference for this afternoon to discuss the matter. so we'll see what they have to say then. and the south bay at san jose state. >> the school gave the protesters until 6 o'clock last night to clear out their encampment. but as kron four's moment reports they have no plans to leave. >> what started as daytime sitting senator state's campus is now a 24 7 encampment. >> because i understand that our campus is very silent and complicit with not only genocide, but also as 9 >> around 70 protesters asking the university to abide by their demands. professor of justice studies saying kill is the advise it for some of the students here. the students in solidarity each other decided to launch a popular university for gaza. and another point of contention is tony smith, the 1960, at olympia who famously raised his fist and the support of human rights posted an instagram, his support for

the protesters said as a state on the other hand, says they for the opposite from smith and the other and libyan bear. john carlos, i do think that makes the administration a little bit nervous about this encampment, even existing so close to graduation. meantime, back on campus, the deadline to move out has passed. no police and no forcing out saying kill says she wants to keep advocating for her students. so that's why i risk my own skin in order to protect their right to free speech and academic freedom to speak out against genocide. now officials with san jose state tell me that many of the students and of violating the student code of conduct what that punishment may look like remains to be seen with the administration telling me we're just so close to graduation. >> reporting in san jose, jackie moment kron 4 that san jose here in san francisco, students at ucsf were also given a deadline of 03:00pm yesterday. >> school leaders saying they needed to leave their encampments or face consequences. and just like in san jose state, these

demonstrators decided instead to hold a rally. now we know that the school's graduation is still set for saturday. the students say they're prepared to stay at their encampment beyond graduation if their demands aren't met. >> says the suspension or explosion. so you are at risk of being suspended or expelled. and we just think that's a scare tactic. we think that we understand that we have so much power as a collective of what we did here. >> either encampment has been really unifying for all of us. >> you know, the university has been in talks with these protesters. they say they've been working to keep the dialogue open. in a statement, and or involve law enforcement so long as the demonstrators remained peaceful and nonviolent. >> yeah. >> there's a shop or just finding out in san francisco that the high end jewelry store, shreve and company is moving. they just announced

they're going to be moving their headquarters to palo alto. and with news of that real estate experts already say other businesses are ready to take their spot in union square. >> we're actually in advanced negotiations with the local tenant to take the entire ground floor and potentially the mezzanine as well for a very special concept. the store is going to have a big sale starting friday. they say they're going to be discounts on jewelry and watches up to 60% off. >> american eagle outfitters is out of the san francisco center. they're going to be. >> leaving the san francisco center, which as we know is closing anyway and september of last year, american eagle actually sued westfield for breach of lease agreement and overall safe work conditions after westfield announced it was leaving the downtown mall. and since then, several other well-known retailers said they're out to nordstrom, lego and hollister. all decided to leave the san francisco center. american eagles last day that it will be open is june 12.

>> in the east bay, a 22 year-old hayward man riding a scooter died in a fatal collision with a car. it happened near the intersection of mission boulevard and orchard avenue last wednesday when officials arrived, they found the scooter ryder unresponsive, suffering from injuries, injuries that that person later died from at the hospital. the driver didn't suffer any injuries that person was fined. police say drugs or alcohol at this point are not believed to factors in this crash, but this is the city's 4th fatal collision this year. well, health workers and community groups now demanding san francisco do more to prevent overdose deaths. and that includes the argument that the problem is only be made worse. >> when they face incarceration, kron four's catherine heenan has more. >> members of the group carried signs that said things like care, not cages in dealing with addicts. they argue against what they call car several measures and other words, jail or prison time in
