ultimatum today clear their tent encampment or face repercussions. thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 5. i'm noelle bellow and i'm grant lotus. the deadline was 03:00pm. instead of leaving, they held a rally at the encampment today in kron four's rob nesbitt. >> was at that rally joins us now live from usf with details. rob, where things stand now. >> well, grande on welsh field here on the usf campus where students have set up their tent encampment behind the counter and about 60 tense here at welsh field with students occupying them and they say they don't plan on going anywhere. despite warnings from the university. >> for 15 days, students at usf have called for a cease-fire in gaza for the university to divest from israel. protesters likes to sue state. staying in tents on welsh field. but i really didn't realize until you start

to sink him is how much it puts a toll on your body. the university has been in talks with protesters and says they've been working to keep an open dialogue, but protesters were given until 03:00pm tuesday to clear their tent encampment. a statement from usf saying, quote, the 03:00pm may 14th deadline in which we asked students to voluntarily vacate welsh field in exchange for amnesty. refers to an internal disciplinary process led by the u.s. at office of student conduct. there are no plans to clear the encampment or involve law enforcement as long as the encampment is peaceful and nonviolent based says the suspension or explosion. so you are at risk of being suspended or expelled. >> and we just think that's a scare tactic. we think that we understand that we have so much power as a collective of what we did here. >> either encampment has been really unifying for all of >> instead of clearing the encampment at 03:00pm, students pushed back staying on welsh field and holding a rally with speakers including

seth morrison from the bay area chapter of jewish voices for peace. old enough to have protested and seeing how that protest was the start of change. i believe that these protest will be the start of kate for palestinian. haha. >> usf commencement ceremony is scheduled for saturday and student protesters here say they are prepared to stay at the tent encampment even after graduation. if their demands are still not reporting live at usf, i'm rob nesbitt. kron. 4 news doesn't look like they're going anywhere anytime soon. rob. >> thank you for that live report. meantime, in the south bay, students at san jose state have been given a deadline of 6 o'clock this evening. >> to clear an encampment on that campus students began occupying last night just days before the start of finals week. the 20 tent encampment sprung up near the statues of 2 san jose state athletes. tommie smith and john carlos, whose demonstration at the

1968 olympics drew global attention the students have a list of demands for the university. but officials want that encampment gone in about an hour from now. we're going have a live report from campus coming up on kron. 4 news at 6. >> hundreds of protesters gathered on the sidewalks outside google this morning that chose to be there this week because google's hosting a developer conference with thousands of people in attendance at the nearby shoreline amphitheater. protesters did block one of the entrances to the event, but people attending were able to get in other ways, the protesters are especially worried about project nimbus cloud computing effort by the israeli government in partnership with google and amazon. >> the message that we're kind sent here is when the innovations and the potentially beautifully impactful, things that are great, silicon valley are to harm people. that's not ok. we will not

>> kron 4 reached out to google for comment about this. but so far we have not heard back. meanwhile, 50 former google employees filed an official complaint against the company for unlawful termination. that's after the employees held sit-in protests. it google offices in sunnyvale in new york not long ago. the company that fired them after finding out which employees participated. the workers filed a complaint saying google unlawfully retaliated against them. the protesters say they want their jobs back and google to allow workers to protest without retaliating. keep it here with kron 4 on air and online for the latest information on the conflict in the middle east from campus, protests to the conflict on the ground, the hostages you can head to our web site kron 4 dot com. >> alameda county supervisors are meeting at this hour to determine when a recall election will be held for district attorney pamela price

on april. 30th, the board accepted the registrar of voters determination that enough signatures have been gathered to force a recall kron four's dan kerman joining live from the meeting in oakland tonight with more details. dan. >> well, that meeting is going on right now right behind me here at the board of supervisors meeting public comment is just started about 64. people are going to be speaking about this is, you know, pamela price's said that the petition gathering process violated the charter and this is all illegal. still, supervisors are moving forward. they ask a lot of questions today. again of the county council in terms of what this all means. but it means is that price is recalled. it will be up to the board of supervisors to appoint somebody to take her prior to this meeting. those who have campion the recall hold a news conference just outside this meeting to talk about what they are looking for at today's this is a time we need to do to special

election. and this is time to we caught the d 8. we're asking for them to, you know, account for the will of the people that have already stepped in say they want a special election. now. >> but if they don't, i it will be ready for november, but we really wanted to be in august. now. these are the potential dates for an election either the board of supervisors. can your mark a special election? >> that because somewhere in the area of 15 to 20 million dollars, they say that would be an august various state you see in front of you or in september or they can consolidate this and hold this recall election during the regular general election. that would be some time in november, specifically on november 5th, while the other elections are going on, they say that would only cost the county about 4 million dollars. no indication from the supervisors at this point which one they will opt for. as we mentioned, public comment is just getting undeo way now. it's expected to last somewhere in the area of 2 hours and that then at that

point, supervisors will discuss what to do next. we should mention that, as i said at the outset, that pamela price has called this recall illegal because she maintains that the charter was violated in the signature gathering process. but again, so far, no court has ruled on that because nobody has filed a lawsuit live at the board of supervisors meeting in oakland, dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> dan, thank you. the 5 year-old boy who drowned bethel island saturday has been identified. he is lucas yang from livermore. lucas was found in the water about 40 minutes after being reported missing. he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to a neighbor, the boy was visiting family at a housing complex near the water when he fell off the dock near the back of the home. no other details about the circumstances of the drowning have been made available at this time. >> san jose police are asking for the public's help locating a assault suspect. 50 year-old julian salvador, martinez is

accused of pulling a young girl under a freeway overpass and sexually assaulting her on april. 9th investigators say he was riding a dark colored bicycle at the time. the girl managed to fight him off and fled on her bicycle. martinez is described as 5 foot 11 inches tall with dark hair and a thin mustache. you can see some images of him there on your screen. if you have any information of his whereabouts, you are asked to contact san jose pd. >> a united airlines flight out of singapore bound for san francisco was forced to return to singapore today due to engine troubles. the airplane, a boeing 7.87 had more than 200 people on board at the time. they will be rebooked tomorrow on another flight. this is just the latest in a series of incidents related to united, many of which have involved sfo. as we look live at the airport there, you can

see some fog is above it. now we come to san francisco, the city proper where you don't see any fog and that is the way it goes around here. we're quite an interesting pattern where we have kind of foggy cool mornings and then really nice in the afternoon. and now. >> around this time of day, that fog is returning warrants. yeah. start to feel like a whole lot like summer outside as we're seeing that night morning, a march of the low clouds and the fog then retreating back to the coastline as we head into next day, the middle of day. >> breaking out that sunshine. i think we'll see it again overnight tonight. we'll see plenty of clouds around the bay area and some of that patchy fog thick enough. maybe a little drizzle along the coastline over san francisco. right now. you've got some breezy conditions, some patchy fog toward the sunset. some sunshine as you make way downtown san francisco and toward the ballpark. but you see the winds kind of kicking around the trees just a bit outside more that all the way the temperatures. well, that's where you get that big spread. you'll see that throughout the summer months. you've got 62 degrees in san francisco, 60 in oakland, then heat things

up in the san jose. 73. by the time you make your way to the east bay, you're talking 80 degrees in livermore, 78 in concord and 73 now in santa rosa. so there it is. low clouds and the fog retreating toward the coastline as we head toward the middle of the day and then kind of back on shore. thunderstorms popping up over the sierra nevada could have to watch out for that really south of tahoe. but you can see that fog already getting ready to move back on shore. we'll have more on that forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> we have the golden state's >> of of the bay area getting high does the golden state warriors franchise unveils the brand name for our new wnba team today. as you heard the mayor calling them the golden state. val curry's the name originating from norse mythology valkyrie czar, a host of warrior women who are fearless and unwavering. >> you know, as we sat, would that mean and thought through what that means to the visible

are investigating after several tesla's were vandalized at the fremont tesla factory. they say workers found multiple cars with slashed tires early monday morning. police are now looking into a motive and a suspect in this crime. tesla is also laying off more employees in the bay area in total, more than 600 employees will be laid off. the layoffs affect employees at multiple locations and fremont and palo alto. this comes after tesla announced last month it would be laying off 2700 bay area employees. all of the layoffs take effect in the middle of june. the national highway traffic safety administration has launched an investigation into waymo self-driving cars. the agency. >> got 22 reports of waymo cars either crashing or doing something that may have violated traffic laws. the probe will look at the system's performance in detecting and responding to traffic control devices. labor leaders say they plan to work

with the agency during the probe. amazon's self-driving robotaxi unit is also being investigated after 2 of its vehicles. braked suddenly causing crashes. both crashes happened last month. one in san francisco, the other in spring valley, nevada. there were no major injuries. fortunately, they both involved toyota highlander suvs with autonomous driving technology. nhtsa confirmed each of the amazon vehicles was operating in autonomous mode at the time. they say they're committed to working with the agency. >> and iconic jewelry store in san francisco is pulling out. sure. even company has been operating in the city for 172 years. and it's all coming to an end with a large sale in the works. kron four's terisa stasio explains the reason behind the shutdown and what happens next. >> the closed sign taped to the door says it all, although

is moved in with a vengeance. you can just see the bottoms of i guess, maybe just the south tower there. the fog's crazy. yeah. >> it's such a different look than what we just saw on. embarcadero earlier in the show lawrence, this year, of course, seems to be what going to be dealing with. yeah, you know, big may laugh, but it's actually one of the hardest things in the world. a forecast of micro having to do with so much of the topography around the bay area. the pressure difference is up above and. >> well, it can cause all kinds of havoc forecast. that's for sure. the door tonight feel pretty good. that fog is starting march back on shore. we'll see that in place overnight tonight and tomorrow morning looking very much like a summer like pattern kind of settling into the bay area for the weekend ahead. you can from mount tam the fingers of fog kind of stretching into the bay right now that will be filling in overnight tonight with a sea breeze that breeze already blown out there right now. we've got some 18, 20 mile an hour. showed up around the bay area so far and we could see more of that on the

way now, eventually carry that fall all the way. the interior valleys overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning. and it's just that the bay area really this fog make across much of the california coastline all the way down. los angeles point conception. you name it. and of course, we've got some activity in the sierra nevada. numerous thunderstorms popping up across the high country. that's something you have to watch out for this week. if you're planning to do some camping or get some nice weather now we're seeing kind of a line of storms that are of low pressure. backed up here and that's going bring with it a chance, more thunderstorms in the afternoon hours in the sierra nevada, mainly south of lake tahoe back toward the bay area. see the little swirl off the coastline. that' another thing that we see this time of year is come a little edie, get a little circulation off the coastline. little swirl in the atmosphere with the fog and once that rolls back on shore, boyden gray in a hurry. not only that republicans see a pretty deep marine layer overnight tonight. so not only is going to be great, maybe a little bit wet out there along the coastline. watch out for that little drizzle overnight tonight. so, yeah, that fog kind of settling in something that we're going to see a whole lot of in the 45 months or so, guys, i like the term
