this is home. 11. >> the top of steps of the church looking out and all of us and i go, oh, my >> now at 11, a church service ends with a stabbing in san francisco. the latest on the victim and the suspect. good evening and thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 11. i'm dan thorn, san francisco's north beach neighborhood shaken up this afternoon by a stabbing outside of an iconic church. witnesses say the victim was attending a service at saints. peter and paul catholic church when he was attacked by a knife wielding man kron four's. sara stinson reports. >> a scary sunday in san francisco's north beach. a person stabbed in front of the iconic saints. peter and paul catholic church during service. video from the citizen app shows emergency crews rushing to help the victim kron. 4 confirmed the man is a churchgoer. someone who works at saints. peter and paul says a homeless man was

disrupting the sunday service. and when asked to leave, he got physical and the homeless man then pulled out a knife and a parishioner outside the church. i saw him. >> this guy being pinned down. and that's when we heard he got stabbed. so top of steps of the looking out and all of us and i go, oh, my the frightening scene played out on filbert street around one in the afternoon. the victim was later taken to the hospital that we're just going just pray and see what happens. police say they arrested a man who witnesses identified as the attacker. >> the church worker says it scares them to know that the man was armed while inside the church. we didn't know we had a knife. he could have done something this happened in supervisor. aaron peskin is district reached out to me, says he's aware of the stabbing. >> and he's in contact with police. he also tells me the victim is recovering and expected to be okay. i'm sara

stinson reporting in north beach. back to you. >> new video tonight shows a person attacking a waymo driverless car in san francisco. the video captured in the area of market and dolores streets last night shows a person kicking in the windshield. well, standing on the car's hood, the person is then seen sitting down on that smashed in windshield. it's unclear why this person did this. but we have reached out to sfpd and waymo for information or comment and so far have not heard back. and this is now the second time has been trashed here and the city, a 14 year-old is now being charged for setting this waymo on fire back in february police say a crowd spray greeting sprayed graffiti on the driverless car, broke a window and then threw fireworks inside of it. there were no passengers inside at the time and no one was hurt.

a street takeover and oakland ends with a motorcyclist injured. oakland police say they were taken to a hospital after colliding with a car motorbikes taking over bellevue and grand avenues little after 1 o'clock this afternoon during the investigation, several dirt bikes drove to the area causing a safety hazard to everyone on the scene, 50 more bikes were seen circling the lake, some riding on the sidewalk, even driving in the opposite direction of traffic. a shooting along oakland's hegenberger corridor sense a person in the hospital this afternoon. police were called to the area near raising canes. and the now closed in and out to investigate reports of a shooting that happened before too. this is video from the scene from the citizen app. police say they found evidence of a shooting but could not find anyone who may have been involved a short time later, a call came in from the hospital, notifying police that a person had been shot and then took themselves there. their injuries are said

to be non-life threatening. investigation is still active. police are investigating an apparent murder suicide after a woman and a man were found shot in hayward. police say they found the 2 and a parked car on whitney avenue last night. the 31 year-old woman was shot to death in the passenger seat. the 36 year-old man was found with a gunshot wound in the driver's seat. he was taken to hospital where he later died. witnesses say they heard the 2 arguing before the gunshots went off. police believe the man shot the woman before shooting himself. their identities have not been released. new at 11 law enforcement agencies around the bay area say they are mourning the loss of a former colleague tonight. deputy tobin bolter was killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop in boise, idaho, before moving to oregon. bolter was a pleasant hill police officer. he was also a cadet at the walnut creek police department and graduated from the contra costa county sheriff's academy

butler was 27 years old. a gray whale was found dead just off the shore of alameda and san francisco bay. and right now, we don't know how it died, but we do know that this is a popular time of year for the whale species to swim up the coast. kron four's jack moment reports. so normally this time of year, gray whales are seen swimming north along the california coast on their way to alaska. now has of these last few years. it's not uncommon to see a gray whale make its way inside san francisco bay. but researchers do tell me it could take some time to determine exactly how that gray whale did die. >> it's a whale that celebrated. i think they're just like magical creatures just could eat, can't get enough of that. it just makes me realize like how small we are as humans and >> how they're dealing with all this. but mori point in pacifica, the mood is somber sad to hear when that happened. a great whale, one of thousands that migrate up

the pacific coast every year won't be completing its journey. it was found dead this weekend. >> up the coast of alameda. and then we received another call this morning, both flannery with the california academy of sciences says she saw the whale's carcass this morning. so far, no signs of a ship strike or being tangled in rope. we will open the whale up. >> we will look inside. it will look for signs of cause of death, whether he gray whales were dying around the world for years. only now. >> has the species started to recover? she says the reason for the whales decline with climate change, reducing the whales, food source and starving them to death. basically they weren't getting enough high quality food in the arctic during their summer feeding season. we don't know yet if that's what killed this gray whale flannery hopes the whale washed up locally and they can study it makes me sad. more whale watchers like an overhaul and half moon bay. >> want to see the whale species be healthy, especially you think a full, the hard work they've done. >> you know, mike waking back from mexico all the way and

cooling down after tomorrow. current temperatures right now still mild as well. mid 50's in san francisco, upper 50's in oakland. 65 degrees in san jose. this 11:00pm hour. it's pretty mild out there. i did a step out. it feels refreshing, a light breeze. you can see we're calm, too. so a nice night out there look out for a few passing clouds as well. and then those temperatures for the overnight lows, upper 40's and mid 50's tomorrow earth day. we have beautiful weather 60's by the look out for some clouds as well. but 70's and 80's mostly sunny for you inland. when i come back, we are at going to be tracking rain once again. i'll have that forecast after after the break. in a few minutes. >> all right, gail, thanks a lot to the north bay were part of highway 37 closed off this weekend is set to open back up tomorrow morning. caltrans says it's repaving the westbound lanes this weekend and next weekend, crews are then going to begin work on

the eastbound lanes. the first 2 weekends of may. they have been encouraging people to use detours. the westbound lanes again are going to reopen tomorrow morning at 4 o'clock. well, today was the final day of the cherry blossom festival in san francisco featuring the grand parade. >> drummers dancers, decorative floats, went down polk and post streets. you can see people lined up along the streets there to get a nice view. there were even some people cost playing as anime and some game characters. >> festival is known. highlighting japanese culture putting food art. and this is the last festival before peace plaza goes under renovations. there was some disruptions today at the parade, though, as protesters for the war in gaza. >> showed up. this is video from the citizen app in the background. you can hear person say that they want the

release of hostages, referring to the israeli hostages still being held by hamas. >> san francisco's infamous public toilet gets a celebration full of party pons and fun. inouye valley, the restroom making headlines after its initial million dollar price tag. but its replacement was significantly less. and today we went out for the first flush dubbed the toilet bowl. >> no, we've alleys town square taken over by a party. the event dubbed the toilet bowl and bracing the controversy around san francisco's now infamous public restroom. this kind of got world. >> famous like bathroom. people like laughing at that. so let's just laugh at ourselves and have some celebration featuring a toiletry. >> use it from the american standard band and bathroom inspired acrobatics. it's so much fun get to celebrate this new bathroom. i think public restrooms are really important. i think we should

have more of them. the public restroom opened up last month after controversy over its initial 1.7 million dollar price tag. but after contributions from multiple companies, the project ended up being around $300,000. some toilet bowl attendees say they're flushed with excitement over the new bathroom. i think it's so wonderful to have a place for people to be able to relieve themselves when necessary. we all need to go and it's nice to have a place to it's just kind ridiculous and ludicrous and hilarious and fabulous all the same time. and of course, there was a line of people waiting to try it out. >> a few giving rave reviews >> 10 out of 10 with me. >> all right. still ahead here at 11 o'clock supreme court justice is going to be hearing arguments on whether the city officials can punish. homeless people for camping in public spaces. that's in oregon.

case on homelessness is scheduled to go before the u.s. supreme court tomorrow. >> and justices will be considering arguments and whether it's illegal for local governments to punish people for sleeping outside when there's no shelter space available, a small rural city in southern oregon called grants pass. it's at the

center of this case. if the supreme court rules in favor of the city officials there could remove encampments of unhoused individuals. they could also soon find ticket or jail. someone for sleeping on the streets. volu teers who help the homeless in grants pass say they are eager to now how the highest court in the land is going to rule. >> i would say i'm this situation is only escalating and we're seeing more and more people on house. and at the same time we're seeing more and more friction and frustration from community members on both sides because we've been paralyzed last 5 years waiting for the court case to be over, i guess. and while we see the problem continually growing, we're not seeing resources being added to it tops apart, making it stop. >> there are an estimated 650,000 people experiencing homelessness in united states. governor newsom is hoping to draw attention to the republican policies that are making it difficult for residents of states with

abortion bans to travel to other states for abortion care. newsom is set to introduce a bill this week to assist women traveling from alabama seeking abortion care. this comes as his administration rolled out a fictional video. ed showing 2 women driving and being pulled over by an officer who demands governor is calling abortion the moral issue for a time. happening tomorrow. opening arguments in the criminal trial of former president donald trump following the statements. witness testimony will begin. the witnesses include. star stormy daniels and mister trump's former lawyer michael cohen. mister trump is charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in an effort to silence 2 women over alleged extramarital affairs during the 2016 presidential election. the former president denies any wrongdoing and has pleaded not guilty. san

francisco mayor london breed is back in the city tonight. the mayor posting this video on social media after her trip to china. she said, quote, we had a remarkable time. our partnership stands as a testament to the power of international cooperating driving innovation and understanding. across continents, reid spent nearly a week there to improve relations and attract more business for san francisco. her visit included a trip on china's high-speed train, strengthening ties with chinese airlines and she announced the return of the giant pandas to the san francisco's it. all right. let's get you a check of the forecast tonight. taking a live look at the financial was real nice. warm one out there today. day-long joining us with a look ahead go. >> and we have another warm day in store for monday tomorrow, which is earth day. so if you're going to get outdoors, it's going to be lovely. pretty warm we'll see more 80's. we saw 80's today and every 70's today. so very similar forecast tomorrow. so

almost a rinse and repeat what you will notice san francisco, you may run into some fog tomorrow morning for your drive around 05:00am looks like visibility will be down to 0. everyone else looks pretty good. and then things do improve at the 09:00am hour. but towards the afternoon, it looks like will be rebuilding some fog over by half moon bay around a 01:00pm. so just keep that in mind. if you're going to be heading to the beaches, may see some cloudy skies. so we have a passing clouds tonight. mild temperatures in the overnights and the last warm day tomorrow. so enjoy that. we'll get to that 4 zone forecast. you can see all the forecast highs tomorrow. we will be cooling down 2 late this week. so high pressure will be moving out after tomorrow, bringing in low-pressure and that will be bringing us a chance of some showers the week. so maybe thursday, friday, we could see some rain, very beneficial rain. so not a whole lot. here are the forecast highs. san francisco. you're looking at low 60's that golden gate park

and the sense that district to 68 degrees in downtown san francisco and the mission district over by the beach is pretty mild day in the 60's and upper 50's and south san francisco, san bruno, upper 60's 70 for you in burlingame, more 70's when you make your way south here. 75 in san carlos and 76 in redwood city, san jose 80's. 82 degrees for you. 83 and santa clara. so you'll notice was you get inland, the usual areas, tri valley, pleasanton and livermore could see some 80's to upper 70's along the east bay shoreline and 70's over by berkeley end low 70's 2 in oakland as well. more upper 70's in napa and sonoma. santa rosa close to 80's there and 50's over by the coast at point raising stinson beach. so look at all the changes we have. so tomorrow we kind of like a roller coaster warm right inland and then down to the 60's and them next looks like we rebound more comfortable like 70's upper
