>> beyond grateful to be here. just such a beautiful day in francisco. i got my best friends here with >> alright, look like some fun there in san francisco. large crowds also gathered in berkeley today to celebrate for 20. this was at memorial glade this afternoon. a lot of people packing in. setting up tents and blankets and hanging out in the sun. good day to soak it up. after all the rainy weekends people had to deal with here in the bay area. we want to keep in mind, though, san francisco police are going to be keeping an eye on people that are out there driving high. >> police are going to be conducting dui checkpoints tonight through tomorrow morning. they're also going to be patrolling sfpd says drivers that are caught impaired can expect all the markings of a dui arrest that includes paying fines and those additional fees and also possibly going to jail. with that. we want to get you a look at your 4 zone forecast

tonight was a really nice one out there today. looks like a dry, nice one out there this evening as well. gayle ong joining us with a look. hey, gayle. >> hello, we are warming up once again. we had a really warm temperatures in the 70's inland. really nice day in berkeley as well. you can see the today's highs. 75 in santa rosa. 76 in napa. as you notice. we're in the 70's as you make your way inland happened. pretty mild at 58 degrees. 62 in san francisco. so very nice day on tap. and we have another warm day tomorrow. temperatures out the door right now. we are pretty mild as well for the evening. 54 in san francisco. 56 in livermore. a 57 in santa rosa. so overnight lows are actually going to be a quite high actually in the upper 40's and low 50's and current wind speeds. we have a bit of a breeze out 21 in san francisco right now, but other than that's pretty refreshing out side. so look out for some mostly clear skies tonight. it looks like that will be the case tomorrow. we'll see less

cloud cover and we have temperatures in the upper 40's and 50's. so the rest of the weekend you can see sunny skies back in the 80's in a inland and then 70's by the bay 60's by the coast. so tuesday, we will start to cool down and this is why we're quiet on satellite and radar. but as i pull back, we are eyeing another chance of rain late next week and a cooling trend. so when i come back, we'll be talking about that in the extended forecast. back to you. >> all right. thanks a lot. in the east bay, oakland, police are investigating after a man was shot and killed. police say they responded to the 99th avenue in east oakland just before 1 o'clock friday afternoon, the victim died at the scene. his identity has not yet been released. anyone with any information is being asked to call oakland police and arrest has been made in a stabbing death in east palo alto. the stabbing happened back in february on bell street and university avenue. investigators released this surveillance video from this

is last month. they believe the people inside the white suv witness. the attack on frank find the finding later died at the hospital. 19 year-old has been arrested and charged in the death. another person was also stabbed that night, but they survived the oakland police department is mourning the loss of one of their own officer. jordan wingate has died from his injuries following a car crash that happened back in 2018 officer wingate was on duty when his patrol cruiser crashed into another car and then into a semi truck. the accident forced him to medically retire and march 2020, the department says that he was a hard worker and was dedicated to helping the community. officer wingate is the 55th oakland police officer killed in the line of duty. investigation is underway after a baby and a dad were attacked in a san francisco muni bus. the father telling police his infant was randomly assaulted by another rider friday morning. the

unknown man then took off from the bus near van essen o'farrell. police say the baby appeared to be okay and they're still searching for a suspect tonight. golden gate ferry service between sausalito and san francisco still suspended damage was discovered at the sausalito peer friday, shutting down the service through at least sunday until the ferry is back up and running again. buses are going to be providing access to get across the golden gate. the ferry service says that they are apologizing for this inconvenience and it's still unclear when the ferry service will resume. in the north a part of highway. 37 is going to be closed this weekend. caltrans says it's repaving the westbound lanes this weekend and next weekend crews are going to then working on the eastbound lanes for the first 2 weekends of may. they're encouraging travelers to please use the detours. >> beginning around 20 to you're going to go right towards napa state route. 29,

where you'll catch. they wrote one. 21 where you make a left to go eastbound to once again keep going and cats. 12 that would take you down to state route. 37, everybody here that is local kind of knows this route as a shortcut. but it's not. it's along the tours that we're expecting. that be from one hour to 2 hours. so we really are asking the public to plan ahead. >> the westbound lanes are expected to reopen again 4 o'clock monday morning. >> there you have it. one last ride for bart's legacy trains. the transit agency hosted a huge ceremony at oaklands macarthur station today sending off the trains for one last run. people were able to write a legacy train for mccarthy to the fremont station which out near the initial service park provided that open september 1972, the

trip lasts around. 45 minutes along 24 miles of the original section of the tracks. 3 legacy cars are headed to the western railway museum in sassoon city. >> they include an iconic sloped front, a car and will be the only cars from the legacy fleet displayed at the museum. the legacy trains make way for new generation. nearly 700 new fleet of the future. train cars are now certified for service. people gathered in san francisco today for the annual cherry blossom festival. thousands packing the streets in japantown the festival highlighting japanese culture local art and food vendors. they also had some psaki end mostly for people to try out. >> there were some cultural performances that were happening there in the street and at peace important to note, this is the last cherry blossom festival before renovations began in the plaza bite. if you missed out today, don't worry. the last day is

people arrested in coma after their getaway car. apparently ran out of gas last sunday coma. police officers were alerted of a black mercedes benz recklessly driving near. sarah boulevard and sarah center caller said the car ran 2 red lights before stopping in the middle of the road. police arrived to find a man or woman walking away from that car. the driver still inside told police that went to go get some gas. officers ran the driver's information and learned that he was a wanted fugitive out of texas police searched the car and

they found ammunition. and there they also found a bunch of stolen clothes and some weird paraphanelia police believe the stolen goods worth about 1400 bucks. we're from to nearby stores on serramonte boulevard. the 2 passengers who went to go get that gas. they also had warrants out for their arrest. all were taken into custody and then they were booked into the san mateo county jail. san francisco police arrest a man for having child at his home. the special victims unit launched an investigation into 43 year-old peter sherman back in january. officials say they have probable cause that he was guilty for having child assault material. police searched his home on thursday. sherman was later arrested and then booked into jail on 3 counts of child. the fire in san jose threatens a nursing home this morning. fire crews responding to the scene on east santa clara north 13th streets. the fire broke out in an abandoned building, but crews were able to stop the spread. a nearby nursing home

can see the temperature change at this time last night, 6 degrees up in santa rosa. 4 degrees up in nevado and about a 5 degrees up in half moon bay. so we will be today was warm. temperatures will rebound back to the 80's. it looks like for inland communities. so tonight, mostly clear with the light, refreshing breeze tomorrow as we're going to be sunny, much warmer and then we have a cooldown on the way and some cloudy and unsettled weather late next week. so these are the overnight lows notice upper 40's. usually we're down to upper 30's, low 40's, but now we're in the low 50's. so that will be a pretty mild morning for you. and daytime highs. here are the temperatures for tomorrow. it looks like 83 in concord, 81 in livermore and 81 in santa rosa 60's along the coast here. usually the coast has been in the 50's this week and then down in the south bay. 81 expected in san jose for the daytime high. so very sunny. it doesn't look like visibility will be an issue that it was an issue last night. and this morning looks

their community. the man who set himself on fire outside of a new york city courthouse where donald trump was on trial has died from his injuries. police say max has a died early this morning at a hospital. witnesses say the florida man through pamphlets laden with conspiracy theories around the area yesterday afternoon before dousing himself an accelerant and setting himself on fire. authorities say there was no apparent breach of security but are considering restricting access to that section during the trial, opening statements set to begin on monday for the former president, the first of 4 criminal trials. this is video from the jury selection in new york. prosecutors claim the former president participated in an illegal hush money scheme ahead of his 2016 campaign to cover up an alleged affair with an adult film star hearing was held yesterday to debate what topics trump could be asked about if he chooses to testify. it includes the

355 million dollar civil fraud, judgment against him for inflating the values of his properties and the e jean carroll, defamation case, the judge said he'll issue a ruling on those by monday. and trump says that he will testify in his own defense. the judge will also hear arguments next week about whether trump violated a gag order. well, earth day is on monday to celebrate the california department of parks and rec is encouraging bay area residents to visit nearby state parks. there's point lobos near monterrey. it is a day use only but plenty of walking trails in place for people to picnic near the water. angel island state park. just very right away. it's the largest natural island in san francisco bay. and you can hike kayaker even camped there and another close by place to go to was, of course, mount tam in marin county. absolutely beautiful place at stinson beach right

there where you hike around and enjoying grab something to eat. and also when there's no fog out there on mount tam, you could look way out and see caroline islands, which is always and eyesight. california volunteers are taking part in a full day of climate action activities in oakland and today, dozens of volunteers helped to remove invasive plants and then replace them with new plants across the state. thousands of california service corps also doing their part in going green for earth month. east bay regional park celebrating earth day by giving back to nature asking you actually join in the park district hosting a handful of drop-in volunteer opportunities across the east bay. again, walk-ins are welcome. opportunities include plant removal beach cleanup, march cleanup and trail maintenance. still to come here at 10 o'clock, why generational farming is getting harder to pass down in the family. plus, more insurance companies leaving

insurance rates continue to rise, companies are leaving california, which is making it harder for homeowners to ensure their home. tokio marine american and transpacific insurance are the latest to pull homeowner in umbrella coverage due to the high costs. the departure from the golden state is set to impact 12,500 policyholders 7 of the 12 largest insurance companies have paused or restricted home policies within the last year. and

allstate paused its home insurance business. back in 2022. to the costs and wildfires. the american tradition of generational farming is fading because of rising costs as well. u.s. farm real estate values and acre over 4,000. that's almost 300 more than 2022. farm experts and owners say farms are not expanding because of the cosn for land fuel and grains. and they say small family farms are increasingly unable to pass down the tradition with family farms and some states dropping just 7%. things get more expensive. coming up here at 10 o'clock. today's for 20. and we're going to take a look at how the phrase was coined right here in the bay area. plus, today the house passed a vote to increase aid to ukraine. how that's going to affect israel as well. >> and when we come back, we hear from unhoused people in san jose looking for more housing options as kron. 4

>> welcome back. san jose's budget must be approved this summer by the council. and a big issue is a budget shortfall by about 50 million dollars. one thing mayor matt mahan says he will prioritize is homeless resources, but some of those resources don't seem like enough for homeless advocates unhoused people, especially as the city is looking at more affordable shelter solutions. kron four's jack moment reports. johnny mendez. let's her girlfriend's and warm day in san jose.

mendez has been homeless for just a couple weeks. she says she works as a security guard pulling in about 1000 bucks a she's been homeless before. but this time. >> she says her hopes are shot. she says she's been rejected for voucher programs. so far we have to get really pragmatic or concern comes amid the city's struggle to fill a 50 million dollar deficit in this year's budget. mayor matt mahan told the community they're going to prioritize homeless resources. you have to experiment with things that we haven't done a lot of in recent years while at the same time focusing on reducing homeless encampments, we're going to have to experiment with safe sleeping sites may or may have says a cheaper option to get people out of an unsanctioned encampment is through illegal. what an example is when you drive down willow street by the 87 and see this encampment may have has proposed moving this one into a sanctioned encampment. there's just way too much red tape. the founder of a cop, a silicon valley and homeless advocate. top clinton says unhoused people he works

with are worried about the summer and what the council will end up approving. but yeah, they're worried about the safe parking the worry about. they don't want to go into congregate shelters or anything that resembles a congregate shelter like in says he hopes san jose will make the possible sanctioned encampments low barrier and allow people to come and go as they please not 2 feet. you that does says she would go to a sanction parking lot. >> and he's just tired of being homeless. >> i >> now all this comes as a recent audit finds that the city of san jose is not doing enough and is not being transparent. but the money that is given to them from the state of california to address its homelessness issues. now the city says this highlights a bigger statewide issue in terms of funding, but it will be up to the city and the counselors to decide how it should fund homeless programs going into this next fiscal

year and downtown san jose. jack molmud kron. 4 news. >> on monday, the supreme court will hear arguments on whether the city of grants pass oregon can punish homeless people for camping in public spaces. a lower court previously ruling in favor of the unhoused population saying it's a cruel and unusual punishment to find and arrest those who up nowhere else to go. justices will hear arguments monday morning with a decision expected later on this year. in the south and fire threatened in nursing home this morning. fire crews responding to the scene on east santa clara and north 13th streets. the fire broke out in an abandoned building, but crews we're able to stop the flames from spreading a nearby nursing home was evacuated, but residents were let back in just before 9 o'clock this morning. the cause is still under investigation. oakland firefighters work to put out an rv fire, they say spread to a nearby commercial weed growing facility earlier this morning. this time around 4.40, on 40th avenue in east

oakland. the fire was contained at around 6 o'clock in the morning. no word on how it started. no injuries reported. well, today's for 20 and all across the world, people were celebrating the culture around marijuana and here in the bay area, one center for celebrations is hippie hill and san francisco where hundreds of people gather out there today. but the tradition likely traces its origins to the north bay. it was followed 1971. classes were over at sandra fell high school football practice just and out in front of the school. but the statue of chemist louis pastor, you can find a group of bell bottom bodies. while those meeting up to lie to join. >> the regular meet up happening just before 4.30. we'll be known amongst the wall. those as the 4.20 they later dropped the grating. the phrase that has become synonymous with smoking. but how did it spread out of the

clear skies out tonight. and here's that. the temperature trends, concord, for example, will be in the 80's tomorrow and monday. notice tuesday, back to the 60's 67 thursday. so that is a quite a cool down here. here's that weather patterns. so sunday, monday, mostly clear here. very, very nice and sunny and warm and then to come tuesday, wednesday, you'll notice a change with the clouds. coastal drizzle and a slight chance of showers come thursday into friday and maybe even some sierra snow there. what it looks like, though, looks like a we aren't expecting a washout. so it's too early. you know, just some late-spring showers there. so a few light showers at best. and here's the 10 at 10 outlook here. we will be above average with precipitation. so you can expect those rainy days on a thursday friday, just keep the rain gear handy there. but we the main story will be that cool down inland, especially where you see the 80's starting tomorrow and

then come wednesday back to the 60's and then it looks like we rebound a bit just in time for next weekend. so that is very nice after the winters. and then even the overnight lows look pretty mild and the upper 40's low 50's for the next several days. so we'll see what holds together and we will see what happens. and here is that temperature a pattern. so you could just see the y we're warming so we're have that ridge of high pressure here and then after tuesday. that's when you'll notice that change here as that raft is that digging in and that will be cooling us down. bringing us unsettled weather once again. that would be and enjoy the sunshine. just stay hydrated over the next few days because e are getting into those warmer inland temperatures and of course, wear your sunscreen. back to you. >> all right, jill, thanks a lot. not a national news tonight. the house passing landmark bipartisan foreign aid bill with billions for ukraine. israel and taiwan.

includes several gop foreign policy priorities. those provisions include seizing frozen russian assets to fund the war in ukraine along with legislation that could result in a tiktok ban. earlier today, president biden praised the bipartisan group of house lawmakers for coming together today saying, quote, today members of both parties in the house voted to advance our national security interests and send a clear message about the power of american leadership on the world stage at this critical inflection points. they came together to answer history's call passing urgently needed national security legislation that i have fought for many months to secure. ukraine's president also expressing gratitude for the progress after the package past saying today the vital us a bill passed today by the house will keep the war from expanding safe thousands and thousands of lives and help both of our nations to become stronger. all this work done with johnson's job on the line with now 3 republicans and counting saying he should
