you might remember died back in 2021. while he was being restrained. grover sarah stinson has that story. >> officers eric mckinley, james fisher and cameron leahy, leahy have each been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter. alameda county district attorney pamela price announcing charges against 3 officers involved in the death of mario gonzales. >> on the eve of what would mark 3 years since the deadly encounter on april. 21st 2021. alameda police responded to a call for a report of a man at a park talking to himself and scaring the colors wife. when police arrived, they attempted to take him into custody, but a struggle ensued. police body cam video shows 3 officers pinning gonzales down for several minutes. the coroner ruled his death a homicide saying officer restraint played a role along with other contributing factors under the former district attorney nancy o'malley. prosecutors

concluded there was not enough evidence to warrant criminal charges against the officers. price reopen the case along with 7 other cases involving custody deaths. the da's public accountability unit reexamined the evidence and filed charges against the officers thursday. price says she is not directly involved with this case that i'm walled-off from the case. i will not be participating and have not participated in. >> the ultimate decision about the case, the attorney of then alameda police officer james fisher tells me he doesn't believe price. topping honest with the public. >> about role in reopening the case to begin with. and frankly, i'm sure a role in making the decision to charge on. but really the last day that you could charge case. michael rains says his law firm just started to represent fisher. so he still looking into the case. >> but he says he's confident his client followed police

protocol. the family of gonzales settled a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of alameda and the officers involved for 11 million dollars back in december. the attorney representing gonzales, his 8 year-old son michael haddad, spoke with us on the phone saying in part, the charges are obviously appropriate. it's been obvious for a long time in addition to costing the city 11 million dollars. these officers should also face a jury who can decide if they should be held criminally responsible to at the press conference. price said the officers charged face 15 years to life but then emailed us a correction saying they actually face up to 4 years behind bars. thursday was the last day to file any charges against the officers due to statute of limitations. >> in the newsroom, sara stinson back to. >> on the north base and refill police arrested a man for allegedly shooting at somebody. it happened monday right in the evening area of rice, an artist and drives

police say effort. hernandez gonzalez had a dispute with another person when he allegedly shot of the victim while they were in the car, the victim was not injured. fernandez gonzalez was later arrested. he's been booked into the marin county jails faces multiple charges. oakland police officers made several arrests in connection to a series of tobacco related robberies throughout the day. the most recent incident happened on tuesday morning. this is on mountain boulevard and shown avenue the truck driver was delivering tobacco products when 2 vehicles pulled that people came out armed, he stole the products and they just took off all the police along with several law enforcement agencies, resident 8 people connected to these robberies in oakland, stolen tobacco products and firearms are also allegedly recovered. cal osha cited a san francisco construction company in connection to a trench collapse killed a utility worker. the tragedy happened

back in september in the city's lower haight neighborhood. you might remember police say the 24 year-old employee was replacing sewer parts inside of 8 foot deep trench when the excavation just collapse. cal osha has determined the worker's employer, darcy and hardy construction inc. they knowingly committed safety violations but not providing a protective system for employees working in the trench nor an escape route in the case of a collapse. the company has been cited more than $370,000 for that incident. the city of san francisco, they're not going take in the port of oakland to court over that decision to change the name of the oakland airport. a ruling could revolve around whether the name change actually confuses travelers are not called for dan kerman. has that story? what's in a but it comes to san francisco's airport. >> the city says so much that it's suing the city of oakland to protected. we're asking the court. >> to tell oakland to stop

san jose police arrested 2 men and a woman all connected to the kidnapping and torture of a man. >> so back in february, police

say a man was held against his will and assaulted multiple times at a house on the law in court. not far from the reid-hillview county airport. they say the man was released over a day later and checked himself into a hospital. police say that's how they learned 3 people who are responsible for the assault during that arrest. police say they found illegal gambling machines marijuana for sale at the suspects. homes. okay. to look at this. 13 people were arrested after santa clara county deputies say they rounded up $150,000 in stolen merchandise. san jose deputies say earlier this month they executed a search warrant. 2 homes pounds stolen items from home depot, target kohl's, lowe's, macy's and sunglass hut. this law stores cover march and ice is going to be returned to the businesses. a light fixtures were damaged throughout a neighborhood in dublin. police say this happened in the sorento and dublin ranch community at the

>> i welcome back to the kron. morning news. we're inching on 05:30am, lot of folks going out this weekend. some even celebrating john's been keeping a close eye on that forecast morning time. we are looking at a good weekend. temperatures out there going to be a little bit cooler, though. so don't expect as many of those 80's this time around and a little bit of fog this morning to can't see much of this view from the uc berkeley hills right here. we are seeing visibility falling for a lot of the bay area, north bay bay shore and the coast. so do watch for some of that as you're getting back out there. otherwise conditions are calm and clear. once you get above that foggy blanket that we're going to be seeing for a few more hours. 40's to 50's for current temps. most of us in the low to mid 50's right now. it's actually a very mild start to this morning. berkeley and oakland are right at fifty-two degrees later on today. temperatures in the 70's for almost all the bay area. nobody is getting up to 80 degrees today. so that is a noticeable. some like cool down today. i'll talk about

when mayor london breed asked chinese president xi jingping to bring of these pandas to disease here in china. i mean, excuse me here in san francisco. and during this week's visit to china, she's been working to bring new businesses and tourism, san francisco. she signed a memorandum and we've got that up on your screen now with the chinese wildlife conservation association. officials there in beijing making that dream a reality for san francisco. >> we have been working closely with our local. >> chinese and asian community in san francisco to advocate for pandas for nearly a year. and it's an honor that our city has been chosen for the first time to be a long-term host, 2 giant pandas. >> as of right now, there's no official timeline that's been given of when these giant pandas will be arriving. but the sf standard report that

the san francisco zoo ceo tells them they're already working on renovations of an existing space. and so we could see pandas arrive as early as 2025. next year, renovations could cost up to 4 million dollars and 20 million dollars for the new exhibit which they plan to be fundraising for. well, the last time again, san francisco house pandas was back in 1984, 5 during that time. it was only for a few months as part of a global torso. this means this will mark the first official residency for giant pandas in san francisco ever back out here live. we did reach out to the zoo this morning. we're hoping to hear more from them as to the details of any official dates will keep you updated when we get that information like this morning for the san francisco zoo. what michael thomas, right. i'll send it back to you. all right, michael, thank you for that. >> ok, let's switch gears because the driver who hit and killed a 4 year-old girl in san francisco last august. well, not spend any time behind bars. officials say that crash happened as the girl was walking with her family right near oracle park.

they say the 71 year-old driver was charged with vehicular manslaughter for hitting him in crosswalk on 4th street. her father survived after being critically hurt. but the child not now. months later, the driver took a plea deal. the are 400 hours of community service and must complete a full driving course. there was a district attorney, brooke jenkins releasing this statement, quote, in line with the family's wishes and with their support, reach a negotiation disposition rather than going to trial. although nothing we can do, we'll bring their beloved daughter and granddaughter back how that this settlement brings them some solace as they work to heal and rebuild their lives in the wake of the terrible tragedy last summer. the sfmta there now proposing new safety improvement to west portal avenue. so this comes just one month after a tragic car crash, a family of 4. they were at a bus stop. they waiting to go to the zoo that day. ag says the project will include more dedicated and protected space for

overturned and caught fire. 3 other children were rescued from the van. they were taken to the hospital with a major injuries. we don't have any word on their conditions. well, already devastating situation could have potentially been even worse, not for the people rushed in to help shot. i got a chance to talk to some of the people help save the victims. >> we just knew we had to do something and to help. it was a reaction. it was an almost an instant guide. i didn't. think to think what i was going to do, i just reacted. >> joseph in jena roseman were driving by when they saw the accident and also sprung into action. everybody was trying to push the car back onto its wheels. team. >> u.s. and i don't know a big group may be about 2015 of us. we all helped push the car back up and then. we just did what we what thought we could do. trapped inside were 3 adults and 4 children. i looked down and i have to be the closest one to the to what
