>> this is. news 11. >> good evening and thanks for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 11. i'm noelle bellow tonight. the alameda county district attorney announced charges against 3 officers involved in the death of mario gonzalez. tomorrow marks 3 years since the 26 year-old died while being restrained by those officers in alameda kron 4 sarah stinson has details on the charges. >> officers eric mckinley, james fisher and cameron leahy, leahy have each been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter. alameda county district attorney pamela price announcing charges against 3 officers involved in the death of mario gonzales.

>> on the eve of what would mark 3 years since the deadly encounter on april. 21st 2021. alameda police responded to a call for a report of a man at a park talking to himself and scaring the colors wife. when police arrived, they attempted to take him into custody, but a struggle ensued. police body cam video shows 3 officers pinning gonzales down for several minutes. the coroner ruled his death a homicide saying officer restraint played a role along with other contributing factors under the former district attorney nancy o'malley. prosecutors concluded there was not enough evidence to warrant criminal charges against the officers. price reopen the case along with 7 other cases involving custody deaths. the da's public accountability unit reexamined the evidence and filed charges against the officers thursday. price says she is not directly involved with this case that i'm walled-off from the case. i will not be participating and

have not participated in. >> the ultimate decision about the case, the attorney of then alameda lolice officer james fisher tells me he doesn't believe price. topping honest with the public. >> about role in reopening the case to begin with. and frankly, i'm sure a role in making the decision to charge on. but really the last day that you could charge case. michael rains says his law firm just started to represent fisher. so he still looking into the case. >> but he says he's confident his client followed police protocol. the family of gonzales settled a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of alameda and the officers involved for 11 million dollars back in december. the attorney representing gonzales, his 8 year-old son michael haddad, spoke with us on the phone saying in part, the charges are obviously appropriate. it's been obvious for a long time in addition to costing the city 11 million

dollars. these officers should also face a jury who can decide if they should be held criminally responsible to at the press conference. price said the officers charged face 15 years to life but then emailed us a correction saying they actually face up to 4 years behind bars. thursday was the last day to file any charges against the officers due to statute of limitations. >> in the newsroom, sara stinson back to. >> thank you, sara. developing international news and a frightening escalation in the middle east tonight. several u.s. news networks are confirming israel has attacked iran. iran's news agency released this video purportedly showing it's behind that ucf nuclear site saying anti aircraft at the site have fired at unspecified targets just before dawn local time there. commercial flights are now changing their routes to avoid airspace in that region. the incident comes as tensions remain high in the middle east after iran's

unprecedented missile and drone attack on israel. that attack was in retaliation for israel's killing a top iranian general in syria. it's behind is about 200 miles south of iran's capital. tehran. iran has a nuclear facility there, but it's not expected israel would target it. we will continue to update this story on air and online as we receive more information back here in the bay area. one person is dead after their car went off a cliff at gray whale cove state beach on tara, that's south of pacifica and north of moss beach. that crash happened around 1 o'clock this afternoon. firefighters say that vehicle fell 200 feet down over the cliff. a chp helicopter did lower a rescuer on to the rocks where the vehicle landed. but the person inside the car had died. we're still working to learn what caused the car to go before that. cliff.

>> cal osha has cited a san francisco construction company in connection to a trench collapse that killed a utility worker. the tragedy happened back in september in the city's lower haight neighborhood. police say the 24 year-old employee was replacing sewer parts inside the 8 foot deep trench when the excavation collapsed. cal osha has determined the worker's employer, darcy and hardy construction inc knowingly committed safety violations by neither providing a protective system for employees working in that trench norm means of escape such as a ladder in case of collapse. the company has been cited more than $370,000 for the incident. taking a live look now at the bay bridge toll plaza this evening. not too many cars out there. i assume some folks got out today. enjoy the nice weather. we have meteorologist kyla grogan is here with more on what we can expect tomorrow. michaela. hey there. yeah. beautiful day today. in fact, we had some once again. well

above average temperatures that wanted talk to you about. so let's start with that. >> a pretty nice night out there. but let's look at what we hit today. 80 degrees in livermore and 70 would be normal this time of year. 79 in santa rosa and again, that's 10 degrees above normal. so even san francisco got up to 70 degrees. you know, it's a warm day when we are going to have some nice temperatures tomorrow, but they won't be quite as warm as they were today. right now you can see we've fallen into the 50's across the bay area. concord's hanging on. there are 59 62 in antioch. so one spot still in the 60's. wind is relatively calm. we're a little breezy earlier now. you can see just a bit of a delta breeze there in fairfield, but not bad. this is the thing that kind of caught my eye, which is to say that half moon bay has 0 visibility right now the coast is getting some very cloudy skies and a little bit of marine layer going. we could even see a little patchy drizzle in the overnight tonight. having said that, temperatures are pretty lovely, as you can see tonight, not bad. 46 to 52 degrees. i'll be back in a little bit. we'll talk about tomorrow the weekend and of course, the 7 day forecast.

all right, kelly, thank you. would-be car thieves picked the wrong man to mess with in the east bay. he scared the crew off as they tried to steal his pickup truck. >> but not before one of the suspects fired a gun kron four's. dan thorn has the story from hayward. >> barefoot and running mad francis jones goes face-to-face with 2 men trying to steal his pick jones says it to 30 in the morning last week he was barely awake when his instincts kicked in. >> you can stand inside your house and be a victim and i wasn't going to let that happen. jones's home security camera alerted him and his wife of the crime in progress. jones as he caught one of the would-be thieves taking around after breaking into his dodge pickup. i reached around his neck right here, grabbed him. and since coming to a head lock in and yank him out of the >> i'm in the video. you can see the struggle. is jones

yells out to call police then? >> a gunshot fired. when the guy shot at me. i kind of got we woke about what really was going on and i let the guy go and i jumped for cover after that. >> troublemakers then took off in a white sedan. jones says for more than 20 years, his neighborhood along carol avenue has been pretty quiet and he hopes it could stay that way. police discourage people from confronting criminals because of safety. but jones says he had enough. i didn't get shot. i didn't get hurt. they didn't steal my truck. >> so hopefully it sends a message that, you know, don't go so to another street and not come around here again. >> heyward police say they found that getaway car abandoned and it was stolen and their investigation into this attempted auto theft is ongoing in hayward, dan thorn kron, 4 news. >> 80 light fixtures have been left damage throughout a dublin neighborhood. police

say it happened in the sorento at dublin ranch community. at the end of last month. officers say not only were the light severely damage. the suspects also vandalized the bridge on grafton street with yellow and blue spray paint anyone with information about this is asked to call dublin police. >> ladies and gentleman. welcome pandas francisco. >> you heard her right hand. those are officially coming to the san francisco zoo. mayor london breed announcing an agreement made with chinese officials in beijing today. there's been a trip to china for the last week. the city and temporarily hosted pandas back in 1984, 1985. as part of a global tour. but this will mark the first official residency for giant pandas in san francisco. >> it's been one month since a family in san francisco was hit and killed while waiting for a west portal bus. bus

>> welcome back. the driver who hit and killed a 4 year-old girl in san francisco last august. well, not spend any time behind bars. that

crash happened is the girl was walking with her family near oracle park. the 71 year-old driver was charged with vehicular manslaughter for striking them in the crosswalk there on 4th street. her father survived after being critically injured. but the child not now. months later, the driver has taken a plea deal and is set to serve 400 hours of community service. and must complete a driving course. san francisco da brooke jenkins releasing a statement saying in part, quote, in line with the family's wishes and with their support, we reached a negotiated disposition rather than going to trial, although nothing that we do can bring their luck, beloved daughter and granddaughter back. i hope that this settlement brings them some solace as they work to heal and rebuild their lives in the wake of the terrible tragedy last summer and quote. meantime, sfmta is proposing new safety improvements to west portal avenue. this coming one month after a tragic car crash killed a family of 4 at a bus stop. the agency says the

project will include more dedicated and protected space for pedestrians. there are also some plans to remove car traffic from the train tracks there. the sfmta director says the goal is to simplify high traffic lanes along lowest street by restricting cars from driving through the intersection. >> that prioritizes people, i'm going to shop in the west portal commercial and support street by eliminating all of the left. her for about 40% are traffic deaths are a result of drivers making left turns and not that straits. >> the agency will collect feedback on the improvements before making the by this summer. san francisco is sticking to its word suing the city of oakland for allowing the port to try and change the name of the oakland airport last week, leaders at the port voted unanimously to move

forward with renaming the airport to san francisco bay oakland international airport. the board is set to hold a final vote on that naming decision sometime next month. san francisco officials say the proposed name change would be a quote, false designation of origin. city attorney david chiu says filing the lawsuit is in the public's best interest. >> we hope to have a reasonable collaborative conversation on alternative names that would work for both airports but their refusal to engage has left us with no choice. litigation is always a last resort. but unfortunately, at this point we have to bring this lawsuit. oakland's proposed name is going to create immense confusion and chaos for travelers, particularly those who do not speak english. we're very concerned about travelers are going to miss flights mishaps experienced economic loss. we're worried that this is going to damage the reputation of the travel industry in our bay area region.

>> the port of oakland has issued a statement in response saying they trust travelers will understand a major metropolitan area can have more than one airport and quote, the ports proposed renaming does not infringe upon sfo. ce mark sfo cannot lay claim to the geographically descriptive term. san francisco let alone claiming exclusive rights to the san francisco bay. be interesting to see that unfold. okay. let's get your check of your 4 zone forecast. taking a live look at sfo tonight. anyone coming in for this weekend is definitely in for quite the treat. kron four's meteorologist kyla grogan here with more. yes, it will not be quite as warm as today and yesterday, but it will still be. >> and absolutely gorgeous. and above average weekend. so let's get you to let's talk about this little bit cloudy out there tonight. we will have some drizzle out at the coast. we're also having visibility issues out there right now at half moon bay, 0 visibility. so be very careful if you're going to be out there in the evening early

morning hours. >> and then as we get into tomorrow, another above average day, as i mentioned, should be gorgeous. the weekend looking good and a little tiny chance. it is just a tiny chance of a shower next week. yeah, i've got that in the forecast, too. let's talk about that. so we've had high pressure in control and that's kind of breaking down. but we're getting a bit zone, all meaning that things are kind of calm. nothing really major happening. but we start to get later into the weekend we get into about tuesday. you start to see a little rain trying to come into california. that is going to be when we start to feel cool down, know whether we get any rain or not. we're not going to really know until we get a little closer to it. but it would likely be thursday into friday and we'll see. doesn't look like a huge chance. but still interesting this time of year to see that. now, if you are like me and you have it, she eyes and have been a little rain would help us because we are going to have high allergies as we head towards the weekend. and fortunately that has been going on and it's going to continue. so temperature wise. let's talk about that high pressure kind of moving away and that will allow us to cool down a little bit as we get

into tomorrow. but by sunday, you can see warming up again in these isoforms. you get to those oranges. you start to warm up when you get into the yellows and the greens and the blues. you start to cool down. this is as we get to tuesday, this will knock the temperatures down. it looks like we'll stay dry. but what that means is that if you don't have any weekend plans yet, folks, you might want to make some. this is santa rosa this weekend looking up for upper 70's and about 80 degrees. and as we look across our 7 day forecast, you can see we're all going to be experiencing some really nice temperatures, albeit a little cooler at the coast for sure, because they are going to be hanging on to some of that marine layer throughout the day tomorrow. we do have a birthday on monday and that's going to be a beautiful day, too. but, you know, we are going to go back down to earth. once we get past about tuesday, it's been kind of nice. it's been like pre summery feel like it's been fantastic. feel like the last i mean, since last weekend, i know we had a little bit of a cold snap pierre. and then just since then, though, it's been great all week. and i'm glad i look at the weekend. that's actually why now? and

it's a weather person. it's nice that i can deliver that and say, you know, make your you're making what we try to try. things got bit. the city of san francisco may have canceled the annual for 20 event at hippie hill. but that doesn't mean people won't show up to celebrate anyway. thousands usually descend upon. >> robin williams meadow and nearby hippie hill to celebrate all things marijuana on for 20, which of course, lance on this saturday, a city sanctioned event or not. it's likely folks are still going to be showing up there on saturday in an effort to be prepared. the church of ambrosia along with the haight ashbury merchants association say they plan to bring in toilets, a medical tent, thousands of bottles of water and staff to try and keep paths around hippie hill. clear and clean. however, the church is still asking people to find alternatives to celebrate because of too many people show up. it could put a strain on their limited resources. >> everybody's really concerned that this could get out of control. so we just want keep it as mild as

possible. people are going to come. it's going to be a beautiful day. it will be a great day to be out there. >> but the less people, the less problem, i worry about safety for the people who are attending. but ice on them really isn't that i think they applying to have some medical tents. so hopefully they can. >> keep keep an eye on people who need it. but yeah. >> the city has rec and parks department did cancel the popular event this year because of financial struggles and a lack of sponsors. there are some other events scheduled, though in the area on saturday, including a permitted volleyball and kickball event. so it's going to be pretty busy out there. >> coming up, the warriors packed up their bags at chase yesterday after a disappointing loss to the kings in sacramento earlier this week today we hear from gm, mike dunn, levy and the on the state of the warriors future. jason is going to have more on what he said coming up next.
