to that in a minute. but really want to talk about the weather. yeah, because we're going have another gorgeous, sunny day. i john, yet another one in the making and just as warm if even warmer than yesterday for a few spots. now, look at outside this morning. we do have bit of a cool coastal breeze working its way into the golden gate that will keep our coastal areas nicely in the 60's. where is east bay, like your view from the east bay hills right here, back up into the mid to upper 70's, even a few low 80's. now we are under a lot of sunshine. you'll notice a bit of haze today, but not a lot of it. and temperatures are going to rise quickly under that sunshine right now. pittsburgh, as well as vacaville. our first 2 spots back up into the 60's and the rest soon to follow likely here in just a couple minutes later on today, 70's to low 80's for your daytime highs. all right, john, thank you for in the last hour, we had an accident on the bay bridge. >> it was a minor crash and drive times one of just a little bit. 24 minute right there. and no accidents currently on our bridges. so 25 minutes on the san mateo bridge is 80's. a little slow

going on that bridge. a richmond center fell bridge around 60 minutes. they are golden gate bridge. so north bay along 1, 0, one's a little bit slower. it's why it's 41 minutes checking on the bart right now. we have a 20 minute delay. that's on the san francisco line in all directions. they had earlier medical emergency. they have slowly been working on getting that clear. we'll have more on that coming up. region's back to you. all right. thank you. and we want to get back to the breaking news that we've been covering, something to happen overnight. it was a police shooting involving the oakland police department and it was deadly. >> for the suspect, this shooting happened around 9.30, last night on 16th street actually was the sacramento police that they were in town investigating and homicide in oakland when they asked the local police to help them arrest a suspect. yes. opd says that suspect came out from in a home with a gun and that's when officers opened fire, killing that person. >> none of the police were hurt, but the department says the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as they conduct their investigation 802, and pro-palestine demonstrators

were back in south san francisco. >> after a man attacked them last week actually video here showing the man physically and verbally assaulting members of this group called change s process that you have called for. dan thorn takes a closer look. >> the man in that video was arrested by south san francisco police and charged with battery and hate speech. organizers for change ssf say facing that kind of vitriol was unfair and unacceptable because they're simply calling for peace and an end to the war in gaza. and the rallies are not going to end until this war is over. >> palm people messages targeting pro-palestinian protesters last week in south san francisco races. a 57 year-old man was caught on camera bumping hurling insults and even spitting and i don't think being anti genocide.

antiwar but apparently advocated by our messaging. >> change ssn and see a 15 for palestine rallied in the same spot where the incident happened wednesday evening for weeks. they've been demanding a cease-fire resolution in south city. >> out of fear of the return of any bad actors, organizers asked for children to be kept at my son does wish that he could out here with us. >> this is a very important cause along with other people like paul following last week's violence doxing. he's also been a concern for the group. >> so kron 4 was asked to not share the names of any ralliers. but the demonstrators are also not staying silent, waving palestinian flags and getting the attention of drivers along el camino. change. ssf says they will not be deterred from their mission by men like everywhere. there's always going to be bad actors,

whatever you're or whatever case you're advocating for. i think that this is a matter of human rights and >> i think if you're advocating against preservation of human life, you should take a good look at yourself. >> these demonstrations were not supposed to be a weekly thing, but after last week's attack, the group says they felt compelled to carry on and they're planning on having another rally next week at the civic campus here in south san francisco in south san francisco. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> it's 804, and alameda county district attorney pamela price says the her office is working on filing charges against the pro-palestine protesters. >> who blocked 8.80. >> on monday and we're showing you the concrete barrel filled the barrel that they were kind of chain with for hours in the middle of the roadway. in a statement kron 4, the da says her office is working with the chp to process all the evidence and information and she goes on to say while her office supports the central right to protest, it's

important to note public safety should never be compromised and exercising the first amendment -ight to free speech. over and san francisco, the da brooke jenkins is reaching out to anyone impacted by the protests that happened on the golden gate bridge on monday. she says anybody trapped on the bridge that day should contact the chp in moran. >> well, google has fired 28 of its employees who protested at the company's offices across the country this week. one of those protests happened outside the google office in sunnyvale. our cameras were there see the demonstrators. they were out there pushing for the company to cut ties with israel. police arrested 5 people, including some google employees who refused to leave a google spokesperson says that physically impeding other employees work and preventing access to facilities is a clear violation of company policies. and that's why they were let go. speaking of which there's a new report that says the company is planning to lay off more people. a spokesperson says the layoffs are all part of an effort to

cut costs. there's still no word on the number of employees that will be laid off. but this is the latest round. we know that earlier this year the company laid off about 1000 employees. >> it's 806. and today, the south bay janitors and san jose will be demonstrating. they're demanding better pay and better working conditions. this while 25,000 janitors across california are planning to authorize a strike because their contracts are set to expire by the end of this month. here's video from a previous rally that happened in june of last year. the union that represents the janitor says that they're fighting to end abuse of workloads that they say have caused injuries to about a 3rd of the workforce last year. and they also want better pay the rally starts at 11 o'clock this morning in front of the adobe headquarters on park avenue. it's been one month now since a family of 4 was struck and killed while they were waiting in san francisco at the west portal bus stop to go to the zoo. and last night, san francisco police held a traffic staying and that area

to caution drivers about safety, d a sting. was it you low and will streets near the west portal ab area and in just 90 minutes, police handed out 22 citations and 5 warnings to drivers. the assistant police chief says that since that deadly accident happened, the community has been very concerned in vocal about improving traffic safety in that area. and they're also offering tips to pedestrians. >> let's say for the whole city has a pedestrian walking around. you just have to be really aware of your surroundings for a lot of reasons, you know, to prevent crime, but also in terms of traffic safety really making sure you're looking both ways a few times before you cross make eye contact with drivers, putting your hands up to just be seen and be safe. >> one of the drivers was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian was saying that she didn't like the way that this sting was conducted, but she does admit that there could be improvements made to that intersection like a stop sign or a clear a cross walk

she thinks would help. >> well, someone vandalized the historic street lamps. that line lake merritt in oakland, you can see some of the damage here. city officials say about 40 kerr boxes were broken into a 10 light poles are down now from a combination of fallen trees and vandalism. city workers are having to replace some stolen wiring to that had been ripped out and installing temporary light poles while permanent replacement. sir, fabricated residents say obviously now this is kind of concerning for them. >> with all the life >> in is like safe like going feel safe. got this makes like. >> well, the city is estimating they've repaired about 25% of the damage they've identified so far. but they say they're finding more damage as they're out there making repairs. so you're not sure how long it will take to get it all done. it's 809, and a warning to fast track customers. >> multiple reports coming in from people who say that they've been getting a text

scam. the text say that you have a and you should click the link. don't click the link. fast track does not request payments with a text link like that. if you have made a payment, it's probably a scam contact or bank immediately because that's just not what fast track does. >> starting today, the pacifica pier is going to be closed for a couple of days while crews inspect the structure to see if that can be fully reopened. sections of that pier were damaged by large waves back in december when we had wintry storms roll through the ear was partially reopened february. but engineer said that half that you're still wasn't safe for visitors. so now that the storms have passed, we've got some clear weather ahead. they want to get out there and do that inspection work. speaking of the past, it's been 118 years now since the big earthquake of 19. 0, 6 that devastated san francisco. and you can see in some of these archival footage, what it was like that day. >> that destruction, which leveled nearly the entire city

city officials as they do every year. gather today this morning to honor the memory of those who died and were hurt. they didn't laid a wreath here at lot of fountain was sort of became the facebook of its time. that was how people came together to find out the fate of loved ones or relatives where people were more than 3,000 people died that day. more than 200,000 were left without a home and the present day. city officials want to remind the public how important it is to be prepared for an earthquake. >> i think what people need to know is that the things that we depend on a will not be available to us. plan for that to just think through that scenario and think about how you're going to prepare your family. the remembrance started at 04:45am. >> this morning, mayor breed attend every year. she was there today because she's of an official visit to china and in many past years, we've you know, we've always had

serious. and we thought that if we did something with light hearted that it would be more impactful. >> having teen speak to other teens through video is nothing new. the santa clara county health department has been sponsoring this sti viral video contest since 2014. >> and with st eyes on the rise, it's more important now than ever. we see it at cross. the u.s. that more than half of the sexually transmitted infections. >> our karin youth ages 15 to 24. and that's why it's so important that we reach youth with the messages about the tools and information that they're going to help keep them safe and healthy from these infections. the winning videos are now online and the filmmakers hope with each viewing and posting it will raise awareness. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> a 20 right now and after california raised the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $20 an hour, prices have already gone up. when you go to eat fast food, at least according to a study that was just on by kalinowski equity

research, the biggest increase between april first and now if you'll notice we go to wendy's prices are up at wendy's. 8% pull please. prices are up 7 and a half percent. starbucks prices are up 7% taco bell and burger king. have seen a 3 and a 2% rise respectively and their prices for food. mcdonald's actually. hasn't raised their prices the franchise. groups have been talking about their fears and saying they were going to have remember the minimum wage went up from 16 to $20 an hour for fast food workers just about 17 days ago. >> well, some of your favorite snacks like cheetos or gator aid or pop tarts. those could be at risk of being banned because of their ingredients. here's what's going on. california's one of 5 states proposing laws to prohibit certain ingredients and color additives which helped preserve food that we eat. but they also are linked to health issues, including cancer. so

advocates want the companies that make these things too. you know, at the very least, come up with an alternative ingredient to different synthetic dye. that would yes, change up the recipe slightly. one of those ingredients is brominated vegetable oil and it's been on the fda's list for proposed banning for a while. it used to be in a lot of sodas and sports drinks, although not so much anymore. and then red dye number 3, which gives food and drinks that really bright red cherry color. that's also been linked to health bad health thing. so this is what a nutritious had to say about it all. take a listen. >> so if europe can do it, we certainly can, too. but it does take more money and it takes really this dedication to saying we're not going to allow for this low quality stuff to keep entering into our systems. >> well, researchers say the dyes have been linked to cancer and hyperactivity and behavioral issues in some children. critics say these laws undermine the authority of the fda and confuse and

>> we are 25 is the time california attorney general rob bonta is set to hold a news conference this morning in oakland to talk about in solving california's ongoing housing crisis. he plans to speak at 9.30. he'll be at case us when dose courtyard and hear concerns from residents of the from field transit village after the conference battle plans to hard hat tour of the hotels fruitvale, which is a planned cultural hub for community entrepreneurs and local businesses. >> a 25 right now. and what if you don't want driverless cars coming your neighborhood? a new bill. >> that has been introduced to the state senate. looks to further regulate autonomous vehicles. the bill aligns driverless vehicle restrictions with what you have to do. if you're human, you want to drive a car. and that means local police could take up the cars and communities could keep driverless cars out of areas

of concern. driverless cars would also be subject to the same dmv requirements as any other vehicle. the first bill had its hearing yesterday and it could be a month or more until it goes to the governor's desk. we'll keep you posted. san francisco just got more 2 million dollars to help food insecurity. the money comes from the cow recycle program. it's a statewide initiative to combat food scarcity. the grant to is going to contribute food to nonprofits and food pantry organizations. it's 8.26. and coming up on the kron 4 morning news, a tiktok challenge that you need to know about because it could be very dangerous for teenagers. why they're carrying fake guns and what law enforcement says is dangerous about this.

department now investigating a deadly shooting that involved an officer. that shooting happened just before 9.30, last night on 16th street with the department actually saying it was sacramento pd that was in town in oakland investigating this homicide when they asked opd to help them arrest a suspect. and then the oakland police say that the person that they were gonna rest came outside of a home with a gun. >> and officers ended up shooting and killing that person. no officers were injured. and now the officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues. >> meanwhile, in oakland, family wants to raise awareness now about the signs of a faulty battery has a lithium battery a burning their home kron four's. sara stinson takes a look at what happened. >> suzy fetter and clark boyd described the traumatic moment when a fire started at their oakland home sunday afternoon. you're screaming for your partner about eye wall there in start. fire is says you wouldn't believe that would knew. the couple says loud pops and smoke started coming

from their garage. so boyd went to check it out. >> that's when like the rest of black smoke came. and boyd says he quickly saw it was his lithium battery that caught fire setter quickly called 9-1-1. but she says she was put on hold over 6 minutes. >> and i ended having to hang so i could. >> call other people and other neighbors were out and there are hold with 9, 1, as well that are then grabbed their 18 month-old baby and dog. her husband stayed behind to fight the fire. and got the garden hose from the backyard trying put the fire out. eventually firefighters arrived and put out the flames, a car inside the garage and the building. >> got heavily damaged. thankfully, no one got hurt, but the family and their 2 neighbors now without a home. it's just definitely overwhelming. and it's even hard process we need to do at this time. boyd says he had a lot of flammable things in the garage. so this could have

been a lot worse. we're all counting their blessings of this reflecting on the chaos of sunday. boyd wants to warn others about faulty lithium batteries. you have a problem parking a better. do use that at all. you know, returning returning. if they have a ipproblem that, you know your best to get your money back. and if you do. >> take that loss taking a loss on the little battered $100 battery a something possibly even somebody getting hurt. >> now the family says they bought that battery from a company called son put out a usa and before it caught fire, they didn't notice they were having some charging issues and they called the company to ask about but they say they didn't get any help from customer service. so maybe that's another red flag is if something seems to be wrong with the battery, you might want to not use it. >> in the south bay, we have 4 people now charged with murder after an 18 month-old baby overdosed in san jose man among the 4 or the baby's parents. this is them on the

video here. derek rail and kelly richardson at their first santa clara ca earth. they are the first in santa clara county's history to be charged with murdering their own child with drugs. this is video from when they appeared back in november. investigators say the parents waited more than 12 hours before calling 9-1-1 to report that their daughter had died. they say the 2 additional people being charged. they provided steady supplies of opioids and evidence shows it all for we're using drugs in the very room. but the baby died. well, several east bay school districts were on high alert wednesday after receiving a bomb threat. fact. it was about 6 o'clock yesterday morning that we reported right here on the kron. 4 morning news at an e-mail threat had been sent to antioch, unified brentwood union liberty union, mount diablo, unified and pittsburg unified school districts claiming that a bomb with summer on campus, it would go off unless russian prisoners were released from us jails. ultimately that threat was found to not be credible. but antioch, unified did have increased security throughout

the day just as a precaution. we spoke to some parents who decided to pick their kids up early. >> he didn't like if a sense you real, not. >> was were used gear. i want. a little scared. >> the assistant superintendent with the liberty union high school district says the threat was actually sent to schools all over the state, though no specific school was mentioned. investigating a swatting incident at a school at and subtle junior and senior high. it was around one of the afternoon yesterday. police got a call saying there was a hostage situation going on at the school. police responded. they searched the campus. they didn't find anything suspicious going on at all. and in the north bay petaluma police are investigating what happened at a school graffiti at kenilworth junior high that threatened a school shooting saying it was going to happen today. the department did respond. they've investigated

there's no credible threat to the school or staff and now they're working more to get to the bottom of that. >> okay. 36 is the time. want to talk about a new game trending on social media that could have dire consequences and it's been happening more and more here around the bay. in fact, just recently a concerned citizen called 9-1-1 to say they saw this teenager with a gun running around the neighborhood. it was a fake gun and part of this challenge kron four's terisa stasio takes a closer look at the game called. >> senior assassins. yeah. just call that the assassin challenge. >> kron 4 news obtained the snapshots from a deputy's body worn camera of replica gun recovered by marin county sheriffs on tuesday. a spokesperson says the deputies pulled over the team with friends after an uber driver have reported seeing what he thought was a teen running through a neighborhood holding a real weapon, according to their was something that they knew could be riskier. people could be concerned about. >> so they're trying to be

smart about but running through residential neighborhoods and hiding behind is not really smart way to go about doing that. >> that's marin county deputy adam schumer horn. he says that the high school student told deputies recently purchased the fagan online to participate in the senior has since game. seniors teams and eliminate each other by tagging competitors with water, guns. >> although kids want to have fun that they want to do silly do things like that that many of us have that senior of our own this is something that definitely has some serious ram fications. >> last month after a teen was cited on a marine bike path with another fagan principles that marin county high school sent out emails to parents warning them about the game. and consequences of getting caught. redwood high school doctor payne sent this out, quote, school consequences for participation in this game may include loss of privileges such as prom graduation

ceremonies, athletics and other activities, end quote, martin county sheriff's office put on their social media site. the circumstances surrounding the teen and the realistic looking gun has a message for all. >> my hope is that parents will see this and have conversations with their be cognizant about the types items that they're leaving the house with for the purchasing in marin county, theresa kron. 4 news. >> 8 38 and in the south bay, a new audit of the san jose police department is out and it shows more than 360 complaints against officers in 2023. about 250 of those involved police misconduct. one complaint says that an officer and had used excessive force during an arrest and was asked by the suspect while he was being detained. he said the officer said, quote, we just decided to stop a black man for no reason. okay. a review of that incident found the officers use of force in that case was within the police policy. but it said
