bright so it's going to say start for the week ahead, but it's going to be right shining. that's for sure. morning, sure is looking at a really nice day today and particularly bright this afternoon. a little bit warmer than yesterday to yesterday. it was the 60's for your daytime highs today. it's going to be the 70's. a look outside at the golden gate bridge. a little bit of fog streaming its way into the golden gate. we are seeing that same fog out and the delta, some in the tri valley and a few spots around nevado to up along highway 101. so it was a >> very foggy commute on one-on-one yesterday. much the same this morning. current temperatures are in the 40's to low 50's mountain view in san francisco right at 50 degrees. alameda at 52 petaluma. you're down at 44 degrees right now. so a cool start to the day jackets on this morning. but this afternoon, you'll notice that warm up compared to yesterday. i'll talk more about this warmer forecast ahead, rain. all right, john, thank you for that. of you had a really busy morning trying navigate yesterday. >> things are much better today. so while things are

starting to pick up, we're not seeing any major shutdowns. 18 minutes on the bay bridge. you have a traffic hazard on the san mateo bridge. you can see crews already there getting off the bridge. the drive times have really changed much up a few minutes. but 18 minute ride for you there. 13 minutes, rich december. so rich golden gate bridge just short of 22 minutes. 37 to the tolls. let's check on those highways. remember 8.80, at a standstill yesterday. a look at this. nothing but green. an 11 minute ride. leandro into oakland county back to you. thank you. reyna. it's 701. and a hearing for convicted killer scott peterson will happen today in redwood city. yeah, this is the first of 3 hearings actually that have been set. >> as his new defense team is trying to get a new trial with kron four's. michael thomas following the story for us from the hall of justice in redwood city. michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. will the overall purpose of these hearings really is to find issues and discrepancies in prosecutors case that would allow for a new trial for scott peterson

and essentially overturn his double murder conviction for killing his wife laci, who was pregnant at the time with their unborn son. connor, police say he then dumped into the san francisco bay on christmas eve during the year 2002. now, as james mentioned, this is just one of 3 trials. we've got video up on your screen so i can break it all down for you. his new defense team essentially wants to get a new trial by asking for new dna testing. peterson was convicted of those 2 murders back in 2004 but has maintained his innocence while serving life in prison at a facility just east of sacramento. earlier this year, the los angeles innocence project which takes on cases that they believe were wrongfully convicted, took on peterson's case and are now asking a judge to approve new dna testing and reexamined evidence from 2 decades ago. some of that evidence includes things related to a burned out van, which you see there on your screen that was found near the peterson home in modesto around the same time that his wife, laci had disappeared. his legal team is

asking that you dna testing be done on blood. that was found inside of a mattress in that they're also asking to see reports that were collected during the search at the bay area. marina really sees remains were found. in addition, they also asked to see interviews that were conducted during that time and police reports about a burglary that happened across the street from the peterson home. the original attorneys who prosecuted peterson are set to be here in court today. well, peterson will be joining him via zoom from the mule creek state prison, which again, is just east of sacramento as to if a new trial will come about with these request, only time will tell. but back out here live, this hearing is set for 9 o'clock this morning. we will have a team here bringing you the latest details from inside that courtroom says we get more information. we'll keep you updated. that's a very latest reporting live in redwood city and michael thomas street. james, we'll send it back to you. all right. thank you, michael. >> at 7, 0, for another big story that we're following

this morning. the fact that more than 50 pro-palestinian demonstrators rallied at a fremont bart station before then marching to the tesla factory in fremont, police responded and then things turned confrontational with protesters ripping down a gate. >> and officers firing pepper. kron 4 jack moment has more. >> and those pepper bullets not only hit the protesters, but they also a journalist as well, including us here kron 4 news, not before that confrontation with police officers. the protest was relatively peaceful and what demonstrators call a nationwide economic god. it's the chants heard around the bay area monday. protesters looking to make a statement blocking traffic. >> and some of the region's biggest names will not be complicit in genocide. and we not allow economy to proceed like normal. khalil gibran organized for the protest says they want to target tesla as the benefits from u.s. tax dollars which also go to fund the country's allies like

israel, even if no one in charge. here is the message. broad says they are but we will come out in the numbers to make sure that we are her. what matters to them is their capitalism one of the pressing people here in the states and globally. the protest started at the warm springs bart station in fremont at this protesters who didn't give us their name. >> says they were prepared to be there all evening. >> but quickly, the group took to their cars, arrived at the entrance of the tesla factory. employees tried to block off the crowd with fences, but the increasing number of protesters took it down. they marched all the way to the main entrance of tesla's factory where they met with police. it was peaceful at first, but fired at protesters and some the more we protest, the more we show up we're going to get. and i just hope that people are ready to come together and stand up the protests died down after that. but for people like that, they're corey, who is palestinian american and it's

been affecting us our whole my whole life. he says he's standing up for his family who lives in the war zone. are you worried for them? >> absolutely. yeah. sometimes they don't respond because they're just like i said. >> they're tired of responding everybody, but it scares you because you don't know if something happened to them or they're just like tired responded, you know, now, these are the pepper that fremont police used against protesters. and of course, that ended up hitting journalist as well for you watching at home. these the definitely not feel good. now we reached out to from a police to find out how many people were arrested from today's protest as well as tesla for comment. but we did not hear back reporting in fremont jacmel kron 4 news. >> well, the effort to recall alameda county's district attorney pamela price is moving forward. the alameda county registrar of voters has confirmed there are enough valid signatures to trigger a recall election. the group behind the effort called safe says that recalling price would bring positive change in alameda county. the next step

is for the petition now to be examined by the alameda county board of supervisors. and they are set to do that on april 30th. it's 77. and today the san francisco sheriff's office is going to talk about the lockdowns that have been happening at 2 jails. >> the jails are on lockdown after a number of inmates attacked deputies and staff. this is at the could to jails number 2, 3, where the sheriff's office says that inmates have hurt 7 staff members since march. 29th. the union representing the deputies is demanding that the california national guard the called in to help that press conference is set for 2 o'clock this afternoon. over at the dublin prison. federal officials are planning to close down the women's prison in dublin. this after the fbi searched the prison last month and the last 3 years, at least 8 employees at the dublin prison have been charged with sexually abusing inmates and 5 5 of them have already pleaded guilty. we don't know what the closing date is at this point.

>> what we're learning more on those 2 teenage girls who were victims of a deadly shooting in napa. it happened saturday night on riverside drive right near the napa river. investigators say they found a 17 year-old and a 19 year-old suffering from gunshot wounds. one died at the scene. the other at the hospital officers say a black car was seen leaving the scene. so anyone with information on what might have happened, who was in that car is asked to call now police. well, one person was hurt after their car was hit by a caltrain near san martine station. look at the damage to the car there. firefighters say this car was on the tracks at about 6.30, yesterday evening as a southbound train was approaching. there were about 25 passengers on the train at the time of the accident, though nobody on board was hurt. we're still looking for more information as to who was behind the car in the condition of the people involved. >> it's 709, and mayor london breed is in china this week trying to strengthen economic ties. she met with representatives, oceans and airlines talking about adding

direct flights to san francisco in 2023. visitors from china spent more than 630 million dollars in san francisco. and the mayor says that boosting tourism list. the entire economy creates jobs and supports local businesses. so that's why she wants to increase were ties with china. and also today, governor newsom. it's going to be in the bay area. he wants to announce a new climate partnership with norway. that event happens at noon. we'll tell you more about that later on fox. 4 news. >> a portion of pro canyon road between castro valley and san ramon is closed through august for road work. the road is scheduled to be closed between 8 in the morning at 05:00pm for reconstruction and replacement of 3 cross culverts. drivers are asked to avoid the area during those hours and take 5.80, or 6.80 instead. well, watch this. 2 dogs reunited after one was trapped in a well for 6 hours and the other would leave the side. this is marina. she was covered in cuts from trying to

impact. a warming forecast in a dry forecast ahead. aside from that fog today is going to be a mostly sunny afternoon. and you can see that here in future cast tomorrow actually gets a little bit warmer yet. so yesterday with 60's today, it's going to be 70's that our warmest tomorrow will be looking at a few low 80's in the mix. today's daytime highs in the city's some 60's. definitely cooler towards the coastline. whereas temperatures along the bay shore in our inland areas are going to be shorts and t-shirt where the in many spots redwood city at 74 today, south bay looking at some upper 70's in a few cases with mid 70's for a lot of the east bay hayward and union city at 73. same for you in san leandro, north bay temps, toledo also at 73 with pittsburgh in antioch, right at 76 today, tomorrow and thursday, going to be toastie days inland with mid 70's along the bay shore. but lower 80's inland. the weekend ahead could not be better. low 70's that the bayshore mid 70's inland and lots of sunshine

kids can easily work their way around that. the report did not offer specific changes on social media apps but says that parents can also play a role in limiting social media use for their children. well, google says it's reducing california news websites from their search results. the company is pushing back against a pending state bill that would require big tech companies to pay publishers for their content. google claims the bill would change the company's business model. some lawmakers are condemning google's actions calling it an abuse of power. >> boeing is pushing back against claims from a whistleblower who warns a panel on the outside of one of the planes could eventually break apart in mid-flight. boeing engineer sam sailed for says that executive force was applied to fit panels together on the 7.87 assembly line raising the risk of fatigue or microscopic cracking in the

material that could cause it to break apart. this is coming as he's testifying to a congressional panel tomorrow. the company conducted testing replicating 165,000 flights with no findings, they say a fatigue instructure. the average 7.87 makes 600 flights a year. in the east bay. also police have arrested a man for a shooting at a passing car on moeser lane last summer. they say that walter martinez fired several shots at a passing car and then ran off. now he's being held on $350,000 bond. >> in the north bay, a man who was hit by a car earlier this month in santa rosa has died from his injuries. police say the car hit the man on the 6th a vote last month just after 09:00pm while he was walking in the area of corporate center parkway in sebastopol road. they say he was taken to a hospital but died on sunday. they say he was not in a marked crosswalk or in a controlled intersection at the

time of the crash. officers say the driver cooperated with investigators, adding that drugs or alcohol does not seem to be a factor in this accident. happening today, sonoma county health care providers plan to rally at the board of supervisors meeting to ask for a livable wage. the union representing the workers say that home care providers and nursing home workers in the county are making less than what it costs live in. sonoma county. they say the low wages contributed to a caregiver shortage and that rally is set to start at 10 o'clock this morning. >> it's 7.20, and coming up on the kron 4 morning news. the latest on a fatal wrong-way crash that happened on 5.80. we're going to tell you the follow-up to that stick with us. and california business owners are in the nation's capital were going to tell you how they're working to secure federal dollars and what they want to do with that money.

>> 7.23 in case you haven't noticed gas prices are now almost $0.10 more than we were paying last week. yeah, no lee in the bay area find guests under 5 bucks anymore. so take a well, the good news is the prices are one to $0.2 lower than they were yesterday. >> wow, i struck penny. >> okay. from the north bay down the peninsula, you can see the prices here. napa looks at 5.77 for their average. so they're the most expensive gas right now around the bay on average. and then you can count down by pennies as you go all the way down to

the bottom of the list, were solano county has the least insanely high gas prices at 5.61. a gallon. in the east bay, a decision to annex this area. you see between the city of concord in pittsburgh. >> to build housing is being put on hold is postponed. now. >> it's called the loss. madonna's ridgeline and pittsburgh and the developer, discovery builders. they want to annex 600 acres to build units in this development. but the organizers, including save mount diablo. that group say that they don't want that done so fast without another environmental review. attorneys for discovery builders say that they have already sent biological consultants to the area and found the site would not effect plant species because the ridgecrest already has a limiting environmental conditions for those species. officials now have to side with before the project on june 12 or what?

the roads. >> today yesterday, not so much right. we were wall the wall of what happened. >> with the massive protests basically blockades of bay area traffic alive from 6 o'clock. when it started till noon when some of it started to resolve. but yet started 8.80, protester chaining themselves to concrete. >> filled barrels traffic was at a standstill in both directions there for quite some time and yeah, there was meantime, a whole other protest at the golden gate bridge. a little different. >> but they were still connected intricately and had to be removed from the bridge. and that took so what's going to happen to all these protests? kron 4 sarah stinson takes a look. >> i implore people please. protest were here to protect your rights to protest, but you cannot block roadways. you cannot keep emergency personnel, whether it's ambulance or law enforcement, fire department from getting out to assist other people. >> stern words from california

highway patrol after arresting 38 protesters monday. they were among hundreds of people who disrupted traffic for hours at 3 different locations in the bay area. all calling for an immediate cease-fire in gaza. 26 people got arrested after blocking all lanes on the golden gate bridge. 7 people got arrested on i-80 in oakland after a group locked their arms 280 pound concrete barrels in the middle of traffic lanes. and at the 7th street exit of i-80, 8000's of protesters walked onto the freeway. 5 people got arrested there. chp says the protesters now face a slew of charges. the most serious being conspiracy to commit a crime and false imprisonment, which surprise legal expert stephen clark. >> the chp is obviously taking this very seriously with these arrests suggesting conspiracy that could elevate these charges to a felony. the protesters on the golden gate

bridge will be prosecuted by the san francisco district attorney and the protesters in the east bay will be prosecuted by the alameda county district attorney. >> clark says it might be hard to prove the false imprisonment charges. certainly you can argue that the protesters by shutting down access on the bridge you are presenting those drivers. >> at the same time, the drivers could have got out of their car and left. so i don't know that that it's false imprisonment charge would hold up in trial. >> clark says as a former prosecutor, this will be overall a challenge in court when the defense argues for first amendment rights. i think it will be a difficult call for the da just how to handle these cases. >> because this is a very progressive community. we do respect the right free speech. but at the same time, we don't want to see public safety jeopardized. >> i'm sara stinson reporting kron. 4 news. >> 7.33 is the time and prosecutors are now charging 2

men who they say conducted a robbery with a deadly accident when they were trying to get away from police. the contra ing patrick sheckells from oakland for charges that include murder and also charging andrea albert ii of stockton with burglary last month. police say those 2 men broke into an l tobacco store and they made off in a getaway car. police ended up chasing them eventually getaway car went the wrong way on 5.80, near the bay bridge toll plaza and hit a pickup truck. head-on and actually another vehicles. well, and one of those drivers was killed. so now they're being charged with that. in addition to the robbery. well, there is a woman who is waiting for her big wedding day and her dress is gone. and police in redwood city would love your help to try to find it. a porch pirate

stole a package. and here's video from the home where this happened in redwood city. well, inside that package was the bride's dress. it happened last thursday night at 08:30pm, on adams street near madison avenue. it's about a half a mile away from downtown redwood city. so if you recognize this man the redwood city where police are trying to solve this. i guess before the wedding day because she does that dress back as $2000 for that wedding dress. you know, you go through everything. it's fitted. it's perfect. might not and where. all right. 7.34 is the time. >> businesses and political leaders from all across the country really are in dc right now working to try to secure federal money for resources back home in california. officials are there with them and how they want to spend that money. capital course by a town. last takes a look. >> well, hello from washington, d.c., and on the second full day of cap to cap. let me tell you, it was a busy one. attendees met with members of congress and other high-profile government

officials all to address key issues. we faced back home. >> kicking off the day with the plus more than 420 business and political leaders region. now in washington, - d.c., for the fifty-second annual capital to capital advocacy conference also known as kept a cat. organized by the sacramento metropolitan chamber of commerce. the four-day event includes more than 170 meetings with influential government leaders all with the end goal, secure billions of dollars in federal funding for back home. this is the place to be. let's invent the future. adressing the delegation. sacramento congressmember ami bera spoke about the need for economic development during a one-on-one interview. he said that must include a push to ensure money from the 1.2 trillion dollar bipartisan infrastructure law of 2021. continues to fund local projects for bridges, roadways and green technology does federal dollars. we want to make sure we bring that back

to california. bringing back to sacramento to la to san diego and those they think of those cities kept to cap. attorneys are asking for more federal resources to help with an issue in communities and on sidewalks like this one across the state. >> the issue of homelessness were in an urgent all need to address this issue. lisa bates is the ceo of sacramento steps forward. a nonprofit organization working to get resources to people experiencing homelessness. she's pushing members of congress to extend tax credits for low income at-risk families. >> and for tax credits to incentivize the creation of more affordable housing housing with services are instrumental able to to move people out permanently out of homelessness. in total, the conference includes 13 policy groups. each focused on a different issue from flood protection to education to food and agriculture also included the issue of public safety and specifically a plea for help to address retail theft.
