utah jazz in their last regular season game. and one more year father, he's honored in a big way. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning far. good morning. thank you for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. it's 05:00am on this monday. april 15th, i'm james fletcher inferring harvey. early hour. >> and we do want to start the hour with a check of the weather. we've got john shrable in the weather center for us this morning to see what the week holds in store a job pay. james, good morning to you. and we are looking outside at a cold start this morning. >> what a chilly weekend. unseasonably cold for april. we saw the showers yesterday. it was that cool. feel throughout the day today starts a very slow warming trend. we're not going to see in the 80's in this forecast, but we will eventually see some 70's. this is your look outside at the golden gate bridge this morning. skies are relatively clear out there. we do have a few foggy spots out towards the interior out towards the delta, our inland

valleys, aside from that, though, most of us are fog free and looking at some 40's and 50's for your morning temperatures. definitely cool enough to get outside with those layers on this morning. stay nice and cozy radar does show dry skies for the bay area. that low pressure that had been spinning off is now making its way out into the rockies. so it is moving on out of the picture. and from this point forward, this forecast is looking dry. so no more chances of rain, at least for the week ahead of us and the weekend ahead of us, temperatures will rise into the sixties today. we're going to hold on to those off of those 70's for just a moment holding on to them tomorrow. we will be looking at more in your forecast. still to come. so stay with us for that. as for your roads right now, things out there doing, ok, we aren't seeing any backups i've been looking at not just your bridges but elsewhere in, hey, glad to say on this monday morning. so far. so good out there. definitely light on the roads. as of right now, san mateo bridge at 12 minutes to get you across. the richmond

center fell at 7 and looking at the golden gate. things are doing just fine there as well. james. john, thank you. time now is 502. and in the north bay, police right now are looking for the gunman responsible for killing 2 women. >> in napa, that shooting happened over the weekend and proper is jack moment brings us reaction from the community. >> neighbors say despite the shooting taking place, they want to put it out there that this is a safe neighborhood that they've never seen anothing like this from a safe place to with her granddaughter's by her side of the park on sunday. guadalupe monzo says this is a safe place. she said, though she shocked that this happened like is not alike. a place to sue this things happen here. just get surprised i find out about police say the shooting happened around 8 in the evening saturday. they found 2 victims there. the potential shooter, nowhere in and we lost 2 young, you know, people frankford ellis says he heard

>> well, chaos in oakland to several sideshows take over city streets. this is video showing cars doing donuts at intersections. fireworks being set up here. we have a couple cars that were set on fire. local police say the sideshows broke out at several locations, including on claremont avenue and college avenue, alcatraz avenue and telegraph and derby avenue. >> at mandalay mandela parkway now police officers blocked the road near one of those sideshows were car, fred, forcing its way through a line of police cars officers say they did detain multiple people. happening today. people will gather at port of oakland as part of an international blockade of ports. >> these demonstrators are protesting the war in the middle east in support of palestinians. this is video from a previous port protest back in january where demonstrators demanded the u.s. and its support of israel in gaza. we will keep you updated on this protest this morning here on the kron 4 morning news. stay tuned. in

the south bay, san jose residents are urging the santa clara county board of supervisors to keep the regional medical trauma center open. city leaders are going to be joining the community to take action against the closure today. it will be at noon, the hospital's trauma center treats burned victims and as well as those who suffered from stroke or heart attacks back in february, regional medical center announced that it would be closing this center due to declines in patients. the er, though, is going to stay open. the board is set to vote on what the future of that center looks like tomorrow. >> from 4 is your local election headquarters and the race for congressional district 16 is being recounted started today. >> this is congresswoman and issues old seat and sam liccardo came in first and then we have low in just a minute and they're tied for second right now with 16.6% of the vote. each. it could take 5, maybe 5 days for this recount to be finished. and we'll see what those results show. meanwhile, a family run

jewelry store in oakland is working now to get back on their feet after a violent robbery. we have video from last wednesday showing several masked man armed with guns smashing glass cases and ransacking selling jewelry. the robbers then took off when the owner's husband came out with his own gun. the owner's son says most of the stores, most of the stores, inventory is now gone. >> this robbery you know that this past wednesday was probably one of the most brazen never before. we've had 8. if jewels rushed the business get away cars, we worked really hard for everything we've got, but we're going to be some type times they were able to get in we get back on own 2 feet. we're going to get back. we're going to get back to the community. >> well, jewelry has been in oakland's chinatown since the 1980's. the family store family says they're thankful for the opportunity that the community has provided them

with this outpouring of support. a gofundme page has been set up to raise money to help that family rebuild their business. >> well, to san francisco county jails are now on lockdown. the san francisco sheriff says this follows a number of inmate attacks on deputies. >> another jail staff. so the union that represents the deputies is demanding the immediate deployment of the california national guard. these lockdowns are happening at county jails 2, 3, the union says these jails are dealing with staffing shortages and issues with security. the sheriff's office says that 7 staff members have been injured by inmates since march. 29th. 2 different drivers hit a fire truck responding to an accident in fremont. it happened at about 7 o'clock sunday or saturday morning. it was on 6.80, near the and and draw the exit. crews were helping survivors when 2 different driver struck the responding fire engine. one driver was rushed to the hospital with minor injuries. the fire engine had to be towed to the chp is now

investigating. well, talk about the warriors as they are looking ahead now to the playoffs after beating the utah jazz in their last regular season game. >> the team also honored a father and son from the label after the sun died unexpectedly at game 8 at a game 8 years ago. kron 4 sarah stinson has their story. >> the warriors gave one fan the biggest gift of all by winning the last game of the regular season on his birthday, this win means even more to david nunez. he shares his birthday with his son who sadly died at a game back in 2016. he attended this game in his honor. >> dubnation packed into chase center sunday afternoon for the last regular season game against utah. david nunez got surprise with a jersey from the warriors while celebrating his 70th birthday at the game in vallejo, nunez raised his 2

children to be dedicated dubs fans. we've loved the warriors. >> forever and i brought them up. >> to be warrior fans. but in 2016 tragedy struck the family while in a playoff game at oracle arena, new news, his son justin suddenly passed away. justin was just 35 years old. collapsed. >> up the stairs, had it. pulmonary embolism and that can resuscitate him and >> i watched him die. despite the pain, nunez continues to go to games. he says it's what his son would have wanted. i still come to games in his honor, not bringing his son. his son and i went to oracle on the last game at oracle and first game here, chase a preseason game. my grandson i got union says he's grateful for the warriors who have been supportive ever since that fateful their special to us. they really treat us well. new year's is hoping his dubs can keep it going on the court as

back. time now is 5.14, and here are 4 things to know a correctional officer from sassoon city has pleaded guilty to taking bribes from inmates. the smuggling cellphones from 2021 to 2023. stephen crittendon was a prison guard at the california medical facility in vacaville. he pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced in september. a man is dead following a crash in antioch. police say the driver t-bone the lexus suv after driving into the intersection of west 10th street. he died at the scene. 2 women inside alexis were taken to the hospital. a man convicted of domestic violence and elder abuse has been sentenced to 3 years of probation in san francisco, otis mason was convicted of attacking his 73 year-old former partner earlier this month. mason was credited for serving days while in custody.

well, today is wnba draft day. the women's professional league is hoping to capitalize on a surge in popularity. the college women got more viewers than the men during march madness and the draft will include some of those big names, including iowa's caitlin clark. well, 5.15, is the time. let's get a check of the weather here with john in the weather center. as we're looking at week ahead. and wish we prepare for this week, john. yeah, a lot to look forward to this week, james. it's going to be a pretty steady week this time around last week. as you remember, there were a lot of ups and downs. we hit the 80's and then by the weekend we were back seemingly to the middle of winter. >> now it is a cool start to the week, but temperatures will gradually be on the increase. you can see outside the bay bridge right there, downtown san francisco, both looking pretty clear from this perspective, looking down from mount tam skies have certainly dried out across the region. there's the remnants of that low pressure area. still having resulted in a few light. snow flurries up in the sierra yesterday. all that

activity is on the outs. now, this high-pressure ridge building in from the west is going to result in a steady, dry forecast for us and gradually warming temperatures eventually getting us back into the low and even mid 70's by the tail end of the week. looking at futurecast a few clouds this morning today is going to comeeon with gradually clearing skies. so partly cloudy start and then a mostly cloudy mostly sunny, finish to the day. tomorrow is going to be another nice and clear one with some spots of morning fog. but plenty of afternoon sunshine. as for today, staying kind of cool. this is a below average forecast for this time of year with 50's out along the coastline and pretty solid 60's elsewhere. burlingame at 63 degrees today saying carlos at 65 south bay, temperatures close to 70, but we are going to save that number for tomorrow. fremont at 66 along with pleasanton and livermore. well, oakland on up through richmond each at 63 vacaville fairfield in pittsburgh, tied

among warmer spots, each at 68 degrees. same for you. and santa rosa. tomorrow's temperatures do get back into the mid 70's by the middle of the week, we are going to be looking at some inland warmth and comfortable temperatures right along the bayshore your second row there. lots of sunshine all the way through this forecast and not a single chance of rain. so we're settling in for plenty of outdoor activities and good chance to get back out in the backyard. as for your roads there are doing just fine. i've been trying to keep an eye on these making sure that that things get in the way just yet. and so far your monday role is actually looking really favorable. of course, it's still early. so we have a lot of time for that to change. but saint richmond center fell bridge only 8 minutes while the golden gate bridge novato to the toll plaza only taking you 19 minutes, james. all right. thank you very much, john. time now is 5.18, in santa clara county sheriff's deputy pulled over a car and found a man. >> allegedly impersonating a police officer. >> looking at footage of this

car on your screen right now. the officer pulled over the car with an expired registration for this traffic stop. and according to the sheriff's deputy, the driver was wearing a security uniform. that said police complete with duty belt and bullet proof vest. during a search of the car guns, math and lights used by first responders were all found. the sheriff's office says the man did not have a guard or did not have guard card on him. he was arrested for impersonating a peace officer among other charges. before minors were arrested in connection with a carjacking in fairfield this week. police say the incident was caught on camera and they could see the suspects traveling eastbound on travis boulevard from interstate 80 officers say they tried to pull the car over at peninsula avenue and followed that car into trayveon court from there. police say the suspects ran away. the car was still moving when they did that. all 4 suspects were eventually taken into custody. we're told

the driver had a previous warrant for his arrest. all right. take a look at this marin county fire crews rescued 6 adults and a child after a boat capsized into models. bay. this was saturday afternoon. firefighters say a voter was able to call for help. when they arrived, the passengers were clinging to that overturned boat. all passengers suffered from cold exposure and of there. we're evaluating, as you can see here by the paramedics taken away for treatment. well, this is video from a firefighter's perspective as they battled a house fire and stanley and really this helmet cam, alameda county firefighters say they put out the fire on fleming street in about 45 minutes. sadly, 2 families were displaced. they're going to find a different place to live. weed week is officially underway in san francisco. the event highlights 7 licensed lounges and stores over the next 7 days from 4 spoke with the creator of weed week. and here's what they had to i

making sure that infrastructure is strong. >> well, the money for these projects comes from the infrastructure law passed back in 2021, the grants are going to 80 different projects across the country. well, hercules police have arrested a san pablo man for allegedly driving a stolen car with drugs inside the hercules pd found that stolen car at a home depot thursday on sycamore avenue. they arrested the driver that identified the sample, a man or i should say they charged for drug charges after finding 31 grams of meth inside of his car. bart police say man died from a drug overdose at the walnut creek bart station friday night. police say they found him unresponsive on a train officers administered narcan while trying other lifesaving measures. but unfortunately, that person died. trains were delayed while emergency crews were working on scene there. we're going take a break 5.22. but coming up on the kron, 4 morning news, cinco de mayo just around the corner. we're

along with the taste of summer and then the fall back into winter. this time around just a gradual rise in temperatures looking out there at the golden gate bridge this morning, skies are clear from this perspective. we do have a little bit of fog towards the inland parts of the bay area, more so out towards the central valley. the rest of us, though, are looking up at some pretty clear skies. it's the school start low 40's up in santa rosa. low 50's and conquer dublin livermore. go ahead. get those light jackets ready to go on this. cool, but clear and relatively calm morning. now skies will stay clear today. we do have some partly cloudy conditions to start the morning, but increasingly clear towards the afternoon. so from this partly cloudy, start to a mostly sunny afternoon. daytime highs today are going to stay in the 60's. but we do have warmer weather just around the corner which i'll get to in your full forecast roadways this morning arguing. all right. we did have a very brief earlier issue on the bay bridge. it really didn't affect traffic at all, though. so it's that

has cleared up. now. it's just still staying at that 9 minutes, which has been at all morning long. san mateo bridge, 13 minutes to get you across right now. the go, richmond center fell and the golden gates are both looking clear and still pretty empty as of this 5 o'clock hour, james. john, thank you. 5 32 time in our top story this morning. 2 women have died after being shot in napa over the weekend. and now police are asking for any witnesses. >> to come forward standing by live in napa with the latest on this. michael. >> everyone will there still a lot of unanswered questions this morning after 2 women were shot dead in the streets, right? not too far from downtown napa and the killer still on the loose with police keeping a tight lip. take a look. we've got video from over the weekend. according to napa, police say that it happened at around 8 o'clock on saturday night. it's then that 2 young women were found shot in the middle of the street on the 400 block of riverside drive that runs along napa river. and it's just blocks away from downtown

that each woman had at least one gunshot wound and one died there on the scene while the other died at a nearby hospital. while police have yet to identify either victim neighbors tell us that these women were actually teams and at least one was in high school. take a listen. how residents reacted to the deadly situation. we lost 2 young. >> young people, a friend of mine knew the father of the child. it was my child. i would be i don't even know. words can it's pretty crazy. stuff like that. and we happened around here. you know, it's a pretty >> pretty calm area. i mean, i've been here 2 years and i've never really seen stuff like s been given n on his the shooter might be or the reason behind this deadly situation. but we are expected to get more information from the napa county. major crimes unit conducting the investigation as we get more of those details on who the victims may be or who the shooter possibly might be or

if an arrest has been made. we'll continue to keep you updated. that's the very latest reporting live in napa. michael thomas will send it back to james in the studio. okay. michael, thank you very much. 5.32 is the time happening today. the man accused of hiding a camera in a san jose starbucks restroom is set to appear in court. >> police say 35 year-old luc juarez junior plan to that camera at the location just off west taylor street and coleman avenue. officials say an employee at the starbucks noticed the hidden camera back on january 31st installed under the restroom sink. that employee called 9-1-1 and reported it by then there was footage of 91 people on the camera, including children as young as 4 years old. in the north bay, a correctional officer from soon city has pleaded guilty to taking bribes from inmates to smuggle in cell phones. stephen crittendon was a prison guard at the california medical facility in vacaville and for 2021 to 2023 excepted, he says bribes of more than $45,000 from inmates who wanted him to

smuggle in cell phones. crittenton pleaded guilty to bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds and is scheduled to be sentenced in september. he's now facing a maximum of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. in the east bay. a man is dead following a crash in antioch. police say he was driving in the northbound lanes of auto center drive. at a high speed when it crashed into another car. yesterday. it was just after 4. they say the driver t-boned a lexus suv after. entering that intersection of west 10th street, he died at the scene. police say 2 women in the suv were taken to the hospital and they're expected to survive. officers are asking any witnesses to come forward and explain what they saw. there's a bill circulating the state capitol now aiming to strengthen protections for victims of domestic violence. it's sponsored by state sen dave court st and supporters say it broadens requirements for a restraining order so that victims don't have to be in the same state as the person

they're filing the restraining order against over the weekend in san jose assault survivor spoke about how they were denied restraining orders in the past. >> we cannot feign ignorance anymore. cannot pretend statelines confined and domestic violence. we got pretend being in another town are being in. another state is enough to guarantee safety because before i was the founder restraining orders without borders. i was a victim. and before i was a victim. it was a normal woman with normal mingle and a very normal life. >> the bill is sitting in the california assembly after it passed the senate earlier this year. well, cinco mayo just a couple of weeks away. the holiday brings massive crowds out to san jose and hundreds of low riders plan to cruise the city. but last year, san jose police criticized how. they patrolled the event. they were criticized for how they patrol the mandate. kron four's jacked moment spoke to people in the low riding

community about what steps they say. the san jose police department for taking this year. eddie lewis with the united low-rider council. san jose was born and raised. >> and what he calls side way growing up in the side that fall, you >> we didn't have a brand new cars like other parts of san jose. so so he and his friends did what they could showed off what they so we wanted to show off what we can do besides, you you know, pick in the fields and stuff like that. >> he says he planned to celebrate his culture last year. cinco de mayo celebration in san jose. but being the wife went out for about 5 minutes and i saw that and we just took off and i want to part of it. >> what he saw was a huge police presence. in fact, officers arrested more than 100 people shut down multiple highway off-ramps. >> a public outcry followed calling sjpd is response discriminatory. lewis says it reminds him of low ratings past where this kind of activity with get you in

trouble. san jose and cruising for nearly 4 decades making it legal just 2 years ago. >> so they stereotype if standing had a card and >> you a criminal. lewis says have the low reading council have been working with san jose police for months at this time. san jose police named to the roads plans to close down and warned of potential traffic divers. it's something lewis says is a good move for transparency. yeah, i feel at ease. we asked san jose police for an interview today but they were not available. >> so the goal is now after all these community meetings between the low rider community and san jose police around 300 of these low riders will be successfully cruising down the street of san jose on cinco de mayo. and the plus is that the low rider community is working to build san jose police their very own reading car. in san jose. jackie moment kron 4 news. >> well, in san francisco, the controversial new a valley toilet is finally being installed when the public toilet was first announced.

first of 3 hearings in an effort to get his conviction overturned. peterson was convicted back in 2000 for the murder of his wife, laci and their unborn child. connor peterson has maintained his innocence. he is currently serving life in prison. was earlier this year, the los angeles innocence project which takes on cases that it believes led to wrongful convictions, took on peterson's case lawyers. they're are asking a judge to approve new dna testing and that evidence be reexamined. fire crews in oakland put out a garage fire that they say started from lithium battery combustion. this was yesterday afternoon. the fire happened at the corner of east 21st in 19th avenues about 1 o'clock. firefighters say the heavy fire as they described it started in the garage of a 2 story building. but it was contained before it grew out of control. no injuries were reported. and from our state capitol to our nation's capital, we have hundreds of businesses and political leaders from california in
