get you a check. your 4 zone forecast taking a live look at sfo this evening. we saw some rain moving through the area today. looks like it might be clearing out now. gayle ong joining us a look at what to expect to go. >> a break in the rain for now. we will see some activity in the overnight hours and will be lingering into sunday morning. but not a washout like we saw late last night in overnight. you may have heard while you're sleeping, cloudy skies over in san francisco and we do see some wet roads are at the golden gate bridge and some rain totals from the last 24 hours. we did see some significant rainfall, half an inch in half moon bay 0.6, 8 inches of rain in fremont. and that just over a quarter of an inch of rain in oakland and san francisco 0.6 7 in santa rosa and point in san jose even higher about an inch in our coastal mountains. so you may have woken up to that rumble of thunder. all of the heaviest part was in the overnight early morning hours. we see some lingering showers

today, state senator dave cortese talk about the bill which he sponsored. it would broaden the requirements for a restraining order. the bill would make restraining order. laws say you don't have to be in the same state. is the person your filing the restraining order against assault survivors spoke about how they were denied restraining orders in the past and say they were told it's because the perpetrator did not live in the same state. is them? >> we cannot feign ignorance anymore. cannot pretend statelines confined and domestic violence. we've got to pretend to be in. another town are being in. another state is enough to guarantee safety because before i was the founder restraining orders without borders. i was a victim. and before i was a victim. was a normal woman with normal mingle and a very normal life. >> the bill called sb 5, 5, 4, is currently sitting in the california assembly after it passed the state senate earlier this year. in the

north, petaluma police arrest a man for stealing a semi truck and crashing into a number of things before eventually giving up to police. this happened thursday night. investigators say the san francisco man hed still in a semi with a 40 foot trailer attached to it while chasing the semi and mcdowell boulevard. police say the driver lost control and smashed into a tree and a road sign. it was eventually stopped and booked into the sonoma county jail. 2 drivers strike a fire truck at the scene of another accident in fremont. fire crews say this happened around 7 o'clock this morning on 6.80, near the and ride a exit while crews were helping patients in the first accident, 2 different drivers then struck the fire engine. one of the drivers had to be taken to hospital with minor injuries. the fire engine had to be towed off of the highway. chp is investigating what caused both crashes. weve week is officially underway in san francisco. 7 licensed

here last week and make it all happened >> all right. having awesome time up there in the sierra. that was kimberly cruz reporting for us trnight. back here at home. we're taking a look at the bay bridge toll plaza where it looks like little bit drier than it has been throughout the day. gayle ong joining us with a look at the forecast. a gale. >> hello, dan. and we are seeing a break in the rain for now. we have partly cloudy skies out here from the east bay hills. but it was a soggy saturday. a start to it actually see, you'll see that satellite loop in a minute. right now. we're starting to see that post frontal showers. but we saw a solid band of rain starting late last night. this is the last 24 hours. and you may have heard it overnight while you're sleeping in the morning, too. so that was the story even saw some late afternoon thunder, convective activity as well. no reports of lightning as of right now from the national weather service. so here is where that activity is right now. 10:00pm hour we're starting to see and moderate cell moved through the coast here. so half moon bay, you

could seeing some rain drops and then you can see that yellow there, some moderate rain and maybe a heavy downpour approaching the santa cruz mountains. so it will be an overnight event, as you can see in our future cast. and it's tracking more south here. so redwood city and half moon bay, los altos, san jose. in about an hour, you could start to see some rain and then as i fast forward to about one, 30 am, you can see francisco. we'll see some rain as well towards fremont livermore and then notice the pink. that is snow on mount hamilton. so this is a cold system with all that cold air you may have noticed today we're on the cooler side of things and this is 07:00am tomorrow. so we start to dry out just a bit. but you could see some lingering leftover showers starting in the north bay for the late morning here, we'll see some cloudy skies as well. and then around the afternoon, perhaps a break for most of u.s. east of livermore could see some showers. so you just want to keep that rain gear handy, baby. not a washout, but possibly an umbrella and the jacket with the hood

tomorrow. 06:00pm. if you're novato santa rosa, napa valley, an antioch could see more showers as well. and then we'll start to see things clear out just some lingering clouds come monday and wages. see the 7 day it's going to feel like summer once again, we will see some breezy conditions as a front leaves mainly the pop around the overnight hours. that's when that strong south is expected to move through towards the south bay and then we start to calm down and the winds towards as the day goes by. so will be a bit warmer tomorrow. but talk about the weather whiplash. scene thursday, 81 degrees, the forecast high in walnut creek and then we drop down. 24 degrees today. 57 degrees was the high today. so, yeah, it's been hectic and pretty busy here in the weather center. temperatures right now. we're actually in the 40's and low 50's is actually close to the overnight lows. so that's just how chilly it has. so be starting off the day and the

for. next kicks off national park week with the free admission at all national parks, including yosemite and pinnacles, which you can find just south of the south bay. many parks already don't charge entry fees, but park officials are hoping the fee free holiday encourages people to visit entrance fees are only waived on the first day of national park week, which is saturday. april 20th, because of course the national park service has to get their funding. plus, you got to get those reservations. and all that sparks again. kind of tough to get into. all right. take a look at this. astronauts joining a renewed effort to explore the moon may soon get some new wheels. here's a look at the vehicle. it's called the lunar cruiser. it's being developed by the nasa lead project artemis which aims to once again place humans on the moon. toyota is actually working with heavy industries and the japan aerospace exploration agency to get the lunar cruiser up and running by 2031. the

far raised more than $30,000 to keep the business open. in san francisco, a man convicted of domestic violence, an elder abuse has been sentenced to 3 years of probation. otis mason is accused of attacking a 73 year-old former partner earlier this month. prosecutors say he punched the woman more than once inside their home, then chased her outside. she told police she believed she was going to be killed. district attorney brooke jenkins says jury's verdict delivers justice of the survivor, adding domestic violence will not be tolerated. mason received credit for serving 82 days in custody. and bay resident is under arrest tonight after driving a stolen car with drugs inside the hercules police department found a stolen car and home depot on thursday. they arrested the driver of a san pablo resident on drug charges after finding 31 grams of methamphetamine inside the car. also in the east bay, bart police say a man died from a drug overdose at the walnut creek station

last night. police say they found the unresponsive man on a train while doing routine patrol officers administered narcan will trying other lifesaving measures. unfortunately, that person passed away. trains were delayed while emergency crews were on the scene. all right. let's get you checked your 4 zone forecast tonight as we take a live look at coit little bit cooler out there. little bit drier than it has been throughout the day today. gayle ong joining us. look at the now. we have rain towards the south bay, but a around san francisco. but it is a chilly night out there. we still >> have this cold air mass from this system that really doesn't. we saw solid. they have the rain moved through since late last night and into the overnight hours. we see some dry roads here at the san mateo bridge. let's take a look at satellite and radar. we're now starting to see the post frontal showers phase of that storm. and a closer look on where that activity is happening. you can see over by half moon bay and even over by

2.80, there along the peninsula, seeing some showers move on shore. but the santa cruz mountains getting the bulk of that rain here. so this moderate cell is moving through as we speak here and check out one part of that. a heavy downpour just north of santa cruz is reporting an inch over an inch of precipitation rate. an hour so we could see some possible problems there in the short term. and then you can see just about a 0.6, 5 over in half an inch of rain an hour. you normally you notice we get that in a day. if i were lucky. let's go to the sierra where there are snow showers there. more snow for the spring skiers and riders. and let's take a look at our future cast model closer to the bay area. so in about an hour from now, you can see moderate rain moving through half moon bay, redwood city, los altos as that front is now tracking south east. and then this is 02:00am. we'll start to see some overnight showers here and notice the pink. we could see some snow and our

local mountains, a mount hamilton. and then this is a 7.30, tomorrow morning north of santa rosa, the clear lake area will be getting some rain and that will linger into the north bay towards the late morning. and then most of us will see a break in the afternoon. but we could see some spotty showers, stray showers here around dinner time 06:30pm, around the battle of lake tahoe, antioch, and conquered. and then we'll finally start to dry out towards the evening and into monday with some lingering clouds left over and we will be clearing. there's plenty of sunshine next week. so as that front moves through, you can see notice the wind speeds will be seeing a pop around the overnight hours. that's when that moderate strong sell starts to move through towards the south bay. you'll notice san jose is seeing 22 miles per hour overnight. so you could hear the winds howling like some places last night and then towards the afternoon morning afternoon sunday, it looks like will be relatively calm. just a light breeze here in the low teens and single

and the biggest changes that sausalito now has evening services. the latest i'm returning to san francisco is at 6.55. in the evening. they have a full update online on their website. caltrans is preparing to close part of highway 101 to complete the next step and the construction of the world's largest wildlife crossing starting on monday and a hills, all southbound lanes will be closed from midnight to 5 in the morning. a southern california bridge is designed to create a corridor between 2 sections of the santa monica mountains providing safe travel for wildlife, including the endangered mountain lion population. >> we're saving an entire species from extinction locally. our mountain lions have killed by death for them. >> caltrans is planning these closures for a couple of months while they work on the southbound lanes and then switch to the northbound lanes. happening tomorrow.
