eta. originally was 4 to 5 hours. but right now they're telling me it could be an all day thing. and again, you can see those lanes closed and those cars all merging towards the left side to get on to 8.80. but again, those southbound lanes completely closed off. so we'll take a look at our traffic maps again. and i want to show you guys before you get to that actual incident. there's another traffic collision just before that. this is over in castro valley area. and it's right near the strowbridge avenue. those lanes are currently closed off. it's westbound lanes of 5.80. there's been an accident. chp is trying to get that cleared up. hopefully within the next 30 minutes to an hour or so. so overall is going to be a backup if you're heading from livermore dublin area and you can already see that on our maps. but taking a live look right now at the bay bridge currently from the maze to fremont street. a 24 minute commute. those metering lights do not appear to be on a live look at the san mateo bridge. 24 minute commute on to the peninsula and over by the

8:06 am
alternate routes while they investigate the crash at 805. let's go to the south bay now where traffic continued to plague the city of san jose. 13 people died in car crashes so far this year. we're only in the month of april and city leaders are blaming the wide roads. the speeding that seems to be chronic. we actually talked with the mayor about what the city is doing to try and prevent these deaths in kron. four's jack moment has the story. from a fatal crash on monterey road in january. >> to a man who spent months trying to recover but ultimately died in april after he was hit by a car off mckee wrote, we do everything right. >> we follow all the rules we wear bright clothing. and still, we have a lot of those polls. max siegel with the organization, families for safe streets says even when walking his daughters to school, it's just too close for comfort a close call can be. >> not paying attention to the intersection. san jose keeps track of its car crashes on a public database so far this year we have seen twice as many fatal car crashes
8:07 am
compared to just this time last year. so many of the through ways that run through san jose rack up quite a few deaths from bad data set. but none may be more dangerous that monterey road, which between 2018, 2023 logged 6 teen road fatalities here. when we just almost saw someone get right now that we're acts off the corner of monterey and tully and has been shot. >> cars driving into the bike lane. they're supposed to be separated by these posts. new work towards. designing our streets holistically. a public data also shows san jose's years long campaign to improve its roads like installing those bike lane markers and transforming final through ways in the summer. i grew up on this section of brandon road right here. a couple decades ago. you had 3 lanes and 3 lanes of cars going within 40 miles an hour in the city of san jose. recognize the problem here ended up reducing it to 2 lanes to 2 lanes and added in protected bike lane. one death one too
8:08 am
many when it comes to our roadways, people should feel safe. san jose mayor matt mahan says the projects are improving streets slowly but surely infrastructure projects are expensive and then the staff and actually carry them out there says he wants to hire more police officers, 4 enforcement and even the potential addition of security camera automatically issue first a warning. and then after the first 6 months a ticket, max says the city should not only focus on police staffing. >> but the design of the roads themselves. and so we need again to have a design, a design, our streets. >> that encourages people and forces people to behave better. now there's some funding set aside to improve. king wrote that's an east side, san jose and yet another statistically dangerous road in the city. >> now regarding the security cameras, the mayor says that if city council approves those cameras, they would start with around 30 of them and placed them around school zones in the newsroom. i'm jack moment. kron 4 news. >> happening today, oakland international airport could at san francisco to its name.
8:09 am
obviously a controversial move that this afternoon the port of oakland is set to take a vote on that. san francisco officials, as you can imagine, not too happy about that fact. they're threatening to take the whole thing to court. kron four's will tran live at the oakland airport for now morning. >> least for now. but you know what this play might take off this afternoon. but the next destination will be a courtroom because san francisco has already threatened. if you change your name from metropolitan oakland international airport, which technically you might not know this, but metropolitan, it's the first word in oakland international that people call it open international. if you put san francisco bay in front of it, we'll see you in court. so right now it is still oakland international for the common people ride the common folk. we call it oakland international. but the part of a port of oakland, their executives who run this, they believe to clear up the confusion they want to add san francisco bay and they say reason being oakland
8:10 am
technically sits on san francisco bay that 60% of the population that big big population in the bay area resides in the east bay. and that is oakland. they also say that people from oakland, the residents are quite comfortable putting the words san francisco in front of their hometown. oakland. they don't have a problem with it, they say. but san francisco does. san mateo county. they also have a problem as well because sfo sits and san mateo county. so nobody on the other side of the bay is happy about this. it's supposed to clear up confusion, but i talked to a traveler. she believes if you put san francisco bay. well, that adds another confusion for those wondering which san francisco. >> i can understand from people coming out of town that it would feel may be confusing. so i don't have a strong opinion better, but i can understand the concern that would be confusing to people. get in the bay area.
8:11 am
so big and a large that to call it san francisco, just if you don't know anything might confuse you. okay. so obviously nobody owns the words. san francisco, it's public domain. but according to city attorneys for the city >> of san francisco, they say sfo owns the name san francisco and they say that if they change into san francisco bay, it's basically infringing on that particular copyright and they plan to take that before a judge. james reyna, the army is even if oakland changes their name to san francisco bay, their code will still a k and just add one more bit of irony on this san francisco, san francisco international is not in san francisco. it's in san mateo county. back to all right. thank you very much, miles and pieces here. all is the time. also the news today. we have some uncertain times for a

once popular san francisco barbershop. >> the owner of blades co barbershop says that before the pandemic, they had a bustling business on columbus avenue right there in the financial district. but now they're seeing just a fraction of their old customer base. and they say that's largely because of people working more and more from home. now. they've started a gofundme page to try and keep their business alive. and this follows the recent painful decision to close or other shop out in walnut creek. >> it's probably one of the hardest things i've ever experienced in my life. they. set back from covid in. people may think it's over, but it's not over for us. you know, in a lot of other small businesses. >> well, the owner says the financial hardship has also kept them from expanding into the mission. rock development out near oracle park. they say they're hoping to get through these turbulent times by raising at least $100,000. we'll see what happens. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news. a live music venue in oakland is also at risk of

>> we are back 8.14, is the time. want to get back to that hot spot. yeah, it has been causing quite the delay over the east bay. michael thomas is that covered. good morning, michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. that's right. we are starting to see major delays. it's been like this since about 4 5 o'clock this morning. it's at the connector of to 38 northbound and 8.80, southbound lanes. you can see it's closed off completely. and you see lots of congestion and back up. in fact, i believe we have a photo of what the so we've got a live look right now of what the
8:16 am
scene looks like. so a big rig actually tipped over early this morning at around 3 o'clock in the morning. crews have been trying to essentially not only get it off of the road, but also clean up the fuel that had been spilled from it. so you see crews there. chp says when it comes to an eta of when the connector will be back open or when you can get back on to 80 southbound. they have no eta as of right now. so we're going to be on this all morning covering napa, taking a look at our maps. you can see there's even more congestion because there's also a traffic collision before you get to that connector. this is in castro valley of tears strowbridge avenue ending on westbound lanes. 5.80. that collision happened about an hour ago. so we're seeing some of those residual delays. we take a look at what the entire delays we may see in the long run will right over towards dublin livermore. it's starting to back up just a tad bit. so if you're heading out towards 8.80, you may want to actually take 6.80, in response to beat any of those delays. taking a look at some drive times right now, crockett to the maze. 31

8:19 am
until after 10:00pm. so you're dry during the day on friday. but friday night things will start to get wet. heaviest of rainfall moves mostly after midnight with some really strong winds, too. so pretty stormy late friday night into early saturday, pre-dawn hours on saturday, seeing some snow on our bay area mountaintops. by the time you're waking up on saturday morning, we actually do get a bit of a breather from all that before rainfall researches midday saturday and even an opportunity of thunderstorms later in the day on saturday. so capitalize on that calm morning on saturday. the rest of the day gets kind of dicey. we'll see a half an inch to an inch of rainfall across the bay area. most of this on saturday. so not the day to plan a whole lot outside. today is the day to plan a lot outside 60's and sf as well as at the coastline. most of the rest of us really rising well into the 70's foster city at 71 mountain view at 77 south bay. temperatures in the low 80's this afternoon and looking at the same low 80's well as danville up to ley as
