you're watching kron. 4 news. >> now at 10 from the bay bridge to mountain view at stanford and in oakland, sideshows take over the streets across the bay area. good evening and thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 10. i'm dan thorn. 2 people are in custody for of street takeovers that at one point closed off the top deck of the bay bridge in the early hours of today. kron four's sara stinson is here now to walk us through what happened at each of those sideshow. sarah. >> dance. 6 sideshows happened was in 4 hours. video from several of them right here behind me. we have that one on the bay bridge right there. each one brought its own kind of chaos and disruption. police departments in 4 cities and chp are investigating to see if all this illegal sideshow activity is linked to one another. >> i 3 sideshows across area

cause widespread disruption and chaos. the first began at 11 saturday night in menlo park. police say more than 100 cars blocked the intersection of willow road and new bridge street. they say around 200 people gathered there to it escalated when police responded. people begin kicking and jumping on the hood of an officer's patrol car has more officers responded. the crowd left the area. no one was injured and no arrests were made. another sideshow could be seen around 30 minutes later by stanford in palo alto. dozens of people watched as cars took over the intersection of coyote hill and page mill roads. police have not confirmed if any arrests were made. illegal sideshow. activity also happened in mountain view just after midnight sunday on middlefield road and bernardo avenue. >> police responded quickly which broke up the sideshow. police say 20 year-old woman from pittsburgh hurt her ankle

after she was struck by a car. no arrests reported. police oakland responded to 2 sideshows. the first happened just after 2 in the morning. >> there was one sideshow on international boulevard people set off fireworks as well. officers then responded to another around 02:45am, in the morning on park boulevard. police say when they arrived, everyone took off. no arrests were made. the last reported sideshow in the bay area involved more than 100 cars blocking the westbound lanes of the bay bridge. >> chp says this was just before treasure island around 3 in the morning. all westbound traffic came to a halt as people ignited fireworks and watch cars do donuts. a chp officers arrived. the crowd got into cars and drove off. >> chp says they detained 4 people, 2 of which were arrested and their cars towed. the 2 others are minors. they were cited. >> last year, the city of

oakland, the alameda county board of supervisors, both crackdown on sideshows with new laws, increasing the fines for those attending and organizing them. but in this case, only 2 people of the hundreds of that ended this this weekend sideshows got arrested back to dan. >> all right, sara, thanks a lot in the east bay, a tragic accident after a rollover car crash kills a 9 year-old girl and sense for other people to the hospital. this happened around 5.15, this morning near concord. the chp says the driver of the mazda was speeding when they went off the road near northbound 6.80, and highway to 42. investigators say 6 passengers were inside when the suv flipped over several times. some of those passengers were ejected from the car. a 9 year-old girl died at the scene and 4 women were taken to the hospital. police say the driver ran away from the crash. he is so far not been found. mateo county sheriff's transit police bureau is investigating a deadly collision involving a person and a caltrain. it happened around midnight last night in

san carlos. a test train on the southbound track in san carlos struck a person who was on the tracks for an unknown reason. the situation still under investigation tonight, the identity of the victim has not been released. that a national news today marks 6 months since the beginning of the hamas israel war and all across the u.s. today, there were marches for the hostages that are still being held captive by hamas, jewish organizations led marches in chicago in washington, d.c., and right here in the bay area. they're calling for the release of more than 120 hostages who remain captive by hamas and across the country. you can see people were marching in solidarity and for the international community to not forget those who were taken captive. >> i don't know the 4 we've got one cry. bring the hostages home. for 184 we've got one from really it,

>> and in the east bay, the local jewish community rallied behind the hostages. kron 4 photojournalist joe barton, a has the story. i'm here to show support for the hostages. >> they've been there now 6 months. >> we've been cooking the recipes that families and their loved ones have graciously put together. and their loved ones that are in captivity. and we're here representing them with some taste of love from home. so we have all kinds of cookies and sweets and goodies. and we're selling at our big cell and all the proceeds will be going to the families themselves and all those that have been affected. >> 6 packs. i grew up and keep the theme the southwest corner of it's one of the communities that were attacked on october 7th. and i personally know a lot of the people who are impacted by it murdered and kidnapped. and we are here

because there's still 133 hostages, innocent people who are in their saturday morning. have been held somewhere in gaza and the tunnels for 6 months to >> one of the survivors came out and told the story about the rape and the torture to the women and they're not all israeli women. by the way, there's americans there, too. every day that passes another person and it doesn't matter the nationality religion of the press and guys, what we need and this to end horrible situation. bring to the table that will bring the hostages bring much-needed relief and peace the speech. we need that i feel like in the last few days there's been some movement in the right direction closer to a deal. israel is pulling out troops. >> the messaging all around seems to be more positive. and i have to believe that they're going to come home. we want we

want we need to bring the to where was. happy but we can do to me we don't have least change all >> and that was tow bar reporting for us tonight. all right. let's get you a check. your 4 zone forecast. taking a look at coit tower. yeah. here in san francisco, a little a little chilly out there. gayle giving us a look at what to expect to go. >> yes, still a christmas night out there. we have a sea breeze kicking in along the coast. so i did step outside before the show. a little chilly in san francisco, but we will be warming up starting tomorrow. here's a view of the bay area. you see some clear some areas in the east bay and even the clearing of the golden gate bridge to and in the south bay. you can see it on our storm tracker here. our radar is pretty quiet. we saw maybe some isolated showers today, not measurable rain,

but we are now going to be under the influence of high pressure. so that will be warming us up starting tomorrow. temperatures out the door still on the cooler side in the low 50's. but we are warming at so you can see 2 to 5 degrees at them this time yesterday. tonight we will be i get down to the upper 30's in some valleys like in the north bay, santa rosa in livermore and parts of the santa clara valley. but we have that breeze going on here as well. we will have another breezy day tomorrow. but as far as the fog goes, you see clear skies overnight and into your morning drive. so that will be very nice. and tomorrow is a it clips monday. will we're going to be warming up to the 70's for inland highs and you can see the lows will be in the 30's in some inland valleys, but then take a look at tuesday. wednesday, we gradually warm up to 70's and then in our 7 day, you'll start to notice some 80's on the 7 day forecast. when i come back, we'll be talking more about the eclipse and how you can view it from here in

the bay area. back to you. >> all right. thanks. a lot of the bay area's gearing up for its cherry blossom blooming season. san francisco's japantown is going to be hosting the cherry blossom festival next weekend on the 13th. and then the weekend after that on april, 20th and today bidding has already opened up for the cherry blossom queen program's annual auction. this is a tradition that started in 1968. where a group of women are selected each year represent the japanese american community as the royal court during the festival. all proceeds for the auction go towards the cherry blossom queen program. still to come here at 10 o'clock, the push to switch to ev cars having a positive impact here in the bay area. >> how it's being measured. plus, the deadline for taxes right around the corner. how some americans use chatgpt this year. and when we come back, the solar eclipse is tomorrow. now nasa is getting ready for the phenomenon.

everybody's talking about it. tomorrow is the great american eclipse in scientists that nassar. >> not letting this phenomenon go to waste. here's isabel coelho on how nasa is collecting data right now. and tomorrow during the big show. >> astronomical project. nasa is visiting fort drum to fly drones during the solar eclipse measuring differences in the earth's atmosphere before during and after totality. all of our data >> is going to be brought together to look at impacts

along this path from mexico up through maine. there's going to be data collection going 5,000 feet. 66%. the scientists from the nasa langley research center chose to come to fort drum because the air space, it's not often that we're able to to take small uas like this in flight as high as we with the current most of the time us aren't aren't going over your 400 to 1000 so having restricted airspace allowed us to go you 9,010 1000 now at this drone is unlike anything nasa has ever used before. it's decked out with instruments that measure things like temperature, wind and atmospheric pressure. scientists will take this data after the project to better understand weather patterns during natural another example of something like this would be like, can a cash her up shun wildfires and things like that. we're trying to fill in all that knowledge. data gaps

location here. texas, ohio and maine, new york they are going to have the best of us. you know, i know maine has a perfect forecast. so even though we're not in the pash of totality, you could still see the partial so around 10:14am. that's when that view will begin. 11:13am, is when we'll see the maximum view. and then around 12, 15, that's when that eclipse will start to leave us. but it's kind of look like the moon is taking a bite out of the sun. so it's still going to be really cool. you don't want to forget the safety glasses. you'll need that if you happen from october when we have the annular ring of fire eclipse, you can still use the same one that if not, we have options and maybe a project you can do. here's the diy solar viewer. you may have all these items hanging around your home or office. a pencil foil, scissors, paper tape and a shoe box and what you're going to do, you're going to cut out to small holes on wednesday at the box and then you're going to take that piece of foil.

you're going to take some tape and then you're going to attach on one side of the box here. you're going to cover one of the holes there, too. and then you can take a sharp item like a pencil, poke out small, quell of the and then you're going to take that white piece of paper and you're going to put it back at the box and that's going to be that's how you're going to watch the eclipse. so you're going to put that late on there and then you're going to have to turn your back to the sun. and then we're going look through that hole and you're going to be able to see the moon make its journey across the sun. so this is nice. safeway and ice project. i did this for the annual are clips and it's a really fun thing to see. so hopefully you get to see it. we'll see if part of it. but it still really cool. and we'll have the nice weather as i mentioned. so we're starting to clear out here and take a look at our future cast. i don't have to pause this any rain or anything. this is that from monday until tuesday, we are going to be warming up and here are the overnight lows will still be chilly in places like santa rosa and livermore

livermore flirting with the lowl3rd low 40's upper 30's there. but everywhere else we're going to be east starting to warm up and then starting monday, will you'll notice a warm at the big time because we're in the 60's yesterday and now we're going to be gradually moving up to the upper 60's and low 70's and we will be breezy so similar to today as this affront is leaving our area. we'll leave us behind some breezy conditions, especially along the coast in the afternoon. you can see the numbers popping over to the 20's there and then you can see our 7 day forecast. just a sunny skies here. so tomorrow, 78 degrees for our inland and upper 60's around the bay towards wednesday, thursday and friday. that's when you're going to notice one of the warmest days towards the end of the week. but i do have to tell you the end of the week there is a chance of some unsettled so, you know, maybe friday, a small chance of rain. we're eyeing joy, the nice warm weather because, you

netanyahu says israel will do whatever it takes to defend itself. that update on the cleanup of the baltimore bridge today. crews started removing containers and the cargo ship that struck the bridge. crews are removing those containers to allow access to the part of the francis scott key bridge that fell on top of the ship this weekend. crews cleared wreckage from the site to give more container ships, port access crews will continue removing containers this week. if weather permits. 6 construction workers were killed when this cargo ship slammed into the bridge, the bodies of 3 workers have been recovered. tesla set to go on trial this week in san jose over the safety of its electric cars. the case involves a family whose 2 year-old son crash. the tesla model accident was pregnant. mom. the accident happened back in 2018. the lawsuit accuses tesla of consumer fraud for advertising. the model x as safe. the lawsuit also claims tessa knew about a defective design. tesla has

the night. any liability for the crash attempts to reach a settlement between the attorneys for tesla and the family have fallen through the court proceedings begin tomorrow. santa clara county district attorney jeff rosen wants to eliminate the county's death row. he is looking instead to re sentenced to 15 men now on death row to life in prison without the possibility of parole. roseann called the death row a, quote, antiquated racially biased error prone system. he says it also cost the state millions of dollars. 650 people currently sit on death row in california, which is the highest amount in the country back in 2019, governor newsom placed a moratorium on the executions. the state is working to move inmates out of san quentin's death row and in 2 other facilities. a former california resident is charged with setting fire to vermont sen bernie sanders office. federal prosecutors say 35 year-old shipped simonian formerly of northridge entered the building on friday, poured
