much the way of interference will get to some local clouds, maybe down the santa cruz mountains later on for today. but on balance, it's called mostly sunny for most folks. way upstream there. you can see kind of the outline of a little bit of a weak front. that will be a slight player in our sunday forecast which will talk about a look at those winds. calm the single digits. not a big player here. we do expect a little pop in those winds going right across the golden gate up through the carquinez strait later today. now here's that frost advisory mentioned until 9 o'clock. we always have a lot of that surface moisture. it was kind of left over after the rain that we had in the skies opened up and therefore it allowed may be some frost to kind of collect and some locations, basically every work inland out of the south bay, even in the north bay, too, but not near water. san francisco. 35 santa rosa at this hour. we have 38 for concord. so some chilly numbers still to be had some 40's scratching their the east bay shoreline. and yes, that is below what our numbers were from yesterday and for highs today, going to be very modest

at that spending most of the day in the 50's, despite the fact most people going to see pretty much wall to wall sunshine highs only looking about 60 for some of those inland valleys, even after a chilly start your saturday. looks like by sunday, a slight warm up with more that sunshine with the wrinkle. maybe some afternoon clouds that morning. forecast a bit. stephanie. >> san francisco firefighters responded to a house fire on treasure island around 7.40, last night. one person was taken to the hospital. the fire department sharing this video from the scene after the fire was put out saying it caused some serious damage to the building. the cause of the fire is under investigation. officials say the house was supposed to be vacant, but firefighters did find evidence of squatting and hoarding. no one was inside this structure at the time of the fire. person was hospitalized after crash and possible shooting on i-80 onramp in berkeley calls

into 9-1-1. reported the car had been shot up by somebody in a different car before it crashed. chp is leading the investigation but has not yet confirmed that the source of the victims injuries. we will keep you updated as we learn more. a san francisco restaurant owner plans to go on a hunger strike for a month over a bike lane he says is costing him his livelihood. that bike lane running through the middle of valencia street was first put in place in august as part of a pilot project. city officials said the goal was to improve safety for cyclists. but business owners on valencia street say that bike lane has cost them their parking spots parklets and overall business. one of those business owners is yet elsa. will he owns a middle eastern restaurant called yasmin. there. he says a hunger strike is the only way to get his voice heard. >> tried so many times to reach to the city. so many times went to the board meetings and i went to city hole and try to reach out and and nobody ever talked to in the only response i would get

most of the time is go talk to or from association. and every time try to talk to mobilize association refused to talk to him. >> he plans to start his hunger strike tomorrow. a man who survived the half moon bay mass shooting is speaking out. he was working at the mushroom farm where a gunman opened fire as four's terisa stasio reports he is suing the farm for not protecting workers. >> i have suffered a lot. >> do it to me. those done. >> i was 2 months in the hospital speaking with the help of an interpreter on friday, pedro perez shared how he lives in pain every day since the mass shooting in half moon bay on january, 23rd 2023 on that day. he says the shooter identified by police as disgruntled employee surely shao shot perez 5 times twice in the stomach and once in the arm hip elbow and face barely getting incident happened.

>> and still not working. >> he's struggling emotionally from going through the experience of being a witness to his brother's any struggling financially because the injuries that he suffered are preventing him from working. perez is now being represented by coach it pitre mccarthy. they're suing california terra garden corp, the owner, the mushroom farm. >> where pedro and jose worked for negligence and for wrongful death. perez's brother jose died that day leaving behind a wife and 4 children. perez says that they came to this country to earn money and spend time with his brother. we would put together and we would go to the store. we were inseparable. >> really all about. sure. inland nation's were >> showing federal government and the state of california to we're not spending few dollars more to help people that go out and hit the road that

tourney. joe coach, it says that they are asking for an undisclosed amount of money, adding that the lawsuit is bigger than just perez family. it's also for workers throughout the state and nationally who face similar horrible conditions after the shooting, it was revealed how the mushroom farm workers lived an empty container boxes with no running water, no bathrooms, no insulation or kitchen to prepare food to eat. >> the accused shooter allegedly opened fire because he was frustrated. the farm wanted him to pay $100 fine for damaging the machine used at work. his trial is expected to start in the coming months. and half moon bay theresa kron. 4 news. >> an east bay city celebrates the 4th of july without its official fireworks show this year. kron four's dan thorn looked into why. >> livermore city leaders say they're not going to be doing a 4th of july fireworks show at night this year after

thousands of people showed up last year and essentially took over the city. instead, they're proposing some daytime events that are targeted more towards the local community and some livermore residents we caught up with say they thought the influx will be good for the city and not having 4th of july fireworks just isn't the same. the 4th of july fireworks have fizzled out in livermore in a video shared on facebook. the city says after more than 12,000 people showed up last year, neither it nor the livermore area recreation park district can handle the influx this year. >> our events growing popularity has made it clear that the city or la rpd simply do not have the resources or infrastructure such as roadways and parking to ensure safe family event that our community can access. city manager mary anne marie siobhan also pointed out that last year, more than half of those people who came for the event were not from livermore. >> the flood of visitors took

over neighborhoods and traffic was snarled with people trying to find parking police chief jeremy young says with streets being clogged, it makes it difficult for emergency vehicles to get around. additionally, there was a high level of frustration. from those stuck in traffic and those who live in the areas impacted by the crowds. some livermore residents say they were surprised by the city canceling the fireworks show. they figure the city would want a lot of people to come. >> what would you not want to bring people things to the city here and have make more money why would they business in town? >> the other issue for some is not celebrating independence day with fireworks ignite. the city is instead proposing a family-friendly daytime event at the livermore municipal airport route. downing says that's not the way it should be. everybody want fireworks. before july. >> whole point of the whole life, the point. but i mean, one of being the family friends, kids look forward to

too easy. coffee? yup. >> as the a's prepare for a move to las vegas, they may not be taking their name with them and application for the las vegas athletics. trademark has been filed but not by the team. kron four's dan kerman explains who is trying to claim the name. >> it all started with this post suggesting that is the a's were announcing their move

to sacramento for the next 3 seasons. they were also applying for the trademarks to both the sacramento a's and the sacramento athletics. a search on the u.s. patent and trademark swept site confirms that. but what it also confirms is this back on march 6th, someone applied for the trademark las vegas athletics head. it wasn't the a's. we said let's file for. and so we filed a new one. got accepted. now it's and draw something. so last hopefully within 5 months will be the owners of the last las vegas athletics. >> you heard that correctly a's fan group, the last dive bar. one of a's owner john fisher's, most vocal opponents has applied for the trademark las vegas athletics. find it really interesting data. >> for over a year, right? they haven't applied for las vegas athletics. trademark. that makes you wonder. >> what does it make? you wonder? well, you know, there's a lot of rumors at the start that the whole las vegas

thing was just and will be having the a's do their work for them investigate. you know, expansion in las vegas. and so maybe case was never the final destination for the athletics. and so maybe it was always sacramento. you don't know. >> ryan johansen with the last dive bar says the reason they've applied for the las vegas athletics. trademark is simple. this is a team that's taking everything from us from has a fan base. they're despicable humans. as far as the front office, i don't care about the fans. it will care about the community. don't care about baseball. so we thought this would be a great way to just kind of. be a thorn in their side. and if they want the trademark, you know, and it gets approved, they got to go through to get it. johansen says his group should know in 5 months if they get that trademark. >> then he says watch out for what comes next. >> we're definitely excited about the possibility if we get that free market, there's a lot of fun stuff we're going to do with it. dan kerman kron, 4 news.

>> and this will also be the last a season for hundreds of vendors at the coliseum. sellers of beer, hot dogs and popcorn are now down to their final 74 home games for a long time. beer hawker and oakland native kendra thompson. the a's move to sacramento is heartbreaking. he says it's going to cost hundreds of jobs in food in his own. >> i grew up watch my father man. and it's like a dream job for me not much. it makes emotion. you want to yell strain. >> you know, you want to figure next move as soon as possible. >> thompson says there's other. there's always other places to be a vendor like oracle park. but he said it's just not the same feeling. he has no plans to follow the team to sacramento. all right. well, let's take a live look outside at mount tam, a gorgeous view of the bay that we're seeing right here on their city of san francisco. the right hand side of your screen. there a day. what are you keeping an eye on? >> you know, you look at that. you're not sure. is that hot or cold? is it warm or cold outside? we know it's cold.

but i mean, if you didn't know any better with that, become a sultry summer, almost so true little early, i guess to say that. but i was just look at the imagery there. so, okay, good morning, 70. good morning. all you know, we're going go into spring, though. you're gonna like this extended forecast. and as we're looking at things, almost tropical these puppy clouds off to the distance here and there's half moon bay for you. but make no mistake about it, we know better and you'll see these numbers. it's not spring or summer yet. still a bit on the chilly side. so upstream watching this guy here as a player on our sunday forecast, there is a chance we might see the flare up of some afternoon clouds in the hills. miybe a shower thrown in there. but as far as really much big change for most folks won't really impact your day. so for today, we see the buildup of some cloud cover down south santa cruz mountains. but most folks are looking at mostly sunny skies. then that wave comes by just referenced tomorrow morning. the interesting a couple little showers going on there before dawn, tends to stabilize the atmosphere. but with this little disturbance here that may cause with that lift being cause like that.

that's not a possible to see a shower. maybe it's overdoing it here. but those higher elevations particular because you get that up sloping, you get the cloud cover anyway, might get a stray shower up there. but with the populated areas are a little bit less likely or less of an impact. but it just want to mention that there that's going to be a player on sunday. won't have that interference, though. in today's forecast about those winds, there comes that pop right across the quirkiness straight this afternoon after daytime heating. but then more of an interesting wind pattern along the coast as you'll notice tomorrow, mostly and a breeze elsewhere. there comes those offshore changing the guard from a trough to a high in. you're going to feel the result of those temperatures in the extended today, sunny, a few afternoon clouds, chilly 60 for a high there with most folks in the 50's tomorrow, mostly sunny clouds in the hills. one again, note that early morning pop of isolated shower there. we showed you then with the daytime heating will see those clouds mostly in the hills and maybe a sprinkle thrown in there with a high near 60 warming up to the lower 80's by the end of

the week. coming up, how about that for a shot? 67 for a high. we're going go. san francisco. still chilly, though, today. 59 oakland, 62. meanwhile for san jose and you can see high temperatures there lower 60's for the most part, a lot of upper 50's as you know, love this extended forecast and like the warm. so yes, to keep you in suspense that you have to wait for bus all hanging. and so, you all you know, is high pressure is building. that's a good guy for you. like pro came to us and then we want the warm weather to come in soon. thank you so like a stephanie area. haha. >> all right. well, francisco's restaurant week is in full swing. it's an opportunity for restaurants to highlight. >> their most popular dishes and for people to find some new spots to eat. >> i think it's nice because it feels like a celebration across the city. one of things we work really hard at the golden gate restaurant association is trying to make certain that we have participants in all different neighborhoods across the city and also at all different price points. we have $10 lunches all the way up to $90

the kron. 4 morning news. thank you so much for joining us today. i'm stephanie lin. let's get you started this half hour with a look at our forecast with mister dave sphar. hey, there it. >> good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. the bright yellows work for you, stephanie, because today we've got a beautiful sunshine kind of weekend going on here. sunday might be some kind of intrusion of some cloud cover. as i mentioned up in the hills, got to keep that is an addendum here. but a look at sfo right now. no delays. look at the sunshine already. lighting things up very nicely. there. the breakdown today, although those temperatures reduced few afternoon puppy clouds, particularly in the santa cruz mountains, this go around and most readings during the day are going to stay pretty much in the upper 50's at that. all right. going forward as far as what storm tracker 4 has to say. clear for california. we are watching a weak system dropping south. that's a little bug in the ointment here. that's going to mess things up a little bit on sunday. 35 santa rosa. 37 for got about 44, for any off with 48. meanwhile, for san francisco, we do have that frost advisory still in place

covering most of the inland spots, not including san francisco, were areas near water. a look ahead for the next few days. hey, looking pretty much smooth sailing. look at that 70 by monday. and we've only just begun going to be warming up all week long. have that extended for you. but also check out your 4 zone forecast for today. stephanie. >> all right, dave, thank you. lawyers for a convicted murderer are attempting to have his death sentence reduced. the prisoner was found guilty of murdering 12 year-old polly klaas in petaluma in 1996 four's philippe djegal spoke with the girl's father. >> marc klass return to santa clara county superior court in san jose friday. his late daughter, polly, is convicted. killer richard alan davis did not. i don't think about richard allen davis. until something like this happens with his absence. court-approved davis's defense requested the hearing arguing his death sentence should be reconsidered based on new law that disregards previous sentencing enhancements. prosecutors say he is not

eligible and that the attempt to vacate a jury verdict is unwarranted. i believe that the criminals in the california system. >> have very powerful advocates. in sacramento. because there seems to have been a systemic. attempt to undermine. >> wall after law after law apparently accomplish 3 things. they seem to be trying to destroy 3 strikes. >> because this is all about sentence enhancements. this is exactly what 3 strikes was about. they're trying to empty the prisons and i believe the population is down to 77,000. inmates at this point and they're trying to eliminate the death penalty in 199 polly klaas was kidnapped from her home in petaluma during a slumber party. >> 2 months later, davis confessed to killing and burying the 12 year-old girl in a shallow grave near cloverdale. on friday, a motion was filed by the sentencing. another filed by

prosecutors disputing qualification the judge heard arguments but did not issue a ruling. marc klass never expected he would have to return to court for this case after davis was convicted. i think it's it's. terribly unfair because >> people like me don't i don't have advocates. i mean, he's got people going to court i think our prosecutors great, but he's representing the people. the only person here this representing pauley army and the other people that were. in the gallery with know this is terrible. this case returns to court at the end of may. >> in san jose, philippe djegal kron. 4 news. >> the city of san jose recently launched a program using artificial intelligence to detect unhoused people. mayor matt mahan spoke with us and how it works. >> and we have one car. we've got outfitted with a half dozen cameras were just beginning to test this one of

the things we found we actually didn't set out initially to do this. we're really focused on potholes and graffiti to start. is that these cameras are pretty effective at identifying where people are living in vehicles. this is on road only. we're actually not focused on tent encampments with this pilot. but on on roads were able to figure out when people are living in their car, rv. >> city officials say the technology is being used to better provide services for those in need. holmes advocates, though, worry that this will be used to push unhoused residents out. san jose. 2 palestinian owned businesses are teaming up with islamic relief usa for a fundraising event to support people in gaza. we heard from one of the business owners. >> want people to to know and understand that there's a lot of people that are suffering from this war in gaza. people that are dying. i'm getting. massacre right now. and it's you know, being that i'm i'm

full steam. it's incredibly sad to go on with our daily lives with over 32,000 deaths since october. >> he says he hosted a similar fundraiser at his restaurant in november saying that event raised over $30,000. >> we need a neighborhood mayor witb experience to rebuild our city from the ground up. >> and with that san francisco board of supervisors, president aaron peskin is officially in the running to be the city's next mayor. he holds his first campaign event at 11 o'clock this morning in san francisco, he released this campaign video on friday after filing the official paperwork to run for mayor. >> i think people know my work on behalf of neighborhoods of san francisco. i want to be a neighborhood mayor that honors every neighborhood in san francisco. i don't think that this is about progressives or moderates. this is about taking care of san francisco and being a mayor who knows

how. >> the best can enter the race along with incumbent mayor london breed supervisor ahsha stuff. i e nonprofit executive daniel lurie and former san francisco interim mayor and supervisor mark farrell. and now to a bill that's garnered a lot of attention in the state legislature and around the nation. it's been dubbed the right to disconnect giving employees the right to ignore communication from their bosses. after working hours, capitol correspondent eytan wallace spoke with san francisco assemblymember matt haney who authored this bill. >> well, certainly it's happened to all of us. at some point you've clocked out of work for the day. you've gone home and then. >> this happens. you get a call from your boss. you answer one new proposal. the legislature wants to give you a right. >> not >> the next time you get a call or text from your boss. after hours, you could have a formal right to ignore it. that's if assembly bill. 27. 51 also known as the right to

disconnect bill. >> becomes law. you've got to draw some boundaries here and there to make sure that people i can have time with their families and have time to recharge. that's why san francisco assemblymember matt haney says he authored the bill. if i think something that is very american. >> work hard when you're working. and sometimes as late hours, even but make sure that we have time with your kids and that your family also is able to come first. the bill would not make it illegal for employers to reach out to workers after hours. >> but it would require employers to establish a right to disconnect policy for their employees after work specifically would require bosses to define compensated hours and notify their employees that they have a right to disconnect during non-working hours. if companies are found to be in violation of this, they could face $100 daily. as for haiti, he says he's confident the bill will protect workers, but he believes it will benefit employers as well. it's good for california industries. you know, right now. >> california is going to find ourselves competing for a lot

your way. >> firefighters responded to a house fire on treasure island around 7.40, last night. one person was taken to the hospital. the fire department shared this video from the scene after the fire was put out saying it caused some serious damage to the building. the cause of the fire is under investigation. officials say the house was supposed to be vacant, but firefighters did find evidence of squatting in hardin. >> no one was inside the structure at the time of this fire. one person was hospitalized after a crash in possible shooting i-80 onramp in berkeley calls into 9-1-1. reported the car had been shot at by someone in a different car just before it crashed. chp is leading the investigation but is not confirm the source of the victims injuries. we will keep you updated as we learn more. have a says the restaurant owner plans to go on a hunger strike for a month over a bike

doing? thank you so much. how's your family doing? i were to okay. fortunately my mother happened to fly back from taiwan the morning of when that earthquake happened. so she missed out on that from my father was still there. >> i text him right away. he was ok out and tides on. but and where is your family based in taipei? kyle show. okay. got yeah. good good. so hopefully not too much in terms not too much of an impact in terms of the building damage sure out there because just to clarify for folks who are watching the epicenter of the earthquake was on the eastern side of the island where as the cities that we're just referencing here, more on the on the western side of so it not just tell us a bit, too, though. i mean, this obviously. >> a big shock, though, for many of the taiwanese american community as well as those in walk us through the effect that this has had. >> sure, i think i would describe the impact right now as very informed pragmatism, right? the town's people, as you know, we're really cautious after the last major earthquake in 1999, where there were thousands of casualties. but since then,

taiwan has made such big improvements in terms of building codes and infrastructure that is designed to be earthquake proof. and so we saw much more limited damages this time around. despite the magnitude of the earthquake. alright, that being said there are still hundreds of people waiting rescue, which is why it's important to keep fundraising and making sure we're offering our support as much as possible. what have you heard from your peers were out in taiwan right now? i would say everyone is doing what they need to be doing and that means some people are going to relief efforts. some people are going back to work or school. and i think that shows a lot of the trust they have in the mechanism be put in place to protect themselves as a society and structurally to safeguard against earthquakes like this. tell us a bit about how the tonys american federation of northern california is working to help with relief efforts right now share so nice american federation of northern california is a 501, c 3 nonprofit u.s. tab list in 1973. so we have decades of experience and connecting counties americans to each

>> well, bill that's garnered a lot of attention in the state legislature and around the nation. >> it's been dubbed the right to disconnect giving employees the right to ignore communication from their boss. after working hours. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace spoke with san francisco assemblymember matt haney who authored this bill. >> well, certainly it's happened. all of us at some point you've clocked out of work for the day. you've gone home and then. >> this happens. you get a call from your boss. you answer one new proposal. the legislature wants to give you a right. >> not >> the next time you get a call or text from your boss. after hours, you could have a formal right to ignore it. that's if assembly bill. 27. 51 also known as the right to disconnect bill becomes law. you've got to draw some boundaries here and there to make sure that people. >> i can have time with their families and have time to recharge. that's why san francisco assemblymember matt haney says he authored the bill. if i think something that is very american.

>> work hard when you're working. and sometimes as late hours, even but make sure that we have time with your kids and that your family also is able to come first. the bill would not make it illegal for employers to reach out to workers after hours. >> but it would require employers to establish a right to disconnect policy for their employees after work specifically would require bosses to define compensated hours and notify their emoyees that they have a right to disconnect during non-working hours. if companies are found to be in violation of this, they could face $100 daily. as for haney, he says he's confident the bill will protect workers, but he believes it will benefit employers as well. it's good for california industries. you know, right now. >> california is going to find ourselves competing for a lot of high skilled workers if we're burning them out, if we're not offering a work-life balance, we're not giving them protected time with their families. going to stand a job and and they're going to leave the california chamber of commerce begs to differ. in a letter, the chamber argued the

the oakland zoo. lily the tiger cub. he's feeling much better and will soon be moved to a forever home. the zoo posted this video showing lily rolling around in the hay engaging with the team of vets who helped her recover from bhne fractures over the last 6 weeks. she was brought into the zoo in february from the private facility. zoo officials say that will be moved to a different facility that specializes in big cat care that she's going to grow up to be a big one. keepers at the london zoo are celebrating 3 special deliveries, 3 endangered asiatic lion cubs arrived in mid-march. thanks to this cup cam footage. we can see just how cute they are as they grow. the cubs are cuddling with mama aria in their den only around 700 is yet to clients live in the wild. so the arrival of these

>> sarah says gor firefighters responded to a house fire on treasure island around 7.40, last night. one person was taken to the hospital. the fire department shared this video from the scene after the fire was put out saying it cause some serious damage to the building. the cause of the fire is under investigation. officials say the house was supposed to be vacant, but firefighters did find evidence of squatting in hardin. >> no one was inside the structure at the time of this place. person was hospitalized after a crash in possible shooting i-80 on ramp in berkeley. >> calls into 9-1-1. reported the car had been shot up by somebody in a different car just before it crashed. chp is leading the investigation but has not confirmed the source of the victims injuries. we will keep you updated as we learn more. a san francisco restaurant owner plans to go on a hunger strike for a month over a bike lane that he says is costing him his livelihood. the bike lane runs through the middle of valencia street and

flight bound for sfo from germany was forced to return to the airport due to a toilet that overflowed into the cabin. livermore celebrate the 4th of july without its official fireworks show this year. kron four's dan thorn looked into why. >> livermore city leaders say they're not going to be doing a 4th of july fireworks show at night this year after thousands of people showed up last year and essentially took over the city. instead, they're proposing some daytime events that are targeted more towards the local community and some livermore residents we caught up with say they thought the influx will be good for the city and not having 4th of july fireworks just isn't the same. the 4th of july fireworks have fizzled out in livermore in a video shared on facebook. the city says after more than 12,000 people showed up last year, neither it nor the livermore area recreation park district cwn handle the influx this year. >> our events growing popularity has made it clear that the city or la rpd simply

i e nonprofit executive daniel lurie and former san francisco interim mayor and supervisor mark farrell. now to a bill that's garnered a lot of attention in the state legislature and around the nation. it's been dubbed the right to disconnect giving employees the right to ignore communication from their boss. after working hours. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace spoke with san francisco assemblymember matt haney who authored this bill. >> well, certainly it's happened all of us. at some point you've clocked out of work for the day. you've gone home and then. >> this happens. you get a call from your boss. you answer one new proposal. the legislature wants to give you a right. >> not >> the next time you get a call or text from your boss. after hours, you could have a formal right to ignore it. that's if assembly bill. 27. 51 also known as the right to disconnect bill. >> becomes law. you've got to draw some boundaries here and there to make sure that people

i can have time with their families and have time to recharge. that's why san francisco assemblymember matt haney says he authored the bill. if i think something that is very american. >> work hard when you're working. and sometimes as late hours, even but make sure that we have time with your kids and that your family also is able to come first. the bill would not make it illegal for employers to reach out to workers after hours. >> but it would require employers to establish a right to disconnect policy for their employees after work specifically would require bosses to define compensated hours and notify their employees that they have a right to disconnect during non-working hours. if companies are found to be in violation of this, they could face $100 daily. as for haiti, he says he's confident the bill will protect workers, but he believes it will benefit employers as well. it's good for california industries. you know, right now. >> california is going to find ourselves competing for a lot of high skilled workers. if we're burning them out, if we're not offering a work-life balance, we're not giving them protected time with their

over the last 6 weeks as she was brought to the zoo in february from a private facility where she was discovered with those bone fractures. there. as officials say that will be moved to a new facility soon that specializes in big cat care up from a nap. yeah. just in in much better hand. yeah. happy to see that. and zoo keepers at the london zoo are celebrating 3 special deliveries, 3 endangered asiatic lion cubs arrived in mid-march and thanks to this cub cam footage, we can see just how cute they are. the cubs are cuddling with mom. aria in the dan. as you can see there, only around 700 asiatic lions live in the wild. so the arrival of little guys is seen as a positive step forward for their species survival. pretty cool stuff yet is this is like the animal block here. animal block. in air ith us, stephanie. we have line that we have pretty good forecast going on here for you. want to run through this real quickly.
