07:40pm, tonight. one person was rushed to the hospital for smoke inhalation. fire department sharing this video from the scene after the fire was put out and you can see there and the fire caused some pretty serious damage to the house. and official with the department says that the cause of the fire is under investigation tonight, but the house was supposed to be vacant. and while he says nobody was inside at the time of the fire, firefighters did have to force their way in. they found evidence of squatting and hoarding. take a look at this. police are investigating a major crash on an on-ramp to interstate 80 in berkeley. it happened earlier this evening at the ashby avenue ramp onto the eastbound lanes of the freeway. >> causing the 9-1-1 report that the card been shot at by another driver just before the crash. we've reached out to the highway patrol, but we have not yet heard back. san francisco restaurant owner is planning to go on a 30 day hunger strike to try to get a bike lane removed from in

front of his business owners among many merchants valencia street. they say that the recent addition of the bike lane is costing his livelihood. kron four's novello joins us now live in the studio with some details on this snow. well, vicki and ken, we've been reporting on the addition of the center running bike lane on valencia street since it was launched last august. we spoke with the owner of yasmeen restaurant today who says business has declined dramatically as a result of it. >> and now he's taking a drastic step to try and get the attention of city leaders implement this bike lane. the city removed more than 70 parking spaces along valencia street. this is a say it's deterred customers from visiting their stores and restaurants. a small business consultant claims since implementation. more than 10 businesses in the area have closed down the owner of yasmeen out who will says use of his parklet was banned. and since then he's applied for outside seating for his restaurant on the sidewalk. but there's been no progress or communication from the city on that front, either. so he's

going on a 30 day hunger strike to raise awareness, announcing it today on the side of its parklet. he's no longer allowed to use. >> we try to reach out to mta, will try to reach out to the city dpw, everybody. there's fuse to to come here and have a conversation. the only willing to talk to certain people on this in this area, but feel comfortable to support there agenda. it result for me because i'm a very peaceful person. put in that situation where just the only thing i could do is just by trying to spread the word. and just that the neighborhood know that that we're going have no voice. so for me, this is the only way for people to know about the situation. >> now i'll tools. wife owns a clothing store right next to his restaurant there wanting to get a permit so she can have some of her merchandise placed on the sidewalk as well. but they say those approvals have not come

lover here, love and all the stuff that we've had and out there. now things have the a kind of clear out around the bay area. temperatures going to get cold. in fact, are already dropping off or 41 degrees right now in livermore, it is 49 in oakland. 48 for april night in san mateo and 38 degrees now in calistoga. so these temperatures getting cold in spots already. in fact, frost advisory going up here in april. that's pretty cool. i think some of the growers probably worried about that in the napa valley. some of the wineries there to the frost advisory through safely in an app all the way over petaluma up in the hills. bergen, the east bay, too expected frost early tomorrow morning from walnut creek all the way down the little more into brentwood as well. so very cold night in store for the bay area. in fact, a cold start your weekend. chilly temperatures, 30's and 40's. i think as we look the next couple days, finally things going to settle down. looks like storm clouds are beginning to move out. should be a nice weekend ahead. but there is a ray of sunshine, even warmer weather

on the way. we'll talk more about that coming up. all right, lauren, thank you. a live look at sfo where a united airlines plane clipped wings with. >> another united plane while parking at a gate there. it happened last night. united says no passengers were injured. this marks the latest in a series of mishaps involving united flights and sfo. of course, early last month, a united flight to japan lost a wheel during takeoff and earlier this week, united flight bound for sfo from germany was forced to return to frankfurt due to a toilets that overflowed into the cabin. and the space said he will be celebrating 4th of july without its official fireworks show. livermore city leaders say that the decision comes simply because there were too many people showing up and putting a strain on city resources. they're now offering a new way for residents to celebrate independence day. our first and thorne joins us live in livermore tonight after getting some reaction. dan, we have a ways to go before the 4th of july, but do tell.

yeah, he's still a few months away. of course, that's not summertime. just yet. got to get through spring. but livermore city officials say they're not going to be doing nighttime fireworks on the 4th of july. and this is after. >> thousands of people showedo up last year and just essentially took over the city according to them. so instead this year they're going to be doing a community targeted event during the daytime. and we caught up with city residents here who thought that maybe an influx of be good for the city and not having 4th of july. fireworks is just not going to be the same. the 4th of july fireworks have fizzled out in livermore in a video shared on facebook. the city says after more than 12,000 people showed up last year. >> neither it nor the livermore area recreation park district can handle the influx this year. >> our events growing popularity has made it clear that the city or l a r p d simply do not have the

resources or infrastructure such as roadways and parking to ensure a safe family event that our community can access. city manager mary anne marie issue also pointed out that last year, more than half of those people who came for the event were not from livermore. >> the flood of visitors took over neighborhoods and traffic was snarled with people trying to find parking police chief jeremy young says with streets being clogged, it makes it difficult for emergency vehicles to get around. additionally, there was a high level of frustration from those stuck in traffic and those who live in the areas impacted by the crowds. some livermore residents say they were surprised by the city canceling the fireworks show. they figure the city would want a lot of people to come. >> what would you not want to bring people and things to the city here and have make more money off? why would they business in town? >> the other issue for some is not celebrating independence day with fireworks at night.

bit later on in sports night live. san francisco's restaurant week is in full swing. it's an opportunity for restaurants to highlight their most popular dishes. and for folks to find new places to eat. >> well, i think it's nice because it feels like a celebration across the city. one of things we work really hard at the golden gate restaurant association is trying to make certain that we have participants in all different neighborhoods across the city and also at all different price points. we have $10 lunches all the way up to $90 dinners. so it's really there's something for everyone. that's something that's accessible and nearby for everyone. restaurant week runs until april 14th. some restaurants do require reservations. >> you can find available tables and special offers at sf restaurant week dot com. >> rating sf we week is just like beer weekend restaurant week and all these other things that matter of fact rest where we and we week should be at the same time.

mushroom farm when a gunman just opened fire as our theresa stasi reports tonight he is suing the farm for not protecting workers. >> i have suffered a lot. >> do it to me. those >> i was 2 months in the hospital speaking with the help of an interpreter on friday, pedro perez shared how he lives in painhevery day since the mass shooting in half moon bay on january, 23rd 2023 on that day. he says the shooter identified by police as disgruntled employee surely shao shot perez 5 times twice in the stomach and once in the arm elbow and face barely getting on my feet since happened. >> and still not working. >> he's struggling emotionally from going through the experience of being a witness to his brother's any struggling financially because the injuries that he suffered are preventing him from working. perez is now being

represented by coach it pitre mccarthy. they're suing california terra garden corp, the owner, the mushroom farm. >> we're pedro and jose worked for negligence and for wrongful death. perez's brother jose died that day leaving behind a wife and 4 children. perez says that they came to this country to earn money and spend time with his brother. we put together and we would go to the store. we were inseparable. >> your is out. yeah, sure will. land nation's were >> shouldn't. federal government and the state of california we are not spending few dollars more to help people that go out and hit the road attorneys. joe coach, it says that they are asking for an undisclosed amount of money, adding that the lawsuit is bigger than just perez family. it's also for workers throughout the state and nationally who face similar horrible conditions after the

shooting, it was revealed how the mushroom farm workers lived an empty container boxes with no running water, no bathrooms, no insulation or kitchen to prepare food to eat. >> the accused shooter allegedly opened fire because he was frustrated. the farm wanted him to pay $100 fine for damaging machine used at work. his trial is expected to start in the coming months. and happening today, theresa kron, 4 news. >> we mayor with experience to rebuild our city from the ground up. >> aaron peskin president of san francisco's board of supervisors is officially running to be the city's next mayor. he released this campaign video today just moments after filing official paperwork to run for mayor. i think people know my work on behalf of neighborhoods of san francisco. i want to be a neighborhood mayor. >> that honors every neighborhood in san francisco.

i don't think that this is about progressives or moderates. this is about taking care of san francisco and being a mayor who knows how. >> peskin enters the race along with incumbent mayor london breed sir asha nonprofit executive daniel lurie and former san francisco interim mayor and supervisor mark farrell. >> after more than 40 years, $0.99 only stores are closing their doors. operators of the popular discount chain say they're not making enough money to survive. the closure will leave nearly 14,000 employees without a job. bay area locations include richmond, antioch, fairfield, in fremont. the discount store has a wide variety of items from household goods to groceries. one shopper we talked with says shop at other discount stores. >> i don't know what what's going on good to go it and know what's problem. looking to close it. i'm good. the bad and the ugly. >> and official closing date

sacramento a's and the sacramento athletics. a search of the u.s. patent and trademark swipes a confirms that. but what it also confirms is this back on march 6th, someone applied for the trademark las vegas athletics head. it wasn't the a's. we said let's file for. and so we filed a new one that got accepted. now it's and draw something. so last hopefully within 5 months will be the owners of the last las vegas athletics. >> you heard that correctly a's fan group, the last dive bar. one of a's owner john fisher's, most vocal opponents has applied for the trademark las vegas athletics. find it really interesting data. >> for over a year, right? they haven't applied for las vegas athletics. trademark. that makes you wonder. >> what does it make? you wonder? well, you know, there's a lot of rumors at the start that the whole las vegas thing was just and will be having the a's do their work for them investigate. you

>> police arrested a man accused of starting small fires around fremont and newark officers say firefighters responded to furniture lit on fire not far from thorton. middle school and then a fire at stairs that lead to an apartment building. then another piece of furniture set on fire during the search for suspect. police

30 lawyers for a convicted murderer, murderer richard alan davis are attempting to have his death sentence reduced. the prisoner was found guilty of murdering a 12 year-old little girl in petaluma back in 1996, from forcefully call. talked with the girl's father who was in court today in san jose. marc klass return to santa clara county superior court in san jose friday. his late

daughter, polly, is convicted. killer richard alan davis did not. i don't think about richard allen davis. >> until something like this happens with his absence, court-approved davis's defense requested the hearing arguing his death sentence should be reconsidered based on new law that disregards previous sentencing enhancements. prosecutors say he is not eligible and that the attempt to vacate a jury verdict is unwarranted. i believe that the criminals in the california system. >> have very powerful advocates. in sacramento. because there seems to have been a systemic. attempt to undermine. >> law after law after law apparently accomplish 3 things. they seem to be trying to destroy 3 strikes. >> because this is all about sentence enhancements. this is exactly what 3 strikes was about. they're trying to empty the prisons and i believe the population is down to 77,000.

inmates at this point and they're trying to eliminate the death penalty in 1993, polly klaas was kidnapped from her home in petaluma during a slumber party. >> 2 months later, davis confessed to killing and burying the 12 year-old girl in a shallow grave near cloverdale. on friday, a motion was filed by the defense to relitigate the sentencing. another filed by prosecutors disputing qualification to the judge heard arguments but did not issue a ruling. marc klass never expected he would have to return to court for this case after davis was convicted. i think it's it's. terribly unfair because >> people like me don't i don't have advocates. i mean, he's got people going to court for him. i think the prosecutors great, but she's representing the people. the only person here this representing pauley army and the other people that were. in the gallery with know this is terrible. this case returns to court at the end of may.

>> in san jose, philippe djegal kron. 4 news. >> san jose has launched a program that uses artificial intelligence to detect unhoused people. mayor matt mahan, talk with us on how it works. >> and we have one car. we've got outfitted with a half dozen cameras were just beginning to test this one of the things we found we actually didn't set out initially to do this. we're really focused potholes and graffiti to start. is that these cameras are pretty effective at identifying where people are living in vehicles. this is on road only. we're actually not focused on tent encampments with this pilot. but on on roads were able to figure out what people are living in their car. rv. >> city officials say the technology is being used to provide better services for those in need. homeless advocates worry that this will be used to push unhoused residents out. take a look at this. these aren't food labels are new labels. federal officials are making internet

first, chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a look at that warming trend. yeah, about that. now you can go surfing as you head out toward the coast and then skiing in the afternoon. up in the sierra nevada. we've got a little bit of both. and that's the beautiful thing. >> about california tonight. yeah, they're still seeing some snow in the high country. the storm system beginning to wind down just a bit. but round of snow as we head throughout the day today. you see it moving over the mountain tops. they're still chain up on 80 50 got to be careful there. but by tomorrow that is going to start to clear out. and we're going to be talking about so very nice snow to ski on probably the best last weekend to really ski on some fresh powder. after that, there's going to warm up and start to the lie. see a little slush up there on the slopes. tonight, looking like a good night up there. although things are going to settle down as we head in toward tomorrow, the storm system really affecting much of california all the way into southern california. they're looking at some snow up in that a hatchet peas and parts of the southern sierra nevada, numerous thunderstorms popping up, too, but here's forecast for you. going to be a cold

start to the day in the monterey bay. and you can see the area shaded in blue here. those are frost advisories up early on tomorrow morning by the afternoon, a little breeze temperature about 55 degrees. carmel by the sea. 55 in monterey. if you're headed that direction, 57 degrees in watsonville, southern california still have watches and warnings up there in the high country. but by day tomorrow, that all goes way 50's and some mid 60's and in the high country, other roadways can open up very nicely. tomorrow will be cold up there. but boy, that fresh patter is going to be something else. a couple of feet of snow falling across the sierra nevada last couple of days may not see another storm like this until next october. alright, temperature wise. how about this next couple days going to start to slowly warm things up. so that's really going to hold the snow in place. you could imagine this is lake level, but over the mountain tops going to be colder than that. so beautiful conditions of ski on that fresh powder. lots of sunshine into monday. warmer weather. that's going to be the trend as we head toward this next week, out the door. right now, you've got clearing skies around the bay area. the rain really has come to an

end. temperatures are getting outside. it is 43 in dublin. 41 in lemore starting to see a few 30's popping up into fairfield, calistoga down to 36 degrees right now. and we've got frost advisories going up tomorrow morning across the cold spot, especially inland and the north bay and the east bay. so watch out for that early tomorrow morning. that may be the last night. jack frost paid a visit to the bay area, but overall looks like the pattern begin to change just a bit high pressure going to start to build in. not just yet. still got to deal with some one more week system sliding on through. and you see it right here. just another one kind of falling apart as approaches the coastline. there's a slight chance it could bring some sprinkles overnight saturday night into early on sunday morning, but not by much. otherwise looks like high pressure will start to take over so long range forecast. that weak system sliding through behind that high pressure really takes over start to heat things up. and so we're going to be talking about some fantastic warm temperatures the coming days. but tomorrow, a cold start today, 30's and 40's to begin your day by day tomorrow. temperatures warming up only in the 50's and the 60's. but
