kron. 4 news at 6. thanks so much for joining us on kron. 4 news at 6. i'm vicki liviakis and i'm ken wayne. obviously a sad day. it's official after 56 years in the east bay. >> the oakland a's are pulling up roots and heading to sacramento. the team announced today it has reached a deal to play their home games at the capitol after this season. yeah, this after failing to come to terms with the city of oakland to extend their lease at the coliseum while the team prepares to relocate to las vegas in 2028 owner john fisher and sacramento kings owner vivek around the making that announcement this morning at sutter health park in west sacramento a's team president dave kabul explains why the team chose this location rather than playing their home games at the minor affiliates stadium in las vegas. we looked at a variety of options. obviously las vegas year, salt lake city, oakland. >> and we felt that this was

just a great interim home for the a's. we have a lot of fans in this region. it's a great location. we have a great partnership with the kings and the back and his team to really ended up being the best option for the club we have. like i said, we have a long-standing tv partnership nbc, california and the comcast and you know, they're an important partner in stakeholder in making that decision and they were very supportive of that. this location. >> ahead of the team's planned move to vegas in 2028, the park will host the a's for 3 seasons starting in 2025. with an option for a 4th. and while they propose moving in the past, this will be the first time a move actually takes place in 2014. the a's signed a 10 year lease to remain at the coliseum. and and then in 2018, the a's announced a plan for a ball park. it the howard terminal at the port of oakland by 2021. with no ballpark in place. major league baseball allowed the a's to explore relocation in 2023. the a's reached a deal to move to side of tropicana hotel on the strip in las

vegas and mlb owners approved that move vegas stadium not set to open until at least 2028. the team has been searching for a place to play when the current lease at the coliseum ends at the end of this season. well. that's a lot to unpack. we've got team coverage tonight on this big development that kron four's gayle ong is in the newsroom with more on what's next for the coliseum. but first, we're going to >> kick things off with kron four's. dan kerman who's also in the newsroom with reaction from the fans stand. well, fans have come to expect disappointment when it comes to the a's. and this is no different, though. unlike last year, shocking announcement the a's were moving to vegas. the move to sacramento was anticipated. >> i just want to say we're excited to be here for the next 3 years. >> a's owner john fishes announcement that the a's would leave oakland at the end of this season and play the 2025. 26 27 seasons that sutter health park in sacramento comes as no surprise to fans were not shot

if anything, i'm disgusted. >> it's just sort of it's not a shock. it's not grief. it's just sickening help. gordon is a former vendors at the coliseum known to most is how the hot dog guy. >> there's only one person who's to blame for this. this this process that can only certain be described as just symbolic. and that's john fisher. just more proof that these billionaires, they don't care about the consumer. they don't care about fans you know that they don't care at all. >> ryan johansen with oakland's last dive bar says not extending the lease at the oakland coliseum is what fans have come to expect from a's owner john fisher. didn't matter what the offer was going to be. jon fisher and mlb one. nothing to do with the with remaining in oakland are working out any kind of deal whatsoever. but anger from oakland fans isn't just level the day's owner, john fisher, but his friend run the owner of sutter health park, the minor league sacramento river cats and basketball.

sacramento kings for him to go and >> help facilitate this for the ace leave oakland faster than what they were expected to be a. it's very disheartening. and and they just point. >> ironically, it was rounded who's 2013 purchase of the kings saved that franchise from being moved to seattle. going forward. a's fans say they will continue their summer boycott of the a's and increase their focus and teams that support the city of oakland. we have events scheduled with the oakland ballers, the roots, the soul. >> and so there's opportunity is somewhat fill that void, even though that the way to says is vast and is huge. but there is going to be opportunities for people to still experience baseball and still get a sense organization that actually cares and provides back to the fan base. again. fans say the some are boycotting. the a's will continue and they may even bring that protest to sacramento. >> when the river cats play the a's minor league squad,

the las vegas aviators. that's later this month. live in the newsroom. dan kerman kron. 4 news. all right. now the question is what will become of the oakland coliseum? kron four's? gayle ong joins us now from the newsroom with that part of the story, gayle. >> can vicki, i spoke with an alameda county supervisor who says the a's moving will open the doors to new possibilities for the coliseum. but one former a's executive says the venue will be a quiet place. >> i wish that we were able to keep a's in oakland 4, 1, 2, 3 or more years speaking to us by phone, alameda county supervisor david haubert who has been in meetings with the oakland a's team executive says the focus for the future of the oakland coliseum will be to bring in as many events as possible. so just sporting events with the oakland roots set to play at the we're to support and to working closely operators to keep people

employed and to keep revenue coming in >> for also remembering a operations, one team that hopes to be part of the oakland coliseum future, the oakland ballers, the team's co-founders join kron for news at 3 thursday. we're excited to play every monday park. >> hopefully beyond that, you know, we're talking to the community were talking to the city. we're talking to the fans and we will do what's best for for oakland. we continue to be excited about the prospect of playing a game at. >> at the coliseum. if if that ever comes to fruition, we're excited to go see routes games there in seoul, games. you know, it's a beautiful ballpark. we want to see it activated. a statement from oakland mayor sheng thao reads in part, quote. >> we wish the a's the best and we'll continue our conversations with them on facilitating the sale of their share of the coliseum site. the city of oakland will now focus on advancing redevelopment efforts at the colosseum. there are 3 guilty parties here. john fisher, major league baseball and the elected officials of oakland

alameda county, former a's executive andy do weighing in on the future of the coliseum with the a's moving to sacramento, the you can see this book over my shoulder. >> it's called goodbye. oakland village, referring to a book he co authored about the history of how bay area sports teams like the warriors and raiders left oakland. as for the coliseum, do says several 100 workers from security management operations, concessions. >> and parking will be impacted. the coliseum was the last town square. >> left in open that people of all backgrounds could get together and celebrate their sports change. and now it is going to be a quiet location. >> and a council member, rebecca kaplan posted on social media, a list of possibilities to fill the coliseum space that she referred to an op-ed she penned 5 years ago and some ideas include affordable housing, a music venue and a convention site in the

that race will just a short time ago, low released a statement thanking his supporters saying that he's ready to advance to the general election to replace. and as you who is retiring loaded, not mention the two-way tie or acknowledge committee and in that statement, meanwhile, there's been no mention made at least publicly about a possible recount slow and somebody and have the right to request a recount. but >> the candidate who does that has to pay for it. the estimated cost is in the range of half a million dollars. we're going to hear more from both candidates tonight on kron. 4 news at 10 11 right now. time for 4 zone forecast. we have a live picture right now of a berry wet san mateo bridge, lawrence, this is like february outside, right? really is. i mean, the weather so cold. this is unusually cold storm now affecting the bay-area much of california to see the showers outside. couple of breaks of sunshine in between and now we're back to rain again. looking out

toward the golden gate bridge. another round of rain has moved back on shore. and of course, we've seen some beautiful shots of some mountain snow around bay area peaks her day in april. that is pretty amazing. so, yeah, it looks like tonight going to be kind of an active night out there. we've got this area of low pressure continues swirl along the coastline. and so it's wrapping that moisture right back in the california bay area included. we've seen some thunderstorms across the central valley and lots of snow on the high country. of course, snowflakes in our local peaks, too. so here it is taking it for a closer look. you see that next wave of moisture kind of just rotating on shore. that's a beautiful sunshine in between that of gorgeous blue skies. but now the clouds have rolled back in. and so here's where we sit. we are seeing again, another round of some snow moving into parts of the bay area. you look down to the south and you can see some of snow moving in across on the mountain tops in blue. yet plenty of that. they're more of that on the way in parts of the east bay to in the central valley, some wicked thunderstorms rotating on through there just north of stockton. so it has been a very active day around the bay

area likely to stay that way throughout the night tonight. tomorrow we'll still see some showers possible around the bay area, although i think there be much more widely scattered as we head toward the afternoon, in effect in parts of the state. maybe some thunderstorms as well. so a pretty interesting, though, we do have a winter weather advisory in lake county. further north. you could see another round of snow overnight tonight and even our local peaks to. and that continues up in the sierra nevada. of course, that's not unusual. but if you're traveling down the los angeles tonight, be careful. the grapevine likely see as much as 6 inches of snow. there down to about 3,000 feet. that could cause some major delays. guys, back to you. all right, lauren, thank you. coming up, why the city of berkeley is facing a fine from bay area air quality officials. >> plus, dozens of cease-fire protesters form a human chain to block entrances to sonny bill's lockheed martin facility. >> at one point that getting pretty heated with the facility employee.

>> dozens of cease-fire protesters became a human blockade to employees at the lockheed martin research facility in sunnyvale today. the group bay area, palestine, solidarity coalition started their rally at 6 this morning to protest the facility

supplying israel with fighter jets. missiles and other surveillance technology. about 250 people participated in that rally with 50 of them becoming a human chain that blocked employees from getting into work. some of them even lying in the road that serves as the driveway to the facility. the protest lasted for about 5 hours. and at one point during the rally, protesters say the man started speeding towards the human chain and got out of his car with a knife. they say the whole thing caught on camera. take a look. >> what you want present.

>> the video then shows the man getting back into his truck with protesters saying that he could park and walk in to get to the laptop. he says he needed to work from home with a nobody was arrested during the protest. a former lecturer at stanford university has filed a lawsuit against the school, a student and a fellow professor. >> this over accusations he was suspended and then fired because of a classroom lecture about the israel-hamas war and attorney representing america log-in says stanford violated its own personal policy by personnel policy, rather by issuing a statement about log-in suspension following pressure from students in the public university, president richard stollar says loggins quote, address the middle east conflict in a manner that called out individual students in class based on their background and identities, unquote. the lawsuit claims that long guns told the class he was not asking students to

pick sides between israel and palestine and its students did not conflate hamas with the palestinian people on guns have been suspended from the university since october. 10th. >> in the east bay, a search is underway tonight for the thieves. police say stole a car in antioch hospital parking lot happened tuesday afternoon at the kaiser permanente, antioch medical center on sand creek road. the victim telling police found the suspects tried to steal his car when he interrupted them. they confronted him which caused him to fear for his safety. that's when he says they drove away. police later found that car to nearby empty. no arrests have been made. meantime, kaiser permanente in oakland is partnering up with other businesses to provide private security guards for workers last month. the kaiser oakland nurse reported a similar crime. she says her car was stolen right in front of her after her shift ended. and she was just trying to get home.

quality management district finds the city of berkeley $130,000 for air quality violations. >> at its landfill site at cesar chavez park, the fines cover 7 violations in total 6 for failure in the landfills gas collection system and one for failing to submit emissions testing results. the district ordered berkeley to fix a number of problems including repairing gas collection. wells and upgrading inspection procedures to ensure that the city meets its obligation to protect air quality for the community. now to 4 zone forecast for the live look outside water droplets on the lens. i think this is a top of mount tam. you know, learn we know that mount diablo had some snow today. did any of the other mountain tops around the bay area? yeah, i think mount hamilton had a mount tam reports some snow there. in fact. >> even some reports of snow all the way down to 1500 feet. and that extremely impressive. up a very impressive specially in april. but that rain continue to fall outside

likely going to see some more snowflakes as we head through the night tonight. the kind of a really tomorrow as start to clear out your skies, you're going to have a look up toward the mountains and you can see some of the snow up there. >> up there, sfo been some problems out there because of the stormy weather. look at the delays over 2 hours in delays there at sfo, no delays being reported. oakland or san jose at this time. but yeah, that rain continuing to fall around the bay in spots. you've got some pretty good downpours and others. well, not so bad. but right now the temperatures at that. it is unusually cool. 42 in pacifica. 47 right now in san francisco. it is 41 degrees right now in an evening in april in calistoga, that is extremely cold for this time of year. give you idea of where we're going. so ally arctic system dropping into the bay area and bringing the rain showers across the bay area. now more snow on the way overnight tonight. it's going to keep going as we head through the night. but this low is going start to sag further to the south as we head in toward tomorrow. but not before leave behind more rain. some more snow popping up across the bay area peaks right now and more on the way

overall, though, that are low pressure will start to sag further south all the way down to southern california. they're going to get some more snow across a mini the mountains there. more rain in the downtown los angeles. cold air going to kind of settle in again, at least for one more day. that looks like after that things are going to park. but here's the forecast models show you some of these showers kind of wrapping around as we head throughout the night tonight, 8 o'clock you see some more scattered showers, maybe in the chance of an isolated thunderstorm. and yet you can see some more snow across local mountains. so it is going to be an active night tonight. tomorrow doesn't look like it's going to be as active. looks like it's still a chance of a few scattered showers, but not as many as what we had today. but well, you know, whether it's just so much fun. haha, it's just so i have some time years, but it's up and down and all around. that's really what makes it so fun to watch every day. you're always humble watching as it does things that are always amaze. there's some hail coming down on highway 1, 1, on one when i came into this. that right? yeah. i believe that's a sign of a thunderstorm and i would have taken video, but i was driving. thank you very much. license. choice.

continuing coverage tonight on the deadly earthquake that hit taiwan. >> the death toll has now risen to 10 people more than 1000 others injured. dozens still missing. tonight, the 7.4 quake hit early wednesday morning. more than 90 miles from the capital of taipei. it is the strongest that that countries experienced in some 24 years. one survivor arrived

now to our 4 zone forecast as we give you a live look of mount diablo is not you know, lawrence has been very busy. in fact, he's, you know, getting all the latest. >> right now, the latest and the because the weather has been. >> a pope or e as it were. >> we do want to say that we lawrence a little bit off guard this. report he was getting latest up-to-date to the second in from. absolutely. i mean, i mean, there's really some red fresh can get fresh. is the snow on the mountains, right? and we've what if outside today? more of that on the way. and we're going to see not only snow here, but we're seeing a ton of snow in the high country. so if you want to go for one more of those ski

trips, you're going to be able to sneak it in here in the next couple days on some fresh powder and probably a couple of feet of fresh snow up there. looking toward your 70 have in the background of the snow is coming down as we speak and more on the way overnight tonight. so yeah, i they are chaining up right now on 80. they're required have maximum chains on 50. if you're headed up in that direction, be prepared. that snow going to be on and off throughout the night tonight, all the way to bear valley, mammoth lakes. you're 70. you're seeing more snow in the high country right now and more on the way that low pressure center just swirling along the coastline and bringing that rain on shore. but really, this a statewide event, you can see that low said all the way into southern california says we have more snow and the land as well. cold spring storm rolli in some heavy snow. and yeah, boy, snow levels all the way down to about 1000 feet. that is extremely low for this time of year, 2 to 6 inches of snow above 2000 across across higher peaks when they add it all up, a couple of feet, maybe 3 feet of snow. so travel delays all but assured
