years in the east bay, the a's are pulling up roots and heading to sacramento. today the team announced it has reached a deal to play its home games in the state capitol after this season. after failing to come to terms with the city of oakland to extend their lease at the coliseum as the team is preparing to relocate to las vegas for the 2028 season a's owner john fisher and sacramento kings owner vivek. >> ranadive made the announcement this morning at sutter health park in west sacramento. a team president dave kaval explains why the team chose this location rather than playing their home games at the minor league affiliate stadium in vegas. >> we looked at a variety of options. obviously las vegas year, salt lake city, oakland, and we felt that this was just a great interim home for the a's. we have a lot of fans in this region. it's a great location. we have a great partnership with the kings and the back and his team to

really ended up being the best option for the club we have. like i said, we have a long-standing tv partnership nbc, california and the comcast and you know, they're an important partner in stakeholder in making that decision and they were very supportive of that. this location. >> ahead of the team's plan moved to vegas in 2028, the park will host the a's for 3 seasons starting in 2025. with an option. >> for a force. we have team coverage tonight on the a's move to sack are gayle ong is standing by live in the studio with what is next for the coliseum. but first, we want to go to kron four's dan kerman whose live in the newsroom with reaction from fans stand. this hurts. yeah. well, you know, fans have come to expect disappointment when it comes to the a's and this is no different, though. unlike last year, shocking announcement that the a's removing to vegas. the move to sacramento was anticipated. >> the news was to say i was to say that last time our were surprised we were we knew this was coming. diehard fans say they're not surprised. a's owner john fisher has struck a

deal to leave oakland at the end of this season. >> and have the a's play the 2025? 26 27 seasons at this minor league ballpark in sacramento. this is an oakland fall. this isn't fans fall. this is only indication that john fisher himself has made will be in all. 29 other owners have signed off on. they're ok with the fans being treated as expendable as that. they never mattered. fans are also angry. the deal removes any leverage oakland may have had for the a's to sell their half of the coliseum or to get an expansion team. it didn't seem like the 80's or major league baseball were and all interested in engaging them about. >> i'm talking about an expansion team. so, you know. if that's the case, then this was never going to work and at that point, you're sort of like almost good riddance. i think that anger from oakland fans isn't just level the day's owner, john fisher. >> but his friend run the

continue and they might even bring that protest. >> to the river cats stadium in sacramento when they take on who else. but the minor league team of the a's, the las vegas aviators. that would be later this month in the newsroom. dan kerman kron. 4 news at all. sounds so far. all right. thank you, dan. now a huge question is what will become of the oakland coliseum? our kron four's gayle ong joins us in studio with that part of the story. gayle. >> no, well and grant i spoke with an alameda county supervisor who says the a's moving will open new doors for more possibilities. one former a's executive says the venue will be a quiet place. >> i wish that we were able to keep a's in oakland for 1, 2, 3 or more years. speaking to us by phone, alameda county supervisor david haubert, who has been in meetings with the oakland a's team executive says. >> the focus for the future of the oakland coliseum will be to bring in as many events as possible. so just sporting

events with the oakland roots set to play at the we're committed supporting to working closely. >> operators to keep people employed and to keep revenue coming in for. also remembering a operations. one team that hopes to be part of the oakland coliseum future, the oakland ballers, the team's co-founders join kron for news at 3 thursday. we're excited to play every monday park. >> hopefully beyond that, you know, we're talking to the community were talking to the city. we're talking to the fans and we will do what's best for for oakland. we continue to be excited about the prospect of playing a game at. >> at the coliseum. if if that ever comes to fruition, we're excited to go see routes games there in seoul, games. you know, it's a beautiful ballpark. we want to see it activated. a statement from oakland mayor sheng thao reads in part, quote. >> we wish the a's the best and we'll continue our conversations with them on facilitating the sale of their share of the-coliseum site. the city of oakland will now

focus on advancing redevelopment efforts at the colo seum. there are 3 guilty parties here. john fisher, major league baseball and the elected officials of oakland alameda county, former a's executive andy do let's weighing in on the future of the coliseum with the a's moving to sacramento, the you can see this book over my shoulder. >> it's called goodbye. oakland viulage, referring to a book he co authored about the history of how bay area sports teams like the warriors and raiders left oakland. as for the coliseum, do says several 100 workers from security management operations, concessions. >> and parking will be impacted. the coliseum was the last town square. >> left in open that people of all backgrounds could get together and celebrate their sports change. and now it is going to be a quiet location. >> council member rebecca kaplan posted on the social media list of possibilities to fill the coliseum space. a

your phone when news breaks. go ahead. another big story tonight was the weather. temperatures dropped enough. snow has been falling on mount tam, as you can see in time lapse kind of video. that is a lot of snow up there. >> sure is about 2600 feet. top 10. we also have seen snow and other parts of the bay area mountain tops. yeah, you've got some rain and then snow as you go higher. this is what it looked like in sandra fell a few hours ago. there were also strong wind gusts reported today. authorities are reminding folks to get those headlights on. if you have your wipers on and just use caution, it's going to be more slippery out there. chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here now with a look at what to expect. a pretty good system. a large. yeah. how about that? this probably the last time we're going to be able to ski our local peaks right over the day or so before it all melts away in a

lot of folks like to sneak up there and see that snow actually have some reports today. >> snow level all the way down to 1500 feet. that's amazing for april showers out there right now. looking from our mount tam cam where they did report a little snow there as well. now more rain beginning to move onshore is another band of rain begin to push on in the california that a holder of low-pressure just swirling along the coastline right now. so not just a bay area event, but really almost statewide again, as we're seeing that colder head in the sierra nevada, they're seeing some heavy snow there. some thunderstorms rumbling through the central valley, even parts of the bay area, some lightning strikes and now we're getting more rain bands moving on shore. so we've seen some clearing in between some of these clouds, then all of a sudden you see these rains, bam, push onshore again. and there you go. more storms rolling in. so that rain now coming in as we look toward the peninsula, more those showers just beginning to move onshore. you can even see right here. i want to show this to you can actually see a little spot here are the models are showing a little sleet the mountains there along the peninsula. so, yeah,

you know, it's cold enough. now that over the mountain tops the likely see some more snow as we head through the evening tonight. so i think places like mount tam, you're likely to see a round of snow, maybe mount hamilton, even more so as we're going to see some of that snow moving in your scene right now across some of the mountain peaks as well. so it is going to be on and off throughout tonight. i think a few more scattered showers tomorrow, though, not as widespread around the bay area overall, but i think if you're traveling around the state, you got to watch out for the grapevine tonight. there could be some issues. the snow level dropping their to around 22500, maybe 3,000 feet. so that could actually cause some closures there. look at about 6 inches of snow. so if planning on traveling down to la tonight, might want to take one on one just to be safe. guys, back to you. >> all right, lawrence, thank you. starting at 7 o'clock tonight, 2 eastbound lanes of the richmond sandra fell bridge will close for repairs on the lower deck. the lanes are expected to reopen at 5 o'clock in the morning. more closures are expected tomorrow as well. caltrans says the exact duration of the work depends on the weather.

the assemblyman evan low and santa clara county supervisor. joe submitting in. it's the primary race to replace congresswoman anna eshoo. that's right. so who joins former san jose mayor sam liccardo on the november ballot? well, reports say. >> it's a tie. which is unprecedented in california, especially look is already on the november ballot. so he's good with the door now open for assembly member evan low in santa clara county supervisor joe, some indian to join him in the race just a short time ago, lower released a statement thanking his supporters saying he's ready to advance to the general election to replace su who is retiring loaded. not mention that i or acknowledge some idiot in the statement. we'll hear more from both candidates tonight on kron. 4 news at 10 11. meanwhile, there's been no mention made at least publicly of a recount. low and some idiot have the right to request one. but the candidate who does so would have to pay

for the estimated cost is in the range of half a million dollars. >> joining us now for his thoughts on this is michael yaki, our political analyst. michael, did you expect to tie here? >> you know, and it was really close, but in my lifetime. i've never seen a tie in any california election. let alone a congressional election. it just goes to show every vote counts. and there are a lot of people who are probably friends of evan or joe going. i should have >> so it's the rule. here are all 3 now on the november ballot. art is the california election code? yes, all 3 will be on the ballot. >> unless a quick. and it sounds like a pretty clear that and was inside. i'm not going to challenge as for recount because i'd rather spend my undergrad in trying to get elected congress. we heard from joyce meeting and presume that going it alone without college end up with the same you're going to have a lot of people in their campaigns crunching numbers

legally call an election by pulling a name out of a hat. >> it's it's it's called ryan lot. it's done in about 28 states. one state has a coin flip. a lot of states in the governor make such choice. the board of elections makes a choice, but vast majority do what's called drawing but again, this is going to be really interesting because you have 3 very well known candidates, all of whom are probably worthy successors. and as you all of are going to be basing going after each other tooth and between now and november. >> if you're look michael, the former mayor, you sitting home kind of pleased with this outcome tonight because you would think if he had to face off against one of lower some indian. >> maybe everyone who are not everyone, but a lot of people who voted for one of them, which >> go to the other because they didn't pick look does look effectively have the inside track because now they have to split vote again. well, yes and no. remember

they've got about 7 months to get those votes to michael, i know will be continuing to >> chat with you we near the november election. thank you for joining us. >> politics can be so fun. the drama. and as we take a look at live storm tracker, 4 radar been a big z weather day in the rain, some snow. some hail chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. he's enjoying it. yeah, i would love a nice was walking outside and you the these clouds were looking so majestic. you have these cumulonimbus towers out there. these thunderstorms in the sunshine between them and then you get them so i mean, it's just a of the day. you all kinds of fun for weather guy like other weather, folks. but yeah, i need to see especially this time of year. rarely do you see storms this cold at this time of year rolling into the bay area. but here we are. you see the showers out there right now. a couple of rain showers out there in the middle of the bay and more to come.

>> they've been just kind of winding onshore. you get a couple of breaks in between the clouds and all of a sudden you get another round that rain moving in and there it is. your next band of showers moving in and even some thunderstorms popping up some strong storms in the central valley and that will continue to be the those storms rolling on by creating even more interesting weather. we're seeing some snow look at the santa cruz mountains right now % seeing a mixture of sleet and some snow even mount on a number on doppler radar is located seeing some of that snow in that direction, too. so it has been a very active day. it will continue to be active as we head throughout the night tonight with more scattered showers, the swirl that area of low pressure just kind of spiraling along the coastline. and so she's dragging that moisture in off the pacific and producing the showers on and off here all the way down to southern california. this doesn't happen that often either. we've some snow advisories up for the north bay. you've got to clear lake, you get up to a mendocino county and well, we're some snow in those locations as well. also, of course, in the tahoe area ton of snow in that direction. but if you're traveling to

southern california tonight, boy, you really got to be careful. you're going on. some of these areas get might have some issues here. we've got snow expected over the grapevine that the very low snow level as well could cause some delays. may be some times where they might actually shut it down as you expect as much as 6 inches of snow there. so just be careful if you're worried i would take one on one tonight just to make it safe. guys, back to you. >> thanks, lauren. still ahead here, truckers are outraged over rules meant to prevent climate change. those details after the break.

new federal emissions standards for heavy duty vehicles. the epa says the new rules will help address the worsening climate crisis. but a lot of truckers, warren, the rules will cost them and consumers serious money. kind of brett breaks down the controversy. >> the epa is cracking down on emissions from heavy-duty vehicles, including highway big rigs a big deal. it's a really big leland, but the environmental defense fund expects the new rules to have a huge impact. these new standards will prevent a good 1 billion tons of climate pollution from getting into our air and our atmosphere. but the companies that own the big trucks are not happy. it's going to be a travesty if it goes forward. chris spear is with the american trucking association. the timelines of targets in this rule are simply unachievable. the epa insists the new rules do give the industry time to adjust. they start taking effect in 2027 and ramp up through 2032, things rational dose of kaufman with the epa says
