good morning. thank you for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm james fletcher and i'm reyna harvey in for darya folsom today. the rain is here. yeah, slick one. it's a slight edge on has been warning us that today would arrive and sure enough here it is. and it's getting wet out there for some job board on. it only going to get weather right in the middle of the morning commute things are at their busiest out there. so anticipate it. >> may be taking a little bit longer than you'd unfortunately like for this thursday morning, drive what we got outside from the east bay hills. still some relatively dry conditions in this view right here. we're starting to see some more showers pushing in towards the coastline. now you can see out here up and down the mountains of the peninsula on into the north bay coast. and then right over the richmond, sandra fell bridge and then over san pablo enrichment itself. some showers moving in at this very moment for the south bay. we are seeing some rain mixed with snow fall up in the santa cruz mountains. but most notably right here east of san jose. obviously a lot of blue up there that is snowfall up at the lick

observatory in mount hamilton. several inches of snow to fall up there today. we're going to have some likely record breaking cold when we released those soundings a locked in really see what the temperatures out in those upper layers of the atmosphere. snow level falling to as low as 1500 to 1000 feet. that is cold for april. right there. we are going to be looking at continued showers over the next few hours between 67 really coming down in the north bay between 7 to 8 for the heaviest of rainfall for the bay itself. that includes the peninsula in the east bay shoreline. and then 8 to 9 for the inland east bay as well as the south bay seeing our heaviest of rainfall there, that places all this right in the middle of the morning commute. we'll still see spotty showers after that. but definitely between some peeks of sunshine. temperatures right now are in the 40's to 50's alameda and hayward at 51 degrees. oakland at 50 while berkeley down through san mateo sitting in the 40's right now as we move into the afternoon day time highs today will rise into the mid 50's. that's a full 20

degrees cooler. then we were just 2 days ago. i'll talk more about the timing of any remaining rainfall into the weekend. still ahead, michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. happy thursday will right now those roads are looking a little bit wet. so you want to drive slow? it looks like those metering lights are on at the bay bridge. but if you're heading into the city from the east bay, it's a 12 minute commute. things are moving smoothly right now. you can see san mateo bridge. it's a 13 minute commute from 8.80, to 101. some quick drive times those of you in the east bay. you can see everything seems to be green right now. the longest commute is 22 minutes and that san leandro to milpitas but livermore to dublin, 11 minute commute, dublin to fremont 15 minute commute. taking a look at some more bridges this morning. you can see richmond some rest elbridge. it's only a 9 minute commute. so that's really good. and lastly, that golden gate bridge, it's still at a 19 minute commute to get into the city rain. and james, we'll send it back to you. all right, michael, thank you for that. let's continue to team coverage of the rain that we're tracking. you just saw some wet cameras there. >> in michael's update is john

francisco in the north bay in sandra fell. if you're heading toward san francisco, you will have an easy right? and yes, you will be using your windshield wiper. not because of the rain coming down is because all that water in front of you being kicked up from the card front of you. that's about it. but so far, so good. this is a perfect time. if you have to head into the city, we do know the rain is on its way. keep you posted throughout the morning. back to you. i was thinking the same thing and leave. thank you. will letters across the bay area are demanding better working conditions. they are. in fact, a nurses rally at san francisco general hospital for those. >> better staffing conditions, especially out at laguna honda hospital. we actually have video sent to us from the union that we can share with you. and you can see here they're on the picket line, they say is shortage in nurses is putting patient care at risk. the nurses are accusing hospital. it not posting the accurate amount of job vacancies that represent the need for staffing. they also have submitted 1400 complaints

about missed a meal breaks and unsafe working conditions. meantime, in santa clara county, nearly 4,000 nurses took to the picket lines day 2 of their 3 day strike. >> they're asking for higher pay. this is video and the nurses were striking at saint louise regional hospital yesterday. the county is currently offering a 10 and a half percent pay increase over the next 3 years. the nurses are asking for 15%. county officials say nurses from across the county in iran in a calmer for those on strike, which has been really expensive. >> over 20 million dollars to bring in staff from agency to support patient care. and we have successfully oriented over 1000 individuals to help provide that care. >> today will be day 3 for nurses on strike in santa clara county. they're going to be out there. hope pushes negotiations for county. officials say the union has not responded to requests to schedule more marketing sessions. >> we'll take a look at the

man here in this video. campbell, police say he broke into a woman's apartment on apricot avenue last friday evening. police say the woman woke up to find him inside of her home. as you can see, quickly ran away. anyone who recognizes this man is asked to call campbell police. meanwhile, an update now to a story we first brought you on the kron 4 morning news where a teen is arrested now in the south bay after police say he was behind the wheel when it crashed into another car, killing the driver video shows the aftermath yesterday of yesterday morning's crash right near the intersection of neiman boulevard and elkins way. police say the teen was driving the black car. neighbors say this isn't the first time there's been an accident there and they're hoping the city can make some safety improvements. >> loud, very loud vehicle me up. and i do want to come out what i did. i hope this one. they will push some traffic light because all we accident. >> the teen is now in custody. no word if he was under the influence. that will be part of the investigation.

>> well, let's head to the east bay is a city of antioch. they're taking more actions to try to pump the brakes on illegal sideshows that we have kron four's theresa stasi. now with a closer look. >> smacked water shooting in the air disrupted nearby residents. that was the scene back in august. a car flipped into the water off of anti oxbow dock. police at the time say that the vehicle was involved in a sideshow. that electric a game >> that will open in close on its own. so it'll open in the morning close in the evening. that's antioch mayor lamar hernandez thorpe on tuesday, the city council voted on a new electric gate at the marina. that would close at night stopping cars in their tracks, looking to hold sideshows in the parking lot. >> people around the marina, their communities there. and so it's fair to them that people come and destroy their pe peace and tranquility. that's not right now. >> just this past weekend, the mayor says that more than 200 people showed up at a

sideshow. a lone tree drive in golf course road police moved in quickly dispersing the crowd. the mayor says that the department's police scandal where dozens of officers were put on leave for allegedly sending racist and sexist text messages and breaking other laws hurt their efforts to block sideshows. but he says that those days are in the rearview mirror that when the police levels were impacted by fbi investigation, we lost optimism. so that certainly had that it felt like that. we just opened the gates to sideshows here. >> but were quickly stepping up. we've got 6 officers in the academy 12 that will be entering the academy made our proactive efforts are are much more important having police officers dedicated finding. >> sitting down sideshows are organized that have been most affected. >> the mayor says the back gate is going to be in place very soon. also, the mayor says that in the most recent

sideshow, drones are flown and they captured video of license plates. they are going through those and they could be going after those cars involved, possibly towing them or issuing some pretty hefty fines. theresa kron, 4 news. >> ration is mounting for small business owners in oakland's fruitvale district after several shops in the public market were burglarized this week. okay. so take a look at these pictures. they show the damage left behind of the food, public market. investigators say 2 people broke into the market early tuesday morning. least 4 businesses were hit, including a bakery in jewelry store and a computer repair shop. we're just say these types of crimes that happened several times over the past few years. >> to see these these folks, you know, working every day. the frustration they have. and gas and like this happen, it's really disheartening. >> well, a nonprofit unity council which owns the market says they spent over a million dollars for security. now, the man in the city of oakland to

do more to help. take a look at this. a car almost crashed into a taco shop in the mission. this happened yesterday afternoon. and police say this might be the result of road rage. the car damaged a pillar right outside on 18th. and valencia. they say the driver left the scene and they later found the car involved then at 14th and that homeless streets. >> 2 eastbound lanes of the richmond, sandra fell bridge have now reopened this week, starting at 07:00pm to 05:00am 2 lanes will be closed for repairs. the project will likely continue until saturday morning. caltrans says the exact duration of the work, though, depends on the weather. so we'll save to wait and see if the rain. we're going to get delays. any of that work. meanwhile, 6.10, is the time and still ahead on the kron 4 morning news. this video is going viral on social media shows a filet, a woman getting her window smashed in broad daylight while she's in her car. >> a call to 9-1-1 and is within rest of the north bay

1500 feet plaster ville. that's about 800 feet in elevation, 1800 feet in elevation, expecting 2 inches of snowfall. that's saying something right there, especially this late in the season. now cold front swinging through this morning. low-pressure dives in right over head into the evening tonight. so this is going to keep things unsettled all day long today, although the heaviest of rainfall is going to be right in the middle of the morning commute 06:15am, right here. you can see most of our rainfall situated are right along the north coast. but as we make our way through the 6 to 7 o'clock hour, that line of showers just dives right into the bay area, along with some pretty strong winds, too. so heavy ra, stro winds, low elevation snowfall, continuing to pile up in mountains above the bay. expect multiple inches of snow on mount hamilton, mount saint helene at mount diablo this afternoon, we will be seeing some afternoon clearing, though, good peeks of sunshine later on today, which will be enjoyable for sure. a resurgence of moisture right around the time the sun is going out down tonight. we'll

start to see some activity picking back up tomorrow morning should be dry during the morning commute. still some wet spots from overnight showers, though. we will see a resurgence of rain tomorrow afternoon. chance of thunderstorm development briefly during the mid-afternoon for your friday. and then we calmed down friday night into saturday. really nice clear conditions saturday. don't cancel the plans. get out there and enjoy it. brief chance of some sprinkles sunday night into monday morning. you add all this up in the bay area will be between a quarter of an inch to three-quarters of an inch of rainfall. as for this year, it's multiple inches of snow. winter weather advisory is in effect as we speak 3 feet of snow to even 4 feet of snow at the very crest of the sierra nevada snow level drops to 2000 feet, if not lower and that means no bay area about tops 2. if you are heading to the sierra today or tomorrow, anticipate delays chain controls in effect. and overall, just slick snowpack conditions. today's daytime highs are going to be in the mid 50's the full 20 degrees

cooler that where we had been just a couple of days ago. so winter is made a big resurgence and stays with us for a couple of days. saturday is going to be a dry but cool one by monday for the eclipse. we're warming things back up and wasting no time doing so by wednesday of this next week, we'll actually be looking at some of our warmest temps of the season so far nearing 80 degrees. michael? >> yeah, good morning. everyone can't wait for that. 75 degree weather, right? well, taking a look this morning at traffic tracker for you can see that rain is already starting to play a bit with the drive times this morning can lots of green, but also some pockets of yellow and red. we do have a traffic collision on 101, northbound lane. so if you're heading up the peninsula into the city from the south bay, just keep that in mind. it's right before you get to holly street the right lanes on northbound 101 are going to be closed off for right now reached out to chp. they're working to get that cleared up. so we'll keep you updated on that. but taking a look at the bay bridge, our east bay viewers, if you're heading in right now from the maze into the city,

it's a 15 minute commute. you can see those metering lights are already on. so small, tiny delays. but again, it is raining. so you want to take your time. taking a look at some drive times, antioch to concord and 18 minute commute. normally around this time of the morning is what we see that green turning into yellow, then orange. if you are heading down, 80 westbound will right now from crockett to the maze. it's only about a 16 minute commute. excuse me. 18 minute commute. my eyes are sleepy this morning. livermore to dublin 11 minute commute, dublin to fremont 15 minute commute. 24 minutes when your drive from san leandro to milpitas. if you're heading to the south keep that in mind. menlo up. excuse me, milpitas over tucson valley sunnyvale. can't talk this morning. 7 minute commute. taking a last look over at 101 in the south. it's a 29 minute commute right now from san jose to menlo park. i'll send it back to you guys at the desk that they couldn't thanks, michael. 6.19, is the time in 9 people now been confirmed. >> killed following that deadly 7.4 earthquake in

street, police are trying to bring attention to the lack of livable wages due to rising inflation and food costs. so most food service employees contracted by say they arep living paycheck to paycheck and they hope this protest is going to be the first step in future union negotiations for them going forward. well, fast food workers gathered near the state capitol to celebrate their increase in their minimum wage. >> more than 30 workers as well as members of the california fast food workers union came together to talk about why they believe this law will now improve their lives. >> the rest of the country is watching what's happening in california. you are setting the standard that others will follow. now we love you but i we could happen. is good but okay for a long. the meanwhile, want

>> we are back 6.30, is the time here on the kron. 4 morning news as we have a live look behind us here. some cloudy skies over the bay. yeah. and a slick start out there on your roads. johnston actually tracking the rain coming in. john along is going to stick around. yeah, i mean, we've got the heaviest stuff still ahead of us this morning. so several more hours, a very wet conditions. and we are going to see on and off showers chance of thunderstorms for the 2nd half of the day and into even early tomorrow where we're at right now in san jose, skies are dark and very cloudy. we've seen showers in the vicinity

for the south bay already. and we are looking at our most widespread rainfall now officially sitting right over the peninsula on up into the north bay to these areas right here, really looking at rainfall picking up now in pockets of heavy rain right around american canyon here around richmond on up and down the east bay shoreline. to let me zoom in on a few areas that were actively seeing some heavier showers. as i mentioned right there along highway 37, we are seeing some heavy rain right watch out for standing water there. richmond center fell bridge very wet at this point. now, as is the bay bridge in the golden gate, san francisco seeing some showers pushing through in lighter showers generally south of there. we are going to be looking at some snow mixed in with all this, too. as you can see that purple south of san jose. and then most notably all that blue just south of livermore and east of san jose. this is the area around mount hamilton. the lick observatory well high enough in elevation to get several inches of snowfall out of this very late cold system. april,

typically don't see systems this cold dropping in. we'll see more rain pushing further inland over the next hour into 2 hours. inland areas will start to see it as well. so very wet right in the heart of the busiest time of the morning commute and we'll continue to see even between some clearing skies, a chance of thunderstorms on into the afternoon today. temperatures are well down into the 40's and 50's, if not some 30's further north in the bay area. cloverdale calpstoga kelsey bill right now down in the upper 30's. you head up into those hillsides and it's even colder than that. hence the snowfall we're seeing temperatures in the 50's for your highs later on today. we can see that way for a couple of days to some really chilly wet days. i'll talk all the details as we go. michael. >> yeah, good morning, everyone. well, you know, they say april showers bring those mayflowers taking a live look right now at the traffic tracker for lots of green. some small pockets of yellow. in fact, if you're heading up the peninsula in from the south bay, take a look. there's going to be some delays right here. northbound 101. the right lanes are going

about the a's. team executives met with sacramento officials to try to finalize a deal to play there until their stadium in las vegas is fixed lisa, the old alice m expires at the end of this year. krogers kerman spoke to some a's fans got their reaction. >> speculation continues to spread that the oakland a's not only are abandoning attempts to extend their lease at the coliseum passed this year, but they're in final negotiations to play those interim years at this minor league facility in sacramento. only sad because >> sacramento is really far and it's i don't know. a lot of the fans are going to go over there, sacramento, to see the environment. probably not going to be the same. so that's going to really sad. fans attending wednesday's a's game at the coliseum against the red sox were not surprised to hear the news. >> but some remain skeptical. i just can't imagine these guys playing in mind of a stadium sacramento, but it's 105 degree right? what wait to
