dan thorn. the flight was originally supposed to leave for aspen, colorado yesterday around 4 in the afternoon. and the initial delay was about 15 hours. but then again, it was delayed for another 2 hours. this is all according to the united airline's website and we have reached out to the airline to see what caused this delay. and so far we have not heard back yet, but this is just the latest mishap with united airlines. the faa has announced it is increasing oversight of the airline to figure out where it is falling short with safety regulations. kron four's sara stinson joining us live from sfo with the story. sarah. >> dan, the faa will be inspecting united airlines to see how it can improve safety. we're talking about pilots maintenance overall operation. the airline has responded saying if they actually okay with this, they look forward to hearing any feedback. the faa has. i spoke with a retired pilot to what this federal evaluation entails.

>> between an engine fire and losing a tire during takeoff. united airlines has recently seen a spike in safety issues. now the federal aviation administration is increasing oversight of the airline to see what's going wrong. the vice president of united corporate safety, sasha johnson, put out a memo notifying employees about an increased presence of the faa in the coming weeks. johnson says recent safety events have caused them to pause and evaluate whether there's something they can do differently. federal regulators will be inspecting united work processes manuals and facilities. it will be a top to bottom look at the operation. doug rice is a retired airline pilot. he's been flying for 53 years. he says it is routine for the faa to increase oversight after issues arise. >> and they will spend time at the airport. they will spend time at the training center. they will spend time with management and they'll ensure that what is supposed to be

done is actually being question will be whether the policies and practices that united our proven and whether there are flaws there and making sure that those flaws, if they're found are rice says the faa will most likely spend most of its time evaluating the airlines operation at sfo. >> for many of these incidents occurred partially because all the flights were operating to approach here, which is partly because san francisco is a major maintenance base. so they're going to see the additional oversight here. and that will be a a >> very big plus for the traveling public here in the bay area. >> the faa says future projects for united airlines may be put on hold, depending on their findings will have to see what they do. find in this federal evaluation. i'm sara stinson reporting live at sfo. back to you. all right. thanks a lot. and taking a live look right now at sfo. we could

see. >> the roadway there covered a runway rather covered with some rain. we did see some rain falling across the bay area today. gayle ong joining us with a look at the forecast >> yeah, 3, you're busy in the weather center. unsettled weather from now until tomorrow morning. and it should taper off late morning. so let's take a look at some rain totals over the last 24 hours. and here's a live picture. you can see cloudy skies, this view from the east bay hills, santa cruz, mountains south over an inch of rain in san jose. almost an inch half an inch for oakland and san francisco and 0.7, 3 inches of rain in half moon bay male valley, just more than a quarter of an of an inch of rain, significant rain. the last 24 hours and take a look at the radar and has been busy. this is at the loop from the last 3 hours. snow in the sierra and for now in the bay area. let's see where that activity is. it looks like the south bay right now is getting some of the heaviest downpours. as you can see, milpitas just west of 6.80, there and towards san jose. fremont is getting some downpours and then to the santa cruz mountains looks

like there could be a chance of a thunderstorm there. so we have unsettled weather throughout the evening. up more so isolated thunderstorms right now. you can just see the activities, more light, scattered rain, but temperatures out the door. a in the low 50's upper 40's and we are not much of a change. maybe like 2 degrees down this time yesterday. we have a bit of a breeze, this that onshore flow. now tomorrow, get ready. it's going to be breezy as this front leaves us. so tomorrow we'll have a chance of some rain activity in the morning and then we get through with drying trend for monday and tuesday. when i come back, i'll show you the extended forecast and time out that rain for you. to you. >> all right. thanks. a lot of developing news tonight out of eldorado county where one man is dead and another is hurt after being attacked by a mountain lion. happened in a rural area near the community of georgetown. we're going to shut reports. >> a 21 year-old man died after he and his 18 year-old brother were attacked by a

mountain lion. well, shed hunting in the area of darling ridge road this afternoon. the younger brother was able to dial 9-1-1, when deputies arrived, they outline crowds down next to a downed individual outline was facing the deputies and in attempt to get to the individual to render first aid, the dist charge, their firearms surgeon parker says they believe the mountain lion was shot before running off, but deputies were able to make it the individual day did. see that he was deceased. unfortunately, his younger brother was taken to a local hospital for his injuries and is expected to survive wardens with fish and wildlife responded to this area to search. >> for that mountain lion, the area is remote and densely populated with huge trees. search in parker says the mountain lion was still alive

when 3 trackers located it. he was eventually shot and put down. it's unclear what gender of the lion was. the investigation continues by nightfall. many locals in town heard of the attack. some say they've encountered mountain lions in the past on their property. our greatest condolences go out to the very just tragic of that in eldorado county rowena shaddox. teen wanted in connection with the killing of a driver during a police pursuit. >> has been arrested. the chase and crash happened last august when police spotted a car linked to several armed robberies. the teen driver allegedly sped off before slamming into 2 other cars, killing one of those drivers. police say they the team then took off on foot, leaving a passenger in a loaded gun behind investigators caught up with the suspect on wednesday. their name is right now being withheld because of their age. got some disturbing video

tonight making the rounds on the internet appearing to show a man carrying a possible and possibly eating a severed body. part of someone killed by a train and central california. we have a warning for you tonight. the video that you're about to see is a little unsettling. video was recorded following a deadly train crash and lasko which is about 30 minutes north of bakersfield. the kern county fire department said emergency crews responded to a report of a person being hit by a train around 8 in the morning on friday. not long after this video was taken allegedly showing run. to let is carrying a severed leg. and at one point he appears to take a bite of it. police were called to less, was booked on a charge of removing 4 mutilating. human remains. now to the east bay where investigation is underway after a person was shot and killed in an oakland gas station. this happened this morning around 5.45. in east 12th street. police did not confirm the gas station, but

there is a valero location along that stretch of street officers say when they arrived, the suspected already taken off. the victim died at the scene. that person's identity has not yet been released. >> hundreds of people walking more than 20 miles from berkeley to alameda today. this reflecting the distance from gaza city to rafah is crossing refugee camp. this far walk last 12 hours with stops for a collective prayer. those taking part carrying olive branch is a symbol of peace and remembrance. this event is a part of a broader global movement that's happening in 145 cities across 18 countries. >> and there were several congregations in the bay area 16. i think that have the cease-fire signs on their houses of worship. and so

we're mapping through all the different houses of worship in berkeley, oakland and alameda. that's new. >> the pilgrimage also calling on senators alex padilla and laphonza butler too, back a permanent and immediate cease-fire. police arrest nearly a dozen people for blocking roads near travis air force base. police say the protesters gathered on air base parkway in parker road friday morning. we're told the group had been warned about blocking traffic while they were standing in the crosswalk. police also say furniture and nails quote, fashion to to flatten tires were found dumped on some of the roads around the airforce base. police say they support the right to protest, but it has to be done without breaking the law. this was described as an antiwar protest by police. >> bigger the work that we're doing, that's helping a child in the future is coming here to play at this playground because neighbor who's going to kind enjoy that 9 trees that were planted today. we want to see what we see before

school substitute teacher is one of 6 men being charged for attempting to meet up with teenagers for police say josef martinez work to tennis in high school, teaching 10th grade english. he's accused of to to undercover cops who were posing as a 13 year-old girl. a spokesperson with the hayward unified school district tells kron 4 2 st are responded. swiftly and we immediately released him from employment. the district notified tennis and staff members and families of the development on monday, march 4th, all new h usd employees are subject to a department of justice background check. mister martinez is background check. did not return any problematic past behavior. take a look at the man in this picture here. santa rosa. police say he stole money from a chase bank on sonoma avenue. around 2 o'clock thursday afternoon. the thief has been described as a man in his 40 or 50's standing between 5 foot 8, 5, 10 weighs around 200 pounds, a reward of up to

we'll get into a quick dry pattern. and then we have more unsettled weather midweek next week and even possibly next weekend. so here's our satellite and radar to show you the activity that is going on right now. san jose and santa cruz mountains looks like they are getting some heavy downpours right now. but all the action is really to the high country to the sierras. you can see the western here is pretty busy them valley, rain mountain snow there. there's actually a winter storm warning and advisory along the western here. this is until 08:00am tomorrow. so expecting maybe over a foot of snow at the 4,000 elevation, 2 feet at the peaks. wind gusts of 45 miles per hour or so. just bring those chains. keep your those chains handy because that not advice travel tonight, but tomorrow they could be a just piling those roads and cloudy skies. there we that's really the pattern into the overnight hours. here's the future cast battle. we can play this in motion for you. so notice this is one 30 am. you can notice fremont in livermore could see some moderate cells move through and then 04:00am fremont livermore. san jose

it to ice and runny nose and also have a lot of propane. >> goodness, when you get that, the dry throat, the itchy eyes, you got to blow your nose constantly. you sound ridiculous when you get our genes right? the asthma and allergy association of america is advising to take a proactive approach. this includes closing your windows, washing your hands and wearing sunglasses sunglass golden gate bridge. transit officials approving a toll program that's going to make the prices go up for commuters starting july first, fast track is now going to charge $9.25. it will increase costs by $0.50 for 5 years until 2028. when it reaches $11 to cross the bridge. transit officials arguing against the rise say the higher tolls would help deal with another expected budget shortfall. but that ridership is still down. post-pandemic. we have some developing news tonight in san francisco. a person is in the

hospital after a car crashed into a bus stop. according to the san francisco fire department. this happened just before 5 o'clock this evening at the corner of park, presidio and fulton street. that corner serves as an entrance in golden gate park for residents of the richmond district. we're still working learn a little bit more information about that. but this crash comes exactly a week after another car crashed into a bus stop that deadly crash in the west portal neighborhood killing a family of 4. police are still trying to figure out what happened and what caused that horrible crash. well, today counter and said goodbye to part of their history. their phasing out there at 40 trains and replacing them with these electronic models. caltrain's invited to bay area residents to say goodbye by riding the cars just one more time. and they also handed out posters showing the evolution of the caltrain. from the first one back in 18, 64. and then you

fast-forward to 160 years later to the electric cars. very cool. ancient fossil discovery out of santa cruz is a good story and it wasn't done by paleontologists. they didn't find this bone actually this group of kids who say while were amazing, they're playing out the forest. these are students from terror, redwood elementary school. they discovered the fossil last spring and then took it to the museum of natural history to get a good look at it was that was recognized. expert has an arm bone from a giants law that is known as a mega lot for sony. the court experts it was between 11,000 years old and there are 300,000 years old. that's quite a stretch there. 11,300 1000 years old. and while they're proud of that discovery. well, today, pet this is your day to spoil your pop. it's national puppy day. you're looking at a puppy cam that's been set up an by canine companions. a lot of them a nap there. some of them

station. according nasa, the dragon is carrying 6,000 pounds of cargo. it safely arrive today at the space station. so mission a success. several private companies looking to bring back supersonic commercial travel. the company called boom looks to be the closest to bring back supersonic flights. their flights will fly faster than the speed of sound which is around 700 miles per hour. they say it will cut the time of a flight from new york to frankfurt, germany, for mobile, 7 and a half hours to just 4 hours. 15 minutes. unbelievable. who has a partnership with united airlines hoping to fly their planes with passengers on them by 2029, nasa and the aerospace company exo sonic. we're also looking to bring back supersonic flights. interesting. >> come up in cut in half like that. coming up here at 10 o'clock, the latest from moscow after the devastating mass shooting, how russia is responding. plus, spring is here. and as those temperatures are warming up,

welcome back to kron. 4 news at 10 today. a week water spout was caught on camera. >> around monterey bay. take a look at your screen. hear it might be a little hard to tell off there in the distance there, the clouds had enough circulation for the national weather service to say that this was a water spout. there it is. you can see developing off the top your screen there. yeah. you can see it moving to the left. this was video taken

at streamer lane and monterey and of course, with that, we want to talk about the weather out i guess it causes these kinds of situations to happen. gayle ong joining us with a look at what to expect a gale. >> hello. yeah. what awesome video. you know, there's also a funnel clouds spotting in solano county. so we are in that a spring-like temperature really felt like the spring-like temperatures we get in the midwest and the south time of year. but as you can see, we've been pretty busy on our satellite and radar. now that activity is starting to diminish and looks like we'll be left with some isolated thunderstorms going forward into the overnight hours. so let's take a look at where that activity is right now. san jose on this east of a line rock. you can see that a moderate south just moving through there and then to the sierra. that is actually where all the action is right now. a lot of snow up there and some valley rain. and here is a winter storm warning and advisory that's posted until sunday morning. 08:00am. so

largest inhaler producers have agreed to cap the price of their products. it $35 a month following pressure from lawmakers on capitol hill about 41 million americans rely on inhalers and similar medicines to treat asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. before this price cap american patients are paying 10 times more for the same inhalers as patients and other parts of the world. and my impression is that these companies. as well as many others in the pharmaceutical industry. but beginning to catch on to the fact that the american people are sick and tired of paying astronomical prices for the prescription drugs they need to stay alive or to ease their suffering. is the only company that has yet to commit to lowering the price of its inhalers. well spring. and with that, it means bears are waking up from hibernation. nancy loo reports

on how mountain towns are getting ready for more bear encounters. >> the start of spring, the end of hibernation means up to 40,000, california bears on the hunt for food and every year the remote village of pine mountain club becomes a bear magnet. so crews are at the ready with nonlethal tactics. the community actually has bear hazing patrols ready to help residents to scare bears away. in this case, fire nonlethal pepper pellets. most of the 2800 residents here also electric fences and maps which help with deterrence. wildlife officials called the situation in pine mountain. >> a human black bear conflict zone and this season is already trending worse than last year when residents reported over 500 encounters,

the massive mammals have broken through doors and windows and even through rooms in order to get to whatever food is inside. >> one house even burned to the ground after bear climbed onto the stove and actually turned it james weinstock has lived here almost 30 years. he says loves the bears and takes videos when they show up. but he is scarred from a close encounter with a hungry bear that ventured into still some fish. >> i had a baseball bat use the chase him away and it wouldn't hurt. it was one of those little kitty baseball bats came after me. i backed up. so and so you can see of it. now. but when a bear scratch is they don't scratch you like that. they have a big chunk of sure flashes con. >> i should let him finish the fish. james is fine and admits it was his fault for leaving the fish out with development

and wildfires cutting into the food supply for california bears. the bear battle keep spreading with hundreds of sightings and food thefts. even in suburban los angeles during the summer months, bears are often captured, enjoying backyard pools and some have even learned the doordash drill, snatching food deliveries before unsuspecting customers. even open their front doors. >> wow. wow. wow. all right. so they figured it out. all right. that was nancy loo reporting for us tonight. the 2024 olympic and paralympic trials for kayaking and canoeing kicking off at lake natoma this weekend. the best athletes from across the country competed in races with hopes of getting one step closer to the paris games. monica de anda shows us how day one wrapped up. >> well, this is a very exciting time for all the athletes here today. they've working for this moment, most of their lives. and you can see the support they've have

here at lake natoma. we parents, we have coaches, siblings, friends, even pets. everyone here showing their support and ready to cheer them on. >> among the athletes competing today was nevin harrison, the gold medal winner in the women's see 1, 2, 100 meters race for the 2020 summer olympics in tokyo. will team got together and we put up a live stream of her when she was winning the olympics >> it was just amazing to me that, you know, someone who i knew had been training really hard and someone that i had seen face-to-face was able to accomplish that. and it's just amazing to be in the same heat is here. it really makes me feel like i've accomplished something the paris games will mark. just the second time women compete in the canoe. kayak sport at the olympic level. it's a really big deal. and one of the youngest athletes here today tells us it is inspiring to be a part of this moment. i really feel like the sport will hopefully expand further in the future. and i feel like it's growing and to see all these women out here giving it all. >> and getting the opportunity to race. this just amazing reporting from like until the covering local news that
