>> i welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. we are going into the weekend here. a lot to get to ok. so easter weekend is upon us. in addition to that, we've got some rain this morning. john, i'm wondering how long has the ring and a stick around? yeah, the rain fortunately going to be here make those easter egg hunts all way. it's actually going to clear out really nicely by sunday. >> so some good news there. we've got to get some rainfall. at least we're getting it out of the way. but it is impacting your morning commute and that means taking a little slower out there. looking outside at the east bay hills. you have the rain coming down. there can see much of the view out there in the distance because of it. what we do have are some pockets of heavier rainfall. for the most part, it's light to moderate. there's snow falling up in the sierra

nevada, mostly in the northern sierra, especially north of lake tahoe. let's zoom in on the bay area, though. some pockets of heavier rain right now centered up above oakland and san leandro as well as around el granada and half moon bay. san francisco saw some heavier pockets moments ago. rainfall, intensity diminishing temporarily before the more heavy rain pushes in this morning. so this is having impact on the commute. things are slick out there at this point, though, we all know how to drive in it. you're pretty good at getting through those wet spots by now. we've got one more to get through. the rest of the forecast. looks to be dry. futurecast shows you these areas of green mostly indicating light to moderate rain, but also some yellow pockets popping up through the morning. those will be areas that rainfall picks up for only a few brief moments by 08:00am. we're already looking at showers really dispersing in by 10, 11 to noon. we're pretty much done with it. and that's great news for the giants home opener later today. first pitch is at one. 35 by then we dry back out

just a little cool and breezy. so don't forget the jackets. as for winds today, not an exceptionally windy day, but a few spots along the coast in in our mountains could see 30 mile per hour gusts. otherwise temperatures will be cool. so it's about the layers. the rain jackets this morning. the sweaters, just something cozy later on today. right now it's upper 40's to low 50's for current temperatures. we'll be keeping you updated on what we're seeing in the skies. brittany begley in this morning with a look at the roads, got to how's it going to if it's raining? we've got to be prepared right? >> so we headed out right now. take a look at your screen. this is 5.80, told one you can see 2 different stories. the first one is traffic is light. so we're still looking at 8 minutes. but you can see right here. it is a wet mess. so keep that in mind as you head out, the roadways are going to be slippery this morning. taking a look at the big picture. a couple of things that i'm watching right now as we speak. happening now, a wrong-way driver. this is a team north near alameda offering up. so you're going to see the fast lane is blocked right now as we speak. thankfully, i'm hearing right now. initial reports are

saying no one is seriously injured, but you're still going to see some police activity. you can take winchester boulevard to avoid some of those delays. if you're headed out right now in 24 walnut creek to 5.80, the good news despite the fact that it's wet, thankfully traffic is light. that's the good news for being up so early. we're looking at 11 minutes. but if you live in san jose, i'm just getting word about an overturned car. so during the commercial break and a check with the police department and re not going to an update in a detour to avoid that accident. coming up next. all right, brittany, thanks for that. contra costa residents may finally get some answers about a toxic release for refinery in martinez. that happened about 5 months ago. investigators say they plan to do some soil samples in tue areas where they believe toxic particles might have landed. four's terisa stasio reports while residents say testing the swell is a good step. they're a little frustrated >> so on our car on our garbage bins, the day after. >> what looks like ash fell

is is power and some comfort. we can planning and making next steps. and parents said that she had planted garden in our new backyard. but all of that is on hold. county health officials warned residents not to consume food grown in soil that could be contaminated. >> barrett says that it took several days for the refinery to inform the public about the 20 to 24 tons of spent catalyst released into the community now is really moving with the understanding of. something could fall from the sky from the refinery that is toxic and can cover your whole house. >> and we'll have could have negative health effects. >> several agencies, including the oversight committee city officials and the district attorney's office continue to investigate to determine if any laws were broken. the refinery owned by pbf energy says that it is cooperating with investigators. theresa kron, 4 news. all right.

here's a look at the latest drought monitor released thursday. only a chunk of new county. >> still experiencing severe drought. there's still some moderate route to the north and southeast. but that's it. all the yellow. you see our areas experiencing at normally dry conditions. just a little sliver of that reaches into napa county. the rest of the bay area is completely out of the trout. can't even believe that. well, compare that to just 4 months ago. this is that first drought monitor of 2023. john's talking about yesterday. the city had a lot of progress in contra costa county water officials are in the most restrictions, but people are still required to avoid excessive runoff while water in their yards and they're not allowed to water their yards within. 48 hours of rain. a cannabis store owners in san francisco say they are absolutely fed up with repeated robberies. they say they become easy targets and at the city isn't doing enough to protect them. proffers rob nesbitt has that story. >> the owners of cannabis

stores in san francisco say their surveillance video shows what appears to be the same group of people going from store to store in the city taking what they want, including one of the workers. cannabis dispensary say this is a scene that plays out all too often on their security cameras, a car full of suspects pulling up with crowbars to rob their stores, oftentimes armed with guns. chairman of the san francisco cannabis oversight committee elijah molly and says the store manager of stevie was taken at gunpoint during a recent robbery. the stories that was the recent victim of the >> kidnapping. so obviously worker safety is actually the very driving >> force. and reason we're here. >> dispensary owners joins a molly and thursday to call for change saying their tax dollars should be used to keep their stores and workers safe. re spent unknowns, posh green where break-in happened 2 weeks ago. have business that have the potential. i think taxes just like everybody else. >> i need the protection like everybody else. but when i'm coming to see this is not a kind of this problem. this is

we are continuing to follow developing story out of roseville. one person was killed in a shooting at a park. now the gunman >> is in custody at a hospital with gunshot wounds, another person and a chp officer were also injured. we're learning that 2 of the people involved in the shooting were taken to center health in roseville. mason morrow has that story. >> a devastating end to an attempted arrest that spiraled from the start. we do know we have 2 innocent citizens who were struck by the suns suspect's gunfire. during the incident. sadly, one innocent citizen was pronounced deceased at the scene. one innocent person dead, at least 2 other shot in a shootout that played out in just minutes at mahaney park in roseville. was bill police said in a press conference on thursday afternoon. at least one chp officer attempted to make an arrest warrant. you're behind the park around 12, 30 when they were shot by a

gunman. the officer was struck by gunfire from the suspects. fire. that's all the information that. police say its officers and deputies from the sacramento county sheriff's office arrived on scene shortly after in chased the suspected gunman as he ran across mahaney park firing while he fled. suspect begin shooting as he was running from police and took to citizens hostage for short time until officers arrived and confronted the suspect. captain kelby nguyen with roseville police as the gunman captured pedestrians in the park. their little league baseball field in the what turned out to be a suspect? running this direction and then i heard get out. police. >> and that was when the shooting started. police say the gunman surrendered once officers converged on him, but not before he turned the gun on the hostages injury, one in killing the other. >> well, that was mason morrow reporting for us. let's switch gears because passenger traffic is rebounding and 2 of the bay area's major airport officials at the san jose and oakland airport say they're

still far from pre-pandemic activity levels. but the recovery is encouraging for justin campbell has the details. >> but i like it. i'm glad everyone's heading back to normal. >> san jose airport is getting busier in february, roughly 821,000 passengers flew out of the airport. a 34% increase compared to the same period last year across town at oakland airport in february. roughly 794,000 passengers, a 19% increase in passenger traffic. both airports say they are still below their 2019 pre-pandemic levels but show for triggers are says he is picking up the same amount of people he did before the pandemic. >> coming from us and that going from hawaii come come from taxes. denver, hawaii, trigger sir, says he's used to picking up passengers at sfo.

county, upper elevations to this is really a rainmaker for the bay area. temperatures well, too warm for sort of snowfall in our mountain tops, at least here, right in the core of the bay. we do have some pockets of heavy rain mixed in there, mostly on the light to moderate side. but right around lake merced said as well as sunset district, some areas of heavy rain right there. so definitely watch that travel up down 19th avenue and 101. on the west side of san francisco. it's coming down. could see some ponding of water on the roads. there overnight, a half moon bay as well as right around oakland's airport and sfo are 2 airports are getting that wall down in san jose. not so much that i'm a little quieter up around santa rosa at this moment. things have quieted down for the north bay temporarily. we've still got plenty of showers ahead of us over the next couple of hours, though, this is going to continue to have that impact on the morning commute. we do have some cooler air pushing it along with this. so even after showers do push out later on this morning, we're

still going to have that cool feel to it today. definitely a cooler one than yesterday was by noontime today were waving goodbye to those showers and the rest of the day. just a few peeks of sunshine on what is going to stay a predominantly overcast. one tomorrow, you should start to see skies clearing out a little bit more temperatures, a little bit warmer. and this sets us up for a beautiful easter sunday with lots of sunshine and some really good dry skies for those easter egg hunts today will be a bit breezy, but by no means a windy one compared to the last systems we've had 30 miles per hour. wind gusts of the coast inner mountain tops most of us 15 to 20 miles per hour. winter weather advisories in the sierra through 02:00pm today. our heaviest of snow fall north of highway 50 that will have an impact on i-80 roadways are set to remain open but 2 to 8 inches of snowfall can be expected, which will obviously have an impact making it slick. today's temperatures upper 50's to low 60's. a nice day to venture outside. with those layers. the rain jacket this morning, the sweater and

something cozy this afternoon. as for saturday and sunday, we're warming back up sunday, especially so mid 70's for easter for some of our inland areas. sounds pretty nice for getting out there with the family. brittany, we've got you in studio this morning. taking a look at the roads. what's the latest? you know, we're slowly starting to get busy in the traffic center as expected. listening to your forecast. you can see right here, the san mateo bridge traffic actually picking up in both directions. the driving conditions and then shot. don't look too sloppy. but as we fast for that, you can see the 5.80, tolls to 101. look at that. shine on the middle of the roadway. >> wet leaves are just as slippery as take it nice and slow and of course, use your headlights because it is raining. take a look at the big picture. a couple things i'm watching right now to 80 southbound near foothills boulevard. this is an accident we're going to see slower drive times. we have one lane blocked. you can see right here, the yellow 35 miles per hour. this is actually an overturned car. so police fire ems on the scene. you can take foothills parkway to avoid some of those delays. but you

will see slow drive times on to 80. we're also still watching a wrong-way driver. this to north near alameda off-ramp. the fast lane also blocked for this. you can take winchester boulevard to avoid some delays, but those are the 2 big problems we're watching right now as we speak. taking a look at your drive westbound. you can see right there crockett's amaze. we're still looking at 15 minutes. but during a traffic is slowly picking up across the map. as you know, we're going to stay connected on tv online and of course, on our app to make sure everyone gets to work on time and safely. some all right. well, bay area diners who have fond memories of the restaurant caught chow are in luck because after more than 20 years serving up san francisco and the east bay cho had to close down. but news on dine and dish. we're getting a taste of the brand-new chow open. now back in san ramon. >> after some 3 years of being back and serving up american same delicious comfort food. the beloved chow is back. but

in a new location, this is the new chapel in san ramon open inside the city center at bishop and longtime fans of the old couldn't be i have the tacos today and i feel big change. the law continues its really good child closed down in 2019 after 2 decades of serving bay area diner, we like this location. better for real. yeah. okay. how about the really good with something to appeal to every age you can chow down on everything from tacos to fresh tuna poke to off a car when a bistro muscles and italian a little bit of everything for sure. if it sounds a collective. well, you can thank chow's tony pulis a note. it's fun. it's who we are. it's like our greatest besides the restaurant. there's a grab and go market class. a well-stocked bar bring the one-two punch. we've got the food and now introducing a really nice great cocktail

this friday morning. feels good to say friday might not fit. so good to look at the radar this morning. >> because we are looking at some showers pushing through for your final commute of the week. but the good news is nothing too terribly heavy out there. and we are keeping you covered here on the morning news. we do have snowfall up in the sierras. so if your plans involve heading up to tahoe this weekend, do expect some slick conditions today. roadways are set to remain open but bring the chain's bring everything you need with. yeah. and you have some fresh powder as you're getting on the slopes for tomorrow and sunday, especially now radar shows you those pockets of heavier rainfall that we do have right here across the bay area. definitely an active morning. and we do have some of that heavier rain even set a yet to work its way on into the bay sitting offshore of the peninsula. so some of those areas of yellow and orange will impact the peninsula. san francisco in the east bay here shortly. let's point out some of these areas that we are coming down pretty good. and that includes on the southwest side of san francisco. now moving to the

northeast. so you're actually seeing some pretty quick movement, some of these stronger cells right here. this is right over mission district so much as well as downtown san francisco. some heavier rainfall there. this right here about to be pushing its way on into the east bay and set to be impacting areas like san lorenzo in san leandro with heavier intensity rainfall just within the next 15 minutes. so do watch out for that as well. definitely an active morning. we're keeping you updated all morning. so stay with us for all the latest during the 5 all the latest during the 5 o'clock.
