5:01 am
we're going to be looking at is rainfall increastng here in just moments in this view behind me in san francisco, we're already seeing that rain picking up in areas like the peninsula in the south bay. let's get a look at live right now here on your satellite radar showers moving in from the south. you already see those yellow pockets indicating heavy rain around santa cruz up in the santa cruz mountains. notice that rain is settling in for the peninsula. now. not a lot yet for the rest of the bay area, but it is on its way because showers are moving in a predominantly northeasterly direction. so all that rain going to be pushing up into the north bay into the east bay and into the santa clara valley as well. right now, really the only routes that are super wet just yet is really to 80 there on the peninsula where we are looking at some shower activity, increasing for those of you around cupertino on up to woodside. that stretch right there. starting to get weather right along 2.80, highway. 85 from cupertino down into the south bay. also looking at increasingly wet conditions and just now starting to see

some light showers from san mateo down to santa clara along 101, further north, we are seeing some light showers here and there further north on the peninsula into san francisco, not picking up a whole lot just yet. just know that this rainfall increases in intensity over these next couple of hours and will peak right in the middle of the morning commute. all the energy that you're seeing down there along the monterey bay area is going to transition up our direction. gilroy already seeing it coming down as well. now our temperatures fairly mild this morning. it's 40's to 50's. so no need to layer up too much. it's just the rain jackets in the umbrellas that you've got to focus on. and if it's the umbrellas you choose today, do not be faked. taking them out this afternoon because those winds will be blowing up the straight out of your hands. it may be fairly calm as of right now, but look at where winds are headed this afternoon. areas like half moon bay are going to be seeing 60 miles per hour. plus, wind gusts same for the santa cruz mountains. so we're likely to have some power outages, downed trees in these

little bit closer once it gets brighter and i'll show you the cracks on the roadway. they noticed this yesterday and they frenetically tried to clean it up, make the repairs in time for the evening commute. but that did not happen. they believe the cracks happened because of the rain and the mud slide that came after that and they don't want obviously anybody getting out of control with their cars, especially if the roadway gives out. and that's why they're out here trying to get it done. they don't know when they will finish. the hope was yesterday evening. now they're not even putting a timetable. so here's the good news. i already talked about how it's the morning commute. it's the counter commute directions. but come the evening. we will see if they don't finish. skies is going to be horrible, especially when you add the lanes. escuse me the rain that will come in. you can see the barriers out there that they have once the rain comes and it's not done, it will be really backed up.

5:16 am
>> what we've been looking at, heavy rain already for la on along the central coast, the center of the low pressure that's dragging this moisture up our direction is basically right on top of us. you can see it right here. that's your low pressure that not only stirs up some very impressive winds on the peninsula and the santa cruz mountains today. but funnels all that moisture from the south right up here into the bay area. and this is what's dragging that moisture our direction. even though the center of the atmospheric river is set up shop for the central coast further southward, as you can see, some of our heaviest of rain is around l a on up into the central coast and now the santa cruz mountains. but the showers are moving northerly and that is going to push it right here into the bay area right in the middle of the morning co mute. you can see some of the heaviest of rainfall really squared up down in the santa cruz mountains right now down towards gilroy as well. some really heavy rain as of right now, comparatively quiet for the north bay and east bay. up to this point to 80's about
