we've crop was will tran standing by live in santa rosa with the latest on the story. will. >> well, james, because of what happened, school administrators have canceled classes for today and for the rest of the week, we will zoom in just to show you what's going on. you can see the memorial. it is burning brightly in the dark and it continues to grow to remember that 16 year-old student who was stabbed on campus yesterday. let me show you video. this all happened at around 11 o'clock yesterday morning. according to police officers, 2.16, year-old students going to an art class. they were not students of that. our class. they were trying to confront a 15 year-old boy. investigators say that's when the 15 year-old boy and the other 2.16 year-olds they get into teachers and their aides try to break it up. but unfortunately, it resumed a short time after that. and then that's when according to police officers, the 15

year-old boy pulls out of 4 inch switchblade and stabs the 2 kids. the 2.16 year-olds they get to the nurse, the nurse, then they called the police department. they were rushed to the hospital. but because of the injuries to the 16 year-old boy, jayden, as you mention, james, he was stabbed according to investigators, at least 3 times in the chest. and the people you may know, doctors worked on him. they were not able to save his life. the campus was shut down. a lot of people in shock, of course, including the 16 year-old boy's family right? >> not expect to help my daughter go through this. how is she going to get through this? how do you hurt? very baby. i don't understand.

after the chaos school was locked down. they searched everywhere. james, daria, they had about 36 police officers combed this area, but it was a witness who told investigators that the 15 year-old boy fled campus and was arrested. >> off-campus, his name is not being released at this time because of course, he is a minor, but he will be charged with murder and attempted murder. the other 16 year-old boy who was stabbed. he was stabbed in his hands and we'll survive his injuries. but 16 year-old jayden piano, the anti he was stabbed several times in the chest and did not survive. thank you very much. well, school safety is now front and center, obviously in santa rosa after what happened, the city's police chief points out that there is not a school resource officer. >> at montgomery high or in any santa rosa city schools. now kron four's dan thorn has more on that side of the story. >> the memorial continues to grow here at montgomery high school following the violence

and it has intensified the debate over police officers being at santa rosa city schools. the school resource program was under scrutiny back in 2020 following the death of george floyd by june 2020, that program was paused and the school board president says they are not sure if a police officer would have made a difference in this stabbing. >> the deadly stabbing of a student draws police officers to montgomery high school in santa rosa. investigators say the killing happened during a fight among 3 students inside in our classroom. the police chief was pressed on the department's response just hours after the stabbing. i think it's really important understand that the santa rosa police department did not remove arose from the school campus. so i think that's very important. that was a decision made by the santa rosa school board. chief john cregan says he's advocated for the return of school resource officers. but there is not been won on santa rosa city school campuses since 2020, the board

voted to pause the sro program following the death of george floyd. i believe that there are other options besides law enforcement being on our campuses that contribute to safety. >> school board president stephanie, many areas says the call for sro's to return to schools has come to the forefront following wednesday's violence. gary was heartbroken by the killing of a 16 year-old at montgomery high, but maintains she is against police being it schools. i am not in favor of school resource officers on campus and the board has has stood pretty strong on on this decision of ours. january says the focus over the next few days is on the immediate need for students and staff to feel safe. returning to campus. the next steps will be coordinating a community forum on safety in santa rosa schools. >> the school superintendent also weighing in on safety at santa rosa city schools saying that there are no metal detectors on any of the campuses. >> she says that safety is

going to be an ongoing conversation as the community works to heal, reporting in santa rosa. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> well, 506, is the time. another big developing story that we're following. the fact that a beloved san francisco radio host is still missing this morning. jeffrey vandergrift also known as jv hasn't been seen since last week. his wife says she got information suggest he may not be coming back kron four's. michael thomas is following the story for us up in the newsroom. michael. hey, good morning, everyone. you know, tomorrow marks one week that the popular and beloved radio host known as gb has been missing. >> this update has left the community heartbroken and that includes us here at kron four's. many of our viewers know he had a second hearing was part of our morning show at one point. >> 9.46, let's go wild. 94 9 where jv is talking what? what's hot on the radio show by daria. we're talking about. >> you know and wild 94.9 radio host jv has been missing

since last friday. he was last seen leaving his home on the 200 block of king street around 10:00pm the night before he's still considered missing by san francisco police. but just hours ago, his wife, natasha yi posted to instagram with an update saying she doesn't believe he will be coming back. take a look. he says that javed says, quote, jb and i have always considered this community part of our family. so i want to let you know that personal information has recently been discovered. that leads us to believe jv will not be coming back. i tell you this with incredible pain and sadness in my heart, goes on to say that there is no foul play suspected in his disappearance and the details will be capped with an immediate family at this time. she also went on to thank the san francisco police for its efforts and asked the community for forgiveness for her silence. has her heart is broken. anyone with information is asked to call san francisco police say did reach out to them this morning to see if they had any updates on their and they have not heard back as we get more information, we'll continue to

keep you michael thomas reporting in the newsroom. i send it back to thank michael and you know, we feel so badly about this and we haven't seen him for years. this >> was a segment we used to do years ago and it so much fun. was really, really fun and funny guy and helping thank you, michael 509, right now in the east bay, one person is dead and another injured in a shooting that happened in oakland's fruitvale district was around 11 o'clock in the morning yesterday on international boulevard near the fruitvale bart station. police got there. they found 2 people who had been shot. they took them both to the hospital where one died. we don't have details yet on what happened. murder charges have now been filed for the mass shooting that happened at an oakland gas station on january. 23rd. there was a big group of people filming a music video when gunfire broke out in the spot. the see here at this gas station, 18 year-old mario navarro ended up dying after being shot and 7 others were

hurt. police say 21 year-old bryan crews of san leandro was arrested last month in connection with navarro is death. and he's being held now without bail to santa rita. jail is expected to enter a plea next month. >> social media trend targeting cars made by 2 specific companies has led now to a spike in car thefts across the country. and now one east bay cities warning people about this rising trend. berkeley police say they've seen 3 times. the number of key is and i stolen since this trend started. the challenge shows people targeting older model cars that don't have an engine immobilizer installed, which is a common theft prevention device built into the engines control unit. it makes it hard to start the car unless the correct key is used. now the cars targeted are some older model. key is and eyes that use a physical key since they don't have the mobilize or byron white with the berkeley police department says that thieves are exploiting this weakness. >> essentially criminals are taking advantage vulnerability

of emergency for areas most impacted by these recent winter storms. and this includes sonoma, nevada, amador sierra and tulare counties along with 8 other counties. the governor also activated the state of operation center to bring state support to county late emergency response efforts. this all comes after a group of congressman from california called on the governor to issue the declaration, including kevin kiley, doug limon law lamalfa and tom mcclintock >> take a look at this. the lick observatory on mount hamilton still covered in snow. the staff says they're also without power stopped the road to the observatory is closed as well. caltrans is working trying to clear up the road. but you know, when it's this cold, the snow sticks it that way. yeah. and then it's still up there on mount diablo. i caught a glimpse of it yesterday and i know john's been. >> keeping an eye on the weather going for. i know we have some stormy weather on tap for the weekend is also going to continue bringing snow for the higher pictures that i going to add a few more

so building snowpack right here in the bay area. what about that as sierra nevada, thankfully open to back up today after what with took a little bit of time to get those roadways like 80 and highway 50 cleared out yesterday. bay area. we enjoyed already a really nice and clear day yesterday and we've got another one ahead of us golden gate bridge, no fog and no rainfall. this morning. but we are back down to the 30's much as we were yesterday. so another really frigid start just make sure that you're layered up and ready for that cool field. livermore and conquered sitting at 34 right now. same for you in santa rosa. most of us staying above freezing at the moment, but likely some frost on your windows out there as you're venturing out. does the frost advisories and light blue closer to the coast in the bayshore in those freeze warnings further inland up until 09:00am skies clear for the bay and now clearing out for southern california and the sierra. so why your roads are much improved today in these areas compared to yesterday when they were still dealing with that rain and snow. now we do have a high

pressure ridge center to the south of us. this is just enough to a kid to continue to keep us dry both today and into tomorrow. but we are going to be seeing a resurgence of rain. snow and colder weather come the weekend. so it's just a reminder to enjoy today and tomorrow's weather as much as you can before that cooler reekend, both today and friday. looking really nice and clear. we are going to see calmer winds today, which is go to the cherry on top of all that sunshine that we've got the weekend ahead will bring the return of multiple feet of snow to the sierra. it's one to 5 feet depending on elevation between saturday and monday. this is a lot lighter than what we had earlier this week. but it's still enough for a winter storm. watch to be taking effect starting on saturday morning. as for temperatures, it's mid 50's for most of the bay area. daly get up to 54 degrees today. burlingame, up to 56 peninsula. mostly continuing those mid to upper 50's with mountain view at 58 and into the south bay. san jose just shy of 60 degrees east bay

darren james insulin companies have faced pressure from lawmakers about lowering the cost of that life saving medication. >> and now president biden is calling on other companies to lower their prices. eli lilly announced wednesday its new pricing for insulin capping out of pocket costs at $35 a month largest manufacturer united states of america. >> i agreed to do just that. while speaking at an event for house democrats wednesday evening, president biden praised the move and called on others to do the same ever. the company making insulin is going to have to lower their prices. the 35 because they can't compete. the american diabetes association says 37 million americans have diabetes and 8 million require insulin. virginia democratic tim kaine calls it a smart play by the drug maker. wayne gretzky says don't skate where the puck is skate where the puck going. >> and eli lilly has decided

the south bay, santa clara county supervisors now calling to continue the county's covid-19 vaccination program after it was closed down. so the county closed its 3 mass vaccination and testing sites over the last weekend at free vaccines to people regardless of their insurance coverage or if they were able to pay. it was a lifesaver during the pandemic supervisor, joe submit ian says that the county should view the covid program like the seasonal flu vaccine program and continue making it available for residents and those vulnerable supervisors are hoping to meet with county officials to discuss the possibility of continuing that vaccine program. as of yesterday, a

into your morning, right? because of equipment issues darya. james, back to you. thanks a lot. ryan is 5.31. and for your health this morning, the cdc is warning people about the spread of a bacteria called shigella. it causes stomach problem. it does. and we actually talked with infectious disease expert about this bacteria. >> and how it's becoming resistant to antibiotics. we have kron four's rob nesbitt with the story. >> shigella infections are not new in our most common among young children. but the cdc says last year about 5% of infections were strong enough to resist treatment. doctor peter chin hong from ucsf says the concern is that the resistance will continue to trend upward going from 0. >> and 2015, 2.4% in 2019 and during the pandemic and then lost all of us. and it's 5% of cases where. no drugs that's kind of frightening to me. the symptoms of shigella include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. doctor chin-hong says about 40% of people who get it have to be hospitalized.

francisco. rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> it's 5.33. and the u.s. could soon have its first rsv vaccine for older people. the first vaccine of its kind in the whole world. in a close vote. an advisory panel to the fda recommended the agency approve a vaccine developed by pfizer. for those who are 60 and older. pfizer says its single dose reduces the risk of illness from rsv by as much as 86%. the next step is for the fda to give approval the that could take several months. the agency usually follows the advisory committee's recommendations. >> well, the man accused of beheading his girlfriend with a sword has pleaded not guilty. jose, when data is charged with murdering his ex-girlfriend identified as 27 year-old karina castro, it happened back in september right in front of castro's home in san carlos. police say they've been arguing about the custody of their one year-old child. prosecutors say he attacked capture with a samurai sword. yesterday the court decided that the case will move forward to trial.

during the hearing. his defense attorneys implied they might argue self-defense. the next court appearance is set for march 23rd. >> it's 5.34 and disgraced theranos ceo elizabeth holmes is continuing her fight to try to stay out of prison. and a new court filing. she argues her prison sentence should be delayed because she just had a baby. it's latest effort to avoid going to prison for 11 years. attorney steve clarke says prosecutors want to show that there is not separate justice system for her. >> the u.s. attorney's office patients is growing very thin with elizabeth holmes. message is going to be set here that if you are convicted, you start your time. just like everybody else. and i think they want to send a message to ms holmes into the community at large that the justice system is working fairly for everyone. >> holmes is going to find out if she's going to have to

start that prison sentence at a hearing next month. >> well, happening right now, police in redwood city are looking for a missing 58 year-old man. they say that brian bridges went missing yesterday at 04:30pm, on hopkins avenue. he's described as a white male 6 feet, 2 inches tall. weighs about 2.65. he was last seen wearing reading glasses, a red jacket and blue jeans. they say he is at risk due to a health condition. if you recognize him, you know, areas police let police know. >> it's 5.36. and oakland mayor sheng tao says it's going to take a few more weeks for the city to fully recover from its ransomware attack. that was first reported last month. that attack brought down several city services, including the 3, 1, one phone system parking citations and business tax licenses. the mayor says that her team is working around the clock to fix the remaining problems and try and get all that stuff back up and running. >> meantime, fees are going to be waived for businesses that can't pay their taxes. a
