contained fire the smoke and the trail at sunset look at that you have the sunset sort of glowing in the background, you have that dark cloud of smoke just above it. it is definitely dramatic to say good morning, everyone, i'm robin winston and thank you for joining us on the kron 4 morning news, we have a lot to cover but first we want to check in with meteorologist john trimble who has a look at the forecast the winds which is very important how long we're going to be dealing with these gusty winds, you know what robin good news in the weather department k we're taking a bit of a breather summer the winds operations of definitely good news there yesterday so windy across agency. >>outages this morning of course the fire spread all these factors that have really affected a lot of people across the bay area really most of us being affected in one regard. we are seeing this san francisco lit up out there in the distance we have clear skies across the bay. we have much calmer conditions already it is still breezy at this
4:03 am
moment, but not near as windy yesterday was red flag warnings and high wind advisories do remain in effect and tell 11:00am this morning after which point we are going ease off of those winds and that allows red flag warnings to expire at least briefly today look at where we're sitting as far as winds go certainly still breezy in the vicinity of the kincade fire in isolated spots but these winds a lot better than they have been breezy in some spots in the marine had winds as well as up into the north bay but again comparing this to winds that we had over the weekend. although we are still breezy at times it is not unlike what we saw just yesterday with winds gusting well in excess of 70 even 80 miles per hour. 40's 50's for most of your current temperatures redwood city in dublin each in the 40's alameda at 58 oakland at 55 san francisco, 58 lot of our north bay sites are actually down either because of loss of power or because winds actually knock some of these sites out so shall we have had definitely in effect from that
4:04 am
whether you are seeing north bay area still holding on to fire danger this morning, although the world widespread nature of high fire danger is really starting to drop and you're going to see that continue to happen through the day as we look at winds calming down into the afternoon. this is definitely good news for firefighters. this is not her last wind event though look what happens as we make our way into tomorrow. now tomorrow night on into wednesday, you're going to see winds picking back up and we've got yet another high wind event just around the corner. so right now a chance to take a breath. enjoy will will be a calmer day hopefully crews will be able to draw containment lines further around the king cake fire before winds do eventually pick up 70's for highs noticeably cooler day than we have been i'm talking more details in this forecast still to come back to europe all right, thank you john that we want to check in on traffic just. >>be careful driving around the bay area this morning tip in mind that you know we've been dealing with the strong winds overnight there so much
4:05 am
debris leaves a tree limbs i saw overturned garbage cans and port-a-potties heading to work this morning. so there is a lot of debris scattered across the road. so just be on the lookout. we're checking in on traffic on the left you have 80 west and it's looking pretty good heading into san francisco, it's only 8 minutes to make it across into downtown and no problems on the skyway we're checking in on the richmond sandra fell bridge very calm very quiet. so far. >>the problem story about into the north bay, a very quick 8 minutes across the span and off to one oh one. here's 92 a little busy for you leaving hayward but no big trouble spots, 12 minutes and growing to make it off to the peninsula. one oh one looks good. we have no problems into or out of san francisco it's been nice and smooth and quiet so far this morning at a quick 21 minutes to make an end and another a mention the traffic lights and you know we're dealing with the pg e power shut off throughout the bay area. so that directly impacts some of our traffic lights out there. intersections may be dark or maybe flashing, so
4:06 am
make sure you treat it as a four-way stop we've had so many accidents during the power shut off because people are just not paying attention when driving on city streets through intersections where the traffic lights are not working so we definitely don't want that to happen. we'll take another look at traffic coming up in just a bit. once again. the breaking news that we're following for you this morning over 180,000 people were under an evacuation order as that can kade fire continues to burn out of control once again the little bright red dots that you see right there in the middle your screen that's where the fire is burning and then the area that's shaded around it. the purple, those are the mandatory evacuation zones all 10 zones are evacuated. thousands of crews are out there fighting the fire which is growing fast a contained fire the fighting in from the ground from the sky and as we mentioned it's only contained this morning and has burned more than 54 1000 acres, so they're having a tough time this all comes as 940,000 pg e customers are in the dark because of this plan public

safety power shutoff. people in windsor they want. back aisha orders after the kincade fire grew in size can see firefighters there working hard working around the clock to protect properties and protect homes, those strong winds drove embers from the contained fire into windsor and that forced firefighters to work on putting out all those little spot fires that popped up. we had a chance to speak with one firefighter who came from fresno to help out. >>and helping the people of windsor and the surrounding area here. fire fire. so we're here to help you do the best we can and i could probably speak for every firefighter here. over the state were coming here to help you were here were proud to be here hope we can now lend a helping hand. >>yeah we definitely appreciate all of their hard word to write according to fire officials the fire line of the contained fire has moved to south windsor. well

4:15 am
the kron 4 morning news we're following that breaking news all around the bay area where thousands are under evacuation orders this morning as power remain shut off for many of us throughout the bay area. take a look at the map the area in the red once again that's where the kincade fire is currently burning the you have the area outside of it that
4:16 am
shaded. you can see the small dots that are just scattered from the high winds that we saw alas tied into this morning. it was rough yesterday, so there's a lot of debris on the road. a lot of stuff flying around out there be extra careful extra cautious, of course we'll keep you updated on the power shut off and the evacuation orders as well, cal fire. they have a service and that service will help you stay informed during these evacuation orders. so what you can do is you have us your cell phone right you can text zip code, your zip code 2, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7, 7, and you 10 and cal fire will let you know and evacuations in your particular area have been lifted and is it safe to return to once again. 7, 7, 7, text, your zip code to that number that's how you get those updates directly from cal fire. so that's great to do and also keep in mind that we have updated numbers on the contained fire. once again it has grown we're up to 54 1000
4:17 am
acres. it only 5% contained so far 94 structures have been destroyed we're talking about homes, businesses wineries more than 79,000 are still threatened this morning and thousands of crews are out there working hard to try and get a handle on this fire. but it just doesn't look like don't even have half containment by the end of the week, definitely keep you updated. check out this air corps, the map that we have this is what it's currently like across the bay area so the higher the number the worst air quality as soon as i stepped outside this morning. i could smell it i could smell the smoke in the air and right now winds are is the highest within some folks depending on where you are depending on the direction that the wind blowing some folks say i can smell anything at all, but you know during times like this always good to stay indoors. keep the windows and the and the in windows and doors closed and that will definitely help out as well try limit your outdoor activity want to bring in john travel but and a lot of folks like to wake up john get that
4:18 am
morning jog go for a walk and depending on where you are. yeah may want to avoid that for the time being only check out the air quality now because it gives details right where you're some spots, it's not a good idea right there. >>and it really depends mile to mile i mean yesterday looking outside we had multiple fires burning and you can see individual plumes or it would be put up and then you see that smoke settling down and for once spotted be for the next spot you have blue skies over you so yeah, really just depends where you're at as far what you're looking at as far as the air goes so a big difference in a couple of areas that israel is trying to check and see what i was talking if we had a. >>if today's a spare the air today looks like it is i know it was not yesterday. but we'll just of a says today is a spare the air days sir member, you know you to hop on mass transit up you know instead of driving around driver smart car. but you know it's limit what you're doing outside exactly especially if you respiratory conditions.
4:19 am
>>just take it a little bit easier today, one of the good things about today is winds are going to be calmer the bad side of that is a lot of that smoke is going to settle back in yesterday. >>one of the relief that was offered to us from the winds really the only really thought it off for us was the fact that i did briefly clear out skies and a keep things a little bit better as far as air quality goes for many spots as far as humidity goes it will be not quite as bone dry today, certainly the biggest difference though compared to where we have been is that winds are a lot calmer today still breezy at times but a lot calmer than they were yesterday winds continue to come down into the afternoon and we start tomorrow calm before they pick back up. tomorrow night into wednesday, yet another wind event around the corner. this one not looking quite as dramatic as yesterday but still going to be looking at stronger winds returning come tuesday night into wednesday. so this does have crews looking again and not only just potential more power
4:20 am
shut-offs but also a potential for a further spread of the kincade fire. so today is one of those days where will have to try to get that upper hand on the blaze as winds do come down that is the biggest factor right there as winds calm down by 11:00am today, red flag warnings will go out of effect briefly across the bay. so we are going to still look at dry conditions and look at warm conditions but with calmer winds that's the biggest factor right there so easing off the winds at least temporarily for the rest of the day today and into early hours tomorrow. 60's for your highs in san francisco today as well as long most of our coastal areas. you can notice daytime highs for most of the bay in a range of 70's with mid to low 70's on the peninsula as well as in the south bay. santa clara milpitas and san jose each 72 for today's highs east bay temperatures, a range of upper 60's in union city too low to mid 70's for inland valleys, berkeley in are in the upper 60's for you while sonoma 74 fair field in vacaville each
4:21 am
at 72. santa rosa and petaluma each at 74. so so for so for many of you that have power outages, least we're not seeing 80's or 90's on this map, your max temperatures are going to be in the 70's that's a tolerable range of numbers, come tomorrow temperatures around the same winds pick back up a remaining with us into early hours of wednesday before dying down again, whole wheat on thursday looks to be a lot calmer and pretty comfortable with highs in the 60's and 70's 70's will take us all the way into next weekend. >>robin all right. thank you john now we want to check in on traffic, it's looking pretty good here across the golden gate bridge with problems to report says smooth driver from the north bay to san francisco. no but trouble spots to report and just double checking. yeah, we have a wind advisory wind advisory in place for the golden gate bridge. we had one yesterday to and it looks like it's still in place. others also won for the richmond sandra fell there's one for the bay bridge. i noticed that the signs were activated when i
4:22 am
was driving in this morning. so remember you need to reduce your speed and take it easy out there with these high wind advisories in place for our bridges, the bay bridge camera has been shifted a little bit so we're seeing a kind of like half and half on the right you have traffic heading out of san francisco going east right there the middles the administration parking lot on the left we have of the traffic heading in west and it is stacking up on some of the cash lanes we'll see if we can get them to move that camera over a little bit more later on in the broadcast because we like to focus on the commute traffic heading end so we can see the little bit better here at the richmond sandra fell bridge. we're doing fine it's wide open and smooth. it's nice drive into the north bay. no problems to worry about at 7 minutes. 92 a little busy i'd say it's our busiest right now we have the traffic leaving hayward heading over to the peninsula 13 minutes to make it off 2, one to one and drive times look really good. no problems for highway for 6.80 the nimitz one oh one from san jose to menlo park just remember because of the pg e power shut off traffic lights are out many intersections are dark and
4:23 am
because of the high winds we've had in the last 24 hours. there is a lot of debris scattered across the roads in the freeway so just be extra alert as you're driving around. well still ahead on the kron 4 morning news that kim k fire is causing widespread damage all across county. we'll have the latest numbers coming up.
