well, jesuits west province represents clergy in 12 western states. hoping to provide transparency and promote healing, jesuits west has released a list priests that have been accused of sexual misconduct.the list includes the names of more than 100 clergy, living and dead, that jesuits west says have been credibly accused of sexually abusing minors and vulnerable adults. the list includes accusation dating back to the 1950s. jesuits west says that all of the people on the list have either been removed from the ministry or are deceased. but most of those named worked at multiple locations before they left the ministry. a large number of those named worked at churches in california and here in the bay area. many of them now reside here. . .at the sacred heart jesuit center in los gatos. the center is a retirement home of sorts for jesuit priests and brothers. among those at the center is jerold linder. linder is accused of sexually abusing of a minor in the 1970s and 1980s. back in 2012, this man william lynch stood trial for allegedly entering the jesuit center and assaulting linder, who he accused of sexually abusing him in the 1970s. lynch was eventually acquitted
8:02 pm
and linder is still living in los gatos.jesuits west claims they released the names in an effort to come clean with the public and rebuild trust. in a statement, the head of jesuits west father scott santarosa said "on behalf of the society of jesus, i apologize to the victims and families who put their trust in a jesuit, only to have that trust so profoundly betrayed. it is inconceivable that someone entrusted with the pastoral care of a child could be capable of something so harmful. yet, tragically, this is a part of our jesuit history, a legacy we cannot ignore."jesuit's west also says they have started a review of their records to look for additional problems and that they have set up safeguards to create a safe environment for children. finally, jesuit west says that just because a name appears on the list doesn't mean the allegations are true or that they have been found guilty of a crime. these are only allegations. in the south bay, charles clifford kron4 news.
