sot: prerna lal, immigration attorney// "he felt really, really bad that other people who were locked up whom he felt deserved to be in this country more than him who were basically locked up because tehy couldn't pay money to free themselves." (jrstone) a u-c berkeley student is out of jail tonight... after he was detained by immigrations and customs enforcement for nearly three weeks. good evening... im jr stone... (justine) and im justine waldman. it's all thanks to donations raised to pay for his bail. luis mora used the remaining money raised for his bond to free others in the same jail he was kept. kron 4's ella sogomonian is live at the east bay community law center where she met with his immigration attorney.

luis mora was so disturbed by his own experience in jail that he wanted to do whatever he could to help other undocumented people get out. undocumented cal student luis mora was arrested at a border patrol checkpoint in san diego county back in december.he was released after spending three weeks held at otay mesa detention center.his attorney said that was unusual for someone without a criminal history.an online campaign raised 15 thousand dollars for bail.his bond only cost 1500. so he helped free three other detainees with the rest of the money.sot: prerna lal, immigration attorney// "we worked with an attorney down in san deigo who had assisted briefly with luis's case to identify clients she had who she had won bond for but who had not been able to pay bond for their release. some had been detained for a year others for almost two years." their last names were released

for privacy concerns but his attorney says they were a man named juan from mexico, a grandmother name virginie from haiti, and another man named frankling from honduras.... all of which are strangers to mora.sot: prerna lal, immigration attorney// "people were just overwhelmed and in tears and so joyful and showed so much gratitude in terms of luis paying their bond. someone they have never met." lal says mora plans to pay bond for one more - this time someone he did meet. another man from honduras also 20 years old like himself.they plan to send that money sometime this week.live in berkeley ella sogomonian kron 4 news. a big story out of the east bay tonight... the coast guard rescued dozens of people after a water taxi boat ran aground...it happened near the berkeley marina. coast guard officials tell us the boat got stuck on a reef. the coast guard rescued all 43 people on board. this

happened around 3 this afternoon. crews used two small rescue boats... dropping the passengers back on land at the berkeley marina. no injuries were reported. it's unclear it's unclear how bad the boat was damaged in the wreck. (justine) a letter threatening to beat and burn homeless people in san francisco is creating fear for people living in one emcampment.(jrstone) kron 4's hermela aergawi spoke to neighbors and some park goers. she joins us live in san francisco with the details. hermela, what was in the letter?

oakland chp says the man was walking along the right shoulder of the interstate when it happened. lanes were closed, but are now back open. (jrstone) there are concerns from former renters at the journey's end mobile home park tonight over reports that the owner intends to sell the property. the santa rosa mobile home park was mostly destroyed during the north bay firestorm. residents have had to find temporary housing while they search for permanent solutions. we reached out to co- owner of the property -- ramsey shuayto -- who said they're not neccessarily looking to sell the property. he told us they're partnering with burbank housing to replace 160 units that are in poor shape with affordable housing, and that the family hopes to keep a stake in the property. how this will all play out for former residents -- remains to be seen. bay...to register for disaster assistance with fema. locals and business owners in sonoma county must register before monday. the deadline had been extended from december. fema grants do not have to be repaid. for more information you can go to kron4.com. ( jr ) three people have been arrested at what police believe is a drug-sales house. it happened this morning in novato... police received reports earlier this month about drug activity at a house on kenwood court. police got a search warrant...and stopped a man leaving the residence today. authorities say he was in possession of meth. they also found others in and around the house including a 10-year-old child. a large amount of meth and other drugs were found throughout the residence. ( justine ) in the south bay... san jose police are warning the public about child porno going around on facebook messenger. law enforcement

agencies have received multiple reports from the public about a video. and police want to remind everyone that sharing a sexually explicit video involving a child is a crime.... even if you're trying to help catch the people responsible. police are asking those who come across the video to report it immediately --- before deleting it. ( jr ) morgan hill police have arrested a woman for stealing mail. this is a mug shot of that woman...morga n hill resident michelle duarte. an officer responded to the area of butterfield boulevard and san pedro avenue yesterday at 5-47 p-m on a report of two suspicious suspects. the officer found the 39-year-old woman carrying two packages under her arm. she claims she was trying to return the packages to her friend's neighbor... but she was traveling further from the address on the packages. officers booked the woman into santa clara county jail and

( jr ) new at 8... two people are badly injured in the east bay after their car rolled off the side of a road. it happened on patterson pass road in livermore this morning. the two riders were ejected from the car as all of this happened. one has life life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital... the condition of the other rider, who was taken by ambulance to the hospital, is unknown tonight. for the families of two officers... killed by luis bracamontes. the twice deported and undocumented immigrant has been found guilty on two counts of first degree murder. the convictions stem from a 20-14 crime spree... leading to the deaths of deputy daniel oliver and detective michael davis. bracamontes was convicted other charges including attempted murder, stealing a patrol car and possession of illegal weapons. bracamontes' reaction to the verdict... a smile and audible

(justine) the "sacramento city unified school district" is investigating how a project correlating low intelligence with minority groups... was allowed to be on display at a science fair this week. a high school student enrolled in an elite magnet program titled the project "race and i-q"... it questioned whether certain races lack the intelligence

(j.r.) tonight san francisco police need your help in catching a thief who robbed a taxi driver in the inner richmond. this is surveillance video showing the robbery go down. the driver picked the man up just after 1 a.m. last month outside a bar in the area. the suspect here grabbed the driver's bag....there was a struggle as the driver tried to stop him. the man

(justine) if you are a frequent bart rider... fidning garbage on the ground and seat-hogs on the trains ... is nothing new.(jrstone) the transit system is hoping to change that... through a creative campaign... bart has started displaying posters designed by local art students... hoping to remind riders of proper etiquette when riding the trains. it's part of an effort to boost business, because ridership is down at night. graphic design students from california collge of the arts

motorcycle officer then crashed into the s-u-v. trudeau's vehicle was ánotá involved in the collision. the officer was hurt, but officials said the injuries were ánotá considered life- threatening. police say a person in the s-u-v suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. it's that time of year... girl scout cookies. the innovative scouts who set up shop infront of a cannabis dispernsaries are back at it. (jrstone) kron four's philippe djegal spoke with the innovative scout about how her sales went this year, now that recreational mariguana is legal. (philippe)nats- "hi, would you like to buy girl scout cookies?" four years ago... nats- "thank you. my pleasure. thank you." 17-year-old danielle lei (lay) started selling girl scouts cookies outside the apothecarium cannabis dispensary in san francisco's castro district. this year -- she's outside the apothecarium in the marina neighborhood.danielle lei/girl scout- "they've been really, really nice." lei says she sets-up outside dispensaries with her mom, in part, because she knows many patients want

president trump took to twitter... to discuss the demoratic intelligence memo. trump tweeted: "the democrats sent a very political and long response memo which they knew, because of sources and methods (and more), would have to be heavily redacted, whereupon they would blame the white house for lack of transparency. told them to re-do and send back in proper form!" trump announced yesterday that he won't release the democratic rebuttal at this time. it was written by california representative adam schiff, and claims to rebut the nunes memo, which democrats say is misleading and omits key facts. (jrstone) in world news... the israeli military shot down an iranian drone that entered into israeli airspace today. a short time later... an israeli fighter jet crashed in northern israel. the israeli army says it went down after coming under "massive anti-aircraft fire" from syrian forces. they

(jrstone) illegal dumping has become all too common in the bay area.(justine) most of the time we hear about it in urban areas. but now

it is popping up in unexpected places. along port chicago highway in contra costa county is this adopt a road sign with the 834th transportation battalion's name attached yes the highway was adopted... but that was then and this is now all up and down port chicago highway has become a huge dumping ground to give you an example this green mercury was abandoned or should i say dumped along with all the items stuffed inside including an air conditioner .. this i near the intersection of lake view and port chicago nats: ambiance in some areas there are piles of gravel which has been dumped on the side of the road and lots of tree trimmings this is just one of many this is the community of shore acres, an area i just learned about because a viewer sent me an email asking for help while in the area i noticed the open fields with cows roaming freely and there was no shortage of wildlife

cemetary that is part of this growing movement. nats(sound of walking thru leavesthis man may look like he's taking a hike thru the woods, but he's on his way to bring a bouquet of white roses to his mother's gravesite."hey mama"there's no tombstones here in the green section of the fernwood cemetary in mill valley...a rock marks the final resting place of spencer's mother.because his mother was a very private person spencer asked that her name and his last name, not be used in this report.he says having an environmentally friendly burial was one of his mother's last requests. literally body to earth, no chemicals no embalming and she wanted to be recycled back into the earth. and she said i don't want to be in a box for all eternityfernwood has been a cemetary since the late

1800's but in 2004 a new earth conscious owner took it over and has devoted a section to bury those who want their final step in life to have as small of a footprint as possible.most of the gravesites are dug by hand....and the bodies that go in them are not emblamed. (bird chrip)there's no lush chemically treated lawn in the green section, which is also a certified wildlife habitat. those who are buried here can choose to go underground in an unfinished pine box, or a wicker casket....or wrapped in a shroud.while they still offer traditional burials here at fernwood, they are finding more customers are interesting in going into the ground in a greener way than wha't been common practice for decades. metal caskets are not biodegradable by any means neither are heavy wooden caskets and all the interiors are not biodegradable, embalming is toxic to the ground so therefore it's not green at all(maureen)while of green burial means going back to the old ways of doing things here at fernwood they've added a modern component. a chip is buried in every grave site that can be detected with this rita right here. it helps identify the person who's buried beneath the earth, it's basically a high tech tombstoneit's their one exception to their rule of no non biogradible items going under ground in green section, and it's done so visitors can
