>>:we'll have an alternative for the children--we don't have an alternative >> pam :it appears a charter school in pittsburg is on life support. and, the plug may soon be pulled. this, after parents and students of s-e-p high school received letters this month. from the company that manages the school. saying, it is terminating its contract with the school. good evening, i'm pam moore. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with famlies deeply concerned about what is on the horizon. >> phillipe :outrage and deep concern. >> : this has been pretty difficult. >> phillipe :you bet! >> : the staff and my friends are all like a big family to me. >> phillipe :we spoke with

students, like 8th grader jessica moore-diaz, who say they simply didn't fit in at any other school before here, and that if this school does go away, they'll be lost. >> : it's a lot easier for me to learn the academics here -- they're a lot more engaging than at public schools. >> phillipe :helen kinmon, -- a grandmother of one of the students, shared the letter she received from encore education corporation on saturday. e-e-c is the company that manages and operates synergy education project high school. in the letter, the company states its informed the s-e-p school board and the state department of education that encore is terminating its management contract with the school. it does not give a reason, but students, parents and teachers tell kron four its all about money. >> : we're kind of like up in the air, like, what are we gonna do? >> phillipe :encore says its up to the school board to figure out a way to keep the school open. but as of now, the doors will close on november 18th. this school specializes in arts, dance and music.

the student-body? some 200 kids and about a half dozen teachers. margie digirgio is one of them, surrounded by students, including kinmon's granddaugter. >> : many people have put their heart and souls into this place, and to see it disappear just because a company came in, promised the world and then took it away within a matter of three months is unacceptable. >> : it doesn't make sense. it's leaving everybody a little bit hopeless. >> phillipe :as of now, all of the upset parents, students and teachers say all they can do is try to raise money, which they're doing on the site go- fun-me-dot-com. go-fund-me and, if they doesn't work, most students won't attend classes anywhere anytime soon. in pittsburg, philippe djegal, >> pam :new at eleven. a carjacking suspect, who led police on a chase across the bay bridge. will be charged with nine felonies and three misdemeanors. 24-year-old randal maykopet. faces several charges. including assault on a police officer and carjacking. officials say, maykopet drove away in a police s-u-v saturday morning. after police responded to a report of a man armed with a knife.

officers chased him from the city's cow hollow neighborhood. all the way to treasure island. he then drove onto the bay bridge. where he later jumped from the upper deck, to the lower deck of the bridge. an officer arrested hiim. after making the same jump. crews are still working to repair a massive sinkhole in union city. the hole first opened up. about two -weeks ago on alvarado boulevard. the union sanitary district has filled the hole. however, crews are still trying to assess and repair a damaged sewer pipe. it is located about 20- feet below ground. high groundwater levels have made it difficult to reach the pipe. without causing additional damage to the street and other utilities. officials will release an expected completion date. once they are able to reach the damaged pipe. the mother of a student shot and killed near jesse bethel high school. is suing the vallejo school district. she claims the school failed to keep her son and other

students. safe. kron 4's scott rates spoke with the mother today. and explains why she is now suing the school district. it's a story you'll only see on kron 4. >> scott :it's been 5 and half months, and the pain is still fresh. just hours before coming back to the spot where her son was murdered jamie rusk walked into the vallejo county school district with papers in hand rusk formally filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the district, the city of vallejo, and the superintendent dr. ramona bishop claiming negligence in her son's death. her biggest claim >> : lack of security scottrusk claims security issues were raised and ignored at the high school after an armed

robbery occurred the day before her son's death. her son, max was shot and killed on this trail.just feet away from jesse bethel high school. police arrested zachery kroll and eli-sha white jr.. both are accused of killing the 17 -year old. today we asked the school board if they wanted to discuss the lawsuit --knoll but they had nothing to say rusk hopes that now with a lawsuit filed her concerns will be addressed. >> : make it safer for all these other kids >> scott :rusk would not talking about how much money in damages she is seeking, only saying there no amount that can bring her son back >> pam :new at eleven. the family of a woman shot and killed by emeryville police officers. is filing a federal lawsuit. yuvette henderson was suspected of shoplifting at a home depot in february. police say, she had stolen knives from the store. and when confronted outside. pulled a revolver on store security

guards. she ran down the street. and allegedly tried to carjack police say, she turned her gun to open fire. tomorrow. --hnederson's family will give details on the lawsuit tomorrow a convicted felon is facing charges, after he shot himself in the foot with a hunting rifle... police say his gunfire also hit a 9-year old boy. the bullet apparently passed through the floor of his apartment... and struck the boy while he slept. eric smith is facing charges of negligent discharge of a firearm, a felon in possession of a firearm... and a felon in possession of ammunition. both smith and the young boy were taken to the hospital with serious... but non- life- threatening injuries. a friend of the family says, she spoke to the boy's mother wednesday morning. >>:she was crying and she was definitely devastated and i said to you know hanging in their

acting will be fine --hang in there and everything will be fine >> pam :the san joes police department says, the investigation is ongoing... additional charges could be made. smith is expected to be booked into the santa clara county jail following his release from the hospital. new at 11. a 28-year-old man. who confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend. appeared in court today. police say, on monday. hugo ernesto castro entered san jose police headquarters, and turned himself in for the murder of. 27-year-old allessandra barlas. police say, castro admitted to strangling and fatally stabbing barlas with a knife. castro told investigators. the two previously dated, and she agreed to meet him. today castro was arraigned on a murder charge. he is expected back in court. in november. coming up a local house all set up for halloween fun but local neighbors want it shot down-shut down

>> pam :san leandro police are looking for suspects in a pair of armed robbery cases near arroyo high school. both victims are 59-year-old asian men. they were both robbed immediately after dropping their children off at school. one incident happened monday morning about 8a-m.

traffic. kron four's jeff bush was at the planning commission tonight where there were a lot of people who were for the project but, even supporters say the event will likely have to be held somewhere else next year. >> jeff :it's the third scheduled haunted house on peralta street in albany. the organizers of the event were issued a temporary use permit months ago for a temporary structure to be built in the back yard, but an appeal was leveled two weeks ago and the fate of the haunted house was up to the planning commissionthe very government body that issued the permit in the first place. there was a packed house and one by one people got up to express their feelings about the haunted house. a portion of the money raised will go to the alameda county food bank. most were supportive but, other say it is the right event in the wrong >>:you need a venue that the city needs to provide or the high school providesor, if everyone in the community is behind you guys they will raise the money for it to take place
