♪ just you and i ♪ >> pam :now at 11. a major california north- south thoroughfare. is shutdown tonight. interstate five. at the grapevine and castiac. is still closed in both directions in southern california because of severe weather. good evening. im pam moore. several hundred vehicles are stranded. after flash flooding about 40- miles north of los angeles. sent water and mud flowing into canyons and across roadways. traffic is currently being diverted to santa clarita. and there is no word on when the roadway will be cleared. you can see in the video. attempts to pull big rigs and cars out of the sludge.

thunderstorms and flooding in the area caused the mudslides. and crews are working on several rescues in the area. no reports of major injury. the interstate- five closures could last up to a day. happening now. the sinkhole which closed a major intersection in union city on wednesday afternoon. likely wont be repaired until tuesday. alameda county water district crews have fixed the water main that flooded the 10- foot deep pit. and water service in the area has been restored. early in the day, the hole was about 10- by 12- feet. but now it's 25 -by- 25 feet. as crews work to finish their repairs. the intersection at alvarado boulevard and new haven street is blocked. causing traffic and pedestrian chaos. especially for parents trying to pick their kids up from school. and some students are just as bothered. >>:i am so irritated now because of this back out, like what is

going on--backup >>:it is usually packed so i go around but today's even crazier >>:everyone is a noted >> pam :once authorities dig deep enough they hope to determine the cause of the sink hole now at 11. a deadly officer- involved shooting today in san francisco. leaves one man dead. what officers are saying. led up to the event. tonight. san francisco police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting. after officers say, they were forced to open fire on a man. the incident happened around noon. at eighth and market streets. police say, the suspect was throwing bottles in the street. and became hostile with a construction worker who asked him to stop. the construction worker then flagged down nearby officers. police say. they attempted to arrest the man. but he resisted. officers then say. a violent struggle ensued. >>:the suspect got on top of the sergeant and the sergeant yelled

to his partner that he is getting my gun and he has my gun shoot him >> pam :police say, the officer fired two shots. striking the suspect. he did not survive his injuries. all we know about the suspect is that he believed to be a hispanic male in his late 20's. both police seargents were injured in the struggle for the gun and were being treated for non-life threatening injuries. california is looking to strengthen the state's gun control laws. in the wake of the recent mass shootings around the nation. lieutenant governor newsom has proposed an initiative that would ban possession of large - capacity magazines. and require background checks for ammunition purchases. the proposal could make california the only state in the nation. to require the background checks when purchasing ammunition. newsom hopes to put the initiative before voters in the november 2016 election. with the iconic bay bridge in the backdrop of a popular

walking trail in san rafael. a woman reports a horrifying encounter with an attempted rapist. the suspect arrested a short time later. kron four's philippe djegal reports from the baypoint trail. on a violent sexual assault. >> : i think women always have to be careful when they're walking especially alone, its good to have a partner. >> phillipe :linda weyrick follows her own advice -- sharing her strole along the san rafael bay with a friend. but so did tuesday's victim -- who despite having company, police say, was still assaulted, not far from cheryle hangartner, who lives on the other side of the fence. >> : when i walk my dog, i've got a nice half pit hound dog that goes with me, so i'm not quite as concerned about going and taking a walk here on the beautiful path." >> phillipe :what happened here though to a woman and her cousin tuesday was certainly scary, and a bit jarring for weyrick. >> : i just always carry my cellphone. i'm ready to call the police. >> phillipe :at around two o'clock in the afternoon -- a

man walked by the two sitting on a bench. after a brief chat with the man, police say the woman and her cousin tried to leave. that's when the man, identified by police as 27-year-old israel abisai rachac-marroquin got angry. touched the woman and asked her for sex. and when the victim no, rachac-marroquin grabbed her by the hair and tried pulling her into the bushes. while pulling the woman's hair, police say the suspect tried to rape her. but her cousin jumped in -- and, thats when investigators say rachac-marraquin pulled a knife on both, before running off. the suspect spotted a few hours later down the street, where he was placed under arrest. in san rafael, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> pam :this isn't the first time something similar has happened in that area. in may, police told us about two moms.pushing strollers.who were sexually assaulted. then in july. another mom with a stroller.robbed and beaten at gunpoint.

police have only link the suspect arrested to the recent crime and no other arrests have been made danville police are now asking for the publics help. in finding the suspect in a burglary. that took place early wednesday morning. here is a photograph of the suspect who broke into a restaurant on hartz avenue. and took off with an undisclosed amount of money. the suspect is described as caucasian or hispanic. approximately 5-9 in height. with a heavy build. wearing a two- tone north face jacket and baggy pants. officials say he might have a mustache. anyone with information is being asked to call danville police. an east bay school is warning parents not to let their kids come to school in halloween costumes. that could be offensive. kron four's jeff bush is live tonight in berkeley. and explains the warning to parents. and why school officials felt it was necessary. jeff >> jeff :the word went out

earlier this week that ethically are racially based costumes will not be allowed at school this year--ethically or cac--race based these costumes are available in stores and onlineand are exactlly what students at rosa parks elementary are not supposed to wear. school officials say they want to avoid anything that might offend or embarrass other students. the school wants kids to have a good timejust not at the expense of others. the rules might seem like common sense but the district wanted to get way in front of the issue before it even becomes a problem. parents say the rules seem like a common sense approach and the ones we talked to don't mind at all. >>:some of the things that they asked people to not dowe already don't do. >>:my son is five so it should not be difficult to find something appropriate for him to wear, i guess. >> jeff :berkeley is a very diverse community and great care
