dallas animal services. a texas judge has promised to protect it from youth nationia. an infected nursing assistant in madrid. meanwhile, nbc's doctor nancy snyder man is under fire for reportedly violating a voluntary quarantine order. she was exposeed to the virus while covering the ebola epidemic in liberia. a member of her crew contracted the did say strong safety now being treated in nebraska. doctor nancy was told to stay in her hope well, new jersey home, but last thursday, she was seen outside a local restaurant. an unidentified man went inside to pick up a to-go order, while she waited in the car. some patrons are spooked. >> ill could choose -- i could choose somewhere else, and what's that i'm going to do. >>reporter: now made the

quarantine mandatory to ensure the crew remains confined until october 22nd. before going to nbc, nanser snyderman was a familiar face. she has not reported any symptoms so far. >> again, the nurse infected in dallas had treated thomas duncan. he was the first person in america to be diagnosed with ebola. he died last week after arriving from liberia, his remains were cremateed to kill the virus. the remains were turned over to his family. but now there is some debate on what to do with the ashes from his personal items. all of his belongings have already been burned, a total of 6 truckloads full, including linen, carpet, beddings. the ashs from his items were supposed to be buried in louisiana, but the state attorney there is seeking a restraining order to keep any of it from entering that state. meantime, a healthcare worker now infected, we wanted to see how ready bay hospitals are if

ebola were to show up here. live outside san francisco general hospital with more on that part of this story. dan. >>reporter: well, pam, in short, the word is training. we talked to san francisco's county health officer today, and he said that hospitals around san francisco and the bay area know that they can deal -- they have the capability in fact, and the capacity to deal with observe, but what they've realized is they have to raise the level of competence and the way they do that among healthcare workers is to have additional training. we've seen training or drills as they like to call them, here at san francisco general, today. >> san francisco general hospital today, the emergency room did do what they described as a walking table top where they walked through the emergency department with the potential patients thinking about how they're going to care for the patient, how they're going to put on and take off personal protective equipment. in the coming weeks, we're r you're going to see more drills and exercises in table top at the hospital to be better

prepared for an ebola case. >>reporter: san francisco's count thety helths officer says the devil is in the detail, what they want to strive for is making sure health workers are more comfortable and that is because they do more training. that's how they get them there. we also received word today from kisor perm nen thai and they are also starting additional training directly related to ebola, that's coming up today. and that will continue, they've also got a video in the works for hospital workers. again, all of this is about being better prepared should somebody walk through the door who has ebola or who they believe has ebola. again, pam, the bottom line here is training, that's what's going on at general hospital. that's what's going on at other hospitals and that will continue to go on as the days move forward. reporting live at san francisco general hospital, dan kerman, kron 4 news. >> with the ebola situation changes almost every day, we've create aid special section on the website.

click on the right side, you'll see the special section, include it, links on what bay area healthcare workers are.com now. everything you need to know about the deadly virus on kron 4.com. >> the coast guard is investigating a ferry accident in the bay that sent ten passengers to the hospital. they were among 231 passengers on a blue and gold ferry last night, that was pulling away from pier 41 in san francisco. a spokesman for the company that operates the fleet said in a written statement, the san francisco bay ferry service apologizes for any of our passengers, who were injured or inconvenienced by this unfortunate incident. we will fully cooperate with any investigation into the reasons it happened. kron 4's will tran explained what occurred. >> here is the royal star. a different boat, but to give you a perspective, it's a little bit smaller than this. the captain sits on the opposite side of the boat. maybe 1 to 2 miles per hour, he could not see this pylon here

and slammed into the pylon. show you some video of the accident. it took place around sunday afternoon around 5:00 o'clock. dozens of people are on the boat at the time. they suffer ed injuries to their necks and backs, nothing threatening, life threatening. they were checked out. as far as the captain, he is fine. they checked out drug and alcohol tests on the crew and we are await results on that. kron 4 news. a major milestone reached in the south bay. it all has to do with bringing bart into santa clara county. teresa reports, officials with the project say besides today's feet, they will other reasons to celebrate. >>reporter: this heavily section -- near frost has been compromised with lane closures causing delays for commuters, but not anymore. all lanes are up and running and that is because work on the bart extension into the south bay

0001 the dangers of putting babies to sleep on sofas. the study published in the pediatrics journal says about 1 in 8 cases of sudden infant death syndrome happens when infants are placed on couches. nearly 7900 sudden infant deaths in 24 state, they compared those that occurred on sa fas with cribs. three-quarters of the deaths occurred three months or old or younger. researchers say sofas tend to slope toward the back cushions, to get wedgeed in the couch.

0001 new video into the newsroom tonight showing a building in san francisco's financial district, that was supposed to come down, but certainly not like this. >> the new building that's going up, there it goes. the whole front is going. look. yeah. i knew that was going to happen. >> pine street near montgomery before 8:30 this morning. after it happened, courtesy of our helicopter partnership with abc 7. you see all the debris in that area right down there. you saw the massive section of building fall forward on to the

sidewalk and street after the backhoe took part of this structure down. the building was scheduled for demolition, though. look at that person, so close. fortunately, no one was injured. certainly, no one was killed. but that one individual was really close to this. play it again. this time in slow motion. cell phone video shot from across the street. the city department of -- and cal osha are investigating. a man was struck and killed by a suspected drunk drive in palo al to. on vehicle manslaughter, felony dui, and misdemeanor unlicensed driving. investigators say that torres was traveling southover on east bay shore road when he struck a power pole, hit the male pedestrian. found the pedestrian dead in the roadway. police are not releasing the identity of the victim. police in oakland investigating a shooting that left one woman dead and a man

injured. it happened on 69 th avenue in oakland early this morning. the woman was shot while she was driving near the old dot kol sum. also shot and is expected to survive. the woman and oakland resident was pronounced dead at the scene. the man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. no word on a suspect or a motive. a building in san francisco viftation valley neighborhood was evacuated after a car crashed into the building, causing a gas leak. video from our helicopter partnership with abc 7. this happened this morning. crews made sure that the gas was venting safely from the broken line. the fire crews evacuated nearby building, but the gas leak was caped and the evacuation order was lifted a short time later. a couple of hot days around the area, things are going to be changing in a hurry. we're looking at satellite and radar picture. clouds to the north of us, a tail end of a storm approaching

the bay area. so here's the tail end. and then over the coastal water, you can see the spotty cloud pattern. first, the wave of rain come late tuesday into wednesday and then through wednesday, this indicates that we could see showers near the coastline. into wednesday afternoon. so, again, the time frame is going to be late tomorrow, about 8:00 o'clock for the north bay and moves south overnight. rainfall totals are going to be light with this one. we could see up to a half an inch of rain in some places like the coastal hills. and then, again, a chance of spotty showers, just near the coastline. i'll zoom into wednesday afternoon. take a look at futurecast. we're already seeing the fog increase at the coast right now. going to spread into the north bay, into our bay shores tomorrow morning, and what you're looking at here is drizzle from the fog. we're going to see quite a bit of it into tomorrow morning. look at how it's continuing in san francisco. moving up towards napa, also near the north bay coast land. again, all driz frl the fog.

the storm hadn't even approached yet. it's well to the north at this point. into the afternoon, a couple of spots of drizzle will linger. here comes the main band of the rain to the north. 8:00 o'clock, moving into the north bay. through the evening into the early morning hours, wednesday, starting to push to the south, we're seeing it over san francisco, oakland, and then it will push through the east bay, and down toward sz the south bay in the morning hours. largely clear conditions through the later morning hours. the chance of the showers lingering near the coast. temperatures tomorrow are going to be cooling so much over what we saw today. back this the low 70s for the south bay. we were in the 90s inland today. tomorrow, in the 70s. 74 in concord, 75 in pleasanton, 60 inside the bay. 63 degrees in richmond. at 64 in san francisco. low 60s in ocean beach and daily city, upper 60s for the north bay. taking a quick look at your extended forecast. we have that rain pushing into

4 story. a disabled east bay girl has her independence back, after her missing wheelchair was returned. kron 4's marine kelly says it's all thanks to a good samaritan after seeing the story of the disappeara kron 4 news. >> my name is ashley lewis, and this is my kron 4 story. >>reporter: ashley and her daughter la ray are all smiles because last week, ashley reached out to kron 4 after her daughter's $8,000 custom wheelchair went missing. accidentally left it outside her apartment building. she thought it might have been stolen. a local pastor picked it up. >> he thought he was a good samaritan and he knew -- it didn't feel right, it being left there. >>reporter: she says the paster saw the my kron 4 story and returned the wheelchair to richland p.d.. >> i'm glad my story got out. if he wouldn't have seen it, he probably wouldn't have known it

blocking a street near the headquarters of an electric company. one man was arrested during a separate rally at st. louis city hall. protesters are calling for an end to police brutality and asking for charges against the officer who shot and killed brown. happening now, the american aid worker being held captive by isis has told his family in a letter that his time is running out. indiana relatives meantime had a new message today for his captors. >> it will not be. >>reporter: the parents have been campaigning nonstop for his release. this is a prayer vigil they held on the campus of butler university this weekend in indianapolis. the 26-year-old indiana native is a former soldier who began doing humanitarian work in syria. he converted to islam and goes by the name abdul -- in the hands of the same islamic militants who have beheaded

0001 this is the bay area's news station, kron 4 news at 6:00 starts now. >> now, at 6:00, new information on that frightening scare ferry boat crash in san francisco which sent 10 people to the hospital. i'm pam moore. more than 200 people were on the blue and gold ferry when its land into pier 41 sunday evening. annie anderson spoke with a woman who was on that boat when it crashed. >>reporter: the lines are gigantic -- but despite sunday's accident, for most of the day, people lined up eagerly waiting their trip. >> i don't have any concerns at all. i mean these things run all the time. and seeps to me accidents do happen. >>reporter: sunday evening, the operator hit a piling while backing up. at the time of the accident, there were 231 people on board the ferry. we spoke to one of those passengers. she said she felt the boat start to back up while it was at the dock. then about five minutes later,

one of 70 hospital staffers working on thomas eric duncan, the man from liberia who dieded of ebola last week. put tubs down his throat, analyzed his urine and wiped saliva from hip lips. interviewed several time and they found inconsistencies in the type of protective gear she wore. and the process used to put it on. and to take it off. today, crews decontaminated the apartment and notified her neighbors about her infection. >> we have identified one and only one contact who had contact with her during a period when she was potentially, although likely not infectious. because it was at the very on set of her symptoms. that individual is also being monitored and as of now, has no symptoms suggestive of ebola. and no fever. >> pham is currently listed in stable condition at texas health
