by a surface to air missile system. they see a catastrophic event of something hitting this object. it is a large infrared heat signature. they believe that was the crah of the plane. president oh, got the word of the crash directly from the russian leader putin. he called to discuss the economic sanctions because of russia's continued support of the separatist. this is the second disaster for a malaysian airliner this year. flight 370 disappeared march 8th with 239 people aboard. despite an intensive and ongoing search -- there's been no sign of the plane. keep it here on kron4 for the latest on today's crash. at 5:30 -- we'll see if it's affecting travelers at s-f-o. and on the web, we've posted the dramatic video and photos from the crash. and you can stay up to date on the investigation, with the kron-4 news app.

>>we're following developing news in the middle east. israeli defense forces have launched a ground operation into gaza. hamas warns it's a dangerous step. and says israel will pay a heavy price. this operation follows 10 days of bombings and air-strikes by israeli forces.which have killed hundreds of palestinians, including women and children. the attacks were prompted by rocket attacks from gaza. the violence began after three kidnapped jewish teenagers were found dead. and escalated after a young palestinian boy was burned alive in revenge. >>in the bay area -- new at five. police are investigating an apparent road rage incident in the north bay this morning. that ended in a shooting. this unusual case in corte madera innolves two elderly men. investigators say a 69-year-old driver followed a 71-year-old man to his home. then tried to pull into his garage. the homeowner closed the door on the man's car. after an argument - the homeowner shot the other

driver.who is hospitalized. this is video from over the scene of paradise drive. it's from our helicopter partnership with abc-7. police are trying to determine whether it was self-defense. developing tonight. we're learning more about a bank robbery and wild shootout in stockton. after a barrage of gunfire. it ended with one hostage, and two criminals dead. this is new video of the scene. taken on a cell phone by a passer-by. it all unfolded yesterday afternoon. beginning with a robbery. ending with a hour long police chase. and gun battle. kron4's charles clifford is live at the bank where it all started.charles? i am outside of the bank's west branch here in stockton where it started this afternoon. people are leaving flowers at the door of the bank people. in the

community are very shaken up. the police department is conducting a very intense ongoing investigation. let's take a look at the video nearly 24 hours after the shooting. this is footage from where it ended about 2 mi. from where i am standing with the gunmen were killed including one hostage. we're getting more details about what happened including that police officers arrived within one minute of the robbery being reported. they looked inside the bank and saw three on man. we are also learning that when they took hostages, they were not necessarily intending to use them as bargaining chips. they were using them as human shields.

they took the hostages and use them as shields when they got into the vehicle. preliminary investigations showed that the final gun in used the hostage as a shield. the gunmen led police on a car chase that lasted an hour - and covered 40 miles. on the highway and on city streets. the gunman may have stopped and attempted to ambush the police. when they were finally stopped a shootout in sued. over 14 police vehicles were injured in the shooting. we are trying to discern who fired the fatal gun shops were, there was the police or the gun in themselves.

this is video of the woman who was shot in the gunshot shooting. she was the last hostage left in the s u b when the shootout began. there were many shoot outs along the way. and many in view of bystanders who became witnesses to one of the city's most violent chapters. we talked to one person today who found himself close to the action. i heard three or four gunshots really loud. i was not sure what they were a, i thought they might be back fire from a car. then i hear 75 gunshots just one after another one, after another. then you hear sirens. i saw the guy get off the freeway, turned his car around, and start shooting at the cops

as they came down the ramp. i saw hundred police officers flying off the freeway shootings, at them and being shot at. it was hectic. i was going in sane and i did not know what to do. i saw people jumping out of moving cars, diving in bush's running, to stores for cover. i was freaking out i. was hysterically crying. i was screaming my head off at the bottom of my car. i did not know what was going on again, i would see my sister or girlfriend again. i was just scared that man was not injured. one of his car mirrors was clipped by a bullet. we're also hearing the heart- stopping audio recording from yesterday.as stockton police was calling in developments to dispatch. that hostage either bailed.or was thrown from the stolen suv.

fortunately that hostage survived. and keep it here. we're convering developments out of stockton and will have updates on air and on line.at kron4.com. an 11-year-old boy was robbed at knife-point earlier this month in santa clara. and the suspects are still on the loose. surveillance video just released from a 7-11 shows the suspect and his friends before the robbery. police say the robber is the person wearing a grey chicago bulls baseball cap. not long after this - they say he went to the washington elementary school. and threatened to stab the boy if he didn't hand over his bike. the suspect was last seen riding away on that stolen bike. that robbery is at least the second this month involving a child. on monday an eight year old girl selling candy for her

school was robbed in san francisco. police say surveillance video from a store in the city's the woman who robbed one of the girls in line behind her. after they left the store, police say the woman twisted the child's arm --- forcing her to drop a bag of money. by jumping on a muni bus coming up at 5:15. the grand opening of the new 49ers stadium in santa clara. then at 5:30. the possible defense strategy in the case of a prostitute accused of giving a google executive a fatal heroin overdose. and next. new research on fault lines. what it says about the areas at risk in the bay area. we are seeing signs everywhere this afternoon except at the coast. it will be foggy again tonight but we do have changes to the weekend forecast coming up

new at five tonight. revised earthquake hazard information from the u-s-g-s.and the prediction is more shaking for more of the u-s. check out the new map. 42 states now have a reasonable chance to experience a damaging earthquake in the next 50 years. california is one of 16 states considered to be at *high risk. the lighter colors indicate lower risk.the darker reds are higher risk areas.

three bay area cities are signed out. scientists say the earthquake threat has slightly increased in san jose and vallejo. in oakland.the threat has decreased slightly. the projections come after u-s- g-s officials stuidied fault lines in the region. the last time the usgs released a similar map was 2008. still ahead. what we know about several school. the latest on a santa rosa woman - accused of choking a boy she says had been bullying her daughter.

kron 4 news >>the city of oakland approved a deal last night to keep the oakland a's in town for the next 10 years. but the deal. was not what the team had originally hammered out. after hours of public comment and debate, oakland's city council approved a plan to extend the team's lease at the coliseum. but made a few changes in the terms. it's a complicated - since the raiders also play there.and they want a better venue. the city wanted to limited its liablity in case the raiders leave. supporters hope the revised deal will convince the a's to build it's own stadium. no word yet if the a's are ok with the changes. we have sunshine in most of the bay area. you can see low cloud coverage that lingers near the coast line. satellite images so fog near the north coastline starting to edge back into the east bay as well. but otherwise.

sunny otherwise we are still seeing thunderstorms throughout the sierra is. quite a few lightning strikes as well. even over yosemite into nevada. the temperatures are mainly in the '70s with a few eighties and mixed in. only in the '60s at the coast. tonight the fog will be returning with widespread drizzle. it will clear quickly and be clear tomorrow for your friday. the warming trend will continue into the weekend less. look at the numbers coming out. >>suspicious fires at a west contra costa county school have the community on edge. kron 4's justine waldman is live in the kron 4 newsroom with what happened. justine, do investigators suspect arson? >>yes.

someone started several small fires at a vacant school on tuesday nightand the damage is significant. we got a tour of adams middle school in east richmond heights. you can seepiles of burnt books, destroyed desks and broken glasses. it is a mess. a classroom and the main assembly area are were the fires were started. there were *five fires in all at the school there is smoke and water damage throughout the building. and before fire fighters got there. one very important thing stopped the fires from spreading. >>"if the sprinkler system had not been here the building would not have survived. it would have burned completely down." >>"the problem is it could happen again we don't have any survill systems. we need to demolish the building to make sure this does not happen again." >>crews were at the school cleaning up today. adams middle school closed in 2009. after a budget shortfall.

windows to the school are covered in plywood and there are locks on the doors. but somehow the fire-starters broke in. the estimate to clean-up the entire school is about a million dollars. in august the school board will consider a proposal to demolish the building. the contra costa fire department is now investigating. and tells us. they are following several good leads. >>a santa rosa woman accused of attacking an 11-year-old boy was back in court today. but there's been no decision yet on whether to file charges. prosecutors wants more time to investigate whether delia garcia-bracher confronted and choked a boy she said had bulled her daughter. the woman denies that she choked him.and her attorney says some witnesses can back that up. the incident happened in mid- may. there have been other delays.with the next court date set for august 28th.

a tourist is nursing bite wounds and broken bones after a shark attack. it happened off florida's okaloosa island. reporter rob brown talked to the man about what happened. >>"it was here on the beaches of okaloosa island that a tourist from tennessee found himself fending off a shark attack." >>"what was going through my head? damn. i'm going to die. i mean, really, you know?" >>terrell moore and his family

are visiting okaloosa island from pleasant view, tennessee. on monday, he was out for a swim, about 75 feet from the beach, when he felt the bite. >>"it felt like getting shocked, punched and stabbed all at the same time. electrocuted, you know? i mean, it was just like "ugh," and i felt it up my leg." >>moore says he kicked the shark, and raced for shore he saw the shark turn to go the other way. >>"if my foot's still there, i'm good. that was my thought. so, lucky, man. pure luck." >>the bite broke bones in moore's foot and required stitches to close the wound. but, just two days later, moore and his family were back on that beach. >>"this is where we go. this is where we come, every year. and we won't change that. this is where i go. so will i be back? yeah. i'll be back. i love it out here." >>moore's not upset with the shark, either. >>"he's just doing his job, man. i'm in his house. i understand that." >>however, he might change his swimming habits. >>"out that far? you can bet on it. i won't go that far again." >>moore says the family will be back, and hopes other tourists - and locals - won't be scared away from the beaches. >>"y'all get out here and have a good time. this is florida man, this is where you want to be." >>the man says he's heard that the odds of being bitten by a shark are greater than the odds of winning the lottery.

tonight at 5:30.we're montioring new developments with that passenger plane.believed to be shot out of the sky. grant is back.he has the latest.grant. >>all 295 people on board the malaysian airlines plane are dead.and a u-s official says a surface to air missle took down the boeing triple 7 as it flew over eastern ukraine today. video as parts of the plane hit the ground. the ukraine government and pro- russian separatists who are fighting in that region have both denied responsibility for the strike. debris from the aircraft has been found as fara s 10 miles from the bulk of the wreckage. the u-s has to help with the ivestigation.but at this point.russian sepratists appear to be policing the crash scene. it is important that we get to the bottom of this sooner or later because of the

repercussions that may flow beyond the tragic loss of life. we need a full and transparency international investigation. i give my hope and condolences to the family and loved ones. this is the second tragedy for malaysia airlines this year including their airline that disappeared earlier in march. we spoke with passengers leaving the airport today not. all agreed that this incident made. them feel made. it is so feel--so far and in between.

i don't think i would change my travel habits but it does concern me because i do not believe political issue should affect normal people. i pay attention to the flight route so i can map where i will go and avoid those areas. malaysian airlines does not fly out of our airport. but u.s. airways have agreed not to operate over areas where the incident occurred.

>>now to bay area news. yesterday we told you about a prostitute pleading *not guilty killed a google executive by giving him a heroin overdose on his yacht in santa cruz. kron4's alecia reid talked to a criminal defense attorney today -- about the possible strategies her attorneys could use. >>a call girl that claims she had no reason to kill a google executive although forrest timothy hayes may've hired alix tichelman and asked her to bring heroin, and inject it, there's question as to whether she knew she had given him too big a dose. >>what is too muc h for one person may be just enough for another. she does know what it looks like ot overdose on heroin. she thought he was simply taking a heroin trip so she leaves. >>if tichelman's prior case in georgia where her boyfriend slash client died from an overdose, is admissible in court, it may work against her. but then again it may work in her favor. when her other type--client or boyfriend overdosed she, immediately called the police.

from our camera down, town san francisco has cloudy skies with the low clouds already pushing back in and along the coastline and into the east bay. we will see widespread fog tonight. but it will be faster to clear. i want to talk about what is going on around the region were. we have clear skies today and is not has been muggy with less moisture. but we are seeing showers throughout this year has with heavier rain associated with those we. also see some lightning strikes. a wider picture shows the monsoon moisture from the southeast is over. but it is not quite over and will return this weekend. lake tahoe as well as yosemite and the california and nevada border have storms and lightning

with the tropical weather making its way back up to us. it will be muggy on sunday with a slight chance of showers and, mainly over the north bay. >>microsoft announced today that it's cutting thousands of jobs. alison kosik has the latest from new york. >>microsoft ceo satya nadella promised bold changes, and he wasn't kidding. the software giant announced thursday it would cut 18k jobs in the next year -- or 14% of its workforce. with the first 13k of the layoffs happening in the next 6 months. the cuts are part of nadella's vision for a leaner microsoft. in a memo to employees, he writes: "the first step to building the right organization for our ambitions is to realign our workforce the overall result of these changes will be more productive, impactful teams across microsoft." the bulk of the layoffs -- 12,500 -- are employees microsoft inherited when it bought nokia. nadella saw many overlapping positions, both in factories and on the professional side.

microsoft is attempting to shift its focus to mobile and cloud computing. rivals google and apple have been beating out microsoft in those markets. this is the largest round of layoffs in the company's history, costing them up to $1.6 billion dollars. but nadella says it's a necessary next step. and investors seem to like where he's going. microsoft stock is up over 20% since he took over as ceo in february. in ny, im alison kosik. developing tonight is that immigration crisis at the u.s. more lawmakers are now standing up against the. current the congress is now down to days to approve the funding to help these thousands of children and

roughly an hour ago there was a shooting involving a. huge share it happened in alameda county. the shooting was around 445 today near east st.. here are aerial images from the crime scene with abc seven news. you can see the crime scene tape blocked off. details are minimal as to what exactly went down. officials are not saying who shot who and are not releasing any information at this point. but you do see a vehicle that is being examined. jeff bush is arriving at the scene and we will have more information. information

as a hostage but we do not know if she died here were earlier in the day. no police officers were injured. suspects did shoot 14 different police cruisers and the police department shows that that suspects may have been trying to ambush the police officers. in all, two suspects were killed one. hostage was killed and two others were injured and are in hospital. one final note is that the bank with, was closed today, is scheduled to permanently close on friday.

the route took the plane right over eastern ukraine where it fell victim to ongoing civil war. there were bodies splayed out in the field people. say the plane kind of exploded in the air and rain down in bits and pieces. this picture shows theboeing 777 taking off from amsterdam a few hours earlier. there were no signs of trouble the. it was traveling act 33000 feet over an area controlled by russian separatists when it disappeared. you see the initial tracking and then you see a catastrophic event of something hitting the object. it is a large infrared heat signature. they believe that was the crash of the plane.

back in the bay area police are investigating a road rage shooting in corte madera this morning. they say a homeowner shot a man who followed him into his garage after an incident on the road. they say the men argued - the the homeowner fired warning shots - and then shot the 69-year-old tiburon resident. that man remains hospitalized. police say the homeowner is cooperating with the investigation. so far -- he has not been arrested. coming up, and imposter at the airport pretending to be a screener. all so suspicious fires at an abandoned school. also fedex with a crackdown on. suspicious on nothing here locally but we do have a chance of more showers coming into the bay area, coming up in a no rush, andy.
