what they confiscated from the 250 students that were ages 15 to 20 years old. mostly they got marijuana and alcohol. the students on the five buses headed to salt lake city for the ski trip. the group stopped in nevada to eat one expert called 911, after noticing some of the teen smoking marijuana on the bus that takes--smoking marijuana outside of us is that they arrived on. the police chief had a good talk with them. >> i had an opportunity to take the microphone on both of the buses and i told them i am glad i did not get high and then go down with the ski resorts and get blown away and died. we decided to confiscate the contraband and let them go on their way.

fog tracker for shows clear visibility along the shores. it looks like those pockets that we are seeing are situated along the peninsula and down into the south bay. those rings of yellow indicate less than 1 mi. visibility in down to one quarter along the coastline. by the afternoon we should see similar conditions to what we saw yesterday. so, anticipate open to get up to about 60 degrees, 58 for those in half moon bay and 60 for antioch this afternoon. into the north bay to be trending to the upper fifties and low 60s. >>erica: you're kron4 seven day around the forecast shows temperatures trending in the '60s. we have cloudy conditions today as the cold front passes through we will see a little bit more sunshine revealed. the have a lot more sunshine as the star the next work week. your temperatures are hovering around the upper

50s--upper 60s. now here is a check on traffic with george. >> george: thanks erica, and now we had an accident on third street, a muni l r v collided with a san francisco police car and that is exactly what we have discovered. jackie, what have you been able to learn? >>reporter: 4 people were sent to the hospital in this accident, two police officers, the driver of the new train and one passenger had been taken to a local hospital. conditions are unknown right now. i think there are no life- threatening injuries. as you can see the tea line itself to shut down. and you can also see then north bound third street is closed. south bound is open. the signal lights are flashing it is basically a stop sign here and we have no idea exactly how long before they will be able to get this cleared up. obviously there will be an investigation done it may take awhile. i

them went directly after mitt romney instead they kept their focus on each other and hoped that a strong showing in iowa could yield some momentum. the latest gallup poll shows that mit romney has pulled ahead of the fading new gingrich and well ahead of any other republican candidates. he is leading the pack it with 27 percent support up from 25 and new gingrich has been on a december slide. beginning with 34 percent support and now down to 23%. new this morning, president obama is taking a break from his hawaiian vacation today. he is expected to send a request to congress asking them to increase the u.s. debt ceiling again by 1.2 trillion dollars as the nation approaches the debt limits. under the terms of

this deal that was worked out last august, to have 15 days to pass a resolution of disapproval on raising the debt limit. the president could veto the measure. the limit has been raised twice. the u.s. debt ceiling would rise to more than 16 trillion dollars. >> mark: in other stories that we are falling, the police have not identified the man with a machete who barricaded himself inside a san jose apartment for nearly five hours just today. we carried this for you live in the standoff started at 2:45 a.m.. >> mark: after about five hours he came out of the apartment holding a bottle of alcohol. he then allowed officers to take into custody he was injured by the dog and taken to the

vehicles. >>reporter: yes they did. they pull the train off the top of the sfpd car. a tow truck is coming in and this is what it looked like about 15 to 20 minutes ago when i got here at 22nd and third street. you can see that the sfpd car was deboned by this. it is unclear exactly what happened. there are four entries, two police officers, the driver of the tea line and one passenger all transported to a local hospital no idea what their conditions are right now. i can tell you that south bound third street is open right now. i want to come back out your life. north bound is still closed. we have no idea how long it will take them to get this cleared off the tracks. as you can see the tow truck has arrived and it may not be much longer. >> george: i saw what looked

like a muni bus allowed to pass through the scene which suggests to me that maybe they have substituted a bus instead of the train. >>reporter: i have seen some buses headed north bound, not north bound, i am sorry i mean south bound on third street. some have taken a left turn and then head down so there may be a bust bridge in place we are waiting to see exactly what they plan on doing which is the likely scenario. >> george: it looks like they're making significant progress in clearing the police vehicle and they may let some of the lanes open northbound and southbound traffic may be able to get by. so it is easy to divert around this, you can go one block the right if your north bound and you will be able to get past the closed without any problems. thankfully, traffic is pretty light. you can use

rainfall over crescent city. future forecast shows by endicott, we do see some sprinkles just north of santa rosa and the system continues to shift southward through out the early afternoon hours. by 2:00 p.m. it looks like the small band could cross the golden gate bridge. the could be picking up some sprinkles for downtown san francisco along the coastline in half moon bay. closer to the 3:00 hour we will see dry conditions around the bay area. fog tracker for shows the current visibility. it looks like we are clear in the north bay. the areas with the most dense fog is the areas in the south bay. this indicates a visibility around a half now. it looks like we will see clear conditions within the next couple of hours. so, into the afternoon we will have cloud covered blanket in the bay area but we will see some rays of sunshine.

attacked during the half yvette. i talk with the spokesperson from the san jose police department he said this point they cannot confirm if that is the reason why she was attacked but they do admit that their investigation is just getting underway. so far, they have not made any arrests. >> mark: in other news around the bay, an alameda county and hazardous materials unit evacuated about 10 employees from a wholesale food processing plant in union city. authorities say they found a refrigerator legal and then arrive last night. the leak was contained to the facility and no one was injured. and the fremont mayor bob died at the age of 77. his family was there. he was a strong support-- supporter of moving the oakland a's to his city. in 1976 appointed as the city's chief of police. he was elected to the city council

>> george: welcome back to the kron4 morning news as we continue to track this hot spot. they have managed to clear both the light rail vehicle and the police to parma vehicle that were involved with this collision that cent for people to the hospital. muni has been substituting shuttle coaches in the northbound direction. it looks as though they may be ready to christine fairly quickly. southbound lanes are open and northbound lanes are block. there is a new detour one block to the right to get around problems. i will have more details and then of the hot spot on the kron4 morning news returns, we will be right back.

just said is recalling more than 4000 of its 2012 chevrolet sonic cars to check for missing big pads. so far there are no injuries related to this issue anyone affected will receive a letter from dealers starting next month. george. >> george: thank you justine and we continue to track a hot spot in san francisco actually we have to. and this is third street and 22nd this is northbound lanes. this muni shuttle bus and headed north it will take the place of the third straight line that has been stopped since it struck the san francisco police department vehicle at an accident that occurred earlier this morning. the train is moving through now as you can see in the northbound direction. they may stop the bus service shortly. we are not sure if the vehicle had been open to

traffic. the police vehicle which was here has been cleared from the street. again, 4 people were injured two police officers, the driver of the nlrb, and one passenger in the nlrb, so the lanes are open. traffic is very light in there is an easy detour around the problem. hear, northbound interstate 280. it happened at moderate boulevard that the accident occurred. the two right lanes are blocked. 280 lead up from the peninsula and towards downtown san francisco. the other traffic has been fairly quiet, the bridges look good an excuse me, take a look for your ride to the bay bridge. we have west bound traffic in this is an easy commute headed into the toll plaza.

>> george: welcome back to the kron4 morning news we have been tracking--tracking a couple of hot spots in san francisco. first list take a look at the third street and 22nd intersection. here a a muni train struck a san francisco police department vehicle. the driver of the many light rail vehicle and one of his passengers were injured along with two

police officers that were inside of the squad car. thankfully now, all lanes are reopened and there is no longer any impact to traffic that had been fairly light in both directions past the scene. will we understand is that the injuries according to kron4 jackie cecil were not life-threatening injuries. again, four persons were transported to hospital but it is all clear now. we were also tracking a hot spot on to a zero and the northbound direction here at moderate boulevard. the lanes have been reopened and you can see traffic is quickly return to normal. although was backed up all the way to the city, now is to slow passed this scene. and looking at other traffic has been a pretty good ride for the bay area bridges. we started the morning with a fog advisory that was lifted before 5:00. the san mateo bridge fog advisory was lifted in the 5:00 hour with no

milpitas this morning. we will get to that in a moment, here it is now. this is some video of a truck that was hauling away one of the vehicles involved in a fatal accident. this occurred off the freeway, in fact off of the connecting ramp from to 37--from 237 and 880. this was in the non commuting direction. this never blocked any planes are never really bothered the traffic. there you can see it was actually off the roadway that the accident occurred. again, this was a fatal crash that occurred in the early hours this morning. here is a quick check on your traffic maps as we look at the ride on interstate 80. west bound is still a smooth commute with no delays with your trip heading down from pinole to berkeley. your ride in the south bay looks good. and your ride through marin

county is still at 22 minute drive time from a bottle to the golden gate bridge. >>justine: muni and san francisco police are still investigating the cause of an early morning crash 4 people were injured including two police officers. this happening muni light rail vehicle collided with a police car. you can see the police car is right at the tip. this happened at the intersection of third and 22nd street just before 6:00 p.m.--just before 6:00 a.m.. the muni vehicle broadside the police car but it was not going at high speed. all four people were transported to a local hospital and all injuries are considered minor and not life-threatening. stocks are opening mixed today on the final trading day of the year. many investors are away on vacation the dow is down only 26 points.

very good it has been light all week long with no delays. your ride to the san mateo bridge is equally good in both directions. there has been some fog from time to time but not enough for the chp to the issue and fog advisory. now it is usually not the chp that issues advisory here. there has not been one this morning all you can see that it is fairly foggy. take in the traffic maps as we take a look at the censors around the bay area. the east bay rides have been great this week. south they were looking at like traffic in all directions. in the north bay it has been delay free all morning and all week. let us take a close look at the ride heading south to central san raphael. speeds are popping up at 60.

looking back, we have 72 in central san raphael. that is the reason why the drive time down to the toll out of the golden gate bridge is just 23 minutes for the total. >>justine: now it was a honda civic and traffic is blocked at third street north bound @ king. we are following the developing story and stay with us for more as we get more information into the kron4 newsroom. and more than 1000 people have been arrested in a crackdown on driving under the influence. the area law- enforcement agencies are gearing up for more arrest because of his new year's weekend. the crackdown start on december 16th and almost half of those arrested were made in alameda county. 485 of them, 279 arrests were made in santa clara county. their 132 arrests in sonoma

students were involved in a major drug bust we are hearing that they will not be arrested. take a look at all the video of all the drugs and alcohol that the police confiscated from the students from more than two dozen bay area schools. the students ranged in age from 15 to 20 years old. the students for on their way to salt lake city you talk for a ski trip. it was organized by summer winter action trips. the group stopped to eat when a clerk call 91 after noticing teams were smoking pot outside of the buses that they had been riding on. the police chief talk about why they had decided not to arrest the students. >> i got an opportunity then to take a microphone on each bus and i told them, i said i hoped you'd think we, you are probably mad at me now but may be will thank me later that you are not skiing down a ski slope at one of the ski resorts stoned out of your mind and crashed and burned and get

looked like deja vu all over again. here is another muni light rail vehicle accident came upon this crash, actually jackie did. is this the third tree line again? >>reporter: in is the third street line again. this is starting to become a habit for the second time this morning in el are the vehicle has collided with a car. it was a police vehicle the first time now is a normal car. this happened at the corner of third and king street, basically right in front of at&t park. right now, we're being told that there were no serious injuries that the driver of the car she appears to be fine. i did see the train was full when it collided with the car all the passengers get off. it does not appear that there any injuries to the passengers but the problem, this is a major thoroughfare for people getting off to a zero and coming into town. that is really backing up the

from 280. this is king north bound this is the train involved in the incident. as you can see there are backing it up so or perhaps they are considering opening up part of the intersection. when jackie first reported on this in today he said it did not appear, this is not confirmed by any agencies he says it did not appear that there were any injuries. and yes, they are allowing traffic from king street to make a left-hand turn on to third street north bound. it is tying up traffic in the middle of the intersection. again, this is the second muni light rail accident on third street this morning. here is a look at other traffic around the bay area. we will start the bridge check at the bay bridge toll plaza. thankfully we have very light conditions with no problems or no delays. and here is a mature ride to the cemetery ridge. even with some of the fog that we have had this morning there are no problems. and the golden gate bridge ride has been so light that has been incident free most of the

morning. i will not show any of the traffic maps right now i will tell you that conditions are like all around the bay area. you have a great drive time and there are no delays. >>erica: good morning george, we see dense fog around the bay area as we head into the afternoon we have the potential for some showers. and live with the storm tracker for shows the system is shifting southward. by 10:00 a.m., we could actually see some scattered sprinkles just north of santa rosa. as we advance the clock to the afternoon hours, it looks like we would have been sitting over napa stretching through vallejo. by 2:00 p.m. we see this light band indicating rainfall moving closer and closer to downtown san francisco and this could affect half moon bay as well. it looks like we will be clearing and

trying things out by 3:00. and in terms of your temperatures by 11:00, this light blue indicates widespread fifties around the bay area and by 2:00 p.m., we will continue to be in the upper 50s for portions of the north bay and along the coastline. could see some sixties for the inland and south bay areas. breaking down the numbers neighborhood by neighborhood we have upper fifties and low sixties with no surprise there. we will continue to see low 60s now only in the south bay bucs for places like santa rosa and napa as well. your seven day around the forecast shows temperatures in the '60s, no doubt about that. we have mostly cloudy conditions for the rest of today as the cool front passes through, we will reveal more sunshine closer to the weekend and a warming trend in store by the start of next week. >>justine: this time at a

>> george: for the second time this morning a new real vehicle collided with a car and blocked an intersection. thankfully this intersection at third in team has just been cleared. there is the vehicle that struck the small pond is a band. it blocked the middle of the intersection. of the traffic was forced to turn right on fourth or continue straight. thankfully the man should clear the intersection and as the vehicle that was struck. now the traffic heading eastbound can now making a left-hand turn at the ballpark because that is where most of the traffic goes. i will have another complete traffic check coming your way. >>justine: an off-duty chicago police officer was shot and killed last night while moonlighting at another job. authorities said that officer clifton was was working as a security guard and a 24 hour convenience store and two

men walked in and rob the place and shot him. the officer was taken to hospital where he later died. lewis was in a year veteran of the chicago police department. and work on the national september 11th memorial museum has been on hold because of a budget dispute. new york city mayor michael bloomberg said the this deadly delay the opening. the museum was scheduled to open on the 11th anniversary of the terror attacks. they blame it on this agreement with the port authority of new york and new jersey which are responsible for a portion of the project's funding. the mayor did not say when the work on the museum would start up again. >>justine: workers in allentown pennsylvania could begin digging upgrade-- digging up graves at a historic cemetery because of a huge sinkhole that measures 50 ft. long and 30 ft. wide. hundreds of the grave date back to the 1800's and many belong to civil war veterans. also

celebrating the sharks go, so what is the response? >> that is what the trial is for, the facts will come out everyone has their own version of the defense he has his, and she has her own assertion as a victim. did the police arrest the unruly fan, out of the time they do a lot of the times they don't. it this van was arrested maybe they're correct this is a trumped up charge, but there is a lot of violence between fans of opposing teams at the sporting event and that is something the teams have to be mindful of. the raiders at one. announced a may statement before the game saying everyone enjoy yourself even if you're on opposing teams behavior self and that is what has happened. >>justine: before you go, it is new year's eve we can allow up will be drinking and hopefully not getting behind the wheel. but you have a way to get people a tip? what happens if you get pulled over and you have had too much to drink.

>> people must understand on the new year's eve there may be sobriety checks out there the chp will be out there in full force if you want a dui, this is the weekend to get it. everyone, do not drink and drive but if you do the question that the officers always ask did you have anything to drink? when you answer yes, i have had one beer or two years i guarantee you the officer will take you out of the car and give you a field sobriety test and he will maybe give you a breathalyzer and you will be hauled into the police station and will have to pay a substantial fine. your license will be suspended and you will have to go to d y school to get your license back. it is a very expensive process. if you have a second the white to be at 18 month license suspension. don't drink and drive is expensive is a big racket the cities and states make a lot of big money the lawyers make money do not drink and drive. believe me it is hard to beat these cases and it is expensive. >>justine: thank you for
