a double homicide suspect has been booked into the santa rita jail after being extradited from kansas. 31-year-old howard reed was stopped by kansas highway patrol and was booked into a detention center. the alameda county sheriff's office said that reed killed and shot two

women that he lived with in san lorenzo on may 1st. he was charged by the d.a.'s office with two counts of murder. caltrans is warning drivers to avoid the 680 southbound lanes near dublin this weekend. crews are working on a paving project until monday. it will continue next weekend as well, just two lanes are open southbound from alcosta boulevard and the 580 interchange. traffic is expected to be backed up from contra costa to alameda. in san jose, dozens of volunteers helped clear the rivers and the creeks around san jose while part of the national river cleanup day. didn't know there was such a thing. organizers say hundreds of tons of trash needed to be collected around san jose's creeks all year round. >> happening tomorrow, thousands of costumed runners will take over the streets of san francisco for the annual bay to breakers race. here is some of our favorite outfits from last year's race. of course, these are the ones that we can actually show you. the seven-mile race starts tomorrow

morning at 8:00 near main and howard streets and ends at ocean beach. multiple entrances to golden gate park will be closed. street closures start tonight. muni will also be rerouted. and still to come here at 5:00, the contra costa county fair had to be shut down due to violence last year. the new rules in place that are trying to produce new outcomes. plus, he was a pioneer of bay area television, where you can get an up-close look at brother buzz's historic puppets.

the contra costa county fair continues this weekend. lots of people expected to be out, including teens with their chaperones. the policy was put into place last year for teens 18 and under to be accompanied by an adult that's at least 25 years old after fights broke out. in one day fair organizers are implementing the rule again to keep the fair safe and fun for everyone. the chaperone policy is getting mixed reviews from the teens. >> feel like the fair is a place where kids go to have fun away from their parents. the chaperone policy takes away from that. >> it's a good way of protecting everyone in the park, sort of. i feel like we've had a lot of dangerous incidents at the park. now that we have this new rule, it's going to keep it safer and more fun for everyone else. >> you have one more day to enjoy the contra costa county fair. it wraps up tomorrow.

well, speaking of festive things, a big anniversary this weekend as the roller coaster turned 100. opened in 1924. cost them $50,000 to build. it only took 47 days to build that. boardwalk visitors say that the century old coaster gives them a generational connection that they cherish. >> it's nostalgic. reminds me of when i was a kid and my grandparents took me on the giant dipper. >> a few years ago my great grandma came here with me, and she really wanted to go on here. it was such a special moment. >> i rode this ride with my glpt, my parents. i've ridden it with my son. and people pass that tradition from family member to family member. >> it's great, isn't it? i've got pictures of my dad there as a kid in the 1940s. more than 24 movies have been film at the boardwalk a lot of them featuring the -- why wouldn't they feature the big dipper if they're going to shoot a film

there? including 2018's us. you can toast the ride with a custom ale made by discretioned brewer in socal, cans went on sale today at the boardwalk. and an update to the breaking news we brought you at the top of the show, eastbound traffic is moving again on interstate 80 after a grass fire on yerba buena island. three lanes have re-opened and the fire has been put out. the san francisco fire department says it was an in a hard to reach area. it brought in a fire boat but took a while to put it out due to the strong winds. as we have every day this week for quite a while, had those gusty winds. >> this time of year, open water, no friction, it gets erratic out there. we have video of them with the fire, but with the hose e, and the hose was getting pushed all over the place. and then that wind took that smoke and blew some of it into the east bay. i was looking at the air quality

sensors. montclair, air quality down to moderate. down into walnut creek measurable declines. nothing terrible, but some of the smoke out that far, that's how far the wind was taking it. >> strong sea breeze. >> this is what we looked like today on the high resolution satellite. that was pattern on here. look at the north bay. there's a lot more gray showing up that's getting funneled into the north bay today. you see this coastal eddie out here. everything's getting pulled up from the south and pulled right into that interior valley through the petaluma gap. you didn't get out of the 60s today because of that. notably cooler there today. as a result tomorrow that's where the biggest difference is going to be felt on daytime highs. look where you were so far for daytime highs. it was only mid to upper 60s in the north bay and it was near 80 in san jose today. we're going change that tomorrow, because as we leave

behind the live satellite, put spite the futurecast, watch what happens, way less marine layer tomorrow. now, this has an impact as well for bay to breaker, usually run under may gray skies. i think it's likely tomorrow you're going get a lot more clearing than you will or have had in previous years. certainly more than the last several days. tomorrow the marine layer gives us a break. if we look at the forecast, we have to put a cloud or two in there. but it's not terribly windy through the morning hour, and it's going to be a bit clearer. so you know, this could be somewhat more costume-friendly weather for bay to breakers tomorrow. tell all your friends. it's not too late. all right, let's look at daytime highs on here. there's sunday. so notice the warm-up in the low to mid-60s today, near 80 tomorrow. big difference as this transition take place. we start the warm-up here, but it's going to peak on tuesday. so let's watch the transition. keep your eye on the day, but you're

also going to see the color codes change on here. that's where we'll be. you didn't change a lot for the interior of the bay, but you did out here. daytime highs will be in the mid-80s for inland east bay valley business the time we get to tuesday. you'll see me the seven-day forecast we're going to cool back down again after that. we were talking about how the wind was taking some of that smoke and blowing it all the way over here. you kind of see hazy sky, not much of it, but the marine layer showing clear through onshore flow, clouds coming in from the bay, getting pushed over the east bay hills, down 24, and not really making it all that far inland right now. that's what we look like on high resolution satellite. gorgeous view. look at all this over here. thunderstorms today in the sierra at the same time. so it has been an active day over there, but all that stuff's going the other way, not coming here. let's get into the seven-day forecast, and i'll show you what to expect. remember, a subtle warming trend for some of us, a drastic warming trend in the north bay valleys tomorrow. san francisco and oakland, you don't really change a whole lot this time of

year. there's not much difference on there. when we look at north bay valleys, you're in the mid to upper 60s tomorrow, tomorrow near 80. tuesday everybody tops out low 80s, and then we're going to cool right back down again by the end of next week as the numbers go back dmoun the mid to low 70s by the time we get to friday and saturday. inland, east bay, mid-80s on tuesday and then you're back down to 70 by the weekend. back to you. >> okay, thank you, darren. san francisco celebrating the life and work of a prolific but little known artist with a special exhibit at the public library. his name is ralph chesse. >> max darrow spoke with his son about what this means to their family and gives us a look at some of his finest work, which you may have seen on kpix decades ago. >> reporter: on the second floor of san francisco's iconic coyt tower, there's a mural by ralph chesse, an artist with a quiet but longlasting legacy. one of the renaissance men involving

painting, printing, sculpture, murals, and puppets. >> this is a ralph chesse production. >> reporter: in the 1950s, chesse was the main creator of the children's tv show called brother buzz, which aired on kpix. >> he built all the puppets. he acted. he wrote all the scripts. >> reporter: that's ralph's son bruce. he's here in the city as the san francisco public library unveils a three-month exhibit to honor his father, showcase some of his best work, and highlight his unique and underrecognized place in san francisco's history. how does it feel to have this exhibit in san francisco really to honor your father? >> well, it's been 75 years in coming. i'm very happy that it's finally here. >> reporter: some of the puppets that helped make brother buzz the hit show that it was are on display at the exhibit and one of them even made a return to the kpix studios. >> grand pappy wood mouth. >> tell us about this. >> from the show. he was a central ongoing character in the show. role was very

important for brother buzz to converse with. >> i think if we spent more time learning to understand one another instead of laughing at each other and making fun, the world would be a better place to live in. >> reporter: brother buzz was a busy bee who taught children about kindness, good manner, and so much more. >> it was the first program that dealt with the environment -- >> reporter: mm-hmm. >> -- and with kindness to animals. >> we're looking for an aquatic mammal, have you seen one around? >> my father knew nothing about animals. >> reporter: your father was an artist. >> yes. and he had to research all of it. >> reporter: chesse truly had a deep connection to san francisco. his wide range of work was appreciated by many for decades. bruce is proud of his father's legacy and touched by the san francisco public library's gesture. >> i'm just very delighted. i've had -- my former partner has already seen the exhibit, and she says it's just really

known about it. paging tony hawk. but luis matos is the main attraction at oracle park right now. hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat. the beginning of a six-rbi day. he has now driven in 14 runs over the last five games. this was one of his nine doubles hit by the giants. their most in a game and a first since 1912. he's got good dense today. homered the other night, took away extra bases here. giants beat the rockies 14-4 for their third straight win. they'll go for the sweep on sunday. in softball, stanford looking to advance out of their regional after taking down saint mary's on saturday. third inning, ava barrels one to right field. if it's fair, it's gone, it's fair. solo shot put the cardinal up two. they win 2-1. they have a chance to advance to the superregionals tomorrow. the running of the preakness stakes in baltimore, that's ray lewis, bit of a different introduction than the
